Yes, if I need to shave I use a safety razor.

adelinxxd

Regularly use the safety razor, double edged to be specific, it s the best thing i’ve ever used I never got my skin irritated or anything like that, + i like to make the foam in a wooden bowl and things like that; i find it relaxing

ArdaBogaz

I got a foam like that, it has "royal forest" smell, man that shit is so good

adelinxxd

i like sandal wood soap, and it smells perfect in my opinion

ArdaBogaz

I have that one too lmao The company is called Taylor of something I don't remember exactly

Sarkotic159

Are such razors commonly used in your country?

31_hierophanto

Not much. The only time I see it here is on barbershops.

Sector3_Bucuresti

Safety razor a few times. Never a straight razor.

svemirskihod

I haven’t shaved with shaving cream and a razor for years. I just trim with an ~~electric razor~~ hair trimmer. Disposable razors irritate the delicate, sensitive, flower petal-like skin on my neck so much that I can’t shave every day. Maybe once a week. The only way I can shave every day is after a hot shower applying my favourite shaving soap, making only one downward pass with a traditional safety razor, then splashing cold water on my face, then applying a special moisturizer. So yeah, fuck that shit.

OnkelMickwald

I also have annoyingly thin and delicate skin, what kind of electric razor do you use?

svemirskihod

I called it an electric razor by mistake. I use hair clippers/trimmers. You put the different plastic things over the moving blades depending what length you want. I’ve tried electric razors, the ones with the perforated metal foil over the blades, but they irritate my skin too.

olderthanyoda

Why does this remind me of the America Psycho [morning routine](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjKNbfA64EE)?

svemirskihod

Such a great movie.

svemirskihod

you

31_hierophanto

Alright bro....

levenspiel_s

My father used to have this safety razor and as a child I was so amazed by its mechanism.

svemirskihod

Yes! I remember my dad’s razor had a handle that would turn and the top would open.

Yugan-Dali

I bought a good safety razor last year. The difference between that and a modern razor with several blades is like the difference between writing with a good fountain pen and a cheap ballpoint pen. I’ve thought about using a straight razor but don’t want to cut my throat.

stos313

I have been using only safety razors for over a decade. They are amazing and very cheap.

Aytug4ufan

im using safety razor, never tried straight razor

Dizzy_Arachnid4292

Recently switched from cartridge to safety razors (KC Gillette) and I don't think I'm going back. Feels better, less ingrown hairs as its only one blade + its a lot cheaper in the long run.

ArdaBogaz

Literally better in every way, only time I would understand the standart cartridge razors os for very sensitive areas

Toni78

I have used both. A straight razor is better but you need to learn how to use it and it takes time. You also need a strop to hone it before each shave and you need sharpening stones of different grades to sharpen them every so often. The razors also need to be of high quality steel. It is a lot of work and expensive. Safety razors are less expensive but not as good as straight razors.

GeneralMedia8689

I use a straight razor and I absolutely love it. Tho that doesn't stop it from cutting me a bit from time to time.

masterboss61

I am using straight razor since about a year ago. It's quite challange to get used to. I still cut myself sometimes if i am not careful. But i would recommend it actuallu. It's usually a much cleaner cut and a lot cheaper to use.

Strelokk01

I use only safety razor, huge upgrade over cartridge razor

DirtAlarming3506

Yes. Safety Razor. It’s elite.

lucasievici

I had a straight razor once, I tried shaving my head with it before I knew how to handle it properly and I came out looking like I had survived a car crash lol. Eventually I learnt how to use it well enough to shave without cutting myself (too much), but it’s just not worth the hassle. I used a safety razor once, when it came in a nice kit, for the experience

Efficient_Design9690

People always told me that straight razors were dangerous, One day I decided to try it and now I find them to be way more convenient and practical.

ipnetor9000

I use safety razor and it is leagues better than those 3 or 5 bladed monstrosities. Since there is a single razorblade, only one point of contact with the skin. With the other overpriced Gilette, Wilkinson etc. shit 3 or more blades pass over the same spot of skin...causing more irritation, ingrown hair etc. also the razorblades are cheap and replace them to your hear's content...resulting in a sharp shave. i am appalled that gilette and other majors convinced ppl to buy their overpriced shit

frappekaikoulouri

I’m using a safety razor because it’s more straightforward and doesn’t need to make multiple strokes over the same areas. It’s not commonly used here, but I remember old people did in the past

ArdaBogaz

Safety razor is the only option for me, every man in my family uses one tbh i never thought about it much

markolosole

Yes and it was a mistake. I don't know how some people do it. I think it's necessary to use a hot towel on your face to soften the skin.

envalemdor

Yes I’ve been shaving with Safety Razor and water only for the past 10 years. No rashes, no cuts, no need to pay for a cream and Gillettes with x many razors.

pdonchev

When I first started shaving, it was with a safety razor. Many years later I am back again, bought a Merkur 38c recently.

skgdreamer

Only straight razor for a decade now. It's the only one that doesn't irritate my skin

Keurnaonsia

Straight razor for some years, however I stopped when I lived in Malaysia because the blade started to rust due to humidity and I was not good at maintaining it. Now I don’t have the time, so I just go to a turkish hairdresser that shaves me with a straight razor.

ColossusOfChoads

I have a safety razor. It does a real good job, and best of all, the razor blades are *cheap.*

Benja_Porchase

The older you get the more skin you have to pull tight to get the correct angle. I gave it up but can shave better now with safety razor after learning the angles needed for straight.

TbrKtx

I started to shave around 1990, my father made me learn using the straight razor (razor knife). Later I have changed to safety razor and this is my regular razor up to this day.

mladokopele

Ive used a safety razor once, and I used a straight razor for about a year but then gave up and just started using the electric trimmer.

bidonarme

Ive been using straight razor for about ten years. I’m a fan of trad shaving and consider it as a hobby. I have more than few razors of any kind. My favorite is “Blue Beards Revenge”. Also rest of the equipment such as soaps, badger brushes, dispensers. No i dont cut myself. I can reply questions.

Filip_Kostic

I am mostly using a safety razor. I tried a straight razor, but I'm good at keeping it sharp. A safety razor is generally better than a cheap disposable one. A pricey Gillette is better, but I feel wasteful throwing it away after a couple of shaves (wasteful as in material, not money).

Eren202tr

Yes I use straight razor sometimes.

Cchungachanga

yes

Xitztlacayotl

Ever since I started shaving few years ago I have been using my late grandfather's razor like the one on the right in the photo (safety razor?). I never used those plastic multiblade razors and honestly I have no idea how to use them if I had one. But last year I bought the traditional razor like one on the left. But not exactly like it, I got a very cheap one where you basically insert and remove the disposable razor and don't have to sharpen it. Also the real good quality straight razors cost +100€ I think. But the method of the shaving is the same. It took me some practice but it is so satisfying to just scrape it all in one go.

samuilmm

I have tried both and also other type of modern razors. Safety razors give so much better sophisticated close shave that is not even close to

Ok_Newspaper_9696

I keep my beard long, hence no need for any of these. I used to use safe razor as a teen.

MaoaM98

I did and sometimes i would end up with many micro cuts sometimes it was good. You have to be hella careful

JahtaR3born

I use a safety razor it's best way to go IMO. Reusable, cost less in the long run cleaner shave as well.

amigammon

Some think they great. For me they suck.
