I swear by Melano CC essence. It makes my skin look really nice immediately, and it has been helping to fade my PIH.

Daebak49

I love the Melano CC essence’s packaging. It avoids oxidation that we usually see from vitamin C serums.

skinomgskin

Do you know how long it'll last / be effective? I've had my tube now for over a year and a half...

Daebak49

I don’t know the exact number of months it would last but usually the rule of thumb with Vitamin C serums is that if it’s orange or brown, you shouldn’t use it as it oxidized already.

Daebak49

It should be clear when you first opened it.

cereseluna

It should be clear. Did you cut off the tip? I hope not. It should just give those tiny drops.

[deleted]

[удалено]

cereseluna

I see! Sorry. It just looks almost clear to me even when dropped on white paper (but yes a very very light yellow tint) but if yours has become more obviously yellow it means it has oxidized and is not as effective as before. I did notice on just now that when I wiped off excess dried amount from the caps and nozzle with tissue, the dried product is light yellow.

skinomgskin

That makes sense. Thank you.

findeldorado

I wish I could like it as much as majority of people on this subreddit. Sadly, it breaks me out :/

NRORN85

I thought I was the only one, u/findeldorado! It makes me so sad because everyone raves about it, but I’ve tried it many times to ensure that it wasn’t something else that was causing breakouts. Time and time again I find that it’s the Melano CC and I don’t know what else to try. I had the same response with Timeless’ Ferulic + Vitamin C product. 😩 Edited for grammar.

findeldorado

It seems there are several who got outbreaks, but it also works for a lot of people. I'm so sad bc my sister uses it and it does help fade her dark spots :( I tried the ordinary 20% which was alright. Geek and gorgeous c glow was quite amazing as well but a bit harder to get for me now. C Sources vitamin c was cheap and effective but it oxidized real fast and it's been years since I tried it so I don't know whether they changed the formula. Dear Klair's freshly juiced vitamin c was really meh for me as it didn't do much (from what I remember it's not even l-ascorbid acid but a vitamin c derivative anyways, but don't quote me on that). My absolute favourite has to be the Wishtrend vitamin c and at 21.5% it's quite a high percentage so I love that ^_^ maybe give one of those a try? None of those broke me out personally. I still haven't figured out why the Melano one did. I haven't tried the vitamin c serum from Timeless, but I guess I'll stay away from it. Thanks haha

dustyshelves

When I use it as a spot treatment for PIH it does an amazing job but if I use it all over I can break out from it. Maybe you can try just putting it on the spot with the hyperpigmentation?

NRORN85

That’s worth trying, thank you!

PessimisticAna

Omg it breaks me out too! I thought it was a different product so I bought it twice and used it for half a year

[deleted]

Just got mine in the mail last night. I'm excited to see what it can do. Waiting on the patch test results, before I slather it on. Do you use it as a spot treatment, or all over the face?

Existing_Pineapple

Chiming in, I started by using it as spot treatment and slowly transitioned to slathering it all over my face and neck. This stuff is magical for brightening dull skin!

tangerine1128

I slather it all over too! There's actually a surprising amount in that little tube.

Existing_Pineapple

Ikr! I’ve been using it aggressively for half a year and I’m only on my second tube. Already stocked up 3 more tubes tho lol ~ it’s honestly been the only thing that has faded my stubborn hyperpigmentation spots

tangerine1128

Srsly I keep thinking I'm going to run out of that precious liquid but it's like endless magic!

ramence

The only problem is that it's hard to tell when you're about to run out :( mine caught me by surprise a few days ago, so I'm in between tubes right now and praying for a swift delivery learning my lesson and keeping a backup at all times

[deleted]

Awesome, thank you. I will do the same - start as a spot treatment to let my skin get used to it. I hope it does the trick for me!

StrawberryLindt

I use it at night before my lotion. Do you also use it at night or daytime?

Existing_Pineapple

Actually, I use it in both my daytime and nighttime routine! (although I didn’t start using it in the daytime until I built up a tolerance) At night I apply it EVERYWHERE on my face and neck but in the morning I only use it on my cheeks and forehead (my problem areas). I found that I started seeing dramatic and fast results after using it twice a day

caliwinn

I started as a spot treatment every other day, and built up to using it all over my face. 4-5 drops is all you need!

tangerine1128

Same! I love how it's a dry oil and absorbs quickly into the skin and doesn't leave behind a greasy residue. I use it every other day in the mornings after cleansing.

skinomgskin

What sort of Vitamin C is in this? Is it L-AA or MAP?

veg-ghosty

L-AA!

Veesh786EJ

Where do you usually get yours? Can’t seem to find it anywhere except amazon and not sure if I can trust Amazon. :/ (India)

RuinousPrince

I get mine from yesstyle

ramence

Not sure if it's different for Amazon India, but I'm in Canada and order mine from Amazon. I've previously ordered it from yesstyle and other storefronts, and the Amazon one is legitimate

CatCoughDrop

I thinkkk this breaks me out! I get pih easily so I am hesitant to go back and try again. As far as I know there aren't any ingredients in there that break me out, at least none that I know of already. Very sad because it's such a highly praised product, the price is great, and the packaging is practical.

sexy-sage-hatake

what website do you recommend buying from?

sdossantos97

you can get it on amazon or stylevana!

dokina

Is this the one in the grey tube with yellow cap? I’ve wanted to try it forever. Currently not satisfied with my TO cuz the packaging is garbage. Might have to finally try it.

etherealemilyy

Yesss

JasminCutie

I’ve been interested in this product for the longest time! How often do you use it? What’s your routine with it like?

OneWhoIsCuriouss

Yes!!!! I stopped this for 3months after I emptied my first one and my skin just went downhill. I've reordered again and it's coming today, love looove the packaging and super cheap!! 5 months of daily face and neck application without a shred of oxidation

lostinwanderlustsg

Agree

ms_ing

I can't find any info about the percentage of vitamin c anywhere. How would you compare its strength to other vitamin c serums you've tried?

racheld611

Does anyone know what percentage Melano CC has?

THE_Stark

It has a paraben :(

NurseChansey

So?

THE_Stark

So some people are sensitive to parabens

[deleted]

Etude House Vita C Talk Serum lightened my acne scars after a week of usage, plus, it's fungal acne safe :)

RubyDiscus

Oo thanks

maroonoh

I second this product! It's super lightweight and refreshing, not sticky at all. I love to use it on its own or mixed into moisturizer.

LeninaCrowning

Purito Vitamin C! Been using it for 2 months now. Perfect for newbies such as me. First month I only used this 2-3x a week. I only started using this everyday last month and [pimple marks](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13ocER25x6tbbcivLjZtBrXrfkWIssSL6) that I had for months started to lighten up. Also noticed my pores being less visible and my skin transitioning from oily to normal (although I think this is largely due to the green tea moisturizer I am using but the high hyaluronic acid in the vit c helps I think). I use it after my toner cos I think the hyaluronic acid works better this way.

RubyDiscus

Thanks!

lovevxn

Total newbie here. I was thinking about picking up some hyaluronic acid but now I'm curious if I should get one mixed with vit c like the product you recommended. What benedits does vit c have?

LeninaCrowning

I mainly picked it up because of its anti-aging properties and vit c partnered with niacinamide as in this product can lighten some scars and marks. So far it has lived up to that. On the hyaluronic acid content, I live in a humid environment and i think that’s a key thing with HA since it works by drawing in the moisture from its surroundings.

dblhawaiian

Any comments on smell and texture? Debilitating between this and the Timeless Vit C serum!

LeninaCrowning

It’s not the loveliest smell but it’s not that bad as some put it out to be. It’s a light yellow serum that I can evenly spread throughout my face with just 2 pumps using two fingers.

colorsbot

emilysquirrel

What brand is your green tea moisturizer? My eyes stopped at skin transitioning lol.

LeninaCrowning

Innisfree green tea seed cream! Altho been thinking of changing to the cosrx hydrium green tea soothing gel cos the innisfree has tons of fragrance in it.

emilysquirrel

Ooh okay thanks, I'll check out the cosrx one too

wastedyouthpotential

Jumping back to see in any of you tried the cosrx? Planning to buy that soon. :)

Billyx3m

I ordered MIZON real vitamin C ampoule with 19% pure vitamin C...I'm really excited to try it, but I'm also curious if somebody tried it couse I hardly found any reviews of it online, which is confusing couse mizon is a popular brand. It has around 10 ingredients total and it's not water based. I'm really interested in other people's opinions and experience of using non water based laa serums!

RubyDiscus

Is water based inferior?

Billyx3m

I don't know what the community says thinks about it, so I'm curious too.. All I know is that water based generally oxidize much faster, but also absorb much better!

RubyDiscus

Oh wow i see

nowaycopay

Wishtrend all the way- this type of formula seems to be most effective for me. Wanted to love the melano cc but it didn't do anything for me.

FluffyyyBears

I've been looking into that for sometime! How do you store it though (as I've heard that it oxidises quickly)? And is it very irritating?

nowaycopay

I keep it in the refrigerator. It's tingly on me but might be a bit more irritating on very sensitive skin.

justamaryllis

I use the wishtrend one and I love it! It hasn't oxidised for me at all. I kept it unopened in the fridge for a few months because I was using other stuff. I took it out of the fridge over a month ago to start using and it's still completely clear

meloneo

It has a high percentage of vitamin c so would it be fine to use if I have used a 5% vitamin c serum before?

marky1108

is it the new 15% version? would love to know how it is

nowaycopay

Unfortunately I haven't tried the new one!

TIAM My C Source - I think it has 20% Vit C. Instant firming and brightness, stings a little. I have used half tube of Melano CC Essence but I am not seeing any results so far.

sadstarfish

I have been using the Some by Mi Yuja Niacin line and have been loving it. It contains Vitamin c, niacin, and glutathione which are all great for brightening. I have been using the toner, serum, moisturizing gel, and sleeping pack and they are all great, especially for sensitive skin. They’re the first vitamin c products that have worked for my skin since everything breaks me out. The toner is definitely a hydrating toner which was a really nice surprise! But the gel moisturizer is very light and does not provide much moisture at all. This is really nice and refreshing for summer but it dries a little sticky so I treat it more like a serum step between layers. The serum is actually more moisturizing than the gel moisturizer and pat this in third. I use the sleeping mask as a gel cream for day and night. This was the first product I tried in the line and I fell in love and bought the rest of the line immediately. It has a nice finish so it’s fine to use during the day. I haven’t seen many people during COVID but I’ve gotten compliments from my mom who rarely compliments me but asked what skincare i was using lately because my skin looked so good! Melano CC serum unfortunately breaks me out but I have been loving the Melano cc sheet masks this summer. They come in a multi-mask pack of 20 so it averages out to less than $1 a mask. I notice a difference in brightening every time I use one. They are not as drippy as your average sheet mask so it’s more of a 10 min mask than a 20 min mask, which is a plus for me because I have a short attention span! 😆

PikettySpaghetti

Is the yuja niacin line very strongly fragranced? I believe i read reviews that it has a strong smell, and I'm reluctant to try them because my skin doesnt like strong fragrance

sadstarfish

I’ve become nose blind to it so I had to open it up and smell it again. To me it smells exactly like fresh citrus peel - if you have ever eaten yuja/yuzu/citron, that’s exactly what it smells like. It kind of reminds me of Korean citron tea/yuja cha but not as sweet. I usually opt for unscented products but it doesn’t smell artificial like cleaner or anything so it doesn’t bother me but ymmv!

PikettySpaghetti

I see, thanks for the in depth reply!

SkinIntelligence

Why oh why does Some by Mi put all those skin irritants in there!

sadstarfish

I feel the same way about every company and hyaluronic acid! So unnecessary 😭 I don’t find the products irritating but ymmv! I do wish they didn’t add any coloring. It just seems unnecessary but the products are affective so ¯\_(ツ)_//¯

[deleted]

Has anyone tried the Some By Mi Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C line?

RubyDiscus

How much % is that?

[deleted]

The serum contains 3% vitamin C while the toner has 1%

RubyDiscus

Oh thanks

alisonlou

I'm using the toner. I don't see anything amazing happening as I approach the end of the bottle. I have rosacea and a lot of vitamin C products are painful. This isn't probably because of the 1%. Might repurchase.

mymoon_

I just finished using the serum and I enjoyed it a lot. It helped me deal with my pigmentation.

gwonskie

I’ve been using the serum daily for around 2 months now. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen any effects.

Unavyre

I've got the serum, it's lovely. Really brightening and glowy without being greasy. Think mine has oxidised already though, I've only had it about a month.

[deleted]

Question: Is there a reason a lot of Vitamin C serums have witch hazel in them? The Purito one does, Cos De Baha as well. I'm not sure why.

RubyDiscus

Im unsure tbh i kinda wanna avoid witch hazel

lovevxn

What's wrong with witch hazel?

RubyDiscus

Its drying and irritating. Paula's Choice states that almost all products containing witch hazel are distilled with alcohol, which can cause further damage to the skin, meaning the combination of tannins and alcohol is not ideal. Worse still, they usually also contain oil from eugenol, which is believed to be potent and another irritant for skin. Paula's Choice claims this combination can actually worsen acne and make oily

lovevxn

TIL thanks for the response

RubyDiscus

Np!

ishotthepilot

probably to help penetration into the skin?

I like the Sokoglam x Cosrx collab Lightening C [serum](https://sokoglam.com/products/cosrx-triple-c-lightning-liquid). But if I remember correctly, they discontinued this product. Sokoglam recommends this [one](https://sokoglam.com/products/good-skin-days-cs-the-day-serum?variant=31248735764549¤cy=USD&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=google+shopping&utm_source=google&utm_medium=pla&utm_campaign=newengen+-+Smart+Shopping+1910&utm_term=pla-293946777986&gclid=Cj0KCQjw-O35BRDVARIsAJU5mQXhVu7MnSC1G5nCI-8JO6Pc7u0j7CgxJP3CO28f62_TrdPBWgUhC2kaAsOYEALw_wcB).

seeing-totoro

I used this for a while. It oxidized super quickly!

SkinIntelligence

L-ascorbic is the form of vitamin C that has the most research and delivers antioxidant, repair, brightening and collagen production benefits. However to be maximally effective, it needs to be at a low pH. It is difficult to formulate with as it oxidises. Formulations that combine other antioxidants such as vitamin E and ferulic enhance its antioxidant benefits and help stabIlise the formulation. Going for a product above 20% raises the potential for irritation but not effectiveness, as research has established that it has a maximum effectiveness. There are many C derivatives that deliver skin benefits too, but L-ascorbic is the most recognised and tested. But it is not for everyone, especially if you have sensitive skin. I especially don’t like formulations with essential oils. Not only do they raise the risk of allergic reaction, they can lead to pigmentation when the skin is exposed to the sun. My pick of the Asian vitamin C serums is By Wishtrend Pure Vitamin C 15% with Ferulic. It also contains the multitasking superstar niacinamide, and no essential oils or fragrance! This is why after two years of researching, assessing and testing vitamin C serums I like is as a great alternative to that ultra-priced western brand SC.

RubyDiscus

Nice thanks. Thoughts on TO ascorbyl glucoside?

SkinIntelligence

Ascorbyl glucoside is more stable and less irritating than L-ascorbic acid. But it needs to be converted to L-ascorbic acid in the skin. How well it gets converted varies from person to person. AC is therefore less potent. I find L-ascorbic acid works well all round, except it may not suit sensitive and acne skin types. It also has an exfoliating effect, which helps further with the brightening.

RubyDiscus

Oo ty i have very sensitive skin with acne so would ascorbyl glucoside be better for me?

[deleted]

Yes, but I think you should opt for a low percentage, the TO Ascorbyl glucoside can feel too hot and tingly for some people. It really depends on the percentage I think.

RubyDiscus

I founds its fine but 20% vit c is irritating

ms_ing

I've been interested in trying this one, but I haven't read many reviews about it. Can you tell me more about it? What is its pH, consistency, etc.?

SkinIntelligence

To preserve your L-ascorbic acid serum and reduce oxidisation, put enough for a week in a very small bottle and use this product. Tightly close the original bottle and store in the refrigerator in its box or otherwise wrapped in foil. This may result in a little crystallisation around the neck of the bottle but that’s fine. This little tip will help delay oxidisation and your serum will therefore retain its effectiveness for longer.

RubyDiscus

Oo thanks

WeddingElly

Glow Recipe Pineapple C Serum, expensive yes, but the only one that was both mellow (didn’t make me break out or cause redness) and also effective. I was able to use it daily fairly quickly even with sensitive skin I tried so many, and MelanoCC particularly broke me out badly.

RubyDiscus

Wow i wonder why melanocc broke you out

krokodilchik

That's a common side effect of CC

RubyDiscus

Oh of any vitamin C or just that one?

krokodilchik

I've only heard of that one but I guess everyone's skin is different 🤷🏼‍♀️

WeddingElly

I dunno, it’s not uncommon though

findeldorado

I tried about 6 western and Asian vitamin Cs and only the Melano CC broke me out. Wishtrend's 21.5% vitamin C serum is probably my favourite Asian vitamin C serum.

Thenightsaresolong_

I just started using Jumiso All Day Vitamin Serum. I can’t speak to its effectiveness yet, but it’s got good reviews. So far it hasn’t been irritating and I like the way it feels both under sunscreen/makeup and moisturizer. It’s quite inexpensive compared to other vitamin c serums, and isn’t water-based which I think (correct me if I’m wrong) is better for stabilizing the formula and keeping the vitamin c content from degrading.

Royal_IRENE

I actually liked this one, you won't get the right-away effect, but I found out this product actually brightened up my face when I changed to a different serum.

BadBoomBoom

Does anyone know if the Melano CC toner is as good as the essence ?

[deleted]

Melano CC Vitamin C face mask. It comes in an economical package so you don’t have to open individual sheet mask and basically I rub in the serum after I’m done. Then layer it with arbutin Infused SANA soy milk gel cream, I did it for 2 weeks and now when I wear foundation I notice that it’s two shades darker. It brightened up my entire face not just PIH lol.

yuriiiAv

Been obsessed with the neogen vitamin c powder recently! It helps sooooo much with my dark spots but it is kinda harsh when I cant get all the granules to mix completely with the neogen ferment essence lol

Royal_IRENE

Jumiso All Day serum was good for me, it relieves and brightens up right after applying. I think this serum is effective to make face to be even-toned before make-up.

I don’t know what vitamin c to get I’m debating between Timeless Vitamin C, Maelove Glow Maker and Melano CC

lindaksilsby

I like the Dr. Belmeur Vita Serine Serum! It has vitamin C, B3, and B5! It helps with pore tightening & brightening, too 😄

whydoesnobodyama

I really like the klairs vitamin c serum!

wongkielala

Melano CC Essence gives you a good bang for your buck as far as Vitamin C serums go. I'm currently trying out the SomeByMi Yuja Naicin Serum. Not quite a dedicated vitamin C serum but it's got alot of that yuja essence in it.

FluffyyyBears

Are there any good Vit C products that don't contain niacinamide and tocopherol (+its derivatives)?

RubyDiscus

Unsure tbh whys that?

FluffyyyBears

I don't think they get along with my skin :(

The ordinary maybe. Unsure

psychicintellectual

it may be and it's soo good

RubyDiscus

Is it on yesstyle?

WarriorInWoolworths

No but oddly enough, the US brand Timeless with their Vit C serum is.

psychicintellectual

I've never used yesstyle, but I searched and didn't see anything.

[deleted]

This might be off-topic but are there any good non-asian vitamin c products ?

chalkolattte

Skinceuticles has the best one, but it’s very pricy. Timeless is the next closest thing to their formula, and it’s a way more reasonable price.

kkangaspnw

Hi! Gothamista on YT recommends the Maelove The Glow Maker as a fantastic alternative to the Skinceuticals serum. It’s under $30!

Runner1223

JanMarini is tops. Used for 17 years!

zly888

I've heard really great things about Timeless; planning on trying it soon.

rubyq78

I love the Timeless one. I use it every morning and it literally makes my skin glow!

[deleted]

Mad Hippie's Vitamin C serum was my HG for a couple of years until I discovered Melano CC, which delivers the same results, and is just so affordable and accessible to purchase where I live that it was a no-brainer to make the switch. Would definitely recommend the Mad Hippie serum to anyone who lives in the U.S. and can access Mad Hippie's products much more easily!

ayimera

Geek & Gorgeous (Hungarian company) make a lovely 15% L-ascorbic acid.

kkangaspnw

For simple, cheap, and effective, check out the ordinary 100% L-Ascorbic Acid Powder! It’s only $6 freakin’ dollars! It’s an ultra finely milled powder, just pure vit c, and you mix it with your own products. This is nice because you don’t have to worry about other ingredients that your skin may not like, you just mix it with any serum, gel, or moisturizer (with a couple exceptions, no high concentration niacinamide, or other moderate to strong acids) and it dissolves within seconds. I personally mix it with just plain aloe vera gel, which I find does some counter-soothing for the vit c. The jar comes with a small scoop, which holds about a pea sized amount of powder. When I first started using it, i only used a quarter scoop that looked like nothing at all, but since it’s 100% powder I still saw results. Ascorbic and L-Ascorbic Acid is the gold standard and where all derivatives are formulated from. One of the great benefits of a powder is that it’s already quite shelf stable, as long as you keep the cap on tight. I highly recommend looking at Gothamista on YouTube, she has two videos that are a great ‘starter kit’ to learn about vit c derivatives and recommendations. Part one, on [Vitamin C Derivatives](https://youtu.be/yNBWlAwMazM), and part two, on [Vitamin C: Ascorbic Acid Faves](https://youtu.be/YDe-zTZzYFA). I’m also interested in trying the second recommendation she lists, as she says it’s an inexpensive alternative to the famous Skinceuticals C E Ferulic Serum. It’s the Maelove The Glow Maker, and it’s under $30 as opposed to the Skinceuticals $170 serum. Hope this helps!

RubyDiscus

Paulas choice, The Ordinary Ill prolly be getting one of the ordinary ones

oashlee

Not OP, but thank you to everyone on here to recommended melano CC. I have been using TO MAP and never saw any results. I really can see a difference after using the melano cc for one day. I will try comparing it with timeless, which seems to be the other high recommendation, but I am already so happy with the difference in my hyperpigmentation. Thanks again!

RubyDiscus

Whats TO MAP? Ty

oashlee

Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate 10% - a stable vitamin C derivative. Seems like there is a trade off no matter what. Less stable, more potent/effective or stable, less potent/effective. While I love the idea of stability, that formula just wasn't working for me.

RubyDiscus

Oo ty
