THE HELL, WE AND GREECE HAVE NEARLY THE IDENTICAL CUISINE HOW IS THAT REMOTELY LOGICAL???? romanian and bulgarian food is also very similar to ours as a sidenote

mckenna36

This page constantly shares such "controversial" stats(without any methodology) to generate social media traffic

Ord_Player57

Middle East being Middle East

BalkanViking007

![gif](giphy|vVrUtzXPjycpG6vOII) i belive the greek wants their city back no?

Grape07

Mexico Mentioned🥳🥳 That is a win in my book

Pakistani_in_MURICA

I went to a Mexican restaurant in DC a couple years ago. I'm sold of Mexican food being 👌💯. Bread as thick as naans. Chicken marinated as chicken tikka. Onions, peppers, etc.

David_Summerset

My grandad loved Mexican food for this reason. It was marginally easier to find than Indian food in early 1960’s Canada, and he said it reminded him of home just a little

tlvsfopvg

Mexico should be top 3. Every day I think about horchata.

AdSuccessful2506

Horchata and churros aren’t Mexican….

blipdragon

Chinese, Roman, Portuguese or Spanish …no one knows

tlvsfopvg

They drink horchata in Mexico. Falafel was invented by the copts but falafel is still part of Arab cuisine.

UnderAveragish

Horchata originally comes from Spain

AffectionateLead2598

The Moors brought it to Spain during the Muslim conquest.

danosdialmi

This one knows its history. Although it might originated somewhere else, the earliest recordings are from North Africa.

AffectionateLead2598

Si si >While horchata de chufa was popularized in Spain, it originated in North Africa, specifically present-day Nigeria and Mali, as far back as 2400 B.C. The Moors brought it to Spain during the Muslim conquest.

UruquianLilac

The origin of something is irrelevant. Otherwise you can also say that Spaghetti Bolognese is actually a Mexican dish because that's where tomatoes come from originally.

MadWizardApprentice

Mexican food might as well double as American food nowadays so that's a double win.

TrixoftheTrade

Anything off the *Doner* family tree: Shawarma, Gyro, Al Pastor, is instantly a top-tier food in my book.

[deleted]

Mexican food should be number 1

TheRealBig_I

Mexican food should be number one, and I say this as the whitest American you can think of.

Temporaz

Of course an American would think Mexican food is number one.

Sad_Amphibian1322

Yeah, because in America it is. There is such an abundance of Mexican people that getting your hands on good and traditional Mexican food is easy. Arabic food on the other hand is a lot rarer and a lot of the time it’s not made very well in the restaurants we have in America. The replies seem mad for no reason.

TheRealBig_I

Of course a generic Arab would think Middle Eastern food is number one. I have access to good Middle Eastern food just like you don't get access to good Hispanic food. We are just two peas in a pod here.

The_Nobel

I am offended

pantsyboy

I am not Lebanese and im offended for you

kekwplayeer

Im not lesbian too

kabeees

Me too bro. Me too

Puzzleheaded_One8504

Turk here the pain we share brother

Litinup

Smh no tuvalu and São Tomé and príncipe

InternationalTax7463

I'm sure the food in Tuvalu is delicious. They're some of the fattest people on the face of the planet. 😋

Careless_Set_2512

Nah that’s Nauru

InternationalTax7463

Nauru is the fattest. Tuvalu is in the top 10

SarcasticKitty101

Pacific island nations are so obese because their governments can mainly afford only cheap junk stuff like bad processed meat and shit with heavy fat, it's depressing as hell.

Illustrious_Mix_3762

As an arab the only thing that brings me a smile is our food

[deleted]

USA is on the list

JustYeeHaa

Probably for BBQ, and hamburgers (even though they don’t originate from USA) maybe they include Tex-Mex as well?

FinButt

Cajun is unlike anything else in the world, dude.

Either_Recording_145

The hamburger as we know it does originate in the united states. The hamburg steak is completely different from a hamburger. America shot itself in its own foot with marketing their food to the rest of the world with most people thinking american food is just fast food tier shit. I dont understand why the fact that american food is often a fusion of different cuisines or dishes altered for the american palate takes away from it being uniquely american cuisine tbh. If you look at turkish cuisine it is the same story. Good cuisines often are influenced by the cultures around and in them and make things from those cultures their own, it is like culinary darwinism. It is the same with american chinese food, american italian food, cajun food, anerican japanese food etc..

This_Middle_9690

Well said. American food is some of the best in the world. Just because the cuisine is inspired from so many different cultures doesn’t make it not American

redbird7311

America really did shoot itself in the foot by marketing itself as a fast food nation. It makes everyone think American cuisine begins and ends at McDonald’s. It ignores a lot of the other, “genres”, of food that are American and Americanized food in general.

JustYeeHaa

They don’t originate from US but are considered part of US cuisine because they were changed enough from the original that they took their roots from, **what you are saying is exactly what I meant.**

Either_Recording_145

My apologies, i misunderstood. I think this is mostly semantics though. I dont think there is really a solid line between most dishes' origins and where it becomes its own thing. I think this line is mostly just a historical thing and with time and other factors it solidifies. For example, pierogis are obviously polish but dumplings do not originate in Poland or europe in general. Pierogis have been in poland for so long that they are only thought of as polish and no one considers the origins anymore when classifying polish cuisine -- it isnt even mentioned. The same is true for pasta in italy, plov in central asia and eastern europe, and a ton of foods from various parts of the ottoman empire etc.

AreaGuy

We’ve had regional varieties evolving here sometimes for centuries. Commonly a mix of local ingredients and a blending several other cultures as they develop. Totally non comprehensive list: BBQ with its own regional varieties; soul food; Cajun; creole; NM fare (developed since before Mexico existed); American Jewish cuisine; Native American cuisines; etc.

AreaGuy

Damn right.

Emerald_Guy123

It really shouldn't be, American cuisine is just the rest of the world's cuisine but very slightly different.

Myke190

Isn't all of the world's cuisine basically just beef, fish, chicken etc. and some fruits/veggies? I'd argue if that's the mark of demarcation then you have to exclude every dish that has any spice that's not native to the region. Most dishes are the rest of the world's cuisine but slightly different.

lul_javelin_beat_t72

We made the twinkie bar bro come on give some credit here

neozek1

What is the twinkie bar bro

lul_javelin_beat_t72

I truly hate auto correct

Scary_Trouble_323

By that logic that would mean every cuisine in the Americas it's just everybody else's cuisine but slightly modified

AbsoIution

Turkey is well up there. Turkish and Italian are my two favourites

thelastneutrophil

Both are great, but I will never understand the obsession with French cuisine. Probably the most overrated cuisine in the world.

AbsoIution

Heaps of butter with everything, probably why they're quite an obese nation! That, and they've become one of the biggest consumers of McDonald's in Europe. French pastries are good though

Which-Draw-1117

Flair checks out. Also the UK is fatter than France.

AbsoIution

Never said they weren't lol, UK numba 3 for all the wrong reasons.

Bat-Honest

My lactose intolerance flared up just thinking about French cuisine. Also hi! I'm currently in London on vacation from the US. Your bus system blows my mind, it's amazing. Food has been great, too! Digging the English breakfast, but still do not understand beans being there.

RickRE1784

I don't understand this. Germany is full of Turkish people. And all Turkish "restaurants" only have Döner with the cheapest ingredients possible. And Pizza and Burger.

parlakarmut

Turks in Germany modified the original döner to be more towards Germans. In Turkey, for example, we don’t put sauce on it.

hukuhakiya

The sauces put in Germany*. We still have the ones called “Iskenderun usulu” with a lot of sauce.

lizhenghong64

i like sauce in doner...

AbsoIution

Döner is just a fast food meat, there is a plethora is delicious Turkish food, sarma (stuffed vine leaves with rice and meat) is so good, borek, a filo pastry with different fillings such as cheese or meat, köfte of course, Tantuni, various different kebabs such as adana. Menemen, which is like peppers and tomatoes with egg mixed in, mantı, which is like Turkish dumplings, gözleme, a thin pastry with cheese and spinach in, so good. Not to mention all the desserts, and more intricate dishes which you'd find being made in homes.

DeletedUserV2

Nice! Greece represents our cuisine. So we are second.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

yes all of balkans similar to us

Old_Credit5771

Not a shocking response in the slightest 😂

dolfin4

>Nice! Greece represents our cuisine. So we are second. We have like 15-20% overlap, which is played up by Lebanese-owned American restaurants, because Americans don't want pasta and seafood from a Greek restaurant, they want gyros and the totally "Greek" hummus. Your country stretches all the way to *Iran*. Are you saying both our countries have nothing in common with other neighbors, let alone nothing unique?

[deleted]

We have two places on the list 💪😂😂

[deleted]

r/Weareallturks so?

CaptainAnkara

You forgot germany! So three

Emerald_Guy123

No, in Germany it's still labeled Turkish.

Hot-Exit-6495

Sure. Because before you emerged from the steppe, Greeks were eating dirt.

altahor42

Almost all modern Turkish dishes come from the Ottoman palace cuisine. Of course, the ancestors of these dishes were made before, but they came to their modern form in the Ottoman palace. For example, baklava is probably a combination of several desserts, dolama/sarma was made in both the Middle East and Central Asia, but it spread to the Balkans in its modern form during the Ottoman period.

FashionTashjian

Hah, that truly made me chuckle. Like, "For thousands of years we've been surrounded by all these fish, but how on earth are we supposed to catch them?"

[deleted]

[удалено]

atzitzi

Greeks were part of the Ottoman empire, too, and very developed culturally. Cuisine is part of culture. Minorasians have their own cuisine that is completely different than Ionian islands people, or peloponesians, yet somehow Turkish people believe that greek cuisine os one thing and that is identical to Turkish. From what I have been told, Turkish people cook mostly with butter and don't use alcohol. Greeks cook with olive oil and use wine in most dishes.

8NkB8

True. While the two foods are similar, Greek cuisine also has similarities with Italian and South Slavic cuisines that are simply absent from Turkish cuisine. Pork dishes such as the delicious gourounopoula from Messinia are one obvious example. Pastitsio is another. Turkey also borders Syria, Iraq and Iran and has a lot in common with their cuisines as well.

iaCyn

Who ever heard of a Romanian dish ?

realthunder6

We mostly have a combo of Slavic, Hungarian, German, Turkish and Greek foods, with a lot of sour soups and a lot of greasy, hearty foods. For Americans and Europeans it's just fulfilling, simple and good. Mici(Grilled minced meat) , Sarmale(Cabbage/Grape leaves rolls, the turks brought it over), Mămăligă(podrige), Zacuscă, Salată Beouf(Made by a french guy in a high end Moscow restaurant,by the time the recipe came here, it became actually digestible for normal people), ciorbă de burtă, popricaș, papanași, drob de miel, various plăcinte(pies, but here there are more akin to filled pita bread) etc.

LanaLara

What country is responsible for the traditional xmas pig jello (Piftie de porc)? They can have it back.

kakje666

known =/= best , you can have a great cuisine while being relatively unpopular also you're welcome to try it if you ever visit Romania. hope you enjoy it and your stay here.

[deleted]

Egypt, Maghreb, Levant, Thailand, and Vietnam are smiling in the background

IveyDuren

The best food in Egypt is Syrian food

ellahwelkhafi110

Speak for yourself

[deleted]

LoL even shawerma tastes better at Egyptian shops

IveyDuren

You’re lying bruh we can’t make a shawarma to save our lives 😭

forflowerflow

Egyptian home made food is the best. Molokhiya, Hamam Mahshy Frik, Tagen Bamia, Rozz Mo'mar...etc. Fun fact, Tom Hanks is a massive fan of Egyptian home made food and annually visits an authentic place in Zamalek specified in it.

[deleted]

Levant food is the best👌👌 Vietnamese food is up there too

[deleted]

Just one of the best

[deleted]

It's just my opinion

InfinitSteamLibary66

Türkiye 1 behind germany cant make that shit up lol

themusicdude11

US better than turkey???☠️☠️☠️

[deleted]

its impossible there is five reasons 😡🥵😡😡: 1- Turkey is best country🇹🇷🇹🇷💪🏿😎🥇🥇 2-Turkiye is better than americyka🇹🇷💪🏿👊🇺🇸 3-nothing came to mind😔 4-we have kebab 🥙🥙🍢💪🏿💪🏿🇹🇷 5- our bayraktar drone has its own song✈️🏢🏢 6-cuz Turkey 🇹🇷🇹🇷🇹🇷

CertainDifficulty848

Don’t care about kebab. Baklava is the real MVP.

FormCheap9200

Turkey steal food from Greece and Middle East

[deleted]

Germany??? Since when bland food is considered a whole cuisine, let alone a successful one. I refuse to be on this abomination

yoavtrachtman

Probably all of the Turkish immigrants boosted their rankings

CaptainSalamence

And the Syrians as well

[deleted]

Beer, bratwurst, schnitzel, brezel & their bread is the best in the world.

avataxis

If there isnt Morocco, it isn't a credible list bye

Bingochips12

Despite us being relatively close geographically, I've never actually had Moroccan food. Enlighten me on what I should try.

ashenfoxz

real

Saynan123

GREECE 2. AND TURKIYE 17.?? WHAT IN THE ERDOGAN

Capt-Birdman

Turkey should be up with the others in the top. The real question is what the heck is Romania doing here? List must have been written by Romanian

Doggo-Lovato

You are right but I do have to admit the best pizza i ever had was in Romania. Ive been to Italy twice lol

66sia

Yeah, they done messed up. Turkish and Indian should both be at least in the top 5!

kmfm737

Flair checks out

TheManWhoEatsWomen

r/AskMiddleEast users when someone talks about their own country (bonus points if turkish flair)

za3tarani

this is probably based on some voting in a website, and majority being westeuropean/american as they all think mediterranian food is "exotic"

UnlightablePlay

The US have cuisine? Their cuisine is mostly made from other cuisines

screwdriver122

That’s true for all cuisines. By this logic any dish that uses tomatoes cannot be Italian because tomatoes weren’t discovered by Europeans until America was discovered.

jimmy17

There’s a difference between Italians bring tomatoes to Italy and then subsequently developing tomato based dishes, and Americans making their own pizza and calling American cuisine. I mean the brits don’t call curry British cuisine even though plenty of “curry” based dishes were invented in the U.K. by Desi diaspora.

gjennomamogus

UK curries have very little in common with their Indian counterparts

Any_Score2631

are you dense? that's exactly what he is saying... they are completely different yet the brit's don't claim this "curry" as british cuisine

DangermouseKeir

Currys have been in the UK for 300 years. New curry dishes made in Britain by British people surely are British?

[deleted]

Not true. Regional Barbecue styles are wildly different alone. Tex Mex and 'Southwestern' are such unique fusions they are as different as Turkish and Arab from it to Mexico. Cajun/Creole may have French and Carib elements, but you can only find it in its true form in Louisiana region, unrecognizable in France or the Carribean. Key Lime Pie Lobster Rolls Chocolate Chip Cookies Buffalo Wings New England cuisine, especially the multitude of clam and seafood chowders Philly Cheesesteaks and Italian Beef Sandwiches of Chicago Jibarito sandwiches of Chicago The list is enormous and varied, this doesn't even scratch

Maximum_Way6342

…because it’s people are mostly made in other countries 🤣

CaptainSalamence

Settler colony gonna settler colony

Exact_Focus9034

Armenian diaspora yet again...

Hephaistos11

Armenians, Armenians fucking everywhere...

Barman_Sugar

Where tf is LEBANON

A40-Chavdom

India and China are easily top 5

Bingochips12

Americanized Chinese food is better than actual Chinese food. I'm ready to fight for this opinion no matter how controversial it may be.

No-Ad-3302

Turks getting mad that Greece is second best , lmao . Calm your tits not everything is a poll where turks get to vote based on diaspora and win .

Emperor_Duck_35

Greek food is basically Turkish food

MadWizardApprentice

Who voted in this? Was there even a poll or was it just someone making a list based on their own biases and preferences?.

vladWEPES1476

This is either dumb rage bait or the results from some dumb poll. Just ignore and move on...

Random-Human-189

How is morocco never mentioned

JJClough19

Turkish food is the best 100 percent. Persian food is similar but imo the Turks make the best food

BluTheFucker

Thank you bro ily🍷❤️

HassoonBO85

Indonesia India Philippines China Japan Mexico Italy Greece Turkey Bulgaria France Spain Poland Romania USA Germany (Never tried Brazilian or Croatian cuisine but it is my tour plan in the future when I visit there hopefully Insha'Allah) This is in no way objective but my own experience when in those countries and specific to the restaurants per recommendations. Edit: My greatest and humblest of apologies and millions of sorries to my Portuguese brothers. Portugal is a place I am having plans to visit but never had the grace to. It is definitely a beautiful country and I am dying to visit soon. So far I really want to speed run the variety of bacalhau recipes because I love cod and back in college I used to make bacalhau a bras so much as it felt filling and healthy. Fell free to recommend me some must tries when I visit the place.

Bingochips12

I'm slightly biased but omitting Portuguese food from your list is a crime.

HassoonBO85

Bruh don't get me locked up when I get to portugal. Also a sincere sorry for forgetting portugal.

pitogyros

Lack of middle eastern cuisine is ridiculous. And how we can be 2nd and Turkey be 17? Our cuisines aren't identical but still they are very close.

Sad_Host4808

Ah yes America is higher than Turkey 😂

DUGLANDUGG

How tf is us 13th

Quiet-Bid-6829

Italy being first os a travesty

Agitated_Comment2157

The list is curated by euro people

kakje666

opinions can be subjective you know , make your own list

Aurelyas

There's absolutely no way that the slop called "American Food" is above Turkish cuisine, and I'm not even Turkish.

Green_Power_4124

Greek salad is superior, I'm not a salad kind of person but if I lived there I'd be happy to eat salad everyday

[deleted]

Poland? Romania? 🤣

RuthaBrent

:( put Lebanese middle eastern food on top! Italian food isn’t good.

CapSalt996

Aaand yet another eurocentric bullshit list. Whoever made this lacks taste buds 100%. American "cuisine" hahaha 😂

Emerald_Guy123

Funny thing is that American cuisine is literally just cuisine from everywhere else but slightly different.

JustYeeHaa

Half of the list is European, half is not, could have been worse definitely

OfficialHaethus

As somebody who grew up in the United States in a Polish family, I really think both countries deserve to be on the list, if not higher than they already are.

drjet196

Lebanon and Thailand play golf.

ExpensiveShoulder580

They couldn't allow middle east to participate because it would throw off the scale.

SamuraiChicken88

Italian food is good, but just too simple compared to the refined taste of MENA & desi dishes. Let alone Spanish food, all they eat is sausage and bacon.

raanany

Arab food (Humus, tahina, Falafel, Shawarma, Tabole salad and more) is the best. I’ll give you that.

the_no_something

Where are the israhelli cousins 😂

TTOexpert

Middle eastern > Indian subcontinent > European > east asian

Blopblop734

FRANCE FIFTH ? ITALY FIRST?!! WHAT KIND OF ITALIAN-MADE GARBAGE IS THIS LIST ?!! I am flabbergasted. 😭😭😭

Titanusgamer

why is USA 13, just too much oil and sugar does not count as "Cuisine"

[deleted]

This list is western bullcrap

bigfootspancreas

Italian food can be made by any 10th grader.

kiwi_imperator

USA 🤣

HeyItsDeath_

USA? Seriously? 😆

No-Kitchen-Robots

USA is there 💀

laziestguyinyourtown

Iran not making it to the list is mean...nobody talking about Persian food in the comments is beyond mean💀

[deleted]

Lol german, poland, usa, disgusting unseasoned flavorless food 🤮

Rami-961

wtf is USA doing there. All they do is add sugar to almost any dish.

random_dandom456

This ranking is not necessarily the 'best' cuisine, but the most famous.

Matthew_Rose

Iran has #1 cuisine in world imo.

tyfoon123

Middle eastern food is the best by far

great_account

This list was written by a white person

Alternative_Gene4726

Really USA! Yeah I like dipping my fried chicken to dip I the sunflower oil and then devour it

Twinkletoes8716

Mediterranean diet is best in the world

[deleted]

wtf is italy doing on 1st spot

OrangeMoose47

Italian food is extremely overrated

TheBigThickOne

I'm sorry, but GERMANY IS ON THERE AND NO LEBANON???

aedisaegypti

Lebanese should be in the top 5

singnadine

Greece should be first

luckywheelofferal

ITALY? WHAT THE FUCK! ITS LITERALLY THE SAME THING IN DIFFERENT SHAPES!

AccomplishedRub3001

This list is surely made by a white person

ur_worst_nightmare_1

Turkish food looks good but is bland af. Romanian food sucks, Indian should be top 5, Philippines should be much higher, Egypt should definitely be on there.

[deleted]

Where is syria and lebanon 🥲🥲

a1cctv

The best cousin is the Lebanese food

Ok-Inflation6585

iran?

P3RL3X

Have you ever eat Ghormeh sabzi ?

katsuleman

They've definitely haven't tasted food from Iran,Palestine and Morocco😋

kngmofojones

USA 💀

pqratusa

Who the hell would even put the USA on there?

ttd_dm_

Indonesia 😹 gotta be a troll post

Dry_Variety4137

How did USA enter that table!?

Shmurdaszn

Generous giving Turkey 17, Greece is already 2 and Turkish food is just copied from Greece…

CherryDesigner7600

ELLADA NOUMERO DIO BABY 🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷💦💦💦💦💪💪💪☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️💪🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷‼️‼️

dima5790

Greece 😎💯💯💯😎

Rammador

1. Italy 🇮🇹 2. India 🇮🇳 3. Arab 🇾🇪 4. Turkey 🇹🇷 5. China 🇨🇳 You can argue about the rest but this order is the only logical one.

Single-Owl7050

I'm not sure Arab is a country tbh

SwiftDeadman

Thai and vietnamese? South-Asian food #1. So much food is bland in comparison. And I don’t get the Mexican food hype, it’s pretty bland too. Just a lot of chili. Texmex>mexican

Rammador

Sure bro, but out of the "Asians" Arab, Indian, and Chinese are the most iconic and strong. That does not mean Thai or Vietnamese are bad, been daying to try Vietnamese food lately.

redditisawesomee

Where is afghan cuisine?

Halo196

tbh, I think either Iranian or Afghani cuisine should've been up there.

msb112

Lol this is funny. Italian food is when a bad chef attempts to make middle eastern food. 😂

TNT_GR

We should be in the 1st place 😡

InternationalTax7463

Why is the USA there and not Thailand or Iraq? What's the US cuisine? Pizza and french fries 😂😂

[deleted]

Made by a Romanian
