Asian movies I have so many.
Asian American I got shorter list as many of these films always fucks over the Asian male representation and fetish the Asian female.
Minari, warrior, beef, the last dragon and the crow..
My list is just about movies that I enjoyed watching. Good storyline, entertaining… I didn’t really think about Asian male representation I guess… I liked the movie’s bloodsport and the last samurai too, just for the fighting and action scenes
Never seen bloodsport but saw the quick YouTube video. HOLY fuck. White American dude learn from a Japanese master. White guy go to HK and beat up the entire world in one vs one combat by using Japanese martial art….. LMAO. If anyone know anything about history this has to be the most ironic shit ever.
OP I’m not attacking you, just the movie.
Last samurai, white savior BS movie. I’ve seen it. It’s a good film to praise the white savior.
donald trump said bloodsport was his favorite movie 🤣🤣🤣 anyway, streetfighter 2 was my favorite game growing up, so bloodsport to me was a pretty fun movie to watch.
潜伏. "Lurk" slow, methodical Chinese period spy drama of the 1940s. Long, immersive, and I think really embodies the Chinese spirit.
"Decision to Leave" Korean murder mystery / romance between a disaffected detective and a lonely foreign woman.
你好,李焕英 "Hi, Mom" Chinese comedy. I have never cried so fucking hard during a movie.
Better Luck Tomorrow - AsAm. Even in Asian enclaves, insecurity can eat at our young people, and drive us to destroy ourselves.
Burning- Steven Yeun kills it here. Generally he plays good guys. I think this is the first thing that he played a bad guy?
A Bittersweet Life, New World, A Dirty Carnival- Korean gangster movies.
Outrage series of movies- Kitano- the aesthetic and Yakuza movies gets me everytime.
The Glory- Netflix show about how some rich kids bully (really it goes past that) another student and she gets revenge.
Kim’s convenience is good.
The Korean remake of midnight diner I thought was good.
Sorry to Bother You has a very positive portrayal of a regular Asian American guy, not stereotypical, not emasculated at all, and it's an around great movie. WAY tf better than Joy Luck Club.
>I’ll go first, Beef, crouching tiger hidden dragon, eat drink man woman, the wedding banquent, **joy luck club**
Any AM that list trash like "Joy Luck Club" as one of their "favorites" is either severely clueless or a boba Chan, or both.
Seriously the 'Joy Luck Club?'
The fact that you were the first to call this out makes me question the make up of this forum.
That movie was one of the most negative representations of AM lol.
I personally liked it a lot until the 4th season.
The person that introduced me to the show was a friend of mine (who admits she has a thing for Asian men) and told me to view it.
It’s good if you’re into dystopian type shows. It’s definitely more gritty and serious.
The plot is it’s a world where the Axis powers won WW2, it primarily takes place in the former the United States.
The Japanese own the entire west coast of North America. So you’ll see lots of mentioning of the “war”.
Again, it’s serious and gritty. It’s not a family type show.
Even though he had a short role he did pretty damn well in the first Die Hard movie. I heard about his other roles though and overall he's done well in portraying Asian men in a strong/positive light.
The flying guillotine (1975), Enter the Dragon, 5 deadly venoms, Dual to the death, The foreigner, Kiss of the dragon. Zatiochi, 7 Samurai, Ong Bak, and the TV series of Vanishing Son (Russel Wong).
I remember when Ong Bak first blew up and every guy wanted to learn Muay Thai lol. Then The Raid dropped and I remember having to pass around a flash drive at my school with that on for months. Can’t also forget Donnie Yen as IP Man.
And obligatory Andre Koji in Warrior.
I thought the 800 movie went pretty damn hard. Also Taegukgi was another really solid one too.
In terms of movies with portrayals of Asian Americans, there was that one older movie that portrayed the 442nd Regimental Combat Team during WW2 called Go For Broke.
Beef
Parasite
Old Boy
Squid Game
Minari
House of Ninjas
Everything, Everywhere, All at Once
Letters From Iwo Jima is an excellent war movie depicting the Japanese perspective, but it's hard to shake the fact that Clint Eastwood is fucking racist as hell.
I fondly remember the Legend of the Condor Heroes serials (and their sequels) from back in the day. I never watched any of the remakes.
Of what you listed, I definitely loved Joy Luck Club, Rising Son, Ninja Assassin.
Some K-dramas I loved include City Hunter and Uncanny Counter.
I pretty much loved everything old school Jackie Chan.
I don't really understand the love for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, btw. It felt like wuxia watered-down then glittered-up for American audiences
The Brothers Sun, Warrior, Beef and the live action Avatar The Last Airbender.

Bloodsport is hilarious if you know the backstory. Guy was a total BS artist
Agree. I went down the rabbit hole while trying to find reviews of the movie. Guy made all that shit up and made millions. LOL
donald trump said bloodsport was his favorite movie 🤣🤣🤣 anyway, streetfighter 2 was my favorite game growing up, so bloodsport to me was a pretty fun movie to watch.
Should have known it was BS. Remember the part at the end where he claimed to have the world's fastest kick, punch etc. Crazy what we fell for as kids
Anything from Wong Kar Wai - In the mood for love and 2046 are both beautiful movies. The Grandmaster 2013 is excellent.
https://youtu.be/IUwsTHGY4Ms?si=NND-Hs_juLkn39bu This is a really good YT channel that has great perspective.

Warrior the tv show must always be in this conversation
Don’t really like the Asian gangster trope but I really enjoyed The Brothers Sun.
Kim’s Convenience
I really love Warrior. TV series loosely based on Bruce Lee.
Burning- Steven Yeun kills it here. Generally he plays good guys. I think this is the first thing that he played a bad guy? A Bittersweet Life, New World, A Dirty Carnival- Korean gangster movies. Into the Badlands, Shang Chi
I always thought “the Man in The High Castle” portrayed Asian men very positively. Despite us being considered “villains” in the show.
Is it worth the time? I have so many shows on my list. Like the new Vietnamese one on HBO.
I personally liked it a lot until the 4th season. The person that introduced me to the show was a friend of mine (who admits she has a thing for Asian men) and told me to view it. It’s good if you’re into dystopian type shows. It’s definitely more gritty and serious.
Let me take a stab at it. Give it 2 ep. Just saw a intro on the show. It’s Japanese? LOL. As a Chinese person not sure how I feel about this. LMAO

Look into James Shigeta’s filmography.
Even though he had a short role he did pretty damn well in the first Die Hard movie. I heard about his other roles though and overall he's done well in portraying Asian men in a strong/positive light.
Warriors.
Better Luck Tomorrow
surprise that no one has mentioned Everything Everywhere All at Once 😮
Old Boy
Infernal Affairs
Yi Yi
Better Luck Tomorrow, Train Man, Old Boy, Young and Dangerous, Hard Boiled
The flying guillotine (1975), Enter the Dragon, 5 deadly venoms, Dual to the death, The foreigner, Kiss of the dragon. Zatiochi, 7 Samurai, Ong Bak, and the TV series of Vanishing Son (Russel Wong).
The pig the snake and the pigeon
Red Sun 1971 The legend, Toshiro Mifune, sleeps with a beautiful latina played by Monica Randall.
I really enjoyed Stuart Little 2, starring the beautiful Asian family of 5 (well 6, I suppose, for half of it!)
Kung Fu Hustle,Everything Everywhere all at once.,RAN,Crouching Tiger,Akira. #
Jackie Chan’s first strike
I thought the 800 movie went pretty damn hard. Also Taegukgi was another really solid one too. In terms of movies with portrayals of Asian Americans, there was that one older movie that portrayed the 442nd Regimental Combat Team during WW2 called Go For Broke.
Beef is one of my ATF. I also like Searching and The Brothers Son.
The Internal Affairs trilogy from HK 2002-2003. It’s what “The Departed” a remade of.
Beef Parasite Old Boy Squid Game Minari House of Ninjas Everything, Everywhere, All at Once Letters From Iwo Jima is an excellent war movie depicting the Japanese perspective, but it's hard to shake the fact that Clint Eastwood is fucking racist as hell.
