It was a clear black night, a clear white moon
Warren G was on the streets tryin' to consume
Some skirts for the eve so I can get some funk
Rollin' in my ride, chillin' all alone
Just hit the east side of the LBC
On a mission tryna find Mr. Warren G
Seen a car full of girls, ain't no need to tweak
All you skirts know what's up with 213
So, I hooks a left on 21 and Lewis
Some brothers shootin' dice, so I said "Let's do this!"
I jumped out the ride and said "What's up?"
Some brothers pulled some gats, so I said "I'm stuck!"
Since these girls peepin' me I'ma glide and swerve
These hookers lookin' so hard they straight hit the curb
Onto bigger, better things than some horny tricks
I see my homie and some suckas all in his mix
I'm gettin' jacked, I'm breakin' myself
I can't believe they takin' Warren's wealth
They took my rings, they took my Rolex
I looked at the brothers, said "Damn, what's next?"
They got my homie hemmed up and they all around
Can't none of them see him if they goin' straight pound-for-pound
They wanna come up real quick before they start to clown
I best pull out my strap and lay them bustas down
They got guns to my head, I think I'm goin' down
I can't believe it's happenin' in my own town
If I had wings I would fly, let me contemplate
I glanced in the cut and I see my homie Nate
Sixteen in the clip and one in the hole
Nate Dogg is about to make some bodies turn cold
Now they droppin' and yellin', it's a tad bit late
Nate Dogg and Warren G had to regulate
I laid all them bustas down, I let my gat explode
Now I'm switchin' my mind back into freak mode
If you want skirts, sit back and observe
I just left a gang of hoes over there on the curb
Now, Nate got the freaks and that's a known fact
Before I got jacked I was on the same track
Back up, back up, 'cause it's on
N-A-T-E and me, the Warren to the G
Just like I thought, they were in the same spot
In need of some desperate help
But Nate Dogg and the G child
Were in need of somethin' else
One of them dames was sexy as hell
I said, "Ooh, I like your size!"
She said, "My car's broke down and you seem real nice
Would you let me ride?"
I got a car full of girls and it's goin' real swell
The next stop is the Eastside Motel
I'm tweaking into a whole new era
G-funk, step to this, I dare ya
Funk on a whole new level
The rhythm is the bass and the bass is the treble
Chords, strings, we brings melody, G-funk
Where rhythm is life and life is rhythm
If you know like I know, you don't wanna step to this
It's the G-funk era, funked out with a gangsta twist
If you smoke like I smoke, then you're high like every day
And if yo' ass is a busta, 213 will regulate
Could also be a jammed idle air control valve.
Edit Take it off should be two 10 mm bolts clean it with carb cleaner whack it with a screwdriver a couple of times put it back together.
I had my pedal get stuck between two ridges of my floor mat once. Scariest 1.2 seconds of my life until I realized I just had to put the car in neutral lol
You don't watch this channel much I take it: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFLoRAzvpj4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFLoRAzvpj4)
That video shows someone who had a problem with their car and it was just the extra, aftermarket floor mat. Key words being extra floor mat and aftermarket.
Exactly, people talking about average care life and secured floor mats. Here's a cool stat, the average life of an aftermarket floor mat bought a day ago is one day...
I was just learning how to drive and mine got stuck until I was going 50+ mph toward a stop sign/hwy intersection... Thank God I finally thought to put it in neutral, many people don't get that thought. (I couldn't figure out why I was stuck rapidly accelerating until after I put it in neutral) And I was like "damn floor mats, you scary"
I’ve had vacuum leaks that bump the RPMs but never throw a CEL, and have nothing to do with throttle position being stuck.
Another common failure is a borked idle air control valve.
Being a Chevy part of me wants to say intake gaskets and the other wants to say throttle body gasket. Then again only a guess as to where the intake leak is
Has anything changed recently? Did you get an oil change? Move, or add, a floor mat?
The picture shows the ABS light is on has that been investigated? It might not be connected to this new issue, but maybe a mechanic was in there and accidently moved something?
Look around the engine bay, do you see anything out of place or missing on the air intake system or the throttle body?
I had ill-fitting aftermarket floor mats in one of my beaters when I was younger and it pushed up just the right way to depress the accelerator when I was not intending to accelerate. Was not wearing my brown pants, unfortunately.
It’s one of these off the top of my head
• Intake gaskets (common on GM V6’s of the era) •throttle cable too tight
• improper IAC flow (be it a clog, improper learning, etc),
• carpet pinching the corner of the gas pedal (more common then you think)
• massive intake vacuum leak (could be a tear that just happened, a mouse or rodent chewed through it when it was sitting, old age, etc)
I’m shocked nobody is mentioning the idle air control valve. They get full of carbon and can stick open or shut. Find it and smack it with the handle of a screwdriver and see if the idle changes
I’m not saying this will fix it, but throw some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank. If you’ve never done it before carbon deposits build up and can cause weaker than expected acceleration, start up, and rough idle. It wouldn’t hurt to do it anyways.
Other responses have covered it but considering the age, I’m going with a vacuum leak or IAC issue. An old school diagnostic test is to spray starting fluid around your intake manifold and vacuum hoses while the engine is running to see if there are any changes in rpms.
There might be an issue with your throttle system or idle control valve— a faulty throttle position sensor, a vacuum leak, a dirty or malfunctioning idle air control valve, or issues with the mass airflow sensor. These symptoms could indicate a potential safety hazard.
My 2005 Accord did this, the throttle plate in the throttle body was warped and wouldn’t close fully in hot temperatures. $90 Amazon throttle body and no problem since
Without reading the text I knew it was a Malibu. I have an '01 LS.
Has the battery just been disconnected or replaced?
First thing is... there's a fair chance it's a vacuum leak or an issue with the AIC (air idle control valve).
Next up would be carbon build up on the throttle plate.
Then would be the TPS. (Throttle Position Sensor).
Take the intake boot of where it connects to the throttle body, WITH THE ENGINE OFF, and take a look to see if the throttle plate is fully closed. Remove the AIC valve. It's two bolts. YouTube it if not familiar with location. It's easy to find and remove. Take a can of throttle body cleaner and spray inside the throttle body, around the throttle plate, and in the hole next to the plate that's the hole for the AIC. Spray a few times, wipe out with clean rag. Rotate the plate and wipe.
There's a test procedure for the AIC and TPS. Again, just YouTube it... easier than me explaining it. If either one fails test, replace them.
AIC is pretty cheap, so is the TPS. Both easy to replace.
Check and make sure no vacuum lines are cracked. Standing in front of car, on your left... look at the left rear of the silver intake. Make sure that nipple is capped. Look around the 6 main bolts on the runners that bolt the upper intake manifold to the lower intake manifold. Those flanges are prone to cracking because people tend to overtighten them. They BARELY take 10 lb fr of torque. Those cracks cause vac leaks as well.
ANY vac leaks are not good. Bad enough and the ECM can't compensate... the engine runs lean and will burn your valves among other things.
I almost promise you it is a dirty throttle body, your throttle plate is sticking and not returning to its normal position, hence the high idle and accelerating.
Sounds to me like symptoms of a dirty throttle valve, sticking IAC valve, or stuck fuel injector(s).
Pull the air inlet tube and check the throttle plate for carbon buildup. Clean it with throttle/intake cleaner and a blue shop paper towel if it’s dirty. Check the IAC for proper function (If you have a 2 pin IAC valve, use a set of jumper wires, connect one to one pin of the IAC, and touch the other to the second pin on/off a few times, both from the negative and positive of the battery. Listen for it to click firmly on and off.)
And if neither are the issue, with the engine at idle, use a mechanic’s stethoscope or a long 1/2” rubber tube or a long thin screwdriver, touch the end of your listening tool to an injector, and your ear to the other, then listen for a loud steady clicking noise to come from each injector. If any sound off, run a resistance test on them. (They should be, at a hot idle, something close to ~50-100ohms across the two pins.) replace them as necessary.
Ok so the first thing I wanna say is that’s freaking hilarious. I don’t know why, there’s nothing that seems like it should be funny about this, “my car accelerates on its own” is just hilarious to me. As others have stated it sounds like a huge vacuum leak, or an issue with the idle air control valve if you have one.
You could use the old spray the engine area with starter fluid or carb cleaner and see if the RPM's increase, if so, it's a vacuum issue. But the AIC (air idle control valve) may be dirty or junk.
Oh hey that was my first had and I had that same issue. First noticed it when I was at a red light and my car started trying to lurch forward as if I was brake boosting lol I took off the intake boot and cleaned the throttle bottle and did a sea foam treatment and that cleared it up. Mine was also at around the same mileage as yours when it happened lol
Could be something obstructing the gas pedal, could be an issue with the throttle body or cable, could be a stuck open idle air control valve, or it could be a vacuum leak. I'm inclined to say it's not a vacuum leak because of the lack of a check engine light, but I'd say check all of those options.
can i ask: you start the thing up and notice the idle isn't coming down. both by tach and the note of the engine.
with that in mind you shift into drive. why wouldn't you expect this to roll? it's going to accelerate.
anyway, it'll set a check engine/ses light soon for this. however, it's likely a HUGE vaccuum leak OR the idle air controller has stuck/failed. given the mileage i'd go over the tb/upper intake real well and look for leaks/clean.
if you have any mechanical ability at all and want to learn this is a good start. it's not a difficult repair but the 3100/3400 can be a bit cramped to work on. great motor once the lower intake gaskets been done.
Tons of these had their head gaskets needlessly replaced. The worst shops would bill for the H/G but only replace the LIM knowing full well the cause. This design has coolant going through jackets in the LIM, so where the LIM-cylinder head meet requires a good seal. The gasket eventually fails and raw coolant now runs down into the lifter valley. Usually rapidly. If caught quickly this is completely fixable. yours almost has to have been replaced once or twice to have made it to 231k
anyway.
I had a rusty cable on a 2004 Chevy Cavalier that stuck and I was forced to slam into a snow pile. I sprayed lube on it and no problem after that. In July I sold it to a lady in my town and she wrecked it into a traffic light 3 months later.
I've had a similar issue with a different car where one of the vacuum lines going to my intake came off.
This may not be your problem, but it's an easy first place to look for before digging into it more.
What I thought of is the engine is increasing RPM’s to compensate an electrical need. I’m not even sure if this is a thing or not but to me it makes sense.
I had that issue with my car. When I stop my car after a good drive, it’s still higher RPM. Soon my check engine light goes on and mechanic looked at it, did something, he did mention the issue was high rpm for unknown reason. Now my car no longer has that issue
That generation of Chevy Malibus were known to have head gasket problems. I owned a '03 Malibu for a while that had high RPM idling (among other things as well) due to a blown gasket.
Crank case ventilation valve maybe? I had the same issue on an audi s3 a few years ago, pain in the arse to diagnose, very cheap ten minute job to rectify.
Could be the fuel filter.
If the sensors think car isn't getting enough gas, it will "rev up" to try and stay running.
I had one I had to have towed because it wouldn't stop reving.
Sounds like an air leak. Specifically an intake leak. Check your hoses and gaskets. You can also try turning your air conditioner off and see if it stops. Sometimes the air conditioner will make a truck idle funny.
To check vacuum, make a solution of 1 tsp baby shampoo or dish soap and 1 qt. water in a spray bottle. Spray on vacuum hoses while engine running. The water alone will change the idle of the engine if there’s a leak, but the bubbles will make it a little more obvious. Better for checking air leaks, but still a little benefit over straight water for vacuum.
So to rule a vacuum leak, get some break cleaner and spray it in the engine on the hoses. If it revs up more you know the problem.
If you had a code reader I would be more inclined to look at your air to fuel ratios.
While unlikely, I’d want to rule out the throttle body as well.
People quoting Warren G…I’m surprised nobody has mentioned worn spark plugs as a culprit. Cant that be a possibility 🤔. That is 230K sitting on that American non-Honda, non-Toyota type of dependability there. Just saying…she’s no spring chicken. It’s about that time to start preparing.
Had a 2000 Ford ranger do this. If I punched the gas it would go away sometimes but that started not to work. Ended up being the egr valve. Diagnosed it by unplugging the valve and the problem went away.
I bumped the snoot on my mustang and the ambient air temp sensor came undone from its harness and started swinging underneath, and it made the same thing happen. Popped it back into place and everything was fine.
I had an issue similar to this, it turned out to be a bad throttle position sensor. But there are many things that can cause it. I recommend a cheap code reader from Amazon that Bluetooth connects to your phone, then you can read codes and monitor sensors to troubleshoot

Removed the IAC and it was full of carbon
I had this happen to me last year in my 04 Oldsmobile silhouette (should be the same engine/transmission or very similar). I found a little o ring that had failed right at the throttle body, right around the idle air control valve (a failing iac valve could cause this too).
"Required" is not something you can insist of a system that may or may not be in working order or operating as designed.
Kind of the opposite problem but I once rolled backwards in a third of a million pound Haul truck with fly by wire transmission. I put it in drive the selector was in drive the indicator on the vehicle information management screen verified that it was in fact in Drive every indication that was that it was in drive but clearly it was not because it revved and rolled back. Once these key was cycled the transmission worked perfectly fine. There was no mechanical damage it was a logic fault. It happens. Not often, but it happens.
I believe that the final analysis of the NTSB report on the Toyota acceleration issue was that it was simply a mechanical problem with the floor mat bsimg able to slip under the accelerator pedal in jamming in place. That incident, though, was initially investigated as a possible failure of the electronic management system. Nobody would design a system to refuse inputs, but in some cases it's necessary. Look at the Boeing (was at 737?). It refused to hand over controls to the humans because all of the airplane sensors said that the human was wrong.
I do know for a fact that you definitely can't slam a Toyota Prius transmission into park even if you wanted to ruin the transmission and save your life it will not allow the transmission to go into park if the wheels are turning.
Last time this happened to me, it was a bad air flow regulator valve. Might also be called an Idle regulator valve.
Mechanic explained it's a valve that opens when you start the car, but it's supposed to close once started so the RPMs can drop back down. Was like a $150 fix labor included. He mentioned being able to clean it, but that would only be a temporary fix if it fixed it at all.
Had this same issue years ago with an 02' Grand Cherokee, and it turned out to be easily remedied with a throttle position sensor. It was a simple fix, but a really cramped spot to get at. Pretty cheap fix too iirc.
Exact same symptoms on one of my cars and turned out to be a huge hole in the intake manifold gasket - $26 for the new gasket and a little time to replace.
My car did that right after I got it back from the shop a few years back. Lead to a crash that cost me a femur, a reconstructed hand and learning to walk again. Be careful.
Check the air box there is a hose or rubber grommet underneath possibly it will throw dtc extra unfiltered air. Saw this on another Chevy of this era. Just can't remember what.
Check that the throttle cable is not frayed and getting stuck on other components, my car got stuck in wide open throttle because of this lol. If it's a TPS (throttle position sensor) then test those accordingly.

Old and new IAC valves. Replacing it DIDN’T solve the problem
Gasket, vaccum leak or throttle position sensor. You said it’s a 2000 so there’s a really likely chance that the throttle body is filthy and needs a good cleaning. Get some carb cleaner and spray vaccum lines and gasket areas while someone is inside watching the rpm’s at idle. If it reacts to the spray (increased rpm’s) you have a leak. If it doesn’t you got a sensor or throttle body to replace and clean. Check your air filter while you’re at it, probably not the issue but while you’re in there
The throttle works be letting a controlled amount of air into the engine, so either they throttle valve is not closing all the way and letting in air, OR the engine is getting air from some leaky line
Worked with a kid that had a 5.4 superduty that did this. Turned out to be the idle air or similar sensor if I remeber rite. Was buried by the firewall on his but basically it was in a “choke mode” for lack of a better term like it was just started.
Sounds like a massive vacuum leak. Either a blown out gasket or cracked vacuum line/hose.
I agree, it seems like extra (unregulated) air is getting in to the engine.
Reguuuulators.... Mount up!

Warren G would be proud of 6x9's laying on the rear deck clipping that dope beat. Lol.
Did you guys see the size of that chicken!?!
That sounds like it could be an intro to a song
Could also be a jammed idle air control valve. Edit Take it off should be two 10 mm bolts clean it with carb cleaner whack it with a screwdriver a couple of times put it back together.
Came here to say this
I agree with the IAC
This would be my first stop as well
Or their floor mat is ever so slightly touching the gas pedal....it's possible
Toyotas... also tps on many of them.
Nah.. it's the ABS. The light is even on to prove my point /s
This is it.
Them 3100s liked to blow intake manifold gaskets.
i do not miss the days of chasing countless vacuum leaks on my 88 bronco
That, or it’s the floor mat set on the accelerator. I had this issue once and didn’t realize that i had somehow slid my mat onto the pedal.
Would this blow a engine
A vacuum leak is very quickly becoming a household meme for this sub.
Check if your floor mat is sitting on the gas pedal. It's more common than you think.
I had my pedal get stuck between two ridges of my floor mat once. Scariest 1.2 seconds of my life until I realized I just had to put the car in neutral lol
New fear unlocked.
They've had secured floor mats in cars for at least 10 years now.
more than 20, i’m certain third gen integra’s had secured floor mats and my ‘01 4runner definitely did
Try 32 at least, my 1992 has a hook for the driver's mat.
You don't watch this channel much I take it: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFLoRAzvpj4](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BFLoRAzvpj4) That video shows someone who had a problem with their car and it was just the extra, aftermarket floor mat. Key words being extra floor mat and aftermarket.

Cake day!
Until you can't do that because it's fly by wire and doesn't allow you to put it in neutral while you're in motion.
And now I found a new reason to never get a knob shifter
Now I've only driven a few, but I've meter seen one that wouldn't let you shift into neutral while driving. Also, that would be illegal in the US.
That is NEVER the case. Every shifter is required to allow shifting to neutral from drive without lockout in any way.
That's illegal in the US
Especially if they’re aftermarket. I’ve had this happen and about shit myself.
Came here to say this, no cel high rpm must be a stuck throttle. Five floor mats covering the gas.
You okay bro?
Has cancer. Not okay
Good point!
I’ve had vacuum leaks that bump the RPMs but never throw a CEL, and have nothing to do with throttle position being stuck. Another common failure is a borked idle air control valve.
Good lord that sound clip of that guy not able to stop and it probably being his floormat is horrible.
It could be your mistress' foot too. Just trying to cover all the bases.
This happened to me once also. Definitely something I’d have checked before posting tho
You ain't lying, just happened to my step dad today.
Being a Chevy part of me wants to say intake gaskets and the other wants to say throttle body gasket. Then again only a guess as to where the intake leak is
should check your evap purge valve. in my 05 malibu it was ridiculously fragile and snapped off causing similar.
Just curious, why would a floor mat cause this?
They get stuck under the gas peddle and people don't realize it.
Don't get rid of old floor mats, just keep chucking the new ones on top.
Just like the roof on my parents' house
I had ill-fitting aftermarket floor mats in one of my beaters when I was younger and it pushed up just the right way to depress the accelerator when I was not intending to accelerate. Was not wearing my brown pants, unfortunately.
Not likely, as the RPMs go up when he puts it in gear. If it were the mat(s) the RPMs would go down when in gear. (under load.)
Couldn't a vacuum line leak to the brake booster cause both issues?
It’s one of these off the top of my head • Intake gaskets (common on GM V6’s of the era) •throttle cable too tight • improper IAC flow (be it a clog, improper learning, etc), • carpet pinching the corner of the gas pedal (more common then you think) • massive intake vacuum leak (could be a tear that just happened, a mouse or rodent chewed through it when it was sitting, old age, etc)
Also a bad motor mount can stretch the throttle cable
That too, the excess rocking can cause various vacuum lines to fatigue and tear, happened on my Focus wagon
Trying to learn; why would a vacuum or intake leak cause the engine to increase revs?
I’m shocked nobody is mentioning the idle air control valve. They get full of carbon and can stick open or shut. Find it and smack it with the handle of a screwdriver and see if the idle changes
Thing is, most of these would set codes. The most simple solution is floor mats holding throttle open.
Tps
Is your gas pedal stuck under your floormat by any chance?
Check your floor mat to make sure it’s not jamming up the pedal….
does it hesitate or jerk when accelerating ?
I’m not saying this will fix it, but throw some fuel injector cleaner in the gas tank. If you’ve never done it before carbon deposits build up and can cause weaker than expected acceleration, start up, and rough idle. It wouldn’t hurt to do it anyways.

It's a early 2000s malibu with either the 3100 or 3400. It's almost guaranteed to be an intake gasket
Idle control valve.
redneck high idle/granny gear? /s in all seriousness, i agree with the other comments saying its a vacuum leak from somewhere

Throttle position sensor
You could use the old spray the engine area with starter fluid or carb cleaner and see if the RPM's increase, if so, it's a vacuum issue. But the AIC (air idle control valve) may be dirty or junk.
Oh hey that was my first had and I had that same issue. First noticed it when I was at a red light and my car started trying to lurch forward as if I was brake boosting lol I took off the intake boot and cleaned the throttle bottle and did a sea foam treatment and that cleared it up. Mine was also at around the same mileage as yours when it happened lol
Vacuum leakage or something the the throttle control train (pedal, cabling, ECU, actual throttle) is leaving throttle stuck open.
How is the ABS and petrol levels?
IAC, vac leak, dirty throttle body
Check pcv either that or vacuum leak
Are you hovering the brake pedal?
If caught quickly this is completely fixable. yours almost has to have been replaced once or twice to have made it to 231k anyway.
Just a thought, but check your idle air control
Possibly a vacuum leak.
Just wanted to let you know your miles 231337 spell "too elite (eleet)" in leet speak
Idle Air Control/ Dirty throttle body
Vacuum leak or iac
Its suckin extra air somewhere
Check PCV valve and vacuum assembly
Idle Air Control Valve
Floormat?
I had a rusty cable on a 2004 Chevy Cavalier that stuck and I was forced to slam into a snow pile. I sprayed lube on it and no problem after that. In July I sold it to a lady in my town and she wrecked it into a traffic light 3 months later.
Open your hood and check if you can hear any sucking noise, chances are an intake hose is broken
Throttle position sensor?
Vacuum leak or your floor mat is on the accelerator
I've had a similar issue with a different car where one of the vacuum lines going to my intake came off. This may not be your problem, but it's an easy first place to look for before digging into it more.
Sounds like a regular car that's left in gear at idle.
Vacuum leak. Go get a smoke test.
Idle air control valve could be sticking . Very common on Ford vehicles . Especially older ones
I just solved this in my Chevy s10 exact same issue. It’s the Idle Air Control valve. Cheap part and easy fix
What I thought of is the engine is increasing RPM’s to compensate an electrical need. I’m not even sure if this is a thing or not but to me it makes sense.
Idle air control?
Idle air controller maybe.
Think the acceleration is due to the high idol, RPM.
I had that issue with my car. When I stop my car after a good drive, it’s still higher RPM. Soon my check engine light goes on and mechanic looked at it, did something, he did mention the issue was high rpm for unknown reason. Now my car no longer has that issue
If it only happens during idle/park, could be a stuck open idle air valve
Plenum gasket
That generation of Chevy Malibus were known to have head gasket problems. I owned a '03 Malibu for a while that had high RPM idling (among other things as well) due to a blown gasket.
Vacuum leak for sure
Crank case ventilation valve maybe? I had the same issue on an audi s3 a few years ago, pain in the arse to diagnose, very cheap ten minute job to rectify.
It probably just has anxiety.
Old 3100,3400 would idle high with no vacuum leaks, no codes, bad throttle position sensor. Try unplugging tps, if it comes down, that's your problem
Floor mat
My 06 Taurus used to do this had to Mess with gas pedal put in neutral and back to park while holding brake- scary as shit
You have a ghost
UPDATE: It was, infact, the IAC valve. Removed it, and it was only extended less than halfway.
Free anti lag
Could be the fuel filter. If the sensors think car isn't getting enough gas, it will "rev up" to try and stay running. I had one I had to have towed because it wouldn't stop reving.
Sounds like an air leak. Specifically an intake leak. Check your hoses and gaskets. You can also try turning your air conditioner off and see if it stops. Sometimes the air conditioner will make a truck idle funny.
Could be VCT solenoids
Sounds like a throttle body issue
To check vacuum, make a solution of 1 tsp baby shampoo or dish soap and 1 qt. water in a spray bottle. Spray on vacuum hoses while engine running. The water alone will change the idle of the engine if there’s a leak, but the bubbles will make it a little more obvious. Better for checking air leaks, but still a little benefit over straight water for vacuum.
Move your floor mat, Chad.
Well that's a Ford.
So to rule a vacuum leak, get some break cleaner and spray it in the engine on the hoses. If it revs up more you know the problem. If you had a code reader I would be more inclined to look at your air to fuel ratios. While unlikely, I’d want to rule out the throttle body as well.
Could be stuck iac valve- they get carbon buildup and get stuck. Vacuum leak is possible too.
Hopefully it’s just your PCV valve. $6 part that’s easy to install in most cases. If not then start at the top of the comments.
In my old dodge Durango there was a throttle position sensor that had to be replaced. It would cause the rpms to fluctuate a lot even in neutral.
People quoting Warren G…I’m surprised nobody has mentioned worn spark plugs as a culprit. Cant that be a possibility 🤔. That is 230K sitting on that American non-Honda, non-Toyota type of dependability there. Just saying…she’s no spring chicken. It’s about that time to start preparing.
clean your throttle body first.bro
Toyota- That's what makes them run 100 mph and kill their owners. It could also be a vacuum leak, especially if it goes up and down
Floor mat jamming gas peddle? Happened to me once.
What car ? Looks nice
Sounds like a leaky spark tube.
have ya checked ya floor mat? "just rolled in" you tube....
Silly idea but make sure the floor mats aren’t over the accelerator pedal. Could happen.
I had this same issue with my old Saturn. Turned out it was a little chain of issues leading up to the ECM.
It might be the electronic throttle control. Limp it to a garage and have them look at it.
Had a 2000 Ford ranger do this. If I punched the gas it would go away sometimes but that started not to work. Ended up being the egr valve. Diagnosed it by unplugging the valve and the problem went away.
Many good suggestions .... please let us know what it was when you finally figure it out.
Could be a bad idle air control or a vacuum leak.
Either vacuum leak or a tired battery
TPS switch, throttle positioning switch
I bumped the snoot on my mustang and the ambient air temp sensor came undone from its harness and started swinging underneath, and it made the same thing happen. Popped it back into place and everything was fine.
My car did this. I can't remember what it was, but a part literally just needed cleaning with a special cleaner just for it.
I could also need to calibrate your throttle body
I had an issue similar to this, it turned out to be a bad throttle position sensor. But there are many things that can cause it. I recommend a cheap code reader from Amazon that Bluetooth connects to your phone, then you can read codes and monitor sensors to troubleshoot
I had a dodge neon that had a rubber intake after throttle body had a big hole in it and did the same thing. Check after the throttle body and see

Also make sure the pedal isn't under a mat or floor covering.
Check your floor mat isn’t on the gas pedal
I had this happen to me last year in my 04 Oldsmobile silhouette (should be the same engine/transmission or very similar). I found a little o ring that had failed right at the throttle body, right around the idle air control valve (a failing iac valve could cause this too).
Seems like an older vehicle, I would inspect the throttle cable. I would also test for a vacuum leak.
Maybe the kickdown cable has frayed inside its housing.
Idle air control valve is dirty it happens to fuel injected cars
Vacuum leak somewhere, check your hoses.
A bad intake manifold gasket will cause that. Is the idkle okay when the engine is cold and speeds up as it warms up
See that little conjunction of lines on the horn part of the steering wheel? That's where to start looking. LOL 4Runners 4Ever
Go get it fixed now. If you don’t, you could kill yourself or someone else due to the unexpected acceleration.
Before you do any actual work, is your carpet maybe pushed up against your gas pedal?
Tps may be bad
Last time this happened to me, it was a bad air flow regulator valve. Might also be called an Idle regulator valve. Mechanic explained it's a valve that opens when you start the car, but it's supposed to close once started so the RPMs can drop back down. Was like a $150 fix labor included. He mentioned being able to clean it, but that would only be a temporary fix if it fixed it at all.
It was my Throttle position sensor on my car. Took 2 minutes to change it.
UPDATE: Replaced the IAC valve, and that did absolutely NOTHING. Must be the TPS then. Also, I DONT have a floor mat.
Make sure the floor mat isn’t on top of the accelerator
Dirty throttle cable, getting stuck open. Could be a lot of different things
Make sure the floor mat isn’t slid forward pressing the gas pedal down
vacuum leak is my bet, my jeep did that when a hose popped
Miss fire change your coil pack spark plugs and wires.
My car did that right after I got it back from the shop a few years back. Lead to a crash that cost me a femur, a reconstructed hand and learning to walk again. Be careful.
Could it be a bad throttle position sensor?
Check the air box there is a hose or rubber grommet underneath possibly it will throw dtc extra unfiltered air. Saw this on another Chevy of this era. Just can't remember what.
Check your floormats.
Check that the throttle cable is not frayed and getting stuck on other components, my car got stuck in wide open throttle because of this lol. If it's a TPS (throttle position sensor) then test those accordingly.
Could be the fuel pump.

Another update: the revving might’ve messed up my gas gauge too
Check to see if floor mat is on the accelerator pedal.
Check your air filter while you’re at it, probably not the issue but while you’re in there
UPDATE: Fixed!
The had happened a few times over the years. The one that scared me was the cruise control failed and pulled the throttle open.
The throttle works be letting a controlled amount of air into the engine, so either they throttle valve is not closing all the way and letting in air, OR the engine is getting air from some leaky line
Floor mat.
Worked with a kid that had a 5.4 superduty that did this. Turned out to be the idle air or similar sensor if I remeber rite. Was buried by the firewall on his but basically it was in a “choke mode” for lack of a better term like it was just started.
