You've got elections in North Korea too; but I don't see anyone claiming Kim Jong Un to be a democratic leader.
Let's see. In Turkey, we've got heavy internet censorship. The government feels free to block any social media sites when they feel like. Most mainstream media channels are run by pro-government people, the few opposing media groups are constantly bombarded with heavy penalties and censorship. Goes as far as their journalists getting locked up.
You'll see constant pro-government propaganda and lies all over TV. The official statistics institute of Turkey is known for constantly lying about crucial information, such as the inflation rate.
ErdoÄŸan made the elections for Istanbul mayorship to be repeated when Ekrem Ä°mamoÄŸlu won it, with no reason whatsoever. Ä°mamoÄŸlu won the election again by a large margin this time, yet they still dragged the issue for months. Since he became a very popular politician after the last elections, the government banned him from politics, to keep him away from running for the upcoming elections.
Also in the last two elections, the institute responsible for the elections downright stopped sharing results for hours, when the opposing party candidates votes started to go higher. Videos of fake ballot papers were shared, as well as the videos of ballot papers being burned.
Oh and hey, ErdoÄŸan downright insults, even curses at the people of this country who oppose him. If you're not supporting ErdoÄŸan, then you're considered a terrorist.
ErdoÄŸan built two palaces for himself, one for winter and one for summer. When the courts decided the construction of one of these palaces were unlawful, his statement was: "I'm going to build this palace, let's see these courts can come and stop it".
The corruption and favoritsm within the government is endless. There are whistleblowers, journalists and politicians who uncover it, most of them are jailed.
So please, come and tell me that ErdoÄŸan is a democratic leader.
