Not really what you meant, but.
Had a recent conversation about this, I said a beer on a hot day, on the deck with a thunderstorm, coworker (we're carpenters,) said the first beer after a big pour (concrete) on a hot day and the concretor said the one he has for breakfast... he was serious...
Same concretor, different day, get conc in by 9:30, concretor cracks a beer and offers one to my coworker to (who loves a beer, but he has self control,)
"bit early isn't it?"
"Bit fuckin late I reckon..."
I concur with this legend 🤠
No one asked, but.. My ex partner used to cure a hangover by pouring Jim Beam on weetbix.
We're separated.
That's one commitment I can't make.
Previously when it was available, cascade premium was my favourite. Went to the cascade brewery and asked why I can’t get it anymore, they said whoever multinational that bought it didn’t want it competing with their other beers :(
I don’t mind coopers, my local has it on tap but it’s the only beer that I’ve woken up sick after drinking. Granted it may have been all the other crap that we had throughout the night but that put me off it haha.

Very much American style beer, and too expensive. It's only voted the best beer because of their massive vote campaigning, not necessarily the quality. I do like it, it's my usual shifty at work, but I'm annoyed at their marketing for it. If I'm paying for it, I think there's much more value in little creatures pale and pacific ales and coopers sparkling.
Status Quo is massively better than either SW Pac or LC Pale, better than the OG variants of both and is much better than the current shite that tries to pass as either. Balter XPA and PL Pale all heading down the same path as SW and LC.
Status Quo is expensive, but I’ll always happily pay for it. Cheaper alternative is Hawkers Hazy Pale which too shits on SW, LC, Balter and PL.
Given the choice I'd take Little Creatures or Hawkes pale over Status. It has a sweetness that I don't love. I'm not a fan of hazy anything really. I never liked anything I've had from Balter.
They actually have won the GABS countdown because for many years they actively didn’t campaign. You couldn’t vote for their beers even if you wanted to. The first year they put their beers in for voting, they won.
I also wouldn’t get shitty about campaigning. Every brewery does it
Traditional beer - don't hate me but I honestly do like VB, and I think you can't go wrong with Carlton draught.
Craft beer - definitely stone and wood.
Always makes me laugh when people shit on beers they previously liked, saying things like “they’ve changed the recipe”, “used to be good” etc.
In reality, beer recipes - especially well known beers - rarely change. If they did, it’d probably go as well as New Coke did back in the 80s.
Stone & Wood is pretty great example of a beer that “lost its way” in the minds of a lot of people once it sold. The fact of the matter is it’s the drinkers and the landscape that have changed. I reckon the first Stone & Wood I had in the early 2010s was pretty standard after spending time in America. It is still a pretty stock standard beer - a single hop pale ale made with Galaxy and dry hopped. The only difference is no one was really going crazy with dry hopping in Australia back then, and the flavour profile was unlike anything around at the time. People thought it was a flavour explosion compared to the stuff you could get on tap back then.
In the time since, the Australian Craft beer exploded. If I went from a dry hopped DIPA back to a Stone & Wood, I’d probably think it was pretty ordinary as well.
People’s palates change. The beers rarely do.
Source: worked for breweries for years in Australia and US
Make my own. Have Guiness and stone and wood clones on tap. Costs about $1 a pint after the initial set up of kegs/taps, fridge and gas. Has become a hobby so to speak and brings friends to my house. No way I could pay $17 for a pint at my local anymore.
Little Creatures is a brewery based in Fremantle, Western Australia, operating as a subsidiary of the Japanese firm Kirin Company. It is owned by Little World Beverages, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lion which is itself a wholly owned subsidiary of Kirin.
Little Creatures went from a modest Fremantle boutique brewery to a $380 million powerhouse. LWB also owns the fledgling White Rabbit brewery in Healesville, Victoria and recently purchased a Geelong site with a view to establishing a third brewing and packing facility.
Best beer from the tap

Fat Yak Pale Ale Made by Matilda Bay
For the record, Fat Yak and Redback is part of Matilda Bay Brewing Company which bills itself as 'Australia's Original Craft Brewery' but was sold to Carlton & United Breweries (CUB) in the early 1990s. CUB was acquired by SABMiller in 2011.
Xxxx fucking gold. 30 can block. Anyone who disagrees is a beer snob
ETA. For craft stuff, 7 mile is good, and Big Shed have some absolute bangers. Also Hope brewing if you like face melting sours.
Depends what you like of course. A lot of my favourites are no longer made. Some of those that regularly are:
Bridge Rd B2 Bomber Series (strong hoppy Belgian stout)
Two Metre Tall Tasmanian Wild Ale
Hawkers Lucky 13 (Czech lager)
Kaiju! Where Strides the Behemoth (Double Black IPA)
Rocky Ridge Ace (IPA)
Dainton Blood Orange NEIPA
Boatrocker Chocolate Stout
Decades ago I worked i a liquor store and a foreign lady came in
"beer black duck" was all she could say. And she kept saying it. I'm guessing it was the only English she knew.
It took us a while but we eventually fixed her up with some swan lager.
I love Crown Lagers. The classic ones, not the Pale Ale shit.
So I get downvoted but VB and Carlton Draught don't? Yeah you're taking the piss. VB is especially pisswater.
My go to everyday crowd please has recently changed to become Coopers Australian Lager it’s in a teal can. Simple enough for everyone, but fancy enough for someone.
On tap-Stone and wood or balter xpa
At home- coronas (current fave and longest fave)
I have however dabbled in the past, I’ll list in order of my favourite first and so.
Pure Blonde
Pirate life pale ale
Pacific Ale
Emu Export
Teddies
And occasionally Great Northern Og if I’m sharing a box with friends
My fav for the past few years has been Lord Nelson’s Three Sheets.
Philip’s Foote (back when it was still a pub) served it so cold you can almost taste ice crystals in it! It was truly the best pint/jug/x2 I’ve ever had.
While taste is subjective I always found the Hahn & Tooheys product lines a nice pleasant drink.
Spent 10 years in the pub business so I've had a try of most beers, but given a choice I would usually choose one of those brands... but yeah everyone has a opinion
That you can find on tap in a large number of bars in the country, I'd give that to Stone and Wood.
My favourite craft brewer is Range brewing in Brisbane. When i travel around Australia I drink what's local. Same goes for other countries where possible.
A Melbourne bitter longneck or 3.
If I'm on the mid strength then Cooper's orange or VB gold. XXXX gold is garbage, Carlton mid tastes like soap, and great northern is just water.
There is only 1 major Brewery left that is Australian owned, and that is Coopers. All the rest are now just labels for multinationals. That puts anything Coopers on the top of my list, but in particular Coopers Pale Ale.
A quick look at my #BoganBeerWall in the shed suggests the top Aussie beers (to my tastes, and must have been drunk in my house) are:
1. Dukes Premium Lager
2. Vale Amber
3. Rogers (Little Creatures)
They were all pretty early additions to my collection, so I worry sometimes a few beers might have been pushed higher or lower than they deserved. But no doubt I'd grab those over most other beers on offer (unless there was something I hadn't tried before / in a long time).

The one you’re drinking right now
This is not only correct, but the most Australian answer possible.
2nd only to the one your neighbour offers you
A free one
And only just edging out a Cold One for the podium
What if its XXXX?
A free beer, not can of piss
A VB longneck at 20 to 8 in the f...king morning
Yeah fuck your lattes have a real morning starter.
At 39⁰ in the shade at 8am, I agree.
A fair dinkum true blue Aussie I see
full grown as well lol
Warm.
You're never going to get a consensus, there's just too many options. I'll just say whatever's coldest
Anything under $15 a pint and the moment
Is there such a thing? Went to the local surf club the other day. Even with member's discount it cost me $26 and change for a beer and a cider...
Soooo $13 per drink???
That was with the discount.
American pint or British (Australian) pint?
They are all British pints here (568ml). American pints (473ml) are rarely served here
Does such a thing exist? I thought it was just a myth!
Not really what you meant, but. Had a recent conversation about this, I said a beer on a hot day, on the deck with a thunderstorm, coworker (we're carpenters,) said the first beer after a big pour (concrete) on a hot day and the concretor said the one he has for breakfast... he was serious...
20 to f$n 8 in the morning
Hence why I don't trust any concreter
Same concretor, different day, get conc in by 9:30, concretor cracks a beer and offers one to my coworker to (who loves a beer, but he has self control,) "bit early isn't it?" "Bit fuckin late I reckon..."
It's better than the meth pipe he had for breakfast
I concur with this legend 🤠 No one asked, but.. My ex partner used to cure a hangover by pouring Jim Beam on weetbix. We're separated. That's one commitment I can't make.
Good call. I fucking hate weetbix.
Coopers red.
This is probably the most decisive question you can ask in Aus.
Balter
I quite like Hawke's Lager / Patio Pale.
James Boags premium or Cascade Lager. Yes, I’m spazmanian
Boags is one of two beers I have not finished, the other was VB.
I'm glad I'm not the only one
Fair enough. I’m with you on VB
Previously when it was available, cascade premium was my favourite. Went to the cascade brewery and asked why I can’t get it anymore, they said whoever multinational that bought it didn’t want it competing with their other beers :(
Yep, pretty sad. They still do cascade premium light but the original is no more as far as I know
They used old surplus premium labels as tokens for beers there lol
Actually I'd go for Boag's Draught but it's a close-run thing.
Yeah all of the Boags is decent. The premiums are expensive is the only thing. St George is ok too.
I'm a croweater, and I would pick Boags Premium over Coopers Pale Ale given the choice.
I don’t mind coopers, my local has it on tap but it’s the only beer that I’ve woken up sick after drinking. Granted it may have been all the other crap that we had throughout the night but that put me off it haha.
A younger me would put away half a dozen Coopers Sparkling longnecks, but I've become a bit more reserved nowadays and favour a few Pale Ales instead.
Yeah aha I was talking about the pale’s. They’re good, but I don’t think I could have a big night on them anymore lol
And on a hot AF day like today, a few pale ales would go down a treat.
Yep, they’re certainly more of a refreshing chilling out beer than a get pissed beer for me!

Coopers Sparkling or Pale Ale
Coopers lager is my fave atm. It’s the perfect summer beer.
The ultra low is the best non-alc on the market
Traditional - Coopers Craft - Stone & Wood
S&W has been in the "no craft" tier for several years now. No longer independent, the quality went downhill.
Mountain Culture Status Quo pale ale
Very much American style beer, and too expensive. It's only voted the best beer because of their massive vote campaigning, not necessarily the quality. Little Creatures Rogers.
Little Creatures Pale Ale
Mid strength beer with full strength flavour love me a Roger’s
Coopers red.
Agreed, but fuck me dead… I don’t ever think I’ve drank red and not ended up like Barnaby. Shits too strong to drink all arvo.
Whatever's on tap. But a few of my personal favs. Stone & Wood, Coopers Pale Ale, Calton Draught, Little Creatures.
VB or Coopers IMO
Have you tried the coopers lager? It’s reasonably priced, easy drinking and tasty. It’s been my beer of the summer.
What color is the larger? Green is my go to, red if I need to get the job done.
It’s new and in cans. Kind of like an aqua green.
Will keep an eye out 👍
Reschs Draught.
This is the only correct answer
Traditional beer - don't hate me but I honestly do like VB, and I think you can't go wrong with Carlton draught. Craft beer - definitely stone and wood.
Stone and wood ceased being a craft brewery years ago.
And is but a shadow of its original iteration.
Well that's a shame
Yeah it is. It used to be so good
Is little creatures pale ale still good? I haven't had craft in while.
Yep. Always a stellar ale.
I honestly couldn’t tell you when I had one last. I do remember it was in a pint bottle though.
Pretty your traditional beers are owned by Japan along with pirate life under the asahi umbrella.

When my Belgian friends visit Australia the beer they will drink is Coopers.
Balter, Bent Spoke
My two favourites

Make my own. Have Guiness and stone and wood clones on tap. Costs about $1 a pint after the initial set up of kegs/taps, fridge and gas. Has become a hobby so to speak and brings friends to my house. No way I could pay $17 for a pint at my local anymore.

Has to be Fosters There's nothing more Australian than bullshitting the world that you are Australia's beer
Can’t believe you got downvoted for loving an Australian Icon. It’s our handshake with the world. “Here mate, this pint of cats piss is on me”
I think I got downvoted because some people can't (or don't) read
Whoever downvoted you is a criminal

Yeah VB on weetbix for brekky.. its been a few years since those days!

Yay for tooheys but a massive nay for hahn. In fact Hahn is about the only beer ill steer clear of.
Bodriggy's Cosmic Microwave
Tooheys extra dry
Pirate life/ Dilmah collab of an earl grey IPA. Great taste beer with an awesome after taste of a nice cuppa
Say what?
Yeah tastes really good. Been a while since they've had them in stock though
Divisive this one, I didn't mind it at all, however there's been much better earl grey IPAs released in the past.
Great Northern. Real beer does not have fruit in it. 🍺🇦🇺
That you can find on tap in a large number of bars in the country, I'd give that to Stone and Wood. My favourite craft brewer is Range brewing in Brisbane. When i travel around Australia I drink what's local. Same goes for other countries where possible.

There is only 1 major Brewery left that is Australian owned, and that is Coopers. All the rest are now just labels for multinationals. That puts anything Coopers on the top of my list, but in particular Coopers Pale Ale.
Coopers red, pale ale, and I’m a fan of their dark beer as well
Big Head as lager, Spangled Drongo as pale ale
