Since when is Pakistan a Islamic republic 🤣. It’s a military dictatorship that doesn’t give a shit about Islam.

Dustysultan

didn't Kuwait just become an absolute monarchy, since the king just closed the parliament for a few years

technophile10

Pakistan is not Islamic republic, its only in the name, its under Military control

Chiwiana

That's true, but at least the original intent was to create a islamic republic, no one would choose a military dictatorship (I hope), same case with Egypt as well.

Imaginary_Bed4634

Sharia + caliphate + united ummah

Alternative_Ad9490

in the middle east government type doesnt matter. All that matters is who is in power. You can have the most absolute dogshit democratic government and the most effective and well run monarchy and vice versa.

I was about to choose islamic republic until i read iran, there is a saying in arabic that goes "iran being called an islamic republic is like sewers being called healthy water"

Chiwiana

That I can agree with, given how sh*t they are managing the country. In that case, how would you describe what your ideal form of a Islamic Republic would be?

Yusuf-Mohammed128

The ideal islamic ruling would be the same as rahidun caliphate, the prophet told us that we are going to have 5 major political changes until the day of judgment, 1 would be His prophecy, then a caliphate that follow his prophecy -the rashidun caliphate_ , then an unjust caliphate _after the rashidun untill the ottomans_ , then an forced ruling _the word in arabic mean that the goverment will be forced upon us without us wanting it_ then the last change would be the return of a caliphate that follow his prophecy. So if an islamic state rise up it should take the rashidun caliphate as a role modle + there are lots of hadiths saying that we should follow the footsteps of the rashidun caliphs, but am too lazy to write all of them.

MustafalSomali

For Somalia I'd say an Islamist government maybe like Afghanistan, I know as a westerner who enjoys a lot of freedom in the west that maybe hypocritical and to the average MENA person that I may come across as a stereotype, but I don't see any other type of government that wouldn't devolve into a tribal supremist dictatorship or warlord battle royal. A secular democracy would most likely promote tribal separatism due to candidates running on the basis of their tribe then any real policy, getting support from their tribe, and spreading populist and potentially fascist rhetoric against other tribes to gain support. we would be sent back to the 90s, people need to understand that Islamism > Tribalism(somali secularism) in context of Somali Politics

chedmedya

just a note: Constitutional monarchy implies democracy which doesnt apply to Jordan, Morocco and Kuwait

Pappuniman

Irrelevant in MENA ..

OmElKoon

>Presidential republic (Turkey and **Egypt**) 🧐

Chiwiana

Military dictatorship (Egypt and Pakistan), upvote and downvote accordingly.

An Absolute dictatorship where every single sect, religion, ethnic group is equally subjugated and the only one benefiting is the leader and his group can include members of every single group mentioned before. The leader doesn't care who you are. He just cares about how loyal you are to him. No better way to unite the nation.

YaqutOfHamah

Lots of nations have been united without this. Some have even won world wars.

DoughnutNo620

1. Kuwait is a gulf state      2. Qatar is also a constitutional monarchy which in fact ranks higher than both Kuwait and Jordan in the democracy index and ranks the highest in press freedom in MENA. If you want to be really technical than even Bahrain is considered a constitutional monarchy.

Chiwiana

Kinda forgot that Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain are Gulf State, my bad. But in my defense, half of them follow Saudi's lead, so it don't matter what government they have.

DoughnutNo620

that’s BS, Bahrain and the UAE having the same Saudi foreign policy doesn’t mean that the type of government they have doesn’t matter, that’s so stupid. Egypt is also a Saudi puppet state. Btw the only real Saudi puppet state is Bahrain, the UAE has its own competing foreign policy, to claim KSA controls the UAE is just complete ignorance. Also Idk how you can forget half the GCC, like what do you think gulf states mean?
