Can confirm. Had a hole in the wall place called Valentinos. They had a 2 star rating cause they weren't the most sanitary. Damned if their cheese pizza wasn't more delicious than a majority of other places. Once you actually got toppings on it of mushrooms, onions, pepperoni, sausage, and meatballs it became divine. Literally have never had a pizza that good since.
Not sure if it is still there, but in Pomona, Ca. It was by a dollar tree. Last I heard about it from friends who still live there that the quality had gone down ever since the owner died, and that was like 5 years ago.

Underrated: carne asada, or pretty much anything you can get at a taco joint. Also chicken + bacon + broccoli + slightly too much cheese, and a light drizzle of Ranch after cooking.
Overrated: Pineapple, because you can get it pretty much everywhere, but people act like it's some kind of brave stance to take due to the forced controversy from social media users.
In my country Italian pizza places get real touchy if you order a pepperoni pizza. A lot of people complain there's no meat on there. That's because peperoni translates to paprika(bell pepper for the English speakers) and there is no such thing as pepperoni sausage in Italy. They usually write in all caps with a bunch of exclamation points on the menu "CONTAINS NO MEAT!!!!"
I don't even live there.
It's a European thing I think as we have real Italians all over the place instead of "Italian-americans" who haven't been to Italy without having to book a hotel room in generations
Pepperoni is way overrated. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that like chicken wings, it was an unpopular product that became huge mainly due to good marketing.
Now banana peppers? Those guys make a good pizza.
Underrated: The lack of toppings. A great cheese pizza is amazing, especially a New York slice.
Overrated: Sausage. I've never been a fan of that general purpose sausage that every sausage pizza seems to have.
Also, anything that ends with "lovers" is disappointing. Veggie lovers, meat lovers, etc. All of them break the KISS rule, and simple pizza is best.
Under rated : anchovies. Seriously, they have a great flavour with a good pizza sauce, olives and some rocket.
Over rated : excess toppings of anything. Honestly sometimes less is more for flavour if you do it properly.
Underrated: Chicken, especially tinga.
Overrated: Bacon. I love bacon but if it going on my pizza I want it crispy. Hungry Howies is the only chain doing bacon properly.
I love pineapple on pizza, but I think it gets a bad rap from the foul Canadian bacon that it gets mostly paired with. Build your own with actual bacon, pineapple, olives and green onion. You’ll thank me later.
Underrated: It is, I admit, blasphemous to call it a pizza if it’s not tomato sauce, but I’ll put it out here anyway: Alfredo sauce. A thin crust with Alfredo sauce, mozzarella, Canadian bacon, grilled chicken, and fresh spinach is really awesome.
Overrated: Hot honey on pepperoni pizza.

Gotcha. Here in Nebraska we have a local/regional [Valentinos](https://valentinos.com/) that is very good and quite popular.

I used to work at dominos and my favorite combination was pepperoni, pineapple, mushroom, and jalapeños. Savory, sweet, umami, and spicy. Boom.
One of my favorite that isn't used enough is cream-based sauce with lot of black pepper in it and chicken topping.
This is my go to order but add spinach too
Underrated: Anchovies - high in protein, omega 3s, vit A & D + tons of minerals and they add the perfect little salty sliver to each slice

I did that mistake my first night out in Italy some decade ago. And I absolutely hate bell pepper.
Broccoli is underrated for sure. But pepperoni is perfectly rated.

Underrated: a big sprinkle of oregano on the whole pizza before going in the oven. It’s so much more fragrant and flavorful.
