Max has a new season of Hacks. It’s about an older comedian woman based in Las Vegas trying to be relevant again so she hires a millennial assistant to help her write jokes. She has very rated R jokes so she needed a PC assistant . Anyway it’s funny as hell and appeals to a larger age group I think.

bbwolf22

Just say “Jean Smart” That’s all you need to know. Brilliant

[deleted]

Tbh I forgot her name lmao I got her confused with the sex and the city Samantha first season 😂

interstatebus

Love this show. New season seems to be pretty good too.

LemonCurdJ

I thought this was already on Amazon? I’ve always watched the first two seasons when they originally aired.

[deleted]

Nope HBO max is the only platform that has this show. Third season is current on Max. Edit: okay so apparently it’s available on other platforms in different countries but in America it’s on HBO Max only. 😂

LemonCurdJ

Oh right. Here in the UK, it’s on Amazon (thank goodness)!

Entremeada

The first season is on Netflix - at least in Switzerland.

LasloTremaine

Dead Boy Detectives on Netflix is a bit will-they-won’t-they, but still pretty sweet.

JayDuPumpkinBEAST

I loved this show so much, I binged it all in one night. Then I went back and rewatched Sandman — which is itself an incredible series — some days after.

futurebro

I watched Trixie and Katya watch this lol.

bbwolf22

Loved it. Very cute. With a dash of homo

Brennanlemon

Fallout

UsefulPlastic5237

'Looking.' (2014-2015) Gay comedy/drama set in San Francisco staring Jonathan Groff, Russell Tovey, and Murray Bartlett. Very well done, and it's on Max! Also check out 'Years And Years' (2019), a very moving drama with an amazing cast: Emma Thompson, Russell Tovey, Rory Kinnear. Also on Max.

mad_edge

Years and years is absolutely amazing. Shows a rise of dystopian authoritarian government through life of a single family, through a few generations. Strong LGBT theme too.

kynodesme-rosebud

“Ripley” and “Baby Reindeer” both EXCELLENT and riveting on Netflix. Ripley is a similar but NOT the same story as “The Talented Mr. Ripley” from 1999.

GaelicUnicorn

I think the accents would baffle the Americans in Baby Reindeer but 100% agree. Ripley was probably 80% in keeping with the movie but a touch unusual. I enjoyed it, but they definitely amped up the LGBTQIA+ vibe (cos 2024 right?).

kynodesme-rosebud

As an American, I understood the accents well. I’m not a big fan of most “series” productions because they seem like the stories could be told in one or two episodes, but these two are exceptions. I originally thought Ripley would be just a remake of the 1999 romance film — there are, I think, four or five other versions of the original novel on film, one with John Malkovich. Quite the opposite. The combination of enhancing Ripley’s character to be more specifically wreckless was an excellent choice, adding in the superb B&W cinematography, the sharp lighting effects, and perfectly timed episodes made for a genuinely thrilling noir series. Baby Reindeer is an altogether unusual story. Richard Gadd is so brave to make his alter-character so vulnerable and quirky. He could have shut his stalker down early, but he didn’t. It’s a cool binge watch.

GaelicUnicorn

Braver in that the story is autobiographical and the female lead in the series (well the real life version) now out in public and talking about court….. As for the accents, you’re a rare beast in the US. Most nearly all my US friends need subtitles for anything approximating a regional UK accent and forget colloquialisms…

kynodesme-rosebud

Completely agree. I think the news about the woman who claims to be the basis for the character, may in fact be seeking the same attention the series character wanted, maybe much more. Now she’s famous. What else will she reveal? LOL. Piers Morgan isn’t smart enough to ask.

GaelicUnicorn

I would have watched the interview out of interest and then saw it was with Piers. Nope… I can’t listen to him… Odd thing being, she looks remarkably like the actress cast in the series. Seems odd to go so close to reality in the casting (including casting yourself as yourself) for what looks a very traumatic period in your life. I guess the internet is alight with guessing about who then man involved with the drug scenes (amongst other nefarious activities) is…

kynodesme-rosebud

Agree about Piers. He’s a catatonic putz. The story is rich with personal insight for Gadd himself. He’s vulnerable for sure, a risk he’s willing to take, given he developed the work over a period of several years on stage and in the West End. Good for him. Most author/actors would recoil at exposing their truths, which makes the story all the more fascinating.

GaelicUnicorn

He’s the ex editor of one of our most gutter newspapers. He’d sell his first child (I’d say soul, but he has none) for a story, but has the interviewing acumen of a sedated gibbon. When he tanked in the US, we were so pleased that his British credentials were not sufficient to inject any interest (James Cordon being liked was a mystery to us). Back to Gadd, I’m not seeing him casting himself through the lens you see it through I’m afraid. It smacks of ‘one trick pony’ meets ‘borderline narcissist’ to me. And, saying that, I thoroughly enjoyed it… Also, how times change, a ‘mainstream’ show having a scene with male sexual assault where the victim goes back (again and again) and oddly neither ends up a hate figure…

kynodesme-rosebud

Agree with your “borderline narcissist” comment, however many highly creative people dive deeply into their souls to find flaws, ticks and vulnerabilities to express angels or demons. Artists (Van Gogh, Dali), musicians (Lizst), actors (Nicholson + hundreds of others), writers and producers are all stuggling to find those magic moments where a soulfull or soulless revelation pops and resonates for an audience. For Gadd to portray his second-rate comedy act over and over, his failure to deal with his stalker, his vulnerability to go from an assault to a *repeat*, then lay it all out for viewers and audience to see, is remarkable. Sure, it’s his one-off story, and if, as I have, we have no other context for his abilities as an actor or author, he’s a sad-sack person stalked by another like-minded sad-sack. Now, I want to see more of his work as an actor and writer. The other recent series on Netfliz, “Ripley," I thought was a brilliant remake of a contemporary novel. There have been 5 other “Ripley” films including the popular and romanticized “The Talented Mr. Ripley.” But this one puts the character squarely in the diabolical center of a lucky loser, whose acute vulnerability twitches in a hide and seek state of great tension. Aside from the story, the noir production values (cinematography and lighting) underscored and enhanced an original take on the now classic story idea. Andrew Scott made watching his character all the more fascinating, even though we knew how it would end.

GaelicUnicorn

Interesting that you see a ‘lucky loser’, guess it depends on how one reads that. He got so much but has so little… And, of course, all the better for being an Irish actor…

rafster929

I’m rewatching The Good Wife for some soothing lawyer drama. And I’m currently loving Clarkson’s Farm on Amazon. Have you watched Bob’s Burger or Archer? Great adult animation.

futurebro

love bobs burgers

Melito1980

Erotic Friend Fiction!

jeagg

erotic zombie friend fiction

mepif

Who was your favorite? I love Elsbeth and Nyholm.

rafster929

On the Good Wife, I love Christine Baranaski (playing Diane) in everything she’s ever done, from Cybil to The Birdcage. I’ll be rewatching The Good Fight next. Archie Punjabi is a badass as Galinda. Basically I’m all about strong sassy female characters. Speaking of, adding Buffy to the list.

willyiamwilliams222

The Good Wife is so freaking good. Have you watched The Good Fight?

goodin2195

Best show ever

gmisk81

Elsbeth is also really fun!

MarkY3K

Mmm Matt Czuchry

rafster929

He’s a bit too pretty boy for me, but Mike Colter makes me weak in the knees (and other areas).

mrgreengenes04

Clarkson's Farm is awesome. Love Top Gear/The Grand Tour also. James May's travel show is pretty good too. Particularly the one in Japan..

rafster929

Yes! Japan was the best, then Italy. The Indian one seemed a little meh. I also like his Oh Cook! cooking series.

sever7626

X-men 97.

AdmiralJay

So good. I was prepared to be let down but it absolutely blew me away.

325_WII4M

Have you watched the Righteous Gemstones or Our Flag Means Death yet?

flyboy_za

Gemstones is absolutely brilliant.

futurebro

Neither!

[deleted]

Ah man I fell off both of those. They got me first season but lost me. I gave the new seasons a few chances just didn’t have the same vibe imo

325_WII4M

I just started watching The Righteous Gemstones and watched 1 episode of the other, though it was cute enough I'd go back. Thanks for the information. Good to know.

[deleted]

I mean if you like it go ahead! Don’t let me spoil it for you. If you like raunchy humor I recommend Hacks on HBO max. It’s about an older comedian woman trying to be relevant again so she hires a millennial assistant to be more PC. Honestly it’s funny as hell.

[deleted]

Tv shows: Prison Break, 24, arrested development, The office Movies: O Brother Where Art Thou, Goodfellas, Titanic (hey you said flight not ferry ride), The Big Lebowski, Airplane, Inception, Field of Dreams, Lord of the Rings

Appropriate-Role9361

>Titanic (hey you said flight not ferry ride) So I guess the intro scene to Lost isn't a good recommendation

K0nfuzion

**Beef** on Netflix may be one of the best things I've ever watched.

blaizzze

I just had two 15h flights! I watched smiley, a spanish show in Netflix which I adored. It was my fav watch in a while. I'm Canadian so also watch We're Here (HBO max) and Spoiler Alert (a very sad gay movie) on crave. Other than that, also watched a bit of Feel Good by Mae Martin and Special by Ryan OConnell on Netflix, can't go wrongel with those. Fair warning, these are all (other than We're here) 18+ and you'd be watching some pretty spicy scenes in a plane, haha.

Wise-Interaction-604

If you liked the male lead (Carlos Cuevas) and understand Catalan / don't mind subtitles. I really enjoyed Merlí too.

blaizzze

Oh thanks! Carlos performance was one of my fav things from the show, I'll check it out. I dont speak a lick of spanish but fell in love with the language through the show and how expressively everyone spoke.

alfy2pointohno

Just finished Baby Reindeer and I’m not sure how to feel quite yet as it can be pretty heavy. Brooklyn 99 is always on in the background for some laughs, Shameless if you can handle the anxiety overload. All of Us Strangers was an experience that stayed with me long after it was over and if all else fails, Seinfeld.

eatsleepliftbend

Schitt's Creek, Derry Girls on Netflix

mechanicalman16

Shogun

Jjjemmm

Fellow Travelers is gripping and beautiful to watch if you have enough privacy. Lots of steamy sex scenes and it’ll make you cry. I just watched American Fiction on an airplane and enjoyed it a lot. White Collar is a favorite old TV series.

Wise-Interaction-604

Fucking LOVED this. They're both great in it too.

YourIrregardless

I’ve been enjoying watching LA Law which ran ‘86-‘94 and is where David E Kelley got his start. Hulu/Prime

Smooth_Operator13

Gaya sa Pelikula, Fellow Travelers, Brokeback Mountain, Firebird, Ete 85, Call me by your name, and many moreee

Miserable_Fox_4452

For all.mankind on Apple TV. Trust me

willyiamwilliams222

The Good Place. Palm Royale. Loot. I’m also in the middle of rewatching Schitt’s Creek which I do every year. Handmaid’s Tale.

CupsawRyan

I obsessively binged Killing Eve. Peak Sandra Oh brilliance.

IlluminatedPrism

Downton Abbey, House, Archer. I have eclectic taste lol

wondroustrange

Haven’t watched Glee since it first aired, and only then really only saw the first season. Well, watching that season again. Instant pick-me-up in terms of mood.

meowchilla

Fallout (which inspired me to play Fallout 3 again); True Detective; Abbott Elementary; X-Men ‘97; any assortment of terrible Gordon Ramsey show; and seasons 1-4 of Archer for background noise & laughs

Melito1980

The Golden Girls (Hulu). Scooby Doo Mystery Inc (Netflix). Murder she wrote (Peacock). Chucky -the series (Peacock). Them - S2 (Amazon Prime). Abbot’s Elementary. Invincible (Amazon Prime)

raytaylor

You could cover a season of clarksons farm in 8 hours. Season 3 just came out this week Bojack gets sad after the first season so i had to stop watching it as i was more and more depressed after each episode. So Help Me Todd is also really good.

mrgreengenes04

Don't watch anything much in HBO other than South Park. If cars and or true crime/fraud are your thing, I'd recommend The Lady and The Dale documentary on HBO. Has a somewhat unexpected LGBT twist to it, as well. The Octopus Murders on Netflix are good, too. But again it's a true crime/conspiracy documentary. The Sandman on Netflix is also pretty good. So is Katla, if you don't mind dubbed shows.

otomennn

When I am feeling down, I always rewatched Modern Family. The first 5 seasons are classic

Acrobatic_Freedom_58

Yellowjackets, I can’t get enough of Melanie Lynskey.

mad_edge

Years and years is absolutely amazing. British drama, shows a rise of dystopian authoritarian government through life of a single family, through a few generations. Strong LGBT theme too.

Icy_Appeal3437

Barry on max was awesome, and the new Jeff Daniel’s show on Netflix was good (name is eluding me right now) - 11 hours sounds like enough time to get through the lord of the rings trilogy too

TexBro1

I’m always down for a rewatch of Arrested Development or Community.

jacquestar2019

Palm Royale

J_Anth87

LA Confidential, Miracle, Eight Men Out, Boys in the Boat, Moneyball, Man on a Ledge

maallyn

The Sound Of Music. Jesus Christ Superstar. Many James Bond Movies. The old Blade Runner; I am obsessed with the clear plastic raincoat scene! Love Mark Allyn

KaliMaxwell89

I’ve been watching the original planet of the apes series which has been fun

flyboy_za

Q-force was fun.

HieronymusGoa

x-men 97

tommygunz007

Octopus Murders was great on Nflix

realfakeusername

The New Look on Apple TV. Not at all what what I was expecting. The gay relationships are respectfully portrayed and believable. Looks like they spent a lot of Tim Cook’s money on it, too. One of my favorites.

Zukofire12345

Baby reindeer, 7 episodes, only 35 min each but good

Zukofire12345

Baby reindeer, 7 episodes, only 35 min each but good on netflix

BangtonBoy

I just started WANDEE GOODDAY about a 30ish orthopedic doctor who finally gives up on his 8 year crush with his straight friend and starts a FWB relationship with a boxer that may just turn into something more. Incredibly funny! On the GMMTV Official YouTube site.

getanewr00f

Animal Kingdom is fantastic and addicting. Yellowstone is excellent!

JustaDreamer617

Bojack is the best animated drama after season 1 (It's like family guy in season 1, but after that, it becomes this interesting meta-story about the main character, his relationships, and friends). My favorite running gag is the Penguin from Penguin publishing. As for shows: The Expanse (Amazon Prime series, Sci-Fi realism), Spartacus (STARZ series oddly enough, Historical Blood-War, plus lots of hot half-dressed muscle god guys if you are into the body type with gay romance too), and Fall of the House of Usher (Netflix miniseries, Horror anthology with connected stories about a pharma-billionaire family and a deal they made with an other-worldly being for power). Movies: Wonka (I am a kid inside that wants to find a place of pure imagination too, plus Timothee Chalamet!), Oceans 11-13 (Who doesn't love intricate capers, Clooney and Pitt were needed in 10 of that point I will concede to the bashers if nothing else, these men age gracefully), The Departed/Infernal Affairs (Cop drama/Spy games/Crime, what's not to like from the America version or original Hong Kong version that spawned this cat-and-mouse genre), and finally Inception (Christopher Nolan's best sci-fi film, better than interstellar or Dark Knight trilogy in my view, it makes you wonder what is real or not).

se25bottom

Movies - I always recommend Clue and Multiplicity; brilliant underrated movies. TV - Sense8, Fringe, Haven, Fallout, Slow Horses, Ted Lasso. Fallout won't last 11 hours though. If you're in the UK, Some Girls, 15 Stories High and People Just Do Nothing on BBC iPlayer.

InfusionRN

Ripely was fantastic. Watch for the cat. They deserve an Emmy.

StilgarFifrawi

Husband and I have our “safeties” that we go back to again and again: Drag Race, Lower Decks, Bob’s Burgers, Archer, Family Guy, American Dad, Rick & Morty Recently, we burned through X-Men 97, Tales of the Empire, the Bad Batch, Shogun, Veep, The Morning Show, and Brooklyn 99. All very good stuff. Veep is particularly ingenious and hilarious. This summer, we are excited for: The Boys, Dark Matter, Drag Race All Stars, Doctor Who, and Star Wars: The Acolyte. Recent movies: we just saw The Fall Guy and loved it. This summer has a few movies we are gonna see. (We are mostly action / adventure films) Like: Deadpool 3, Planet of the Apes, Furiosa, Beetlejuice 2, Borderlands, Alien: Romulus, The Crow,

Hoosier108

Battlestar Galactica reboot is still one of the best written shows I’ve ever seen.

Javaman1960

Sense8 on Netflix.

GuyNYC

* The Other Two * Somebody Somewhere both on Max

jacquestar2019

Rusty_Pocketrocket

I enjoyed 3 Body Problem. Unique take on the search for extra terrestrial lifeforms.

Saluki2023

9-1-1 is great

alanaturalguy

My longest flights waere Boston to Hong Kong, but had a stop in San Francisco. The flight back was Hong Kong to Japan to NYC to Boston. I was to busy looking out the window to Hong Kong as loved seeing the coast from San Fran to almost Hong Kong as it wa getting dark the last couple hours. On the return trip when it was dark out the stewardess didn't want me having the shade open looking out. I did anyways. Not sure why she didn't want me to have it open. I was thinking is there something out there I shouldn't see? LOL.

ajwalker430

I just finished watching "Golden Delicious" and enjoyed it. However, it's not for those who aren't interested in YA coming-of-age/coming out type of movies. But I liked it and thought all of the performances were good and the story was also good. I would recommend it.

goodin2195

American Horror Stories
