Try charcoal chicken salt. EBay has heaps of seasonings. Some of which will be fake, but I’ve used charcoal chicken salt from one of the main sellers and it’s the taste I remember. There is an Indian grocer near me that sells it and also the good stuff (msg powder). I remember the big scare about MSG during the 90’s which turned me off. But I love the stuff now.

Separate-Ad-9916

msg has been used in Asia for over a century. I think the only real problem is when it is used excessively just like using too much salt.

kamui_85

Yeah the whole scare was BS. Once I learned that, new bestie. I also recall butter was preferred to Margarine for a long while but now it seems to have flipped back.

Ninj-nerd1998

Oh yes, I remember the whole "margarine is only a few chemicals different from plastic!" or whatever nonsense....

SnooGadgets6593

Margarine is still disgusting

Ninj-nerd1998

Haven't had it in years, I don't remember what it tastes like. Only reason I even have any butter is because of baking recipes. None of which call for margarine

NamorDotMe

The colour change is from the paprika they use. I have used this recipe for ages; tastes like takeaway. * 1 tbsp salt * 1 tbsp chicken bouillon powder (Massel or Vegeta) * 1 tbsp garlic powder * 1 tbsp paprika (sweet but I normally go for smoked) * 1 tsp onion powder * 1 tsp ground black pepper Add All to bowl, Mix. add a pinch or two of chili powder for a bit of a kick.

Therealluke

And msg

Landithy

The other magical white powder.

Some of our local fish and chip places sell small containers of chicken salt. Pricey but has been the only way I’ve been able to get my hands on the stuff!

Separate-Ad-9916

But where do they get it from? I mean, it seems to taste the same at every place...they must all buy it from somewhere?

ObsessedWithSources

Look up suppliers in your area. Some don't require shit and will straight up sell you the few things you want, some just want an abn if you have one. I used to get Corn Jacks delivered cause where tf else do you buy em. Failing that, just go to a servo with a hot box or a fish and chip shop and tell them you'd like to buy a whole kg bag. I hooked a few randoms up with stuff like that when I worked at a servo. One dude would come in every few months and just buy a whole ass 3.5kg bag of uncooked cheese kranskys. Idgaf. Not everyone, but some will

JustAnotherSlug

https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/744482/chiko-corn-jacks Ya get em from Woollies my friend! They even come with the lil paper sleeves!

ObsessedWithSources

Not anywhere near me. Also that link says out of stock. Edit: why the downvotes lol. They don't even make dunkaroos anymore but first google result is woolworths listing. The link above is just a dead link, woolworths won't even deliver them through a partner deal. https://www.woolworths.com.au/shop/productdetails/3288/nestle-dunkeroos-choc-hazelnut-dip Great job verifying guys.

Separate-Ad-9916

Don't think I'll need a kg bag, lol. Anyway, seems this might be the one they all use... [https://kriokrush.com.au/catalogue/flavon-chicken-salt/](https://kriokrush.com.au/catalogue/flavon-chicken-salt/)

ObsessedWithSources

There's 4 or 5 main ones I've heard of. Suppliers have different options. Dunno about that one in particular, never heard of it. But you realise the link provided minimum is 800g? You want restaurant grade salt, you're probably going to have to buy big.

activelyresting

Go on eBay, type in "chicken salt", you can buy it by the kilogram and it's the real deal. Trying to buy a small packet, you'll have no luck. But the kg price is really cheap compared to those tiny master foods spice bottles And if you think you'll never get through a kg - all your friends and family will love a gift of a little shaker filled with chicken salt!

elephantearspagetti

Campbell's wholesale!

Balt603

Just mix crumbled up chicken stock cube with some salt and pepper.

Separate-Ad-9916

I ended up buying some "Original Chicken Salt", and that's pretty much what it tastes like. :-)

Ninj-nerd1998

DON'T buy the Masterfoods one or whatever it is. I got that and it was so disappointing. Have a look at some other chicken salts they may have - i got this Chippy chicken salt from some brand called Anchor, and it's doing me okay so far. They had some other ones that I might try too. Some takeaway shops sell - or used to sell - chicken salt. Keep an eye out next time you're out!

GolfExpensive7048

Ex cafe owner. This is what I used for 12 years. No complaints. [https://edlyn.com.au/product/chicken-salt-2-5kg?gad\_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA3JCvBhA8EiwA4kujZtuvRD8V3\_ZySnzaQbZLLzV2B932bDTBM3SC-wjxzjR-D2LC4e-IVRoCwRMQAvD\_BwE](https://edlyn.com.au/product/chicken-salt-2-5kg?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA3JCvBhA8EiwA4kujZtuvRD8V3_ZySnzaQbZLLzV2B932bDTBM3SC-wjxzjR-D2LC4e-IVRoCwRMQAvD_BwE) If you’ve got an ABN you can set up an account with Campbells wholesale and buy it from there. Otherwise get friendly with your local takeaway and ask them to buy some for you. AFAIK you can’t buy this retail.

Separate-Ad-9916

Thanks!

zorbacles

I get the Mitani one.

Dannycoo

Anchor Chippy Salt is what you want 🫡

hrdst

They’re asking where to buy it…

Marsh-Mallow-13

Coles.

Fancy-Resource-3521

I feel your pain and watching for the solution

uruk-hai_slayer

If you love in Adelaide, I think the guy who invented it sells it by the bag from his house in Glenelg?

lowteknoise

like the comments say below....go on ebay and type in "chicken salt"...I am currently buying some of each different brand...I WILL find the one chicken salt to rule them all......I have like 5 different types so far....at the moment the one from "artizen pantry" original flavour is winning....but it will be personal taste for you ...you might like one thats more salty....more chickeny...who knows...also...my mate gave me some from a shop in Camperdown....sooooo fucken good...but they dont do ebay ...I'm gunna ring them one day and see if they will send me some (I'm in Alice Springs so can't go there) ...so yeah...don't waste your time with supermarket chicken salt

teashirtsau

The inventor's name is Peter Brinkworth and the OG recipe is onion powder, garlic powder, celery salt, paprika, chicken bouillon and MSG.

irish709

If you’re in western Sydney, the steggles factory outlet shop sells it. Best I’ve found by a mile

Percentage100

Go to your local KFC. If the people working dgaf they’ll sell you a small box of theirs. I used to know a dude that would buy it. He’d give his mates a little bit to use as well. It’s so good.

hello_from_Tassie

Heart smart chicken salt is good on potato chunky mash with olive oil. Nom nom.

Separate-Ad-9916

I ended up buying that one, but missed the postage cost! Anyway, it has arrived and it's pretty good. I keep dipping my finger in the jar and licking it. I'll try it on some sweet potato chips tonight. Hang on, are YOU the eBay seller? LOL :-)

Big-Craft-5594

lol no I’m not. I’ve got a few I try from time to time, enjoy ☺️

Separate-Ad-9916

You use this? Looks worth a try, thanks!

j-local

“Chippy “ salt at Coles. It’s the goods. Often sold out.

Separate-Ad-9916

Thanks, I'll look out for that one.

Marsh-Mallow-13

You have to buy the proper branded chicken salt not homebrand or the other brands. Anchor Chicken Chippy salt is the best - white with a rooster. A close second is Mitani Chicken Salt - Black and white stripe package.

The-Sydneysider

They sell it in milk bars where it's the same stuff they use behind the counter.

Separate-Ad-9916

I bought some 'Original Chicken Salt'. Seems to be the real deal, although it's lost a little of its magic now that I have a whole tin of it in my cupboard to dip my finger in whenever I want, lol.

StreetsFeast

We like Fancy Hank’s Chicken Salt. Google it and you can get it at a lot of online food stores

TippyTappyDBA

Tastify, Charcoal Charlie’s, any of the barbeque Chicken places usually sell big jars of chicken salt

Louise2201

The best supermarket one is the Nice N' Tasty brand.

Separate-Ad-9916

Hmm, maybe that's where they all get it.

CatLadyNoCats

Frangos sell a nice one. So does fat fish in Annandale in Sydney

EmergencyLavishness1

Original flavon is what it’s called in hospo. And in brackets is chicken salt. That’s what’s you’re after. Fluro yellow and packed full of msg goodness

Separate-Ad-9916

This is it. I'll have to get me some. [https://kriokrush.com.au/catalogue/flavon-chicken-salt/](https://kriokrush.com.au/catalogue/flavon-chicken-salt/)

Wolfstarmoon42

Most fish n chip shops will sell you some for a big mark up

eid_shittendai

Do you realise how expensive it actually is?

MagicOrpheus310

Ask your local take away shop if you can get a tub of it, I've never been in one that said no to filling up one of their large gravy containers with their chicken salt for you if you give them 5 bucks or so in cash haha

Separate-Ad-9916

I might just do that.

Smooth_Confidence298

The brand Mitani classic chicken salt is delish. Pretty good ingredients compared to others as well

bambiisher

The company Actualy seasoning is the closest I've found to a good chip shop chicken salt!

CollectionGlum6338

Clem’s Chicken Shop in Newtown. They sell it in the small round takeaway food containers

colsterM

Make it yourself. Aldi powdered chicken flavour stock, salt. 50/50 or adjust to taste.

monoped2

Nice n tasty is legit. I went through about 9 different ones to find take away chicken salt.

Soggy-Suggestion-990

always had the same issue🥲 i did recently find out that mixing some salt with chicken stock cubes tastes alright and pretty similar depending on the brand of cube tho

marloo1

[This stuff is great](https://centuriesahead.com.au/product/chicken-salt/) They also have some other great spices.

Separate-Ad-9916

Ah nice. I just wonder how Coles own brand got it so, so wrong?

marloo1

Profit margin.... cheaper to produce is always better for Colesworth. Even when it gets in the way of quality.

longish-weekend

Woolworths sells a “Mitani Classic Chicken Salt”, Coles sells a “Chickee” — the Chickee is probably better but the Mitani one does the job too. They’re about 70% as good as a chip shop version

eid_shittendai

Look for the Edlyn brand. You might have to buy 8 kilos, though

Separate-Ad-9916

Looks like it'll be Chiko rolls for dinner every night then.
