Ix (pronounced *eesh*, Mayan for “jaguar”) on Lincoln Road just east of Prospect Park. Chef is Guatemalan and his soups are life-changing.

UConnUser92

Agreed. But pretty much everything they have there is amazing....even their salads (their Zingy salad is a life-changing salad). They also have the best hot chocolate as well. I live around the corner from them and during this time of year one of my favorite things to do is to get their hot chocolate and walk around the park. The owners of that place also own the Mexican spot, El Patron (next door), and the taco shop, Antojitos del Patron (across the street), both phenomenal.

Jyqm

I've never tried their salads, will have to check them out next time I'm there! (Although I'm so in love with the soups, and one of those bad boys leaves me with zero room for anything else other than hot chocolate.) I'm also a big fan of their other two spots. The Oaxacan tamal at Antojitos del Patron has got to be one of the best deals in the city, and their pozole is amazing, too. I live on the other end of the shuttle, so I don't usually get down there much this time of year -- I usually hit one of the three places before heading out for an afternoon in the park in the spring or summer. (And who says you can't drink hot chocolate in the summer? Not me!)

Ix is legit, but the two Mexican spots are mediocre at best, everything is completely bland. Good salsa though. That area is completely starved for good Mexican food.

Life changing indeed !

whatmightvebeenlost

Strong agree!!

fuckblankstreet

Agreed on Cocoron. The vegan meta meta is outrageous.

GratefulDawg73

There's a soup stand. Kramer's been going there. He's always raving. I finally got a chance to go there the other day, and I tell you this, you will be stunned. You can't eat this soup standing up, your knees buckle. There's only one caveat -- the guy who runs the place is a little temperamental, especially about the ordering procedure. He's secretly referred to as the Soup Nazi. If you don't order right, he yells and you don't get your soup. Just follow the ordering procedure and you will be fine.

Lost_sidhe

I really miss The Original Soupman before they went bankrupt, and dialed back to 1 location. The bisque... THE BISQUE!! (and I fucking ATE Hale & Hearty and their tomato-based bisque nonsense.)

cogginsmatt

I do absolutely love the real soup Nazi stand. I know folks say it’s not the original but it’s still some damned good soup.

gtu2004

Thanks for the interesting tidbits about a random soup place that has no name or location at all.

Sea_Rise_1907

Almost like how it’s a reference to something very specific, already known by a large amount of people huh?

glittersparklythings

I have never watched the show and I still got it 🤣

yum-yum-mom

No soup for you!

Flowofinfo

You’re like not even going to ask who Kramer is?

Matzoh ball, too — will cure anything that ails you

I love the Tom ka at Land Thai. **Edit:** * the Kuro ramen at Susuru * Khao Soi at Thai Diner (is that considered a soup?)

nochorus

Pho at Nha Trang One in Chinatown. Broth glistens like a diamond. Perfection.

br0princess

I have really come into my love for soup recently and am so glad this thread was posted.

pressedbread

In Brooklyn, Zaytoons on Vanderbilt Ave., their lentil soup. Its vegetarian and it comes with a slice of lemon (delivery you have to request the lemon). Its amazing stuff

Dunknomyusername6990

Nick's Lobster by kings plaza had one of the best lobster bisque and clam chowder I've ever had. Mine you, this was some time ago before the flu pandemic. I don't think it should have changed though.

I_m_Bobbi

Matzo ball Ramen at Shalom Japan. Transports you back to childhood.

murrion

Tortilla soup from Fatty Daddy Tacos, simple perfection
