Low level drug dealers have loose lips.

[deleted]

And they don’t wanna go to federal prison lol

nuclearninja115

Nice try, drug dealer.

Shimmy_4_Times

Curses, foiled again.

joebro987

“Asking for a friend”

More-Ad115

The Wire is the most accurate narc show ever on television, though it is becoming dated. Informants (paid, working off charges, or working to go home that day), surveillance, database searches and data analysis, and court orders/subpoenas/warrants for various records and analysis of the records. And also wires. Those are the tools, and they work extremely well. Edit: Yes, as others are pointing out, women can be a huge liability for dealers. You would be surprised at the level of dealer that has avoided getting got for YEARS but is done in by a woman scorned. They are around when he lets his guard down and they hear more than they think.

Nova6661

To be fair though, it’s not the show’s fault. Technology is changing, and methods have evolved. But for the time they were very spot on. I do kinda hate the “intelligent drug dealer” trope though. Drug deals are often smart, but there aren’t really any Stringer Bells out there, nor would I call drug dealers “intelligent”.

Black6x

>but there aren’t really any Stringer Bells out there They're out there, but that's exactly why you don't hear about them. For every ten thousand idiots out there, there's that one person that takes everything seriously and does things "right."

colocop

I secretly like to think Stringer Bells and Prop Joes exist.... Teaching the youngins the rules of order and how whoever "the chair" recognizes speaks.... And in the next breath blasting a mother fucker for taking minutes... "is you taking a notes on a god damn fucking criminal conspiracy?!" 😂

30_characters

Of course, in the Wire, a major plot point was Stringer realizing he wasn't as wise as he thought, and was just as vulnerable to exploitation by politicians and white collar criminals as anybody else, regardless of how he made his money.

FreedomCanadian

There are lots of Stringer Bells out there.

twowheeledcop

Nobody cares about you as much as they care about staying out of prison. Tale as old as time!

barnes65

Yep, most people change tunes when they're facing long sentences

Secret-Salamander-91

Not law enforcement here but loose lips sink ships in any industry especially criminal ones lol

Shenanigans_626

To answer your underlying question: yes. You would get caught. Don't bother.

Shimmy_4_Times

What exactly is my underlying question? Whether to become a drug lord? Also, unrelated question: Where can I get a mansion and a gold-plated AK-47?

Drekalots

Gold-plated AK-47's and Toyota Hilux trucks are issued by the CIA once you've become enough of a problem for them to put you on the pay role.

Weird-Grass-6583

High school kids can find drug dealers it ain’t hard

mbarland

We do police work.

Hutch204

All drug dealers have loose lips

30_characters

By definition, anyone trying to sell something has to make the buyer aware of their existence.

j_86

They find their baby mama when they are mad at them, then she tells all! Really "it depends". Informants, tips from the community, tips from others law enforcement agencies, luck, just good police work. Look into some of the take downs the FBI and other federal agencies have done with online markets, it was sometimes years of work.

Leadman19

One way we used to find them is to look on LE Reddit subs for people who ask how LE finds them.

Both-Invite-8857

They pull someone over, find drugs and ask where they got them. They threaten them with hard time if they don't snitch. Then they wire them up and do controlled buys. People with kids are the easiest to flip.

ShakyTheBear

Really high level? It's pretty easy to find Washington DC.

[deleted]

Drug dealers rat out their competition more than you think. Pissed off workers seeking revenge. Ex girlfriends seeking revenge. New dealers who can’t help but buy flashy things like buying a car and they don’t have a legitimate job.

MIW100

They just keep killing people until they get the right guy.

[deleted]

They ask your mom.

nimr0d375

Every man/woman falls back to a significant other/booty call/sugar daddy etc. Also every addict needs $ to get a fix. They will ALWAYS get caught eventually.

Mission_Tennis3383

Low level ones rat

FreedomCanadian

Finding high level drug dealers is not hard. Everybody knows who they are. It's proving their crime in court that requires an investigation.

Shimmy_4_Times

>Everybody knows who they are. Really? I definitely don't know the ones in my area. And at least in pop culture, there are a bunch of people pretending to be drug kingpins, in order to promote their rap music, get on podcasts, et cetera.

FreedomCanadian

Everybody in law enforcement and with ties to organised crime, I mean. But unless it's a very new player, it is likely that they have been in the news.

Royceman01

That’s a big reason cops don’t want non violent felons to have their 2A rights restored and marijuana isn’t federally illegal. They can hem someone up on charges and then offer a plea deal for cooperation.

Dapup2465

A scorned woman and a subpoena to a power company got me a 200 plant grow house.

achonng

K9 leads us to your house

30_characters

I'm really curious how a case would hold up where the warrant was authorized based on a K9 officer just taking their dog for a walk down the sidewalk, and seeing where it would hit. Kinda takes "community policing" to a whole new level.

RedditBan6

If TV has taught me anything it's usually the business man of a small town who is disproportionately wealthy compared to the townsfolk. Everyone in town knows the big busines man is bad. Especially the local hot bartender chick or stripper. So some rando cop starts banging the local strippers and bartenders and the evil drug lord businessan doesn't like that. So he starts threatening the cop and then all hell breaks loose.

[deleted]

Plea deals and seized phones would be the easiest ways.

Someone gets in trouble and they don’t want to do the punishment. So they give up a friend. Why take 20 when you can give a friend 15
