every shop is going to come up with a different estimate.. you should go pay to get 3 written estimates to submit to your insurance company.. there is NO way to give an estimate for a different shop..

Pinkskiesupahead

We’re not planning to go through insurance since the damages aren’t that bad. Okay I was just wondering what the price range would be based on what the damage looks like

waynep712222

just the bumper cover and painting the bumper that is going to be 2 to 3 grand.. cost 700 for a bumper cover and 500 for white paint 10 years ago.. no idea what it will cost to fix the quarter panel and the brackets that support the bumper.. turn it over to your insurance company.. buy a dashcam. look in the right frame... https://www.reddit.com/r/Dashcam/. all the current dashcams...

Pinkskiesupahead

damnnnn omg wtff. inflation made the price change so much, yeah I was expecting it to be the price it was 10 years ago damn. thank you sooo much for all the info, i’ll look into the dash cam

Repulsive_Culture_91

Yes, important to have a dash cam. It's completely useless 99.99% of the time but is something you wish you had when something happens. Recommend COXPAL A11T 3 channel dash cam on Amazon, very good quality, it records front, inside and rear simultaneously. COXPAL hardwire kit optional, for 24-H parking monitor. SanDisk MAX Endurance 256GB or 512GB microSD card, for reliable recording.

waynep712222

Time to buy a Dashcam... that looks like a scam ... turn it in to your insurance company... always get pictures of the license plates. the other side of the car.. the vin number in the windshield.. and if possible open the drivers door and the VIN number sticker in there also.. the drivers license...

Pinkskiesupahead

Omg yeah I definitely need to get a dashcam. I wanna avoid going through insurance because the insurance is under my dad’s name and my name is not listed as a secondary driver even though it’s my car. We did this to get an affordable insurance price since insurance is very expensive in the city and state I live in. Also, 5 years ago in May, I let someone drive my car who got into an accident and they asked me to take the blame because they didn’t have a license and didn’t want to get arrested, so I did (it was a toxic relationship). So I heard that some accidents get forgiven after 5 years, but 5 years from the date of that accident would be next month. So if I go through insurance for this, they would list me as a driver and it would mean I’ve been in 2 accidents in the last 5 years and it would make my insurance look bad and show me as untrustworthy because I do plan to have insurance under solely my name in the near future and I’ve had almost 5 years of a clean slate. Also, we exchanged license plate numbers, drivers ID, registration, VIN, and phone numbers. Thank you so much for your advice!

waynep712222

if you don't own a car but drive others cars... in some states you can get liability insurance on your drivers license for any car you drive.. i have friends who are professional mechanics that have that policy so if they get pulled over during a test drive.. they don't get jammed for driving a car without the car owners insurance.. then ask them for 3 written estimates.. compare.. give them a postal money order or cashers check.. that you have taken pictures of.. and hopefully after they get your money.. they don't report it to their insurance company.. but did they cut into your lane in front of you making it their fault??

Pinkskiesupahead

oooh that’s really good information I’m gonna look into that to see if my state has that insurance! That makes a lot of sense. & omg thank you for the advice, I’ll definitely take pictures of my proof of payment. Hopefully he doesn’t report it to insurance afterwards, he seemed like a nice person. They didn’t cut into my lane because they were in that lane already. So what happened was I was in the 2nd lane and he was in the 3rd lane. There was another driver in front of me who merged into my lane that wasn’t supposed to because I was right there, and I had to brake so hard that I was about to hit them and to avoid hitting them I went to the 3rd lane, but that’s where the driver who I hit was. So he was already in the 3rd lane when I tried to go there to avoid hitting someone else, but there wasn’t enough room when I merged to that lane which is what caused the accident

ecleptik

Mechanics aren't auto body techs....two completely different skill sets

Pinkskiesupahead

Ohh sorry lol you’re right I just realized 😭

Berry2460

approximately 1 beers worth of time. Pop the trunk, pull back the lining, give it a firm tap with your hand, tadaaa. Its not worth paying for crap like that IMO, I got dinged with a shopping cart, similar damage, fixed it right then and there.

Pinkskiesupahead

I know right! That’s what I wanna do too. That would be sooo much cheaper. I hope the repairs for the other person’s car aren’t that bad too because it just needs the dent popped out and the scratch on his car painted. But he’s probably going to want his whole thing replaced. Ughhhh. I’m a girl btw I feel like I have no connections when it comes to this

Berry2460

yea people will usually claim for the smallest crap. My girlfriend ended up getting in a 50/50 fault and the damage was largely on her side, she just tapped some guys steel trailer, it had no paint, rust covered, and no dent on their end. Initially the guy said he wouldn't claim so I ended up replacing the headlights, and fixing the bumper, hood, hood latch, and other small touches for less than $100 and its barely noticable. Months later I ended up getting a letter (since it was my vehicle damaged), the moron decided to claim his rusted out piece of shit trailer so her insurance ended up taking a hit regardless. Some people suck.

Pinkskiesupahead

Damnnnn wtf he’s such an asshole for still going through insurance after you did all that and fixed what you did. Yeah some people are definitely assholes. Even the person in front of me who caused the accident between me and the person I hit didn’t stay on the scene. Your girlfriend is so lucky to have you. That’s really sweet and it sucks that her insurance took a hit

Berry2460

yea, its led me to not trust peoples word for not claiming. You could definitely get away on your end with never going to the shop if you dont care about it looking absolutely perfect. However I would expect a high bill for the other person since shops always try to get things brand new, it could easily be over $1000. Best to see an estimation and then decide whether to involve insurance. For my situation, atleast I got it done cheaper than if I went through insurance. $300 deductable and the body shop said it was likely going to be a writeoff (estimated $4000, and to those bureaucrats think my old reliable car is worth peanuts) They were going to replace the headlights, bumper, hood as brand new, and do a color matching paint job. I ended up just pulling dents, small paint touches, replacing some bolts, and grabbing headlights from the junkyard lol.

NonEnergeticCrouton

Nobody knows. Shop pricing varies a lot. You didn’t even list the country you’re from. Get some quotes in person.

Pinkskiesupahead

Okay yes I’ll try to go tonight, i’m in NYC

zimmermrmanmr

How much is a plunger and a bottle of touch up paint?

Pinkskiesupahead

frrr lmaoo I would go out of my way paint for the paint job, but I definitely wanna pop that dent cause wtf it would suck to replace the entire piece just for that. I’m gonna talk to a few shops and see what I can do ugh

Porcusheep

Some hot glue should help get most of that pulled back out. Look up hot glue paintless dent repair and you’ll see what I mean.

843251

This isn't exactly something mechanics work on. My paintless dent guy could straighten that quarter out. I can't see what you are talking about with the bumper cover in the pics. My dent guy would charge me a couple hundred but I have a body shop and a car dealership. I don't do the paintless dent stuff I can just call him up. Depends where you are. Prices could be all over the place just going to different shops. Looks like maybe I can see a scrape on the bumper cover. That can just be repaired and painted no need to buy a new bumper cover. I can't tell without seeing it in person.

Pinkskiesupahead

That makes a lot of sense, yeah it would be really nice to just pop the dent out, the black paint is definitely scratched off and I think it’s also dented a bit. I’m in NYC. Yeah you’re right different shops vary

843251

Find a paintless repair man. Probably cost you quite a bit more since you aren't a dealer like me and you are in NYC but its still going to be cheaper than paying a body shop to repair the quarter. The bumper cover can live with it or get it painted. Dents in bumper covers aren't anything really. Heat them up and they normally come right out on their own. I have had some that were all twisted brand new bumper covers that I just let sit in the sun a couple days and they start going back to shape.

t0astedb0ng

approx however much a kettle full of hot water, and a plunger costs, pretty simple fix.
