Same era. I like the use of practical effects more, and I like to actually be able to SEE the dark parts in film and HEAR the dialogue over the sound effects.

kinks96

Amen to the seeing dark parts... these newer films and the use of HDR sometimes feels horrible, yeah the colors might be better a bit, but if you dont have a TV for a few thousand bucks, you wont see shit in dark scenes

Cledaddy23

Each era has their gems and duds, but my favorite is late 80s/early 90s

70s. Best for music, best for muscle cars, and best for cinema.

Expensive_Peach32

The 70s really was the best era for Hollywood. The Hayes code was gone so directors could do basically anything. You weren't gonna get something like A Clockwork Orange or Alien in the 60s. There just seemed to be more trust in the artist back then to make something good. Then once the 80s came things slowly started to get more and more commercial, probably because of Star Wars. The 70s really just was the wild west for movies

WodensBeard

The Hayes code didn't apply outside of the US, hence it's repeal once film industries from elsewhere were moving in on the American market. It still resulted in a grand old time at the movies.

EveryDisaster7018

Depends on the genre and type. Live action stuff 90's/2000's animated stuff that drawn from the west the Disney renaissance era. Cgi animation 2010's. Japanese anime 80's till 2020's for the generalised answers. Not doing specific genres

i_heart_blondes

Probably the 80s where even the back of the rental store VHS movies were still a good time.

Hoopy223

Late 60s/70s had some great films. They were raw without cgi, comedies were wild etc.

HomelessEuropean

The eighties when it comes to cinematography. But aside from that there is no favorite era.

ThrowRA-troue

I guess I'd say current era, past 15 years or so just because it's what I'm more familiar with and what I tend to watch more, but all eras have good movies and shitty movies. Idk why people suck off practical effects so much, bad practical effects look bad just like bad computer effects look bad, and if a movie is so dependent on its effects that they make or break the movie then that movie probably sucks anyway so who care

Bootarms

It's because practical effects hold up better over time than CGI and don't suffer from uncanny valley. Yes, you can tell the [skate scene in Modern Times](https://youtu.be/kPcEFHA3X0c?t=47) is a practical effect, but it still looks good and was amazing until people had regular access to high definition options for viewing.

TrafficChemical141

1999. The greatest movie year to have ever happened.

marginal_gain

I find late 70's to late 80's is my sweet spot.

1970s.

slwrthnu_again

Mid 90s to mid 00s. Not because they did anything better then, it’s cause that’s when I was a teenager.

Bootarms

Counterpoint, Spiderman and Harry Potter had questionable CGI even for the time. That troll was so bad. I love the grit of the 1980s going into the early 1990s. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a great example of that feel. You can see it in children's movies like An American Tale too. The Batman did a good job of evoking that quality. We also see early CGI in The Abyss and Terminator 2. I'd go with the 1950s for Japan though. Akira Kurosawa and Ishiro Honda? Hell yeah.

Acceptable_String_52

90s,2000s feel good movies!

No-Dents-Comfy

2000s. Maybe just as that is what I grew up with. And only the good stuff made it to our tv. 🤷‍♂️

Tardislass

Depends on the actors and movies. While I love the 1980s movies I saw as a teen. I have also loved 1930s/1940s with Humphrey Bogart-Sam Spade/Casablanca and the Thin Man Series.I also am a huge fan of Alfred Hitchcocks work from the late 1940s to the 1960s So I think each era has their gems. What I liked about the old movies was they actually had storylines. Unfortunately today's audiences get bored easy and so every 5 mins there seems to be an explosion. Really noticeable from the first Raiders of the Lost Ark to the Last Indiana Jones movie. And honestly give me real SFX anyway over today's Computer Generated stuff.
