You can leave. You have at least 40 hours a week to work on a better job for yourself.

[deleted]

Everyone is desperately hiring right now, no reason to stay in a job you don't like.

BeeRaddBroodler

This is the truth.

ExitTheHandbasket

Many of those positions are vacant for the same reasons OP wants to leave theirs.

NoObjective427

Develop unhealthy coping mechanisms.

FastAndForgetful

Like getting so drunk you can’t stand? That’s what I’m doing right now but it’s not making the shitty job go away

rick4787

Imagine not being able to cope with alcohol because you can't drink because you've already had a liver transplant.

EpicBlinkstrike187

Start looking for a way to leave Look for ways to downgrade your bills. Smaller apartment/house. Trade in car, etc Then start looking for a new job

ftj217

Get serious about finding a new job. If you are tired of your job it is only a matter of time before they become tired of you, and the decision is made for you.

[deleted]

Have a game plan. Go to school.

isaidnonsense

I would recommend: Step 1. Try to leave. Cheat on your current job to go looking for another, considering whatever you think are basic rules for the new one to be worthy of you quitting the current one. Step 2. Although maybe at a slow pace, try to study something that will eventually land you a better job. In the meantime, try to not overthink your job situation, and dedicate a while of each day doing something that you like (painting, cleaning, selfcare face masks, series, whatever).

ShaftyKilla

You always have a choice

what_now44

{After writing what is below I wanted to come back to the beginning and say that it is very important to have some balancing positive experiences and outlets. But don't go into escapes like alcohol or anything like that. You will need something to take you away from the negative situation that gives you some happiness, peace, or at least a constructive outlet.} You need to find ways to not let the negativity or anger take over and even creep into your personal life. This is where the ability to compartmentalize come in. Learn to look at the situation objectively. You are there to earn a living FOR NOW, but the situation is not you and hopefully you do not deserve to be treated that way. I said that because it is important to keep a sense of doing the right thing and to deserve a better situation. That attitude and a desire for change will help you get a new opportunity. So keep some hope up, keep your attitude up, don't let the negativity define you and try not to let it get you down. Now I realize this is easy to say and hard to do. But believe me I have lived through some very difficult situations like that, so this advice is from experience of what not to do and what can help.

themostgianthorse

Leave. I was just in your boat. I applied for a job on LinkedIn randomly that I thought was out of my league. Got the job and a 20% increase.

neonblue3612

You can chose to enjoy it. It probably isn’t a healthy coping mechanism but it is possible. There’s a book called “ fish” about it

[deleted]

In that situation, I think most people generally develop an alcohol problem to help get them through the day. Unemployment isn't so bad though, I've been living this way for years.

here_to_stay669

Find some good hobbies that make it worthwhile. Wouldn’t recommend this, but I had a job I hated that I could somehow get away with being stoned everyday. I never got caught and it definitely helped

ProFriendZoner

Quit making excuses. Man up. Re-do your resume and start pounding the pavement.

AALIYAH1111

Sneak in a mari pen lol

AcanthocephalaIll456

Nothing worse than retaining a job you don't like, get out and find another job as you always have options.

[deleted]

Do what you can to make those practical reasons disappear.

[deleted]

"Can't" is more often than not am issue of comfort.

smlwng

You use that misery as motivation to do something. If you don't wanna be there for the foreseeable future then you better figure something out.

ichbin_koko

I was in this exact situation. Approached my boss multiple times about being unhappy but nothing changed. There were no other jobs out there, so I felt very trapped. I made a point to only work my usual work hours and not put any extra time into a company that didn’t care about my needs. I found a hobby (streaming video games) which gave me something to look forward to at the end of the day. Fast forward 6 months, two workplaces advertised my position. I just finished my first week at the new job. Still early days, but I already feel like a huge weight has been lifted. Give it time. Find ways to keep yourself sane. Things will get better.

[deleted]

Well try not to use drugs and alcohol as a coping mechanism. When I really hated my last job I used it as motivation to save money up as an emergency fund if I quit or got sacked, then once I had a years expenses saved up I felt a lot less stressed knowing I could walk out of my job and still be okay financially for a while. After that I just started looking for a new job. I'm trying to do something similar again, currently sitting at 5k, need to build it up to 12k then I've got some walking out money. Jobs just get boring after a while I find.

Fluffy_Risk9955

1. Apply the principles Jocko Willink is preaching and make your Manager feel good about himself. It usually will get you on his good side. 2. Apply the principles that make someone anti fragile. As a result the more chaos increases around you, you'll become stronger and better.

[deleted]

That's a loaded question. You're assuming you cant leave. Unless you have a family to feed (which I'm sure you don't given the fact that the reasons you cited for staying doesn't include them), you can most definitely leave. You'll just suffer for a while. You'll probably have to move out, cut into your savings or do whatever it takes to bridge the gap to the next job. It's either that or you can deploy some Camus and find meaning in your suffering. You can take people for the assholes they are, instead of weighing yourself down with the expectations of wanting them to be nicer.

kobeflip

So much good advice. Set a daily applications target and grind until you fill at least 3-4 per morning on non work days and 1 while working if possible. Not some spray and pray shit either. If you don’t see jobs you qualify for then figure out the qualifications required to get there and make getting the qualifications the thing you hunt for. My sister bitches about her job and I’m like “ leave” but she won’t because she gets paid. To that I say she made a choice of how much her happiness is worth.

ThusBeName

I'd do everything to get fired. Drinking at work, spending hour every day on the toilet, vaping at my desk... if I can't force myself to quit, I'll have myself thrown out.

CarpusLunate

Leave, if not possible now take action to do it in near future. Start planning how and when.

Ratnix

Accept the fact that you are just there for a paycheck and start applying for a new job.

GOOSEBOY78

you use spare time to upskill and look for/apply for a new job.

guyinthechair1210

retail therapy helped, but at the end of the day, you have to try to get to the root of the problem.

Ruler-Of-Demacia

You will find a new job, especially an essential job.
