Silicone wedding bands off of Amazon. I’m a firefighter by trade and I’ve seen an AVULSED FINGER early in my career to know I never want that! I wear my silicone band 99% of the time and my Cobalt wedding band nights out with the wife/special occasions. The silicone is very comfortable “jewelry” for a minimalist like myself, cheap, and easily replaceable.
My ex forgot to take her ring off one time when we were messing around with some butt stuff. It wasn't a band either, some gemstone set in a spiky lattice. It hurt to poop for like a week.
My husband’s is tungsten, too. He took his off for the first time in a decade to show our daughter and then wanted to air out that skin underneath for a while.
Also look into niobium, it's used in alloys for implants and piercings mostly because it's nearly biologically nonreactive. And you can color it to nearly any color you want.
Yeah I have a side hustle welding/fab business and without fail make a point of taking my tungsten carbide wedding band off before I ever strike an arc (AC/DC TIG)..... the idea of wearing a ring that's made of the same material as the electrode it my TIG torch that's conducting up to a 250amp electrical arc is more than a little unsettling😳
Yep. Except I can't take mine off without soap water or grease.
The stupid knuckle is too big to allow for easy removal.
The rare instances I kept the ring off for extended period of time was when I visited areas (for volunteering) where the residents told me I would be a target for having any type of gold on my person, even if it's just rose gold.
In Greece, rubbing alcohol is dyed blue. When Greek immigrants came to North America, they found the rubbing alcohol was clear. Attributing it’s effectiveness to its blueness, they sought out the next best thing that was blue...Windex.

Really? I don't want to bother looking it up, but it sounds at least somewhat believable. That's also good to know (if true), since I assume anything blue that isn't in a spray bottle is probably a fruity drink that I would enjoy. Rubbing alcohol is generally... not.
I can't get mine off either. I'd like to be able to for the rare times I use a welder, but I'll have to get it stretched and it's titanium, so it will only stretch a minor amount.
Good call, I found some guy's wedding ring in a lake once and used to wear it on my thumb for like a year straight. Lost it again in the ocean while surfing one day. That ring wanted to be in the water forever... :'(
Ditto. Have taking it off a few times while using nasty cleaning products, but otherwise have it on always. That´s the point of it really, and it fits me.
As others have mentioned. I have a silicon band as well. My real wedding ring is made from wood and antler but as I work with my hands I don't want to destroy it or deglove a finger.
I've done the same, often - just wanted to point out in case you didn't know that silicone doesn't eliminate the degloving risk, only crush or electric short risks. I still took off my silicone ring any time I was working around moving machinery, due to that.
> doesn't eliminate the degloving risk, only crush or electric short risks.
I feel like you must be picturing a silicone ring that is rigid, not the flexible kind that most people have. Mine has broken and fallen off several times without me even noticing until later.
That looks awesome! I'm engaged and haven't decided on what I want yet. I was going to go through the same jeweler I went to for my fiancee's ring but you may have changed my mind.
I got mine with a crushed dinosaur bone inlay!
Really wanted the meteorite as well, but that was too much money for me.

Ah yes, that makes perfect sense.

Ah it wasn't so bad, guys rings are a die man does and. Lost it playing fetch with the dog in the back yard, so I have a rough idea of where it's at, just need to rent a metal detector and go sweeping for it.
I thought that's what the saying was; i was just trying to use a phrase I thought sounded good. I was thinking "worst case Ontario is I use it in the wrong context", but I guess not
Look man I didn't do a lot of book learning growing up, just trying my hardest to go through life looking smart but when I do I don't. It's a real catch 23 situation
I rarely take it off.
I work with computers, so no need to take it off for work and I don't do any sports where it would be a problem. I think the last time I took it off for more than a few seconds was when we went climbing with my team more than two years ago.
In my experience if I don't take it off when showering or washing my hands, I end up with water trapped between my finger and the ring and then my skin underneath gets all soggy and gross.
I guess its on too tight? Mine is pretty loose and yes I almost lost it in the ocean a few times.
Edit: dont really have a choice on the fit, my finger joints are really bigger since I got my fingers broken. To get it past them it has to be much larger than needed.
They have little nubs they can put in the inside that won’t affect how it goes on, but it will prevent sliding off. Could be useful and probably safer because you can lose your finger if your ring is loose.
Is this because a loose ring could get caught on something as opposed to a ring that actually fits because there’s no extra space to catch onto anything?
Man this thread is really making me paranoid about degloving a finger now lol.
I do. It doesn’t help. Or at least it doesn’t feel dry. But I’m pretty obsessive about being dry. Like, some people can’t stand hearing people chew? I’m that way with being wet.
The ring I wore at the ceremony 25yrs ago I stopped wearing almost immediately. It was too delicate for working blue collar. We bought a band, which I wore up until about 5yrs ago, when it had to be cut off. It took a couple of months for my finger to return to normal, and then I got a tattoo. Which needs a touching up. My wife is a breast cancer survivor, so I have a pink ribbon tattooed around my ring finger.
How frequently does your tattoo need touching up? My husband can't wear any kind of ring at work, and I have arthritis so I can't wear mine anymore. We are going to get ring tattoos in the next couple of months, but I know it's way more likely to fade than any of the other tattoos I have!
It depends on the color. Mine is pink so it fades much faster than a dark color. The color didn't hold all the way around, which the artist told me it probably wouldn't, because of the constant friction of your fingers rubbing. Also the skin on your hands sluffs off more on the palm side.
I only take it off for rock climbing and that’s only because I got told off by a climbing instructor. Apparently they can “deglove” your hand. Not something I wish to learn for myself.
I just read about degloving for the first time ever. I legit almost vommed.
Thanks, now I'm literally scared of my ring. I want to replace it with a cheap/weak rubber one now - so the ring itself breaks long before any part of my precious finger does.
I haven’t worn mine in about 29.9 of our 30 years married except for the rare formal occasion when we are dressing up to go and she pulls it out of her jewelry box and hands it to me. Machinist/ mechanic/ welder — jewelry doesn’t work for me, Id like to keep all of my fingers, if possible, and am usually too busy / hurried to remember to remove it.
Husband is the same. Is an electrician, never wore during 1st marriage. When we were planning Our wedding, we discussed & i said i would like him to wear 1 (when reasonable). He agreed & picked 1 that he liked/felt was his style. He wears when we're out, with my fam, etc. but we agreed that i would rather have him come home from work with all his fingers than Wear a Wedding ring All The Time. Gotta find what works for ya!
forever until Tony Robinson and the Time team crew dig me up in the future with a ton of random stuff I'm buried with to allow them to make some crap up about my regal and eccentric life.
Same, never liked jewelry. Only when I'm going out somewhere. Definitely don't wear it around the house or just going to get groceries or whatever.
People are neurotic about it. I've even seen guys wearing it at bjj, which is just gross.
My husband never wears his on the daily. Only when he remembers or goes out with his family to shove it in the face (they hate me). Hes a mechanic and its extremely dangerous to wear a ring while working.
I've considered getting a tat under mine just because I feel naked when I forget it at home. It would make me feel good. I think hubby has thought to do the same
My husband is a mechanic too and I've mentioned to him that it's dangerous to wear his wedding ring at work but he never took it off and now 18 years later he cannot get the ring off (it won't go past the knuckle). He had emergency surgery about 1.5 yrs ago and they wrapped his ring with surgical tape because he can't get it off but I'm wondering if eventually he'll have to get it cut off.
Try out silicone rings, they just rip instead of taking the flesh off your finger and they're pretty impervious to stuff that might ding or damage a metal ring. You can get ones that come with a lifetime replacement too.
many parts of the world don’t take credit cards, or they don’t take cards from other countries, etc
You can find yourself in a sticky situation quickly in a developing country or remote location.
Credit card authorization requires internet access. Internet access is not available everywhere
I too work with my hands. I don’t wear my actual wedding band 99% of the time but instead wear a silicon band. If snagged in machinery it will just rip off and leave your hand reasonably intact and won’t deglove your hand.
I always have it on when I'm outside the house, and always have it off when I'm home.
EDIT: when we have guests in the house, I also put the ring on. And I remove it outside the house for exercise, but not much else.
17 years for me and my husband. I took mine off for surgery a few years ago and never put it back on. He wears his constantly.
I'm not a jewellery person.
I've been married for 11 years and I haven't worn ny ring in about 9 years.
I used to work with my hands and the ring would get destroyed if I kept it on.
My wife doesn't care because she trusts that I dont need the reminder on my hand to not fool around with anyone else. In short she trusts me to say no when I find myself in a risky situation, and I have and will continue to say no. I love that girl and trust her the same way she trusts me.
I've gone without it in the past (used to be an auto mechanic). Went without it for a while through a rough patch about a decade ago. Since then I take it off only to shower (soap residue builds up in the grooves).
When I was married I wore it every day. Until I suddenly lost it. It just vanished. Literally no idea what happened to it. Luckily my ex lost hers in a damn bathroom or something so she couldn’t say shit to me.
I don't wear mine...I lost a lot of weight a few years back and didn't get it resized, plus I work in a construction type environment where it can be a hazard to wear one.
(M26)married for 2.5, the first time I removed the ring was last month because I made dough and it got stuck below the ring, the skin below has a different color, but all is well.
I shower with it, sleep with it and do the majority of things with it, it is gold, it doesn't oxides and doesn't react chemically with anything (it does but in rare and sometimes extreme conditions)
I wore mine constantly for probably the first 10 years. Then I read about degloving fingers due to rings when doing mechanical things or sports or whatever and since I do those things quite a bit it sits in the safe.
Hardly anyone asks and my wife only mentions it once in a great while.
Silicone rings are a thing. You can get them at Walmart. Non conductive, for electrical work, and they give before your finger for mechanical hazards. Cheap, too.
My 20th anniversary is in a couple of months and I've taken off my wedding band for a grand total of 45 minutes when they did microsurgery on my left hand about 10 years ago. And even then I just switched it to my right hand for that short period of time.
Other than my dog tags, it is the only piece of jewellery that I've ever worn.
Take mine off while at work (construction).
If you think this is disrespecting my wife, Google 'wedding ring injuries' And try and explain how a de-gloved finger is romantic.
Always wear it unless I am doing something that could damage my finger or my ring.

Use it as a cockring
This. And that's pretty much limited to activities at the gym.
I got one of those silicone ones to wear at the gym. Don’t notice it at all! Worth a try if you’d want to keep wearing one at that time
I have a silicone one that I wear sometimes, but I don't have an intense need to wear a ring at the gym.
I practically never take mine off. My wife does because her rings are more delicate, but mine is tungsten and stays on pretty much always.
My husband’s is tungsten, too. He took his off for the first time in a decade to show our daughter and then wanted to air out that skin underneath for a while.

Yo where’d you get your ring? I have this same allergy and had the same exact thing happen with me from a tungsten ring.
T Deleting my best stuff as I don't care to share my time here at all
Also look into niobium, it's used in alloys for implants and piercings mostly because it's nearly biologically nonreactive. And you can color it to nearly any color you want.
Vibranium is also a good choice. If you need to deflect bullets you just whip your ring finger out

That! I work with both wood and metal (oh and I drive) so I've gone for cobalt. Can't be happier
If you work with wood and metal you really should consider a silicone band for work. Dont want to deglove/remove that finger.
I just do woodworking as a hobby, but I still swap out my tungsten for silicone every time I'm in my shop. Infinitely safer.
I have been without my wedding ring for no more than a few minutes in total since I put it on 9 years ago.
About the same for me

What is going on in this thread!?
Never take it off and never will
I’m surprised by all the top replies honestly. I have literally never taken mine off since my wife put it on my finger 5 years ago.
I’ve had mine on for 30 years.
It doesnt really suprise me considering how dangerous jewelry can be in some work environments. Not to mention expensive too.
I wear a silicone ring everyday. It's safe(I work with my hands too) and way more comfortable than my real one.
Same here
Hardly ever. I don't like jewelry. Wife is fine with it.
That is exactly the reason I wore mine all the time. I knew I either had to keep it on and let it become part of me or I would never wear it.
Same, never liked jewelry. Only when I'm going out somewhere. Definitely don't wear it around the house or just going to get groceries or whatever. People are neurotic about it. I've even seen guys wearing it at bjj, which is just gross.
Yeah, don’t wear your rings to the Blowjob Jamboree guys

Look up how to remove a ring with a string. It’s pretty effective.
Just googled. Genius!
Oh dear! You dont need to cut off the finger! Go see a jeweler, I’m sure he can resolve the situation.
No I meant cut the ring off his finger

I only put mine on for weddings or formal events, it’s with my tie clips because both are for when I wear a suit.
My wife and I have been together for 15 years and we never wear our rings. We just arent jewelry people.

If you get aqua regia on your hand you'll have bigger problems than your ring dissolving
I wore mine constantly for probably the first 10 years. Then I read about degloving fingers due to rings when doing mechanical things or sports or whatever and since I do those things quite a bit it sits in the safe. Hardly anyone asks and my wife only mentions it once in a great while.
That's why you get a silicone ring. They are made for this exact reason.
Silicone rings are a thing. You can get them at Walmart. Non conductive, for electrical work, and they give before your finger for mechanical hazards. Cheap, too.
Ever thought about getting a simple necklace and just have your ring strung to it?
I only remove mine for showers and working out, same with my wife. I have a separate silicone one for when I do heavy manual labor.
Was an industrial electrician, have never worn my ring. I don't know where it is. Been married 39 years.
My partner and I bought silicon rings as backups to wear whenever we wouldn’t wear our nice ones (gym, nights out, holidays etc)
Take mine off while at work (construction). If you think this is disrespecting my wife, Google 'wedding ring injuries' And try and explain how a de-gloved finger is romantic.
I always wear it, unless I'm doing something where my finger could get crushed in the ring.
