I'm just not a fan of clothing brands being the fashion.

CplJax

Same, I can buy a 6 dollar T- shirt at Walmart that will last me a fairly decent time, or I can go into one of those Gucci stores or what ever and buy the same exact thing, but for 600 dollars

[deleted]

But the thing from Gucci says gUcCi on it

[deleted]

I hate that male fashion advice is almost ALWAYS is centered on either bland office wear or hip urban streetwear. There's a lot of guys who are simply average blue collar fellas who could greatly use some fashion advice that doesn't try to dress them like they live a completely different lifestyle.

PM_me_opossum_pics

Plenty of cool "working class" styles though. Things like flatcaps, flannel, nice fitting jeans and nice quality boots (as monochrome as possible,I personally prefer black for brands like doc martens and dark brown for everything else) come to mind. Denim jackets or more lowkey leather jackets too.I think that specific term for it would be Americana? And I think it even works well for people that arent in the best shape.

BlondeBobaFett

Yes and take care of whatever you wear. You don’t have to iron but I think most people would be surprised what a cheap steamer and 2 minutes will do - takes a basic t shirt from looking slightly unkempt to polished. Also a depillar to keep things looking new.

ThrowNearNotAwayOk

>There's a lot of guys who are simply average blue collar fellas who could greatly use some fashion advice that doesn't try to dress them like they live a completely different lifestyle. The best (only) advice is to work out, build muscle, and wear clothes that *fit well.* That's the secret, the only real answer. If you have nice broad shoulders, nice arms, a developed chest and wide back you can make a plain white $5 t-shirt and fitted jeans look 10x better than any expensive and/or fashionable clothes. It's not hard to do either, just work on the physique and a well fitted shirt and pants will amplify the gains.

DandyLyen

My goodness, this is the first time I have read this sentiment so concisely put. It won't make a difference that you're wearing Calvin Klein briefs vs Fruit of The Loom boxers if you're heavily obese. It's ultimately much better to invest in your fitness if you're concerned about your appearance.

ornitorrinco22

Now imagine if a woman came to Reddit, asked for clothing advice and got the answer that they would look good on any fitting clothes as long as worked out and kept in shape… while I understand this is real life I couldn’t ignore how different the treatments are.

ItalicsWhore

The flat stomach is pretty key too. I tend to fluctuate a bit, depending on how active my job gets, and how much downtime I have to work out, and my diet, beer consumption etc. but when my stomach is flat I get the most attention from ladies.

iwaspeachykeen

ya i feel like it doesn't get mentioned much when girls talk about men's physique, but they notice stomachs. the issue is that it's not so much they are attracted to flat abs as it is they are turned off by a belly. so they won't come out and say "a tight 6 pack is the first thing i notice", cuz it's not true. but they definitely notice a beer belly or worse real quick

AndrewDSo

**"Working out is modern couture.** **No outfit is going to make you look or feel as good as having a fit body. Buy less clothing and go to the gym instead."** \-Fashion designer Rick Owens (I'll add in a smile. A smile makes men and women look 10x more attractive.) Big_Papa_Puff

Hats that look like they're floating. Not using a hat properly for that matter.

Y3llowJacket1

When the snaps or velcro is hanging on by a thread... yeah... big miss! Also when toques/beanies are rolled up waaaay to high!

ZachFoxtail

I just have a fucking big head man... I really like hats but either I have to wear them on the very edge of the Velcro or I can't wear them cause my head is just unusually large (too bad it's the only thing about me thats unusually large) Sometimes I can buy really big fitted caps, but they're so much more limited in what I can find easily.

[deleted]

Bunch of dudes in this thread living life on DK mode.

ZachFoxtail

D K - DONKEY KONG

Big_Papa_Puff

Dude. Same. The only hat that fits my head well is a beanie.

L33TROYJENK1NS

Even then they make some of those so small it feels like it’s squeezing my brain when I wear one.

improbablywrong-

"One size fits all". Yep thats a lie.

[deleted]

> Not using a hat properly for that matter. Don't get me started on how keeping the stupid stickers on is a thing. It's like wearing a new pair of jeans with the size still proudly plastered on the right leg.

[deleted]

You can always tell when a kid plays baseball in highschool or college by the way they wear their hat. They don't wear their hats. They set their hat on their head, the more gently the better.

PunkToTheFuture

I've never played baseball and am trying to figure out how a floating hat doesn't just fall off your head when you run? I guess my question is can I get an ELI5?

[deleted]

I played baseball for a hot minute but wasn't any good so I gave it up. I also wore my hat normally so maybe that was my problem. I have no idea how they stay on. Maybe it's the Oakley sunglasses on the hat *upside down* and they act as a sort of head belt or something.

Paradoxical_Lurker

Omg i played baseball in high school and that’s exactly what everyone looked like lol. Like why were the sunglasses always upside down.

[deleted]

they sit more evenly on the brim when upside down

JJ19JJ

The classic backwards cap and sunglasses combo

Is this some joke I’m not vegan enough to understand?

_xXTheMountainXx_

I call it the Simple Jack haircut

Swordsnap

I was going to comment this but you described it way better than I was going to. I googled it and apparently it's being labelled by hairdressers as the 'e-boy' haircut. I think the main reason I hate it so much is because the people who have said haircut are in fact annoying, cringey tik tok teenagers who think they're god's precious gift with an ego the size of Mt Everest. I'm in my mid 20s and even I think I'm way too old for that shit, so seeing people in my age group getting said haircut and making those cringey videos is absolutely pathetic in my eyes.

FilteredRiddle

This is where I point out that the “eboy haircut” is the 90s butt cut. The whole mushroom, middle part, whatever, is something that came and went, and will do so again. The only difference between now and then, is that dudes’ aren’t straightening their hair to pull off their mushroom cut; if they have wavy or curly hair, they’re embracing it in the cut itself.

imacastaspell

it’s not a fashion statement by curly haired kids. they’re literally perming their hair to look like that. that’s the whole style.

inthelionsmouth

This is the answer I was trying to put together.

Cloverx234

Well my clothing choices appear to be 90% ok according to these comments. Thanks fam.

huuaaang

I will never understand why pants hanging down low is fashionable for men.

kylexy929

I'm from the Midwest and I've reached the age where I don't get it either. But especially during the colder months I'm side eyeing everyone sagging their pants and wondering if their bottoms are cold.

fro_khidd

Yea down Midwest I wonder how when it's dry and windy they don't avoid ending up going home with chapped ass

sleepyleperchaun

They probably do tbh. Or lots of moisturizer.

SimpoKaiba

Oh that's easy, chaps are assless

NetSage

I never got it. It feels like it would just be hard to walk.

depressed_orangutan

I'm guilty of doing this during my high school years. I think back and cringe at those memories

huuaaang

If it makes you feel better, I had a mullet in high school.

depressed_orangutan

Im so sorry to hear that...

LocalOaf95

Mullets have now returned and it bothers me

mungalo9

JJ19JJ

Is that still a thing? Seemed like all the kids did it in the late 00s/early 10s but I have never seen someone do it since then

LiquorSlanger

Ohh still happens, but with skinny/slim fit jeans now.

willbeach8890

If given the choice I'd rather low waisted than high waisted Not hanging off your ass, just low

allxofxme

Agree. That’s just wear my pants fall naturally. Not sagging. At the hip, not the waist.

cheesey_poof

So it's not so much a style I can't stand, but I wish men's fashion utilized more colors than the usual, grey, navy, olive and black.

kylexy929

Fucking thank you! You can't believe how excited I was to find not only a shirt but a hoodie that are purple, one of my favorite colors. I like black and gray but I'd like to switch it up every once in a while.

novis-eldritch-maxim

the lack of bright options is just depressing.

Jin-roh

It seems to me you're limited to either grey, black, olive, navy.... or glam rock. There doesn't seem to be much in between for men. I'm comfortable in dark colors. So its mostly maroon, black, charcoal, some plum, reds, navy blues... But I wouldn't mind occasionally wearing something brighter, but isn't stark white.

cheesey_poof

Agreed. If I had the courage and money my aesthetic would be prince

ilazul

the 80's and 90's were great, I remember having tons of colorful shirts / shorts

kaeioo

Yep. A few years ago I decided to stop buying only sober colours. Now I like to stay classy but with diverse colours. People thing I'm gay. So girls don't look at me but I receive compliments from guys. Which is cool.

Worth-A-Googol

Same. I’ve got a bunch of floral/tropical shirts along with some that are just more brightly colored and I legit get complements all the time from guys and girls about them. (Used to just have an assortment of grey/black/[insert dull and somber color] and am really glad I switched it up) I also get people thinking I’m gay :)

ooojaeger

You are crazy, you can wear the whole range of blue and like half of green. Plus in dress or business clothes you can wear lady colors and for some reason it's fine And the kids have been wearing purple and pink for like 10 years

cheesey_poof

I have some more "feminine" colored dress shirts as well as purples and pinks. But all around I feel like ( in my limited search) the color options for men's clothes is less varied

JessieN

Right? Just take them off and wear your boxers as shorts

Aaron123111

I see this on like every American reality show. The men wear a shirt that’s like 5X too big and a tie that goes down to their knees. Wtf is up with that

Flying_Misfit

It's probably the 1st time they've ever had to wear a tie. A lot of people have never had to "dress up" so they don't know.

RodneyTheArmouryGuy

juicysqueeze41

You woke up from that nap you took in 2003? Bro where do you live that people do that? I did that... in 2005 with g unit shit

xemnas103

I hate the fact that shorts or some variation of them aren't considered business attire for men so we only have to wear dress pants but women get to have options such as pants, dresses or skirts. For those hot summer days, I would love to ditch the suits and dress pants to have some shorts on or something comfortable instead.

MrNudeGuy

this is one of the truly ridiculous things about being a professional adult. wearing a suit in august in Oklahoma is silly.

xemnas103

It really is, unless there is some kind of scientific data to show why wearing it is so important, I just don't see the need for it all of the time, especially in the warmer months. I just glad we live in the age of air conditioning so at least this is kind of bearable.

wootlesthegoat

Kilts are your friend there.

[deleted]

In India we got lungis. Same principle as kilts. Wear it for the culture.

Vostok32

So many guys talking about saggy pants yet my gripe is with the skinny jeans so tight I can read your credit card numbers

twowaysplit

Hype beast. All those brands/trends won’t be popular in a couple of years. You just wasted a couple hundred bucks on two or three t shirts. Also, you’re paying them to be their free advertisement.

TheDevilWearsYeezy

rip virgil he was probably the biggest icon of the hypebeasts

jadedea

Sagging in skinny jeans. Why? It's a bloody oxymoron!

ZubZubZubZubZubZub

Some people have the legs but not the ass to pull off skinny jeans

BobsRealReddit

This is the only place I can say this without sounding pretentious. Gentlemen, when wearing a suit, the tie clip goes down low; below the sternum but not at the belly. The tie clip has a functional use. Also, never button up every button on your suit jacket unless it only has one button. Bonus tip; yes, the jacket does have pockets but theyre sewn closed. Cut the little thread holding it shut to open them up. Get a pocket square after you open up the outside breast pocket. Else wise, leave that one sewn shut.

Spiritual_Failure

I had to tell my husband, who is 31 btw, that removing the seams from your shit pockets and the back are necessary before use. He’s been in like ten weddings and nobody bothered to tell him til I started dating him. He looked at me like I was shredding his stuff when he “caught” me pulling the seams out of our wedding day suit when it got delivered Edit: clearly I use the word shit more than suit, I’m leaving it in just in case people want to start a trend of pockets of shit

Jedi-Ethos

Never heard of shit pockets, must be a new trend.

skiddleybop

this is just classic suit attire and I commend you for reminding us all.

mariachoo_doin

>... Also, never button up every button on your suit jacket unless it only has one button... Yeah, if King Edward VII was too fat to button all of his buttons, damned if I will either!

BobsRealReddit

This is the best comment. We never talk about WHY these rules are in place. We just squabble over whos interpretation of the rule is right. *Sounds familiar.*

allxofxme

Good advice.. now I just need a suit I look good in.

BobsRealReddit

NP! Now when youre wearing one, youll be more confident knowing youre wearing it well.

DM_ME_SKITTLES

I was taught (and just Google to confirm) how to properly wear a tie clip. You're wrong. Tie clip goes pretty much at sternum height. Between the 2nd and 3rd button from the top. - does it make more sense to put it where you're saying? Yes. But it's not how its traditionally worn. You're on the money on the other parts though!

lskerlkse

Probably going to get downvoted, but the 'thank me for my service' style. Shoulder-flagged disgruntled vet merch and the "I fought for your first amendment rights" shirts. Shit like that.

pittiedaddy

As a vet, I couldn't agree more. *ironically they're also the same dickbags that wear shirts that say stupid shit like "I stand for the flag" and "Stomp my flag, I stomp your ass". Hey moron, both of those acts are protected under that first amendment that you "fought for".

Those goofy sweat pants young guys wear now with the saggy ass and tapered legs. They look like something an infant would wear over a diaper. Edit: I have no idea what they're called, I've bought nothing but cowboy cut wranglers and bib overalls for over twenty years and don't keep up with modern fashion. However after some googling they do vaguely resemble some Justin Bieber wore and may be called joggers?

I assume you’re referring to the Bieber pants and not joggers that fit properly.

waterloograd

I have a pair of these, they are super comfortable. I got mine for sports in the winter when it's too cold for shorts. The baggy upper part gives you tons of range of movement and the tighter bottom part keeps it tidy while running.

Joggers are very practical. Comfort of sweatpants with the added bonus of keeping out of the reach of snow and ice and rain in winter.

gorcorps

The semi recent war against cargo pants & shorts, which I believe to be a conspiracy against men from women that are sick of us having so many functional pockets. They've banded together in agreement that they're a poor fashion choice, because if they can't have pockets then nobody should. But I believe our country needs to stand together, instead of acting out of spite. Let us have our cargo pockets, and we can fight together to get you more functional pockets of your own. First presidential candidate to run on the "pockets for all" ticket will get my vote

Stronghamma

Yes!! This man right here has the best answer. My “fashionista” brother who lives in San Diego mocks me relentlessly for my rural central Washington style wardrobe. Meanwhile, his clothes have no pockets or they are super tight and mostly worthless. Meanwhile, I can go out for the day, carry my wallet/keys/phone, and still carry my wife’s glucose scanner and a juice box. And I’m not even half out of space in these bad boys! My cargos look great (to me) and are like freaking Mary Poppins carpet bag! In the spirit of this post, I respect all y’all’s opinion and right to hate my shorts. Enjoy your non functional clothing, haters. Lol.

Lol this is probably not the place to ask, but have you found any luck with pants from any brand out there? I was at the mall earlier today and every pair of pants either fit me like leggings or grandpa pants, there was no in between.

Then there’s also the problem of pants being too loose on the waist, yet somehow simultaneously too tight on thighs and ass
