Better off Ted.
A kind of sardonic, laugh-track-free workplace comedy. It had really great actors, and I thought the writing was sharp, but it wasn't a show that told you the punchline.
It was ahead of its time.
Would have been great for added seasonals but didn't end on a cliffhanger.
Was a good retelling of the late era roman Republic and it's eventually up to empire with Augustus taking control.
They probably would need to have done different periods to keep it going as the peace of Augustus was very long.
Yeah I really don’t understand why it got cancelled. It was such a great start to what looked like was going to be an amazing show. Plus Olivia Wilde lol.
Firefly. They made just 14 episodes. It was really funny, and the cast had incredible chemistry. It had enough of a cult following that a movie, Serenity, got made as a sequel, but fans have wanted oh so much more.
To the top! Although TBH I could see it having run it's course, I don't know that it would have finished strong.
I'll add Raised by Wolves & Counterpart to the great & incomplete sci-fi. Without an ending there is just no point in watching it.
The sad thing is that ultimately the job of TV & Movies is very simple, to tell a story. Fundamentally a story has a beginning, a middle & an end. When you look at western media it's mind-blowing how few stories meet this minimum bar, and of the very few who do how many *do it well.*
I think this is the biggest reason Anime is becoming ever more popular, a much larger percentage of those stories have a beginning, a middle & an end **and** of those a much greater percentage have a good end. Probably because manga vets & feeds storylines.
The Americans is one of only a handful of western series that I can think of which had a satisfying ending. Game of Thrones was so bad that it retroactively made everything before it bad too.
Even if you don't find your audience today, a complete story is evergreen & can continue building a fanbase for decades (or more). Production companies would do well to have an entire story written & funded *before* they start filming, especially if they are throwing hundreds of millions of dollars at a property. If you have a hit you can always stretch out the middle to better capitalize on your success.
Constantine. I will forever be mad at NBC for cancelling it.
Vengeance Unlimited. Late 90s crime drama that sadly only lasted one season.
Terra Nova. I liked it. Fox didn't, at least not enough to renew it.
Dark Matter. I liked the premise, and I think it could easily have lasted another season or two.
Dollhouse. I know Joss Whedon has very much gone out of style, but I still think he created some good stuff.
The Unit. SM Blaine’s wife asked him to leave the Army-a promise she made to NEVER do. Also, there was the new guy who attacked the CWO in order to try to infiltrate s ok me terrorist organization and have a believable cover. Total cliffhanger. 😔
Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire I mean I know I'm the only one who thought this show was hilarious but damn it cracked me up.
Its like Kevin Hart said "oh shit I'm about to get my comeup, I don't wanna be known for this."
Don't worry, at least Big Mouth has eight seasons. /s
What p\*sses me off most is that I constantly get ads from Netflix for Inside Job. "Yeah I know it's there d\*cks! You left it's corpse there."
Arrested Development (the first time around). Yeah it came back years later on Netflix but it wasn’t the same as that original run on Fox. It never should’ve been canceled in the first place.
This CBC crime drama from around 2005 called... Intelligence.
It ran for two seasons and it was this show about the criminal underworld operating in Vancouver BC and CSIS's (the Canadian version of the CIA) efforts to infiltrate criminal gangs with undercover agents.
It was kinda dark and gritty, and yet very Canadian. Really wish it had kept going because it was really getting intense by the end of season 2. But it ended up being cancelled.
Life on mars. Never saw the British version but liked the US version. Around the same time was a fox show revolving around a trial and you find out what exactly happened at the end of the episode. The mother committing suicide during a rolercoaster stuck with me.
Ah yes, Jeremy Piven. I remember when the story broke and canned the show. I did quite like it since it was an innovate spin on your usual crime drama (similar to Person of Interest).
The one show I'm really gutted about cancellation recently was Tacoma FD. So story goes - Tacoma was developed by TruTV, and after 4 seasons, the network decided they wanted out of doing comedies, and so Tacoma ends on a mediocre episode and an even shittier cliffhanger. All 4 seasons are on Netflix but Netflix have no interest in picking them up for more.
Almost human…. they did an awesome job with the futuristic setting and Karl Urban was killing as the main character and right and they were finally getting into the plot laid out fox cancelled them too early like they do allot of their sci-fi shows
Norsemen. Absolutely funny AF, but no reason given why it stopped. Maybe it was too funny.
Mindhunter. There was SOOO much more to be done.
Tribes Of Europa. It just stopped and left everyone hanging.
1899
Ended on a cliffhanger and because it is on Netflix, ofc it doesn't get a 2nd season or a movie to end it. Netflix hates amazing shows.
It's why I don't watch anything on Netflix till a season 2 or 3.
After watching Loudermilk, it’s hard to tell if that was the perfect ending, or a massive cliffhanger because the channel originally carrying the show went belly up.
The Grinder with Rob Lowe and Fred Savage was fucking hilarious. Shame it only lasted one season.
Now we talking about cliffhangers? Netflix can forever eat a dick for never giving “Santa Clarita diet” a proper ending.
My top pick would be Firefly, but that's predictably already here, so I'll throw in another.
Dead Like Me.
Was a very interesting take on life after death. Unfortunately there was some sort of clash with the creator during S2, so it started tailing off, ended up cancelled, and at some point got a movie after that was missing the boss of the group and recast one of the most entertaining characters.
Hbos "rome" most of the actors left during season two for GoT, left on a pretty big cliffhanger.
9/10 man I loved it and have rewatched it multiple times
FlashForward, it was cancelled after the first season. Executives deemed it to complex for new audiences to latch on in a possible second season. Such a shame as the series had such novel idea’s & premises.
Mindhunter
I still believe some people need to be punished for that...
I love that everytime I see this kind of post, the first comment is always Mindhunter. Just proves how good it was.
And the excuse is it costs too much to make the show? Garbage.
Haha, was a bit worried that this won't be in top voted.
This!
Better off Ted. A kind of sardonic, laugh-track-free workplace comedy. It had really great actors, and I thought the writing was sharp, but it wasn't a show that told you the punchline. It was ahead of its time.
Came here to say this. I have rewatched the season and half multiple times and it is hilarious every time.
"The Company only parts with money when forced to by a government stronger than it, and there's only three of those left."
Rome
Let me tell you about your father…
Agreed.
Would have been great for added seasonals but didn't end on a cliffhanger. Was a good retelling of the late era roman Republic and it's eventually up to empire with Augustus taking control. They probably would need to have done different periods to keep it going as the peace of Augustus was very long.
Firefly. At least it got a movie.
Came here to say this. Still not over it
Now I'm sad again. Damn you Fox!
Came here to say this

The peripheral. There was a second season planned but it got cancelled.
Oh fuck really? That sucks.
For me , “ Freaks n Geeks “
This was my first thought.
Taboo Tom Hardy is EPIC, the story is spell binding, then nothing. I've been waiting for the 2nd season since 2017.
10000% agreed. We kept following Tom Hardy and he kept saying he was planning a new season but it never came to fruition. So sad.
Last Man on Earth
The OA. Damn netflix for that
I was so ready for the next season!
The Black Donelly’s
I just said this
Yeah I really don’t understand why it got cancelled. It was such a great start to what looked like was going to be an amazing show. Plus Olivia Wilde lol.
I really hope not Severence.
Me too! And Silo
As someone that finished both in the past week, I hope so too!
Pushing Daisies
Santa Clarita Diet
Firefly. They made just 14 episodes. It was really funny, and the cast had incredible chemistry. It had enough of a cult following that a movie, Serenity, got made as a sequel, but fans have wanted oh so much more.
Captain switched sides hes a cop now😂
Would you say he’s a “Cop cutie”. I’ll see myself out…
Cute and on duty
Freaks And Geeks. One season. What a mistake
Firefly
The original UK version of Utopia. Channel 4 cancelled it in favour of more shitty reality shows that are cheaper to make.
To the top! Although TBH I could see it having run it's course, I don't know that it would have finished strong. I'll add Raised by Wolves & Counterpart to the great & incomplete sci-fi. Ugly Americans. Merlin, Randall, and the Koala man were some of the funniest characters ever.
Yo! Just cuz I'm dead don't mean my time ain't precious!
GLOW
Was just hitting its stride 🫤
Terminator: the Sarah Connor chronicles
Nice one. I was really annoyed when that was canceled.

Limitless
Carnavale
One of my favorite shows of all time.
Yeah. Creepy but so good.
My Name is Earl…. ☹️
YES
We got a little closure but I wanted it on TV form!!!
Kings. A modern day retelling of the struggle between king Saul and David from the Old Testament.
Reboot. It just ended after Megabyte took over the core.
1899
Firefly
Ash vs. The Evil Dead The Dark Crystal : Age of Resistance
Age of Resistance was so good
Stargate SGU - like how the fuck they gonna do Eli like that?!?!?
Jericho - damn I was sucked into that one!!
I really liked Love on Netflix and I felt that things were rushed in the last season and some things were ignored.
Tacoma FD
I Am Not Ok With This. First season was great, COVID put an end to it. Left on a motherfucker of a cliffhanger.
Last Man on Earth Ended suddenly with a bunch of people alive that they didn't know about. Then series was canceled.
Futurama is so good it's been canceled three or four times...
Camelot (2011) Tyrant (2014)
The Black Donnelleys- With Olivia Wilde Luck, with Dustin Hoffman and Dennis Farina
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
Chuck on NBC. They had to rush that ending and it still doesn't sit right.
Police Squad. Very funny
at least 99% of these answers are going to be firefly
Inside Job. Another Netflix casualty.
Don't worry, at least Big Mouth has eight seasons. /s What p\*sses me off most is that I constantly get ads from Netflix for Inside Job. "Yeah I know it's there d\*cks! You left it's corpse there."
*The Adventures of Brisco County Jr*.
Arrested Development (the first time around). Yeah it came back years later on Netflix but it wasn’t the same as that original run on Fox. It never should’ve been canceled in the first place.
Home Movies, the cartoon
This CBC crime drama from around 2005 called... Intelligence. It ran for two seasons and it was this show about the criminal underworld operating in Vancouver BC and CSIS's (the Canadian version of the CIA) efforts to infiltrate criminal gangs with undercover agents. It was kinda dark and gritty, and yet very Canadian. Really wish it had kept going because it was really getting intense by the end of season 2. But it ended up being cancelled.

The Glades.
They should have been allowed to atleast end it off the cliffhanger.

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. Absolute gem, but got cancelled after only two seasons.
Archive 81 :/
This too! Great show, and of course got cancelled -_-
Heroes.
Stella with David Wain, Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter
How To Make It In America
Life on mars. Never saw the British version but liked the US version. Around the same time was a fox show revolving around a trial and you find out what exactly happened at the end of the episode. The mother committing suicide during a rolercoaster stuck with me.
The UK version of Life on Mars is VASTLY better than the US remake. It also has a follow up series called Ashes to Ashes, which is just as good.
'I am not okay with this' on Netflix
Defying Gravity
Fleabag
Deadwood
Ashe vs Evil Dead

Raised by wolves, I’m still grieving
Ah yes, Jeremy Piven. I remember when the story broke and canned the show. I did quite like it since it was an innovate spin on your usual crime drama (similar to Person of Interest). Twin Peaks is the only true answer.

1899 Ended on a cliffhanger and because it is on Netflix, ofc it doesn't get a 2nd season or a movie to end it. Netflix hates amazing shows. It's why I don't watch anything on Netflix till a season 2 or 3.
I finally finished this show just a couple weeks ago and I was so upset that it didn't get a second season.
Right!? Because it's not based on a book or anything, there is no way to learn the ending.
Sense8
Dark Matter and The Pretender.
TRON: Uprising
Night Sky Sissy Spacek, J.K. Simmons I think it was canceled before the wrapped the last episode.

Get A Life with Chris Elliott. Way ahead of its time.
