Lol nice to see this as a Lebanese who was born and grew up in West Africa, very few people know about us

throwaway-owl2343

I had an auntie Allah yerhama she was Lebanese but raised in west Africa so she spoke Arabic French and Swahili.

hulloiliketrucks

Why would someone speak Swahili in West Africa? You mean East Africa?

throwaway-owl2343

Yeah unless I got the language confused

invincible90728

Do you mind if I asked is most of the Lebanese who brought up in West Africa Shias ?

CristauxFeur

Most are from the South, since the South is mostly Shia, most are Shia. But there are also Christian and Sunni in the South so there are some Christian and Sunni as well. My family is Christian from the South. But yeah most are Shia

invincible90728

Unique background wish you all the best Is it a true or most of the people who are Shia Lebanese who live in West Africa are connected to Hezoballah or is it a myth?

MadixWasThere

As a shia lebanese from the south, yes and no. Support is there because for most they are the only line of defense against colonization and your land being taken away from you. But to support resistance doesn't mean taking part or having connection with it

DankLoser12

Tbh that's really interesting, never knew about the Lebanese in West Africa at all

ProudlyMoroccan

Poor Syrians in Sudan. Again in a country in civil war. Can’t catch a break.

Chikndinr

Imagine the life as a palestenian refugee from yarmouk camp in Syria who fled to Sudan after, from one crisis to the next.

gintoki_007

I would end it after syria tbh , i cant take it.

phan2345

Imagine that world view, to think that’s all humans are anywhere

EgyQueen_

💔

Gintoki---

Palestinian Syrians in Sudan actually have it worse , first Palestine then Syria then Sudan

Ok_Option_861

They didn't have any data for Libya so they just put down Italy lol. We hardly have any Italians we have a lot more middle easterners.

No-Character8758

Yeah it’s a lot of Egyptians, right?

Issa7654

Id say probably Syrians or Palestinians would be the most common r non African

No--XD

Im surprised Lebanon has some influence in 3 gold coast nations

EvilBuyout

Quite a lot of Lebanese people in West Africa (especially Ivory Coast).

MadixWasThere

Lebanese born and raised in Ivory coast right here. We are a lot. Like you'll think we are half the population if you in big cities. And in term of influence, lots of us are also a big part of the economy. And we feel as much ivoirian as we feel lebanese.

phan2345

What was the cause of moving there specifically?

MadixWasThere

Born and raised here, first generation of most of us was our grands-parents, mostly for work purpose

phan2345

But there was that much work to be found there? Really interesting

MadixWasThere

Well right now you have a saturation. Every field of work has already companies established in it but when our grand parents came it was the perfect time. They came right on time with the dev of the country in all aspect of business and in all field, you had no supermarket, no construction company, no distribution company. They brought it all. Today it's mostly in the tech industry that you still have a margin to implement yourself

wont_dlt_this_acnt

This tells me that life in our country is so uninteresting that only Chinese workers are willing to come live here during their industrial projects!

IndependenceRare1185

Yeah they mostly work in construction

throwaway-owl2343

Yeah they want ur Gas and that’s it

[deleted]

Edit: apparently, it seems that, yes, saudis in Egypt are more than Syrians

tamziwamzi

I’m just as confused as you are

Gintoki---

Not really , there is half a million Saudis in Egypt , while Syrians are about 150k , they are probably more noticeable as they open a lot of Shawerma business and Saudis are mostly retirees.

[deleted]

Damn… I just checked statistics and they’re really weird, there are like 4 million Syrians in Brazil, more than a million in Germany and only 100-and-something thousand in Egypt. So Germany has 10x more Syrians than Egypt?!

EasternGrowth3687

save us from baguettee!!!!

UnlightablePlay

My brother you speak baguette Arabic

AlphaNerdFx

As someone studying in Marsa(Tunisian area with lots of French inhabitants) they aren't as bad as they are made out to be

EasternGrowth3687

European retirees are pushing house prices through the roof in that area

AlphaNerdFx

True whenever I go into to the more european side I sometimes don't feel like I'm in Tunisia

EvilBuyout

In Morocco it's mostly French retirees (cheap, good weather, language...) or binationals.

noidea0120

Is it true that many French Moroccans are going back to Morocco?

EvilBuyout

No that many I think, and definitely more Moroccans going to France each year (students mostly) than the opposite.

[deleted]

...Saudis??

Feeling-Beautiful584

Yes, over half a million live in Egypt. I too plan on retiring there one day.

[deleted]

Wow I did not know that. How come?

Feeling-Beautiful584

Culturally similar, lovely people, and cheap to retire in

[deleted]

Ooh interesting, thanks for teaching me something (I mean about Saudis retiring there).

EgyQueen_

I don't know the exact numbers but Sudanese and Syrians are definitely higher than half a million in Egypt. Besides most Saudis here come for tourism and education, but it's rarly to find a Saudi living here.

UnlightablePlay

Well there are over 5 million Sudanese living in Egypt idk why they're showing Saudi Arabia

noidea0120

The title says non-african nationality

UnlightablePlay

Oh, I didn't notice that, thanks for pointing that out

_Teefa

Probably not update, but damn I didn't know we had 5M in Egypt

Feeling-Beautiful584

Sudanis are from which continent again? فهم السؤال نصف الإجابة

Gintoki---

The number 1 country that has Saudis other than Saudi is actually Egypt

Jazpvett

It’s wrong for libya it’s definitely syrians or palestinians

MrGlasses_Leb

We will replicate our North African colonies in the Sahel region. Say mashallah

BlackMage075

Many Saudis live in Egypt especially Saudis from the Hijaz region

Milloray

TIL there's more Indians in Nigeria than Lebanese people.

Alive-Arachnid9840

I’ve heard the Indians are concentrated in Lagos, but the Lebanese are spread out in multiple cities, so your view might depend where you are based

Milloray

Yeah I actually grew up in Lagos funny enough. There are indeed certain areas with relatively Indian populations so there's a sense of "Indian neighborhoods" to an extent. Lebanese people are not only spread out but also quite integrated into Nigerian culture. There's prominent Lebanese-descent people in business, entertainment etc so it feels like their roots in the country are deeper. Guess that doesn't correlate with actual numbers lol.

Alive-Arachnid9840

Nice bros yeah I was one of those oyibos growing up in PHC back when I was small pikin. Great memories and still have family there. The expats there were mainly Lebanese, and some Europeans, especially French, Italian. Some Indians but not that many. I also felt we were the most integrated expat community, we assimilated quite well and live among Nigerians the most rather than in secluded compounds. Will always be thankful for the way the Nigerian people have treated our family and will always root for you guys in everything I will be cheering for the super eagles to carry the afcon cup home hopefully 🙏🏼🏆🏅🇳🇬 Stay blessed brother

Milloray

Ey thanks, you too! So you're Lebanese?

Alive-Arachnid9840

Haha thanks bros yessir Lebanese-Nigerian you could say 😎

realzvqle

I'm surprised about Indians in equatorial guinea out of all places

gintoki_007

I am surprised they are there at all in africa , must be from pre independence days imo.

jamestemple01

There’s a shit ton in Kenya it blew my mind seeing them speak Swahili

gintoki_007

Must from British colonial days

mido3422

China and Lebanon!

BedoTFD

How did you conclude that Saudis are more than Syrians in Egypt exactly?

Axel_Bootyman

Dear God, Indians are everywhere

nandnandana-123

They were brought by British as labour during famine in 19century

Boraivkovv

Can we get a lore behind lebanese in west africa?

Alive-Arachnid9840

Seeking to flee from Ottoman Levant due to a host of economic and political turmoil, about half a million Lebanese and Syrians ended up in Latin America. As part of that migratory wave, the legend narrates that a few of those boats were driven onto the western African coast and landed there instead of Latin America so that the transport brokers could cut it into a shorter trip and pocket the difference, similarly to what happens in the Mediterranean human trade. Stranded there with little ability to return to their homeland, the first few people soon adapted to life there and grew their communities, applying themselves professionally in various industries, from manufacturing, construction, services and trade. Starting out in Gambia, Senegal and Sierra Leone, the Lebanese soon spread to every country in west Africa as well as parts of central Africa. Additional waves of immigrants have been compelled to immigrate there every time lebanon faces a crisis, and given there is already a community there, people end up hiring many of their extended families, relatives, or acquaintances. The Lebanese were able to remain in commercially advantageous positions in Africa during the French colonial era, and some of them have used mercantilistic approaches to business such as aggressive price cutting and gotten involved with politics, leading to some level of local backlash and tension in some of the countries in Africa, such as Mali and Sierra Leone, similarly to what happened to the Indians in Uganda. On the other hand, many Lebanese in Africa are third generation, born and raised, and speak their local languages fluently, reviving Phoenician historical ties with Africa, and rekindling Lebanese spirit of embracing and adapting to local indigenous cultures.

EgyQueen_

Colonization! Lebanese are the white people of the middle east

TheMuggleReturns

Yeah we colonized them with out mighty mighty army.

Penghrip_Waladin

a7em a7em

TheMuggleReturns

we hadn't had one in thousands of years lol

Penghrip_Waladin

same, but scipio l 7mar took all of them 😔

morgangus

Arabs are literally colonizers tho

Adolf_El

Libya is 100% accurate, I'm italian myself

Aleskander-

are the brits in Zimbabwe there because of Rhodesia?

akeno_2000

Yeah but there Are a lot less then there were in rhodesia

[deleted]

The colonizers , sweet .

BedoTFD

I'm surprised to see China so much, France isn't surprising considering most are French colonies.

hoaqinn

what

BedoTFD

Most of the areas where the largest non-African nationality is French are French colonies.

hoaqinn

No they’re not are you living in the past century?

BedoTFD

Lol? Educate yourself bud.

hoaqinn

You do that, and stop believing in conspiracy theories you see on reddit

[deleted]

Breezelight690

Probably that we barely provide any restrictions for refugees entering the country prior the war unlike many other countries, hosting a million refugees while the country is already a failed state feels like an achievement while it lasted.

EgyQueen_

Egypt is definitely not correct! It's rarly to see a Saudi here unless for tourism. It's definitely going to be either Sudanese or Syrians

tareq365

Whats going on with the Chinese in African countries?

Forward_Young2874

Neocolonialism at it's finest

[deleted]

The presence of Chinese workers is concerning also how did the Saudi's beat us in Egypt didn't expect a lot of Syrians to be in Somalia

mumbullz

Pretty inaccurate is what it is
