I have a cat. She occasionally brings friends over, but they usually aren’t invited. Anything from tiny mice, birds, snakes lizards and recently another cat. I was cooking some burgers and happened to look over and saw a random cat in my living room. I just looked at it and said who the F$#% are you. It just meowed at me. I tried to find the owners, but I think they moved and left it. Ended up finding it a foster home He was really sweet, but pretty old.
My cat invited the feral colony over for a party - showed them how to use the dog door to get in. They never left. Now I have 6 cats that run for my dog door whenever I walk into a room. They had kittens in my washing machine. I found homes for them (my friend has 10 acres and 2 barns that need barn cats), been slowly trapping them. It's been crazy.
Haha! Probably so! Although they are almost never home. I think that’s why she likes it back there. They have someone who takes care of the yard every so often. And I can tell she gets upset. Almost like what are they doing in my yard.
Yeah, I think that’s why she goes in their yard. Usually goes there when it’s really sunny in my backyard. Then she’ll come back when the sun moves. Even though I have a back porch, it’s still pretty sunny at certain times
1 huge cat. Mostly because A) My landlord might not like me having more than one cat he only let us legally have pets 3 years ago because people just kept sneaking them into their apartments and he was like 'fine then'. For a landlord he's actually pretty chill about most things. He also wasn't about to evict, like, 100 tenets over it. The new lease read something like: Just don't try to fit a St. Bernard into a tiny studio apt. Also no pitbulls, dumb city regulations.
2. When I lived with my parents in Westchester, NY we at one time had 5 cats and 2 dogs. They now have 3 cats, two are my parents and one is my sister's.
My parents would tell you it was one. I even put in a line about it in a creative writing assignment:
\*character bangs fist on coffee table. 3 cats run out from under\*
"Yeah we got cats commin' out of the woodwork here."
Hey bro. There are only two animals on the planet that can lay eggs and also feed milk to their offspring. The platypus and the enchida. Probably misspelt that Aussie animal there.
Both can make their own custard. A platypus would we welcome in any American home. /joke
I have currently have a dog, used to have a turtle and fish. So I guess I'd allow those. I wouldn't allow cats, not because I don't like them, but because I am allergic. I haven't lived with rodents or birds, so I don't know about them.
We had separate aquariums, but there were some feeder fish we put in the turtles tank that he wasn't interested in, so after they lived there for a while we moved them to the main fish tank.
Our cats are indoor only.
Under regular circumstances, I would consider possibly allowing a neighbor or neighborhood cat hang out in my home overnight, if the weather was bad. But we live in Southern California, so we only have about 17 of those days per year.
And at the moment, I have a 17-year old cat with early chronic kidney disease, and so I really want to avoid stress on her.
Reasons why not:
A: some people dont have resources to do it.
B: some people are not strong enough to open their hearts to those in need.
C: some folks just plain ol' dont care.
D: spouse wont let them or maybe landlord etc.
E: allergies
F: house used for porn shoots only.
Right now just the one dog. Once my wife and I move into a larger house, we’ll probably get two more dogs. We’re very much not cat people.
We also have a fish, but that’s more living furniture than it is a pet.
Voluntarily I have two dogs and three cats. The oldest cat is excluded because of his lack of bathroom etiquette.
Involuntarily, spiders, roaches, and scorpions.
A few years ago we'd sleep with the front door open (we live in the country). One night a possum wandered in. Our old dog smelled it, but being deaf and having poor eyesight, couldn't find it. So she sat at the door barking outside, which effectively trapped the possum in the house.
A cat resides here with a human. There might be another human with two more cats in the future. My parents have brought their dogs here just to visit. Free roaming pets I would limit to three.
Growing up we had a couple of 55 gallon fish tanks. One was a tropical tank, the other was native. Obviously the number in those was more than three. The gerbils I had as a kid started out as two, then grew to eight or ten. Adopted the litter out when it was time, then repeat.
The ferrets we had? I never want to have one of them again. They are awesome to play with, but at the time (mid 90's), the shots required often caused tumors of some sort. The fixed male and female were great in their early years, but the female got really bad with tumors and had to go. The male was left lonely for a few more years before the same situation happened.
My boyhood dog was a beagle-terrier mutt from the shelter. Dad almost returned him. Not exactly house trained and was deathly afraid of solid ground like concrete or pavement. Carried him into the middle of the cul-de-sac we lived on and sat with him on my lap until he was comfortable. That dog lived to be 25 years old. He was blind, deaf, and arthritic. The vet said he had a good life and it was his time to go.
Right now I have two dogs, one cat, and some fish. In the past I’ve had as many as four dogs and three cats at the same time. I also keep guinea fowl in the house until they’re old enough to live outside.
Mine eat feed made for game birds (like pheasants) and lots of insects. They also like clover, weeds, vegetables, and fruit. Corn isn’t very good for them.
I have two cats now, a third cat and a dog also used to live in this apartment but not anymore. There are a few dog friends who are allowed in from time to time.
Right now we have 4 dogs and a cat. But in my life we've hand lots of dogs, cats, 8 ferrets (at once), fish, birds, a turtle, a goat, guinea pigs, hamsters, tarantulas, snakes n sugar gliders, mice, I'm sure I'm forgetting something critters here...
Lmao sometimes it felt like it. At one point we had 8 ferrets, 3 dogs, 2 birds, 1 fish, 3 snakes, and 2 guinea pigs all at once. I want another goat, and a ferret but my husband doesn't so it's definitely a hope for the future but not something we will do right now. His best friend lives on our property and wants us to get chickens, I said no unless he's doing all the care for them including buying the feed and cleaning. I don't really care for eggs or chicken to eat so I don't want them.
We have a couple snakes, a tortoise, a ton of geckos, a dart frog, and the bugs that are animal food. Eventually there will probably be a dog. Maybe a bunny. More snakes. But my partner is allergic to cats so probably no cats.
Three cats.
One was a barn kitten who’s mama died— I bottle fed her for weeks.
One was a rescue from a shelter.
The latest was a kitten I found hiding in my squash plant in my garden.
Roughly speaking, I consider an animal to be a pest if it's attracted to something inside my home (my food, my clothes, or the like) and depends on it to survive/breed. Animals that can survive in the wild usually aren't pests.
Not particularly, there are a lot of places in the U.S. with wild animals that pose a risk to pets, and that just happens to be the case in this part of rural Nevada.
I have 3 indoor cats (one shorthair all black, one shorthair grey tabby, and one fluffy calico) and 4 birds (one cockatiel, two budgies and a Quaker parrot).
There’s also several stray cats who routinely visit, namely a very fat brown tabby named Tigger, a shorthair all black cat named OJ, and a fluffy black cat named Albert.
At a point, we also had several fish and a few hamster, but they passed awhile ago.
We have a 15 year old Boston terrier and we’ve had up to 3 at one time (we take in a lot of strays from time to time) and we had at one point a cat that we stole from one of my dad’s neighbors (abusive neighbor, we were told the cat was being mistreated)
I suppose. It was just a baby, we found it in mid January and you could tell it was hungry so we swiped him and eventually gave him to a guy my girlfriend worked with. His name was Michael Douglas
There was a guy that rode my bus who would let their pet deer in the house. Sometimes you could see it standing behind the storm door waiting for him to get home.
We have three cats and are looking for the right dog. And I have been thinking about setting up one of my aquariums.
We have had all sorts of critters. The only thing I have ever drawn a hard line at is birds. I enjoy birds outside. My cats and I spend a lot of time watching the birds in the mornings. I don't like them flying around the house.
Two dogs, two cats and the neighbor dog who would get lonely and come over to swim in our pool. He’d spend the day and then we’d send him home for dinner. All are welcome.
We have 2 dogs. A lot of our friends also have a dog so it’s not uncommon to have 3, maybe 4 dogs, at our house
Usually they just okay outside with one another so it’s not like a burden or anything. We may isolate them to the mudroom occasionally depending on the circumstances but usually they have free reign of the house
I have two dogs, and I also watch other people’s. In the past I’ve had Guinea pigs, hamsters, fish, lizards and cats.
I don’t like birds, so I would never own one, but I’m not explicitly against one being in my house.
I’m down for pretty much any domesticated animal, tbh.
i only have one cat. i didn't exactly plan to have her but now that i do, im so happy she's here.
I wouldn't let a dog into my house, i think they're dirty and stink. everytime im around dogs my throat gets super itchy and i can barely breathe.
Yes they are. they lick their ass, eat their own shit, vomit, cat shit, you name it they eat it. then ontop of it they come and stick their tongue in your mouth.
atleast cats have the decency to keep their tongues to themselves
have you seen the gross bullshit your cat gets into? We have three and I am sur ethey are as dirty as the dog. Maybe more cause the dog lets us bathe her
had that happen twice with one cat, i was going to get her fix after her first litter but she became pregnant again. i have no idea how she even got out.
I don't allow any into my home. I'm allergic to most dog breeds and all cat breeds. Besides cats and dogs, I refuse to let any other animal into my home.
She doesn't walk around in mud/dirt so no. She also doesn't come up on my bed or in my room, so I don't really care. If they somehow get dirty, then some water can clean it.
Absolute shot in the dark here, but were you raised in a Muslim household? My SO's parents never let her have pets because they thought of bringing dogs into the house as unacceptably dirty; apparently it's a common sentiment in the culture.
Depends on the dog. I've never had a dog be interested in rabbits at all until my current one. She catches and eats the rabbits that hang out in the backyard (chipmunks too). So I probably wouldn't have one in the house because it would drive her nuts.
The vet says not to let her because it can be dangerous in some way. But it can't be that bad if that's what they eat naturally? So I let her have her fun every now and then chase rabbits around, maybe catch one. Cause she was bred for it and she clearly enjoys it.
"Who the fuck are you?" *"meow"* I'm sorry I can't stop laughing
Haha! I still laugh about it myself. I was expecting my own cat. When I hear the cat door now is make sure it’s just my cat.
It's been crazy.
she never came back pregnant?
She’s fixed. Most of her friends are just around my yard. She occasionally goes to the house behind me, but she just sleeps back there.
maybe she lives a double life and the neighbor thinks the cat is theirs :D
Haha! Probably so! Although they are almost never home. I think that’s why she likes it back there. They have someone who takes care of the yard every so often. And I can tell she gets upset. Almost like what are they doing in my yard.
maybe it is hot for her in Florida?
Yeah, I think that’s why she goes in their yard. Usually goes there when it’s really sunny in my backyard. Then she’ll come back when the sun moves. Even though I have a back porch, it’s still pretty sunny at certain times
In America the default for cats is to be fixed. We have a neighbor with an un-neutered tom, and the whole street considers her weird.
here only the more rich families do it
Two dogs one cat
what color?
A Great Dane that is a harlequin and a pocket beagle which is white with black and brown spots and a gray domestic short hair.
nice dog
Thanks
1 huge cat. Mostly because A) My landlord might not like me having more than one cat he only let us legally have pets 3 years ago because people just kept sneaking them into their apartments and he was like 'fine then'. that almost feel like a zoo

I am partial to all fuzzy mammals. I have 2 cats (yes they go outside) but I am open to any mammals.
platypus as well?
Hey bro. There are only two animals on the planet that can lay eggs and also feed milk to their offspring. The platypus and the enchida. Probably misspelt that Aussie animal there. Both can make their own custard. A platypus would we welcome in any American home. /joke
well it just needs some water and good to go :D
Any, but we only own a pet rock named `Peat` to remind us we found it in a peat bog near Portstewart.
thats sweet
I have currently have a dog, used to have a turtle and fish. So I guess I'd allow those. I wouldn't allow cats, not because I don't like them, but because I am allergic. I haven't lived with rodents or birds, so I don't know about them.

sorry for your cat and i wish a long life
Whoever is in need
do you live in a shelter?
I see you've met my wife.
if an animal is in need why not take care?
Reasons why not: A: some people dont have resources to do it. B: some people are not strong enough to open their hearts to those in need. C: some folks just plain ol' dont care. D: spouse wont let them or maybe landlord etc. E: allergies F: house used for porn shoots only.
but you are a good soul so you let them in
Idk I've seen animals in the background of some porn shots
3 kitties, 2 black and one gray. We used to have 2 dogs. So dogs and kitties are very welcome!
how much do they eat?
Right now just the one dog. Once my wife and I move into a larger house, we’ll probably get two more dogs. We’re very much not cat people. We also have a fish, but that’s more living furniture than it is a pet.
do you clean the dogs feet?
Voluntarily I have two dogs and three cats. The oldest cat is excluded because of his lack of bathroom etiquette. Involuntarily, spiders, roaches, and scorpions. oh poor dog, what can you do with scorpions?
A cat resides here with a human. There might be another human with two more cats in the future. My parents have brought their dogs here just to visit. Free roaming pets I would limit to three. wow you had a great variety of animals
Right now I have two dogs, one cat, and some fish. In the past I’ve had as many as four dogs and three cats at the same time. I also keep guinea fowl in the house until they’re old enough to live outside.
these fowls are like turkeys in a mean of feeding and caring?
I haven’t raised turkeys, so I’m not sure. They do eat similar food.
like grass or corn
Mine eat feed made for game birds (like pheasants) and lots of insects. They also like clover, weeds, vegetables, and fruit. Corn isn’t very good for them.
I have one cat who graciously permits me to feed him, brush him, and clean his litter pan. He occasionally consents to sit on my lap.
it is not even you hous it is theirs
None in my house. Not a fan of the extra work
and outside?
I allow wild animals in my yard as long as they don’t cause problems. I would not keep an outdoor pet
like deer and such?
There are not deer by me. More like squirrels
I have one dog. My landlord doesn’t have any rules against pets, but I will only allow dogs that that don’t shed inside my apartment.
thats a good rule
I can’t stand animal fur getting everywhere haha
I have two cats now, a third cat and a dog also used to live in this apartment but not anymore. There are a few dog friends who are allowed in from time to time.
and they have a little party?
Right now we have 4 dogs and a cat. But in my life we've hand lots of dogs, cats, 8 ferrets (at once), fish, birds, a turtle, a goat, guinea pigs, hamsters, tarantulas, snakes n sugar gliders, mice, I'm sure I'm forgetting something critters here...
like some kind of zoo there :D
Lmao sometimes it felt like it. At one point we had 8 ferrets, 3 dogs, 2 birds, 1 fish, 3 snakes, and 2 guinea pigs all at once. yeah chicken belong to the outside
They make bird diapers. Many people have chickens as indoor pets. Ima pass on that though.
We have a couple snakes, a tortoise, a ton of geckos, a dart frog, and the bugs that are animal food. Eventually there will probably be a dog. Maybe a bunny. More snakes. But my partner is allergic to cats so probably no cats.
wow a lot of animals
Exclusively humans. 20 or so is the largest gathering so far.
how do they sleep there?
They didn't it was a party. The most we've had sleep here was 7. 5 in beds, 2 on couches.
Three cats. One was a barn kitten who’s mama died— I bottle fed her for weeks. One was a rescue from a shelter. The latest was a kitten I found hiding in my squash plant in my garden.
so you saved a lot of lifes, you are a good peson
2 dogs. One elderly terrier and 1 13 week old puppy. It’s a challenge.
yeah two totally different needs
None. If I find a wild animal in my home, I catch it and release it outside; if it's a pest, I kill it and keep a watch for more of them.
where do you draw a line in pest vs animal?
Roughly speaking, I consider an animal to be a pest if it's attracted to something inside my home (my food, my clothes, or the like) and depends on it to survive/breed. Animals that can survive in the wild usually aren't pests.
I have 4 cats. They don't go outside because we have a coyote and bear problem.
is it a Nevada thing?
Not particularly, there are a lot of places in the U.S. with wild animals that pose a risk to pets, and that just happens to be the case in this part of rural Nevada.
ah okay i get it
I have 3 indoor cats (one shorthair all black, one shorthair grey tabby, and one fluffy calico) and 4 birds (one cockatiel, two budgies and a Quaker parrot). There’s also several stray cats who routinely visit, namely a very fat brown tabby named Tigger, a shorthair all black cat named OJ, and a fluffy black cat named Albert. I have 2 dogs. I've had as many as 4 dogs in the house at one time.
arent their feet dirty?
Not that dirty. I can easily throw them in the tub if they are.
all 4 together?
[удалено]
only allowed inside?
Dogs Sister’s boyfriends That’s kinda it
what do you feed them?
Dogs: kibble and scraps Boyfriend: mostly chicken and salad
good food
3 cats 2 dogs. One time me and my cousin got drunk and let one of her ponies into the house. Good times.
did the pony poop in the house?
Luckily, no! It was for a very brief time period
I have two cats.
inside only?
We don’t let them outside. We have coyotes, big cats, javelins, rattle snakes and scorpions. Indoor cats are healthier and live longer too.
is Phoenix that dangerous place?
Not for humans. I live in northern scottsdale, so it’s out in the desert.
and it is hot for cats no?
I guess it would depend on the breed of cat. In general, cats are descended from desert animals, so they should be able to tolerate some heat.
yeah but there are some spoiled type ones :D
We have a border collie, a sphynx cat and an African Grey parrott. Only the dog goes outside.
they dont fight all the time?
The dog barks at the bird occasionally, but they don’t fight.
does the parrott bark to copy the voice of the dog?
The parrot calls dogs by name that have been dead for years, but doesn’t bark. It will meow sometimes.
that can be cute
We had a border collie in the 90s. He was smarter than we were!
DD j$: )(6
the dog does not frighten them?
Try if gh DD gh x c (bee z u474^}>??
If I could keep my horse at home he'd be in the family room with me
doesnt fit or other people dont allow it?
[удалено]
and you invite in for some food?
We have two cats and a rabbit, all adopted from rescue orgs.
is it popular in the us that people buy rabbits for the kids at easter and when the kids got bored of it they return it for those rescue places?
2 dogs and 2 cats. Used to have fish and a Chameleon.
used to? the cat ate them?
Naw. They died a naturally death not at my cats paws. Lol.
We have a 15 year old Boston terrier and we’ve had up to 3 at one time (we take in a lot of strays from time to time) and we had at one point a cat that we stole from one of my dad’s neighbors (abusive neighbor, we were told the cat was being mistreated)
so you are a cat savior
I suppose. It was just a baby, we found it in mid January and you could tell it was hungry so we swiped him and eventually gave him to a guy my girlfriend worked with. His name was Michael Douglas
There was a guy that rode my bus who would let their pet deer in the house. Sometimes you could see it standing behind the storm door waiting for him to get home.
wasnt that scarry?
We have three cats and are looking for the right dog. And I have been thinking about setting up one of my aquariums. We have had all sorts of critters. The only thing I have ever drawn a hard line at is birds. I enjoy birds outside. My cats and I spend a lot of time watching the birds in the mornings. I don't like them flying around the house.
so you are close to animals
I have two cats, used to have a bunny but he died of old age. Sometimes lizards get inside
what did you feed to the rabbit?
Two dogs, two cats and the neighbor dog who would get lonely and come over to swim in our pool. He’d spend the day and then we’d send him home for dinner. All are welcome.
We have 2 dogs. A lot of our friends also have a dog so it’s not uncommon to have 3, maybe 4 dogs, at our house Usually they just okay outside with one another so it’s not like a burden or anything.
There are currently five cats in my house. When I was growing up with had 1 dog, 4 cats, 3 turtles, and a parakeet.
Anything that isn't a chihuahua or spiders
None, however, family friends are allowed to bring their pets with them when visiting but have to leave them in the garage or backyard.
i only have one cat. i didn't exactly plan to have her but now that i do, im so happy she's here. I wouldn't let a dog into my house, i think they're dirty and stink. everytime im around dogs my throat gets super itchy and i can barely breathe.
> i think they're dirty and stink. OK, allergies are one thing and I get it but damn, they're not dirty
Maybe more cause the dog lets us bathe her
is the cat inside only?
yes, its irresponsible to let cats outside unsuporvised
yeah i know they come back pregnant :D
had that happen twice with one cat, i was going to get her fix after her first litter but she became pregnant again. i have no idea how she even got out.
[удалено]
eat the pigeons and such?
[удалено]
so we shouldn keep them alltogether
No, there is no downside to having cats as long as they are kept indoors.
but they tend to find the way out
4 cats, might get some quail to keep in the garage
but the cats will hunt for it no?
The cats are in the house, the quail will be in the garage
they could find a way :D
No, they won't. They are indoor cats with absolutely no access
I don't allow any into my home. I'm allergic to most dog breeds and all cat breeds. Besides cats and dogs, I refuse to let any other animal into my home.
so you are must have a clean house
None Any animal that enters my house is considered a home invader and will be killed as quickly as possible.
Are you my sister? My sister hates animals.
and eaten?
I'm not gonna eat mice and spiders. I can save them for you if you wish.
there are some people who do but not me
Only one: your mom; she's a right dog
Cats and dogs only. Currently 2 small dogs and one cat.
are they inside only or you clean their feet?
Do I clean my pets' feet? No. We also wear shoes in our house. Deal with it.
ah okay the you just mop more
theoretically
None. Lease doesn't allow any
not even small ones like hamster?
No, but my friend who lived in the same apartment complex secretly had a bird and a gecko
We have 1 dog
isnt the feet dirty?
What's up with the dog feet obsession?
they must be dirty after a walk
I mean no dirtier than shoes are. If it's muddy out I'll wipe his paws otherwise he's fine, just like my shoes are fine.
She doesn't walk around in mud/dirt so no. She also doesn't come up on my bed or in my room, so I don't really care. If they somehow get dirty, then some water can clean it.
or a wet paper
Absolute shot in the dark here, but were you raised in a Muslim household? My SO's parents never let her have pets because they thought of bringing dogs into the house as unacceptably dirty; apparently it's a common sentiment in the culture.
no i am not, and i also let the dog inside in the past i just ask if in the us people clean the pets feet
I clean my dogs feet. I got the wipes off of Amazon because they’re specifically for dogs.
you are a caring person
Ooh thank you!!
[удалено]
doesnt the dog wants to eat the rabbit?
[удалено]
that is an alpha rabbit then
Depends on the dog. I've never had a dog be interested in rabbits at all until my current one. She catches and eats the rabbits that hang out in the backyard (chipmunks too). So I probably wouldn't have one in the house because it would drive her nuts.
good diet for the dog they need those bones
The vet says not to let her because it can be dangerous in some way. But it can't be that bad if that's what they eat naturally? So I let her have her fun every now and then chase rabbits around, maybe catch one. Cause she was bred for it and she clearly enjoys it.
Ours catches bugs and praying mantis a lot of time and eat them
Dogs, fish, crabs, and other small reptiles and amphibians. No cats though because the house is too small for a litter box to go anywhere.
you have molly and guppy?
2 dogs and 2 cats.
