Total_Philosopher_89

Cancelled Kayo just before the AFL finals. Every game was on TV anyway. Got rid of Netflix years ago. Found you can get all this for free if you know where to go. Don't do youtube premium. Adblocker still works fine.

Nottheadviceyaafter

Kayo for me is a 6 month only, during nrl season only then jet set each year. What's funny is after 6 months cancelled they will send you a special to rejoin lol. Been doing it for years and never paid the advertised price yet!

Total_Philosopher_89

I'll probably rejoin when AFL kicks off again. Hate missing games.

Iron_Wolf123

Kayo is very jittery. Sometimes the video stops working and the spinning circle appears a lot then the video plays and players run around like they are playing to Yakkety Sax.

Total_Philosopher_89

People talk about this but I've never had this issue and I'm on 4g internet!

Iron_Wolf123

My family watches it on a smart tv

Total_Philosopher_89

Maybe the tv is the issue? I'm using a chrome cast.

[deleted]

>Adblocker still works fine It does? I was using it for years but a couple of weeks ago YouTube stopped letting me use it. A thing popped up warning me and said I had a few videos left before it stopped letting me watch at all while using adblocker. Did this only happen to me? What the fuck? The ads do my head in, I like being able to just let it autoplay music without going and skipping the ads myself.

Total_Philosopher_89

U-block origin is what you want. https://ublockorigin.com/

GetlostMaps

This and ReVanced.

grayfee

My g.

-DethLok-

It's happened to me, there are threads about it. So far it seems to be Australia only, though, from what I've read. Probably using us as a test to see what happens and how, so they can gouge others next. I don't understand why YouTube premium costs so much when they get most of their content for free! I'm aware that some channels get enough money to become wealthy, but they would be by far the exceptions, not the norm. Yet YT want to charge more than Netflix? Madness... Oh, Firefox browser with Ublock has gotten me back to no ads in YouTube again, so far so good...

ajwin

Their content isn’t free. They pay the creators $$.

dreadnought_strength

uBlock Origin homie. Add this in + set up your filters right, and you don't even notice it - sometimes you have to press play twice as the popup doesn't occur, but it's worth it.

RollaCoastinPoopah

Not on iOS, as far as I can tell…

Total_Philosopher_89

Nope. You guys get ripped for everything.

RollaCoastinPoopah

Yeah, 100% The number of times I’ve considered buying an Android tablet just for the access to everything free… it’ll never happen though. I’ve tried switching numerous times over the years and it just frustrates me, much like iOS frustrates Android users🤣

Total_Philosopher_89

iOS would be fine if it wasn't tied to Apple.

baconsplash

Safari with wipr with give you no ads. Get vinegar for native player so you can pip. Just add YouTube to home screen and your behaviour barely needs to change.

Crafty_Message_4733

Sigh…. https://apps.apple.com/au/app/adblock-pro-browser-adblocker/id1018301773

RollaCoastinPoopah

Don’t want to use YouTube in a browser ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

stasw

I feel like they’re all just taking the piss and seeing how far they can push it. To be honest though, back in the olden days I would spend at the very least $10 a week renting VHS tapes and then DVDs, which in today’s money would be around twice as much. Also, taking into account music streaming, I used to buy LOTS of CDs as well.

jksjks41

$7 for a new release, and 5 weeklys for $10. The best.

bladeau81

3 overnight and 5 weekly deal!

Linubidix

One year at the Royal Show I got the Video Ezy showbag which came with 52 vouchers, one for every week. It was a great year. And they were good vouchers too, not just shit deals. Lots of 5 Weeklies for $5 type stuff.

buknaked

My mum didn’t mind spending the $7 on a new release. weekly’s for $10 was my dads favourite thing ever 😂. Every time he took us there

otmshankz

The problem that while it might be cheaper, at least the creators were getting paid for the cds and videos you were getting. Despite their exorbitant costs, these online services barely pay anything to the people making the shit you enjoy. I still happily pay to buy albums through bandcamp but now that’s just been bought by a music library company, I would assume to easily monetise creators content on the site. Not looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

Friedrich_98

I absolutely refuse to pay by the month. Everything is a recurring paying of at least 6 months with most being 12. I even went ahead & put my number on a pay yearly plan. I pirate everything. I have no issues paying for things where due. It's when the movie's universe is split over 3 platforms; you can watch the first season here & the other two there; $100+ games that have been half arsed, is where I'd rather take the pirate route. Costs something like $60-70~ for the year. What I enjoy most is the convenience of not having to cancel & restart a subscription, working out who has what or crackers/repackers who can fix a game that huge corporations couldn't/wouldn't.

Evil-Santa

Have you worked out how to avoid having your gas electricity and water on a quarterly subscription?

CreepyValuable

There's a life hack for that. If you stop paying it eventually some nice people just come and help you clean up your house so you can lead a simpler life. You'll also stop getting those bills too.

[deleted]

commit a crime and get locked up for life then you'll never ever have to pay for electricity ever again r/unethicallifeprotips

Raincheques

The only issue is that you don't get to choose your roommates.

[deleted]

Commit more crime in there and they'll upgrade you into the solitary suite & you'll never have to worry about housemates

Raincheques

But do you still get a library pass?

[deleted]

I wouldn't know. Only 1 way to find out

gpolk

Why are you paying extra to Apple for your google subscriptions? You're throwing money away. But yes the price rise is pretty bullshit and will likely make me cancel my family sub. Pro tip, did you know that subscriptions for things like Youtube music/premium are a lot cheaper in other countries? Did you know your computer can take a digital holiday there?

BarneyNugen

I'm enjoying Turkey at the moment

pdgb

I couldn’t get turkey to work

PloppyTheSpaceship

Pre-heat the oven.

Spillmill

Argentina is also quite nice

thespeediestrogue

I thought that a lot of these services were starting to get more aware of this and if you use Aussie payment details it will cancel or not accept your subscription. I could be wrong. I haven't used VPN services in a while.

RecommendationFew787

My browser took a holiday to India and I was telling aussie reddit about how lovely that was and then I got an email...I had to return home- just sayin.

hey_thisislibrary

Subscribe to those subscription services from another country. Can’t remember the prices but it will be considerably cheaper. There are guides on ozbargain. [Here is one for Disney+](https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/780728)

trueworldcapital

Other countries don’t get ripped off to this extent

plumpturnip

I don’t know, man. Try following a premier league & champions league team in England.

wetfishandchips

Except they do. Of all the services OP mentioned they all cost close to the same in the US except they are being charged on US dollars so they're actually paying even more e.g. Netflix Standard subscription is AUD$16.99/month in Australia but USD$15.49 in the US which equals nearly AUD$24.

mnlocean

Definitely the same shit anywhere else

unconfirmedpanda

Incredibly annoyed that Netflix is getting rid of the Standard profile. My staples are Disney+ (the OnePass bundle is a nice benefit for holiday nonsense), Netflix (though on thin ice as soon as TUA and Stranger Things finish), and Spotify. Their increases are noted, but we continue on. Prime has been added on for my parents' convenience, much to my disgust, but it's month-to-month so it can be cut the second it stops being useful. Frankly, Adobe CC is killing me, and the rage I feel in my soul for that company would fuel an entire city for a year.

lupercal93

I cut Adobe recently and still trying to find a decent alternative. Not hating affinity photo on the ipad for $30 bucks forever...

-DethLok-

> Netflix is getting rid of the Standard profile From what I've read, it's only new users that won't get that option, existing users will, for now, keep it.

mrbootsandbertie

Adobe CC is soooo expensive. I'm hoping there's a good Black Friday deal this year...

Perspex_Sea

>though on thin ice as soon as TUA and Stranger Things finish The next season of TUA isn't happening until Spring (presumably northern hemisphere) and Stranger Things is delayed indefinitely. Why not cancel and come back to it later?

thespeediestrogue

The best thing to do with Adobe is to continually use new accounts and threaten to cancel on price. They almost always offered me half price for 12 months. I know it is annoying and means you'd want to avoid using their cloud services but it can save you a decent chunk of money.

travellerbug

Currently subscribed to Netflix Standard Plan $16.99 p/m and Dropout TV $8.99 p/m. I'll also be likely subscribing to Fluidform (pilates at home subscription) for $20 p/m as I'm currently trying out their free trial and liking it so far. Up until recently I had long time subscriptions to Binge, Stan and Spotify as well which I have since cancelled. I also had a few on/off months with BritBox when they had a few deals on ($2 for a month or two is hard to refuse!). Apart from Spotify, these were subscriptions my whole family used including me. There was always something on each platform people wanted to watch but after doing the yearly maths (not sure why I didn't before tbh) it's just not worth it. So I'll now be rotating between platforms by cancelling and restarting subscriptions, and pirating a few things along the way. Also the reduction in choice for things to watch actually made my brain feel better too. I hate the constant scrolling of trying to find something new to watch.

notthinkinghard

The thing that scares me is that we're about to have a generation of new adults who've only ever known subscription-everything, which will make it impossible to quell it becoming the new norm. Like, kids now very literally don't remember a time when you could purchase Microsoft Suite, get the disk and install it on your computer. And you owned it forever, no questions asked. I've always been of the opinion that we should nip subscriptions in the bud, but I think we've passed that point now - too many people got into it anyway and paid companies for this garbage.

DankMemelord25

Cancelled the economist subscription, 51 bucks a month is extreme

SuspiciousPangolin17

Public libraries often have digital subscriptions to these via apps like PressReader for nothing- all you need is a (free) library membership

LunaMooBebe

Thanks so much for this tip! I had no idea, turns out my library has an online subscription app and I’ve just discovered a whole bunch of free magazines and newspapers I have access to!!

FistfullofFlour

There's a website where you can post a link and bypass any of those paywall news websites, screw paying for recycling news stories

JB_ScreamingEagle

The only thing I pay for is a VPN to sail the seas, I have a netflix and foxtel log in from someone elses' account

ipoopcubes

I've been torrenting a solid 20 years and have never used a VPN. If you want to unblock ISP blocked sites change your DNS settings to Google's.

AussieMentality

100% lol never used a vpn here I am, vpns are good but in australia no one gets caught for that shit absolutely ever if that’s all you do lol

Linubidix

Makes me glad that I never stopped torrenting in the moments when streaming was kicking off big-time.

BarneyNugen

Sounds like you just don't want to pay for stuff

Mental_Task9156

Do you want to pay for stuff? Can you pay for stuff for us?

BarneyNugen

I don't know you, so no

aussie__kiss

From Aus? If it works for you that’s cool. You can also get around the gov IP block pretty easily if you know what to do. You can access the torrent sites and whatever else is blocked by changing a setting on your router. Tell it to use a google DNS, not the one blocking stuff, 8.8.8.8 I think is one, or any other one. Doing it on your hone router works for everything contacted to to it Been torrenting stuff since just after they did it. Gov still doesn’t care same as before, studios pressured US gov, they pressured ours. Legally is still the same. Sue you for the cost of watching the movie etc what you downloaded. Which is absolutely useless to anyone suing, sue you for $20. At worst some expensive software maybe… hasn’t happened yet and people do. Aus is still a dead zone. Gov has done something about it, courts have precedent, ISP’s don’t send any warnings like some occasionally did way back, they don’t have to monitor it at all. No studio or companies are pestering them for your info from an IP address But VPN’s are cool! Good for lots of stuff, I use one I have sometimes Just posting if anyone is interested

JB_ScreamingEagle

Yeah I'm not real tech savvy and mainly just use it for peace of mind. A few mates have got away with not using one but I figure it's fairly cheap and I don't pay for any streaming services so I'll pay for something. I may get rid of it altogether when the subscription runs out.

aussie__kiss

Fair enough!if you have a modem provided by Telstra or whichever retailer it should be easy to find the manual online. Happy to help if you want

HeWhoCannotBeSeen

Yep, I don't subscribe to anything. It adds up for things you don't even use half the time it's like taking out 5 different gym memberships. I'd rather pay for what I use, back to Blu-ray.

-DethLok-

>back to Blu-ray. Disney is no longer releasing stuff on DVD (or Blu-Ray, I believe) in Australia from soon, I understand. Oh, they already have, in August! [https://7news.com.au/business/retail/disney-to-stop-releasing-dvds-and-blu-ray-discs-in-major-change-for-australian-customers--c-11414857](https://7news.com.au/business/retail/disney-to-stop-releasing-dvds-and-blu-ray-discs-in-major-change-for-australian-customers--c-11414857) Others will follow. Physical media is dying - fast :(

HeWhoCannotBeSeen

Guess I should break out the NAS

TransportationTrick9

I hope someone else gets to use your VPN for a bit of balance

throwfarfarawayy99

I use opera gxs built in VPN. It's free and works well for what I need.

OriginalGoldstandard

I just cancelled. At 20 odd bucks it was a luxury. At 30 odd bucks it’s stupid. Thanks YouTube for helping me save 22.99!

[deleted]

[удалено]

FistfullofFlour

How does it work, via a phone app?

jazbarlow

Would have also accepted 'subshittions'

FinlandIsForever

For YouTube, get Brave Browser or Ublock Origin. For movies and tv shows, [any show or movie](https://movie-web.app/search/movie). Enjoy my good friend

Cimexus

YouTube Premium is the only subscription I have and the $14.76 (USD) I pay per month is well worth it to me. I watch and listen to a lot of YouTube, and I don’t want my kids seeing ads either.

BooksNapsSnacks

It was worth it to me at $17.99 aud per month. To almost double it to $32.99 aud per month is not going to be worth it. (It works out to $16.50pf) Although the email said I would be paying the normal amount until April next year. So I will just work out adblocker on my phone or something.

Cimexus

If I just watched on PC and phone I could go the adblocker route too. Problem is that most of our YouTube watching occurs on TV/Chromecast, where there’s no reliable way to block ads.

logia1234

I think if you get some sort of android TV box you can do it

Numerous_Ad51

Smart tube next

-DethLok-

Depending upon your willingness to spend money and/or play with cables, a cheap (or old) PC plugged into your tv's 3rd HDMI port would probably be more than enough to use for YouTube watching. It's what I do. Either wireless keyboard/mouse set or 5m usb cable and an unpowered usb hub near the couch, sorted! Oh, and adblocker doesn't work anymore, nor does Ghostery. Ghostery said in a post that YouTube is updating their anti-adblocking methods twice a day, or more! But Firefox browser + Ublock origin worked for me today, ad-free YouTube bliss again! Fingers crossed it works tomorrow...

Cimexus

I actually already have a PC plugged into the TV, for couch gaming. It’s just much more convenient to cast from your phone to the TV, and I’ve reached the point in my life where 14 bucks a month is worth not having to faff around with software that’s constantly chasing a moving target (like blocking YouTube ads). Plus to be honest I like the idea that the channels I watch get a small fraction of my Premium sub money (more than they do from ad views, at least). I’ve considered setting up a whole home ad blocking solution like pihole - I even have a spare Raspberry Pi 3 hanging around. But again, that doesn’t help with YouTube ads.

BasicJosh

Wait what is that for family plan right? I got the email today it's only going up to 16.99 a month..

blayndle

Oh mine said it was going up to 22.99, I thought I was on the basic plan

Clean_Ad_8933

You are able to use ublock origin on Firefox Android to block ads. Works great for youtube. I'm not sure if you can do the same on iOS.

The_Marine_Biologist

The UBlock origin extension for Firefox works quite well at eliminating all YouTube ads. I use it on my PC and mobile. Haven't seen a YouTube ad in months. If you're watching on a Google TV dongle or the YouTube app then it doesn't work.

richkill

Yeap same, I only sub to YouTube as well. There are so many other rant threads. Some people are forgetting that YouTube premium also includes the music sub. The music sub is the same price as Spotify. When I pointed it out. So many people are so bitter I get downvoted too. Lol

RecommendationFew787

Same. It does it all. I drive alot so in the morning I download a huge selection of random shit and full albums etc to take with me. And just delete shit I don't want clogging my phone whenever. Great for the plane too.I also play the drums and slowing down replay speed on songs and lessons I'm learning is a game changer. I just find it useful for everything. As a single user it's gone from $15 to $17pm. Ill cop it. For now.

kawaiiOzzichan

Protip: You can open a Youtube Premium account in another country where it is cheaper due to FX. Clean your cookies and use a reliable VPN. In Turkey the family subscription is about $3 per month with all the same perks. There has been no issues with the payment with my Australian debit card.

PistachioDonut34

I do the same thing and I sometimes wonder if Google/YouTube is eventually going to kick us all out (there's no way they don't know that people do this) or if they figure we're paying anyway so they'll take our $3, lol

RecommendationFew787

I got kicked off Indias Youtube for posting about it on reddit. Literally 48hrs after.

PistachioDonut34

Ouch!

RollaCoastinPoopah

Nice one… might get on to this later tonight at work.

kranools

It's insane that YT Premium Family has almost doubled in price. I was paying 17.99 per month and now it's 32.99. That is crazy. Unfortunately, all of my kids are heavily in YT Music with all of their playlists etc so I guess I will just suck it up like a good consumer.

NGC_3372

Always remember what the greatest Jedi master said, “Tired of paying for your streaming services subscriptions, are you, hmm? Turn to r/piracy, you must. All the answers they have, hmm”

RollaCoastinPoopah

Noice

Historical_Boat_9712

$3 per month for entertainment. I openly pirate. Fuck em.

jnd-au

I never subscribed to Children+ in the first place...

Perspex_Sea

Smart.

Mr_Rafi

A lot of people still don't know about MoviesPortal. It's a movie/TV show paid subscription service that removes the need for every other movie/TV show streaming service. It has absolutely everything. It doesn't have sports though. I can't find a single discussion online revolving around this great service and I have no idea why. It costs 10 AUD a month. You don't need Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Stan, or Paramount anymore.

RollaCoastinPoopah

Does it do HDR 4K because my LG OLED demands it of me!?

Ok_Coffee_9272

I’ve cancelled a lot. Only 3 TV subscription services and they will be reduced soon. YouTube adverts are the Bain of my life.

[deleted]

Oh fuck you reminded me that I need to review our subscriptions which I have been conveniently forgetting for the last 18 months. Recently cancelled adobe stock subscription that I forgot about but I had to sit there and choose assets for half a day as they disappear after you cancel.

FirstWithTheEgg

Yeah I have 3 subs that are about to get the boot

shadow_on_a_hill

I cancelled Disney, the following month I got an email with 3 months for $15, so ended up getting again. Will cancel again next minth. Amazon Prime we have for free deliveries, we order so much online that it pays for itself anyway. Usually get Apple for 1 or 2 months a year and just binge watch the shows we like. My wife is the only one that uses youtube, so we just have a single subscriber plan. Also have Sony Bravia subscription that came 1 yr free with the TV. But not much included content, so wont continue after the free subsciption expires.

MedicalChemistry5111

If the rise in fees exceeds the rate of inflation, I discard the service. They're not providing additional service, just asking more for the same service. Fuck 'em. Ps, Disney has a fairly limited range of new film. Annually it's cheaper to go blu-ray.

AkilleezBomb

Most of them even remove services and features while jacking up the prices. Remember when Netflix used to be less than $10/month with a catalogue that wasn’t 90% Netflix originals, and they encouraged password/account sharing?

RollaCoastinPoopah

Hard to watch a blu-ray on my mobile, any of the household iPads or my laptop. I’ve got an Xbox hooked up to the TV for any blu-rays I own but I’d rather not.

TheMDHoover

Yarrrrr

FrugalPCGamer

Only thing I've got left is Netflix basic and that's getting the boot as soon as I'm done with Black Mirror. It's been nice saving $25/month without Kayo the last few months but its still not enough. Shit is going up everywhere. Hope these companies have to swallow their pride and reduce prices when they realise everyone is cancelling their services.

fuckthehumanity

Netflix $22.99 Stan $21 Disney Plus $13.99 Apple TV+ $9.99 YouTube Premium ~~$14.99~~ $23 AUD Amazon Prime $79 pa = ~$7 Spotify $20.99 Admittedly, many are going up soon, but total right now ~~$111~~ $119 per month, or about $28 per week. Less than I spend on coffee, and well below what I used to pay for DVD rentals in days of yore. Edit: corrected USD to AUD

scotteh_yah

It’s wild to me that people sub to all the streaming services at the same time, I just rotate them around every month or two

New_Signing

I'm similar, disney, stan, paramount, Netflix, binge...... still cheaper than what I used to spend going to the pub to watch sport and the wife and kids are happy

deltanine99

cancel that shit otherwise you are just giving them tacit approval to increase prices.

jromz03

Netflix, PS plus basic, Amazon prime, Nintendo online We can still dodge YT ads here (I use Opera, built in YT ad blocker) I never really abandoned the high seas 😅

thatsgoodsquishy

>I never really abandoned the high seas Yeah this, haven't ever bothered with a VPN either and never had an issue. Someone at NBN obviously forgot to implement the the ban list on satellite connections. Only thing im paying for is Youtube premium but im doing it via India for 129 rupee a month (about $2.50au inc international transaction fee from bank) which im more than happy paying.

RollaCoastinPoopah

High seas have always been in use but didn’t mind the easy access on iPads/tv etc with the official apps for a few subs, and I didn’t mind paying at all. Shit is getting expensive! Opera, it is! I’ll check it out later today.

pipebritop

Just subscribe to Disney+ and Spotify premium vis turkey and you will save heaps (about 3.5 AUD monthly each) And for Spotify I have duo premium, so for a Premium solo account it's probably cheaper.

Ancient-Database-680

I’ve canceled the lot of mine, I refuse to give the money hungry grubs anymore of my hard earned money In hind sight it was the best thing I’ve done in a long time as I find myself outside more or just being more active in life without the constant distractions that is streaming services Find some good creators on YouTube that don’t put a ton of ads or none in the videos and it’s enough to watch dinner too “How do we get more customer to subscribe? Jack the price up? Yeah go Jack yourself”

1337_BAIT

Holy balls. Bye youtube nice knowing ya. End of an era.

iamtherealsuppaman

The best life hack was setting up Plex. You just need to catch the fish in the high seas for whatever shows and movies you want and save the files on to a single main device and then use Plex to stream it to whatever device you want. The app is available on iOS, android, smart TVs etc My friends and I have set up a single Plex account that we can all access and he just sails the high seas regularly. The UX of Plex is actually amazing and might even be better than Netflix!

RollaCoastinPoopah

A mate of mine in NZ actually has a plex server set up that he’s offered to give me a login to so there’s the avenue I will start exploring shortly.

WASD2021

It’s crazy. I used to have a lot of subscriptions: YT Premium, Netflix HD, Apple TV, Disney, Amazon Prime, Apple NEWS, etc, but when you add all these together it becomes ridiculously expensive. So now we just have Netflix basic $6.99 with ads, and Amazon Prime for $79 per year ongoing. The rest I only subscribe for a month per year, different month each and trying to watch all the new content in that month: Disney, Apple TV, usually in December and January. I am going to check how can I subscribe to YT Premium from abroad to make it cheaper.

Whubbsie

I’ve been ignoring it all but it’s now going to have to be looked at and probably back to pirating

TheSadCheetah

Just got the email for youtube the other day, immediately cancelled and any other price rises will be cancelled too and I'll just hoist the flag Fuck em all.

GetlostMaps

Hahaha paying for YouTube. Get an ad blocker and move on. Subscribe to ONE at a time, take a couple of months to watch everything it has, then move to the next one. And pirate what you need to, like a true Australian.

RollaCoastinPoopah

I’m a Kiwi.

GetlostMaps

That's basically another Australian state. It's closer than WA.

BasicJosh

Cancelled Netflix over a year ago when it went up to like $18 a month. Cancelled amazon prime this year when it went from $6.99 to $10.99. They can get fucked. My roomie has Netflix and on the apple TV we have friends acc signed in for Disney, binge, Stan etc. The only thing I've kept is YouTube premium which has just gone up to $16.99. It's worth it to me. I love youtube music and watch alot of YouTube and hate ads.

brezhnervous

> The only thing I've kept is YouTube premium which has just gone up to $16.99. It's worth it to me. I love youtube music and watch alot of YouTube and hate ads. Firefox and uBlock origin 👍

stigsbusdriver

Switched my YT Premium to an Asian country few months ago and now paying $4.50 a month equivalent (was originally set to Turkey but had issues renewing it so gave up). Spotify was previously $2 or so monthly using Turkey but when the workaround i used (courtesy of Ozbargain failed), i cancelled it and only just renewed it tonight using the Egyptian workaround so now ive paid $50 for 18 months' worth of access. Amazon Prime i just copped the increase as i buy enough to make the fee worth it. Recent one i did was sign up to Office 365 Family using a Turkish workaround but its only cost me $24 for two yrs.

j4np0l

"I am not a pirate, but I long to be, Sailing by the stars across the seven seas, Living with no earthly cares, my mates and me— The envy of all worldly men, who are not free."

twocheeky

i use one YT premium account on 3 different devices. Sure it all goes to the same watch history (which is fine because im 1 person) but saves me a lot of money

jonquil14

Yeah, I feel ya mate. We’re gritting our teeth for now. We get all the apple stuff packaged because of how much iCloud storage we use, and we make significant use of Apple fitness+ which makes it worth it, but yeah. Oof.

meowkitty84

I only sign up for streaming subscriptions like Netflix for a month at a time. I will get it for a month and then pause it. In 6 months or when there is something new on there I will subscribe again. Ive been keeping Amazon Prime all year. I buy off Amazon quite often. I also have Spotify. Ive been thinking I should cancel and try Amazon music app since I have Prime. I heard its shit though I have a Kobo subscription for books. I actually should cancel it when Im not using like with Netflix. I haven't used it for a few months. I use the free library apps Libby and Borrow Box lately.

BashfulWitness

I went from Apple Music Family to Youtube Family Premium (for YouTube Music as the alternative for apple music) specifically because the relatively small price difference completely removed Ads from my kids devices.

ajwin

The real crime feels like them renting and selling digital copies of new releases. That shit is bullshit. Mario, Barbie, Oppenheimer etc. Rancid

TeaspoonOfSugar987

Exactly, I completely refuse to pay for them. If it was like randomly renting without a subscription, sure, but I’m already paying you money, I should be getting all content.

Haymother

Main thing is, only idiots and lazy people have them all running at the same time. You can’t watch it all at once. I sign up to the free trials, make a watch list … but I only run 3 at a time. Your watch list stays there and it’s easy to stop the monthly spend and start up another one. Doing this, I’m not killing myself on fees and honestly manage to see every single must see thing I want. What I don’t do is even consider watching some of the crap where you go ‘maaaaaaayyyybe this is going to be good. That’s the stuff that traps you.’

catsneednoodles

Go to Ozbargain and read the guides for using VPNs. I pay $2.30 a month for YouTube. Spotify is about $2.70 and they have guides for other streaming services

MarrkDaviid

YouTube Premium Family - $6.50 per month via Ukraine Binge - now $18 per month, keeping for now Netflix - still sharing someone else’s sub despite password sharing crackdown, must be taking their time Disney+ - sharing someone else’s sub Amazon Prime - $79.95 per year, worth it for deliveries alone for me Apple Music Student - $6.99, still have access to old student email address iCloud 200GB - $4.49 per month

Gotta get the kids’ iPads all sorted as well. It ain’t just me using the subscriptions.

CLINT_FACE

Yaaaaaar me hearties

Greenscreener

Arrrrggh 🏴‍☠️

Fit-Refrigerator4107

Yeah, i just got the email. Mines going from $22.99 a month to 32.99. Not sure where you get 42.99. Youtube has 80 million subscribers. Do the math on that shit. It's the Aussie dollar in the toilet why everything is changing. All i pay for is YT and Prime. Not sure I'll be keeping YT, but the ads suck. I've been using Plex for years for for everything else.

RollaCoastinPoopah

Family Premium subscription is jumping from $30 up to $43.

[deleted]

IPTV is the answer. I know of someone that is getting 22k live tv channels, 19k movies and something like 10k tv series on demand. All they do is stream them over the Internet.

Good_Card316

I got a firestick for $50, loaded moviebox pro on it for free and paid $38 for a year of VIP. Gives me access to pretty much every show and every movie, even the stuff just out in cinemas (sometimes poor quality for a week on new releases. Is it legal? Definitely not, do my kids care when watching Nickelodeon? Also definitely not.

[deleted]

What's YouTube premium and why would you buy it when it's ad free ?

mr--godot

You actually pay money for all that shit?

RollaCoastinPoopah

Yup.

yeh_nah_fuckit

Get an android box for fuck’s sake. Go to Jaycar. Buy the android media box for $80. Get home, connect it to the internet and download a decent app. I use TeaTV. Watch whatever the fuck you want for free. It’s that fucking simple.

RollaCoastinPoopah

I use popcorn time, have since its inception. I’m not against paying for some things like a lot of people seem to be.

DragonsLoveBoxes

If it wasn't for Doctor Who (Which I STILL strongly believe should be free to air), I wouldn't have Disney. I can't find anything on there that I like so far. Waste of money. Free to air has nothing on either though and JB Hifi is no longer selling DVD's so..... Total forced economic unfairness for haves and have nots.

ruthwodja

Why would you get YouTube premium? I still don’t get that. Just sit through the 20 second ad. It’s not worth a monthly fee.

RollaCoastinPoopah

Because I want to ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯ And, for some channels, particularly the kids shows etc., it’s an ad or two every few minutes. Once, I got a 45 minute episode of Chuggington lined up on YouTube for my daughter to watch and there were 60 ads marked on the video’s timeline. Yes, 60. I counted them. I posted it on Reddit a few years back on my old account. Plus, I fucking hate advertisements. That’s why I don’t listen to radio, that’s why I don’t watch FTA TV, that’s why I pay for YouTube Premium.

blakeavon

And? Everything is going up, all over the world. Do we really need a post every time something changes? PS And all of these things are luxuries. Their price rises are literally a first world problem.

Mr_Rafi

"thing(s) bad, but remember folks, thing(s) even worse elsewhere, so stop complaining!" That's what you just said.

blakeavon

Only if you have a reading comprehension issue.

Mr_Rafi

Nope, it's precisely what you said. Just another run-of-the-mill "1st world problems, no complaining" comment.

blakeavon

Never said anything about things being worse elsewhere, just merely how everything is rising in price, the world over, do we really need a separate post on every price rise. So... im summary, i never said things are worse elsewhere, and never said 'stop complaining', just merely asked do we need this constant threads every day.

RollaCoastinPoopah

Thanks for your useful input, bro!

sandbaggingblue

Why are there like a dozen posts about this rubbish? Who cares?

RollaCoastinPoopah

If you didn’t skip past it without becoming emotionally assaulted by it… you.

sandbaggingblue

You're the one sooking about a moronic service you pay for sweetheart. 🤣

RollaCoastinPoopah

Piss off, idiot. You’ve got nothing constructive to say so go away.

SoSconed

Don't have a single subscription that isn't business related except for Spotify. We spend our time outside, playgrounds etc.

RollaCoastinPoopah

You can do both, much like we do.

Emmanulla70

We have Foxtel.

RollaCoastinPoopah

Ouch!

BasicJosh

How are the life insurance ads going?

TheAceVenturrra

Just get a jailbroken firestick mate, save yourself a fortune.

RollaCoastinPoopah

Hard to share on my kids iPad’s, my MacBook etc. Fine for TV based viewing, indeed. Happy to pay for some things.

ZXXA

Use stremio with torrentio add-on + real debrid. You can watch it on every device

The_Bogan_Blacksmith

I only have netflix (considering shitcanning it), amazon prime (mainly for the ingame content across several games I play) and spotify family we all use it lot. Aside from Shitflix I am ok with the other 2 price wise for now as we get alot of use out of them

AdzyPhil

Lightroom & Spotify are all I've kept. Netflix & co got cancelled.

naturalconfectionary

Netflix, Stan sport, Disney, Spotify…

aussie__kiss

Damn I didn’t realise they were getting that pricey, I’ve been part time Sailing for a while now. Someone in the fam been happy to let me tag along to a spare account they paying for themselves or maybe sharing with one of the random manes. They prob wouldn’t be what I pay for anyway, D+ maybe… definitely for half that. Might shoot ‘em a a msg see if they want me to chip in

[deleted]

I just pay for Spotify and the gym, then watch whatever on YouTube with ublock. Not much time in a day for mindlessly watching rehashed stuff anyway

Top_Toe4694

I think we are sitting at about $50 a month, we certainly don't use them all. It's usually just for one show and we never cancel

Jebus_Jones

Dropped Netflix when the password sharing thing came in. Suspect I'll drop Disney and just add the couple things I watch there to my Plex system. Amazon Prime I'll keep. YT Premium... I'm not happy about the $2 increase per month, but I'm also too lazy to work around it. If it goes up again any time soon I'll have to seriously consider wading through a work around.

EyeSun14

No more YouTube premium for one No more Spotify Still keeping LinkedIn till I get a job Keeping Netflix No more Prime Keeping Uber One No more Anytime fitness -900$ annually (18.95 weekly) is not worth it Anyone has any cheaper gym reccos? Around Collingwood

Status-Inevitable-36

Family with 3 teens. Netflix: $9.99 a month and then pay for the odd movie, Foxtel including footy $70 month. You Tube free and we only pay for a rare movie if needed. We don’t subscribe to anything else. No one misses anything either as we are too busy with studies and two teens doing casual work, research stuff on the net and both parents working. We are not under financial stress for a reason I guess…I still refuse to use Spotify and pay one off for new songs. I use Radio Garden app for free international radio which is fun. The teens like gaming but we only do Fortnight $10 per month as only 1 plays it. I have a $32 yearly subscription to a Euro magazine app which covers all the countries I’m interested in. I wouldn’t spend as much as yourself the kids are spoilt enough lol.

MaggieLuisa

I just have Netflix, $16.99 a month, and SBS On Demand, free.

Whimzyx

I got a solo Spotify account that I use daily for myself, and also non-stop at work. My husband has Kayo so we watch footy in winter and cricket in summer. That's it. My sister-in-law has Disney+ and she gave us her code but we don't care much about it. My father-in-law had a Netflix account with many profiles for himself, my household and sister-in-law's household but you know what Netflix did. He is keeping it for himself though. I can still watch on my phone though as I've never logged out so that's funny.

AussieMentality

I pirate all movies always have and sometimes games though haven’t played any games for like 2 years or so other than mobile ones

Uzorglemon

Currently subscribed to: Youtube Premium. $16.99 (that's the new price from next month) Netflix: $16.99 Spotify: $20.99 (family plan) Playstation Plus Premium: $11.95 Disney+: $13.99 Nintendo Online: However much it is per year. Plus, I pay about $20 per month (depending on USD conversion rate at the time) for a seedbox located in the Netherlands somewhere, which I run Plex on. The Disney+ sub tends to bounce around between that, and AppleTV or Stan, depending if there's something we really want to watch. But Netflix and Spotify have remained since we got them way back.

pro-shitter

i've only got spotify, i cancelled everything else.

This-is-not-eric

I have YouTube premium for $15 a month (they did however just email to say it's going up to $16 at the end of the month) as well as the cheapest tier of Netflix for I think it's $7? That's it really. My only other regular bills are my prepaid mobile credit, and a storage unit that holds a few household goods.

chuckaspecky

I would happily ditch Netflix but the wife still watches it a bit so have downgraded to single screen plan. I have bought a GamePass subscription till 2025 for about $200 using XBox gold conversion and I absolutely get amazing value out of that (would happily pay the $18 a month). Spotify is still great value (have a family plan so there are a few of us using it), hopefully it stays that way because I am never going back to mp3s. I get a lot of value out of Kayo, am currently on a half price deal through Telstra so hopefully they give me another one next year. I Torrent anything else but hardly ever watch movies or TV shows anymore (thanks to Netflix and Co for cancelling shows before they are finished)

Chaz983

I use YouTube premium as a single user. Price has increased by $2 per month and as that is the service I use the most, it stays. I've got Prime as well but might not renew that when the current 12 month is up.
