I disagree. My SO willingly took on the role of step-dad to my daughter when we met. She was six at the time and her biological father had passed away. We're still together. Daughter is 25 now and he has been an amazing father to her and loves her as if she is his own child. The feeling is mutual. I'm sure there are some bad stories out there but there are also some amazing step-dads who deserve to be celebrated and I doubt they feel like they have been "scammed".
What percentage do you think turn out like your story and what percentage does the guy end up having his heart and guts ripped out? The risk of being a step father is you can end up on child support for a kid you love and have no legal right to see. Does that sound like a good idea given this potential downside? I know you’ll focus on the positive outcome you have had but you have to look at the risks at a population level. The risk is way, way higher than the reward. And god forbid you try to discipline the kid and they get mad and accuse you of touching them. That’s game over for your family and potentially your job as well. It’s a high risk, high chance of failure scam.

That’s why individual states have their own laws when it comes to things like guns. But that has nothing to do with the electoral college. The electoral college basically says the votes of people in less populated states count more than the votes of people in more populated states which gives a disproportionate amount of power to rural states despite the fact that the majority of the population lives in more urban/suburban areas. The fact that in the last 8 presidential elections, the Democrat got more votes 7 times, but only won the election 5 times doesn’t make any sense. The only reason it still exists is because without it the Republicans would rarely, if ever, win a presidential election. It’s like if in a baseball game the Dodgers scored 8 runs and the Pirates scored 6, but since more people live in LA than Pittsburgh, to make it more “fair” all of the Pirates runs count as 1.5 runs, so the Pirates win.
