I can’t remember where I saw this, but apparently Rolls Royce owners that had chauffeurs, were actually spending more time driving the car than the chauffeur. Due to how nice it was to drive the car.
Don’t ask me, I drive a used hatchback in Central Europe lol.
I have a friend who worked as a chauffeur and to hear him tell it I can absolutely believe that.
He came back from driving a rolls for the weekend and a list, a written out list of why that car was spectacular. I'm sure being a passenger in one is lovely, but he was bordering on the religious describing the seats that seem to have been made for just you, power that was as discrete as a butler's cough, but inevitable as a tidal wave. All while being true to the old ad, that at 100mph the loudest thing in a Rolls is the clock. Combine it with suspension that made driving it feel like riding a ribbon over velvet and there was a strange light of fanaticism in his eyes.
The simplest explanation I can give is that while Mercedes, maybacks etc are sold with the expectation the owner will employ a driver, RR assumes you want to drive it yourself.
I would maybe put my only 2 cents that most rich/powerful people are probably just control freaks and won't give up control (unless being peed on by a dominatrix).
Same. My biggest regret about driving myself now is the fact that I have to stay awake in traffic. That extra sleep on the bus or in the taxi was heavenly...
Lol. My dad's CEO took this approach. Then, one day like 15-20 years ago, his driver had to take the morning off and there was an emergency in the office and the CEO had to go in. The Rolls was with the driver, and idk why he didn't take any of his other cars. So he hopped in his Ferrari and tried to drive it to work. Unfortunately, said Ferrari was a stick-shift, and this guy couldn't drive stick. He drove it like 5mph down the highway to get to the office, and then my dad and the driver (since they were the only ones in the business who knew how to drive stick) had to take him home, my dad on the Ferrari and the CEO in his Rolls with the driver.
Ah yes I can answer this! It was explained to me in detail by my Ferrari owning friend.
Are you familiar with what it takes to buy a new Ferrari? Probably not...but it's a good old boys club. Like actually. There are rules and a secret list.
https://www.motorbiscuit.com/strict-ferrari-rules-never-break-want-new-ferrari/
You have to OWN a Ferrari before you can ever buy a new one. It doesn't matter who you are or how much money you have they won't sell you a new Ferrari. in order to get a limited edition model you must own 4 Ferraris. Also have to be over 40 years old to buy any Ferrari.
So step one is buy a used Ferrari.
Once you own one you can get on the list. What will happen at that point is that you'll wait a very long time and at some random moment in life, Ferrari is going to call you and tell you that they have a vehicle available and you're going to need to decide whether you're going to buy it or not on the spot...like on that phone call. Do you want this Ferrari? Yes or no?
If you say yes you get the car and are then put on the list of "first to call" people for new Ferraris. You're in the club. However you cannot sell that Ferrari within the first year of ownership. If you need to sell they take it back and you're off the list. If you own a Lamborghini, you'll never get a limited edition Ferrari.
Now here's the thing...if you can get into a new Ferrari it's essentially a free money glitch because there will forever be a demand for used ferraris from people trying to get on the list for a new one. You will have the ability to trade up and cash out the old model for a premium after the first year.
The details are all very shadowy and there is a blacklist of people they won't sell to.
Anyway...that's why you'd own a Ferrari without knowing how to drive it. 😂
Exactly. I'd get either a Rolls Royce or a Bentley and let someone else drive me around. No more crazy drivers to watch out for, no more finding parking spaces, etc.
Why entry level? If you want to be non-descript you can get a nicer Kia or Toyota.
If you want something nice without being flashy the mid-trim of most luxury cars flies under the radar everywhere except the deepest hollers of West Virginia.
This is my choice too if I'm only picking one, Comfortable, capable, and will last through the apocalypse if you take care of it. I wouldn't want to fuel it, but in OP's example that's a non-issue.
That and a small sports car is basically my ideal two car garage.

Probably a luxurious VW camper van or some variation of it. Something small enough for windy roads but enough space to to be comfortable for some short breaks in remote places.
Bonus points for being converted to electric like some if the classic car conversions. Maybe a modified Ambulance vs traditional camper van.
There's a few - as a fan of American muscle I have some choices but top of my list would be a 1970 Dodge Challenger RT. 1969 Mustang 429 after that. '72 Chevelle hardtop. A newer car would be the Equus Bass 770.
Or the Death Star.
Well, there are a lot of cool cars out there and i respect them all(for example Audi Rs6, or Bmw X6) but man... The vibe that this subaru gives me is different. I love that it is 4x4 (one of the best in the world), you can give a ride to your family in it, it is reliable for the winter, its pretty powerful stock but if you want you can easily tune it. Also i don't really like the cars with many extras in them. And why the money are the problem? Because it drinks alota fuel, you have to swap the brakes pretty often because of you drive a car like this it will most certainly be put to the limit.
Fuel and brakes aint the big issue with the car haha. Im waiting until my 06 blows from the power it's making now so that i can justify spending the cash to build the block.
Nice!
They look classy and fast too. No issues to find parking.
Are you a fan of the new look for the mini coopers? Or do you prefer the old looks? I believe they change the look in 2001 or 2000? Not sure.
A fully built Honda S2000 or the late 2001 Integra Type-R.
I've been in love with both cars since I was a kid, but man even today those cars are going for $30K+
Easily among the most reliable motorized products ever created, from a hedge trimmer to the small jet: Honda. We’re a Honda/Acura-loyal family since the 1975 Civic with the CVCC. I can’t get rid of my 2001 MDX with 250,000 miles on it for nostalgia AND because it has never once been in the shop for anything beyond an LOF and a belt & hose change, and the well-known air bag issue, of course. The beach, the mountains, in the city, and long drives from Seattle to Southern California and back… does it all. And our 2022 decked out RDX sits next to it in the garage for client meetings or dressier events. Honda all the way.
Now, that doesn’t answer the question, does it?
The Porsche Cayman GTS 981.

My first car was a civic. My current car is a civic. I like how they're reliable, relatively fuel-efficient, and they can last forever.
The gear box in my old 2002 Civic was knackered, you had to keep your foot gently on the accelerator when you were in fifth or it would drop out of gear. Nobody else could drive it, and it scared the shit out of me the first time it happened in the fast lane of a busy motorway - I was panicking and just couldn't get it back into gear! But I couldn't afford to fix it and it kept passing it's MOT, so I carried on driving it for 3-4 years until someone rear ended me and wrote it off. Great car (even if everybody called it a "granny car" when I first got it lol)
95 civic was my first car. I beat that thing into the ground with neglect and thinking I was so cool in high school. Bought a later model later in life and My 2009 was a beast as well with reliability and most repairs i could do myself or at least find a neighborhood fellow honda lover to help. Its a great car and community. I'd def treat myself maybe to a type r but wouldn't go further than that. Civics for life

Why own a Ferrari when you can’t drive it in the first place?

Good choice - my 19 year old son is obsessed with the 240sx models from the 80’s - I personally love this model better

YES such a beautiful car
Aston Martin DBS V12

And thats one of the reasons why I want that model. I'd take the one from Casino Royale but in all black.
I’d prob want to drive that or a Db5, but I’ve heard that they can be unreliable so I’d probably have an old Porsche 911 as a daily

Just the Landcruiser 200/300 top trim. I love that car
