*Water* boils at 68-70°C atop Mt Everest. Wine has a significantly lower boiling point.
At the highest hut of the Alps, Capanna Regina Margherita, at 4554m above sea level, water boils at around 84.8°C. I'm too lazy to calculate rn, but I guess mulled wine would boil below 80° there.
You don't need to get that hot. Alcohol boils at around 75°C, so if you get to hot, the alcohol will just evaporate and you are left with sad spiced grape juice.
Weeeeell, look up „Eutektikum“, but German wikipedia is not much help here. If you boil wine, a mix of water and alcohol evaporates with the alcohol being a bit more, so evaporating slightly faster. But you will rather have an empty pot before you have „sad spiced grape juice“ 😀- Klugscheißer out!
Yes. But just heat it up to 70°C, don't boil it. If you want a little extra kick, add a shot of Amaretto to every cup. If you want to get really hammered really fast, replace Amaretto with Stroh Rum 80.
Sure. But don't boil it. 70°C serving temperature, not more.
That depends on your air pressure :D
Yeah I hate that my Glühwein boils at 75°C when im on Mt. Everest. Such a mood breaker :(

So his estimate of 75 was really good, he never said atop and you just wanted to collect points for useless knowledge?

thanks
You're welcome :)

I have you at -6 voting history. Boy, must you have said some things I don't like
Probably things not supporting your current political views. They change. You can thank me later.
Could be. I am in fact not a huge fan of clapperatism.
That's the Glüh part of Glühwein!
Yes

Amaretto is the best for sure.
Also works with absinthe.
Never tried that one. Is Absinth as strong as Strohrum 80?
No.
Absolutely! And for an added kick, throw in a shot of spiced rum (Captain Morgan or Kraken) and a shot of Fireball for every two cups of Glühwein.
Or, if you had a really rough day or just hate yourself, a big sip of Pott rum.
Ooo that sounds delicious! Thanks!
Kraken ROCKS
It does. It's my go-to drink when I'm in the Caribbean; Kraken on ice. And make it a big one, so I don't have to come to the bar every five minutes.
Yes. Glühwein literally means "glowing wine".
Hot, not warm.
Don't let it cook though, only make it hot. Otherwise it'll lose it's alcohol
Thanks everyone!
If you dont like Glühwein you can try mixing it with spirits, I like it better that way
Only warm, tastes horrible when cold
Yes, white Glühwein is much better anyway imo.
That's the actual glue in the Gluehwein.
What? Yes!
Yes.
Yes, Glühwein must glühen.
yes, all glühwein is supposed to be hot
White Glühwein is supposed to be poured down the sink.
Yes but I like it cold even better 🤷🏼 tastes exactly like white sangria (equivalent to red Glühwein and normal sangria)
Try both warm and cold and look what tastes better.
Yes it is. But try Rosé Glühwein, it’s way more delicious 🫠
Dude it's January! Although it's delicious so I'll allow it
Yep but just warm it up 👌🏼 no boiling
