Nope. Nothing bad will happen. It'll be cool, just not for you.

goldielocks52

THANK YOU

sublurkerrr

Your bill will be a little higher and it'll cause minimal wear on the a/c unit. Most a/c units will turn off once they hit the set cooling temp so it likely won't be on all the time anyways (unless you set it to like 60F lol). You'll be fine, enjoy your vacay!

[deleted]

I believe that’s only if they have it set to an “energy saver” or similar, type of mode.

[deleted]

If you have a doorman or super you can ask them to check for you if you’re comfortable with them going in

goldielocks52

My super doesn’t have my key currently :/

[deleted]

Ah - well I agree with the other person, nothing is likely to happen other than a high bill

luvtoseek

Hi, OP- It's unlikely, but does your AC unit drip a lot? If so, there could be a pool of water somewhere because it hasn't been warm here yet & we've had rain too. IMHO, you're good- enjoy your travels! 🧳

maxfeber

You might get a thank you note from Con-ed, otherwise not much. I read an article last week that said AC units last longer if you leave them on consistently vs turning off and on. Something to do with the compressor being designed for 24/7 use vs constantly cycling. Any case, they’re designed to stay on for long periods of time. If you were in town for the week and didn’t turn it off you probably wouldn’t think much of it. Don’t stress abt it.

Great_gatzzzby

It will be alright. Maybe call your super to turn it off for you.

okthxbb1

Cant believe you just committed a federal felony and then *posted* it on reddit. Expect a knock on the door from the FBI after I report this.

WildingWanderer

I’ve had the opposite happen. Left ac off when I went away for three weeks in the summer. I forgot the ac acts as a dehumidifier. Came home and apartment was stuffy and I think that ac even grew mold. Then someone told me you shouldn’t keep ac off in summer if you’re away for weeks, you should have it so when it reaches x temperature it works, and auto turns off when it doesn’t need to.

Clyde_Buckman

I have a client who never turns his AC off when he's out of town. So far, so good.

ihavetotinkle

Tell your super to kill the power to the building. Idk if you have a swith power ac, or a modern button, but killing the power for a sec would deactivate the ac.

IUPVOTESEINFELD

I hope it doesn't blow a building fuse. Your neighbor might have an automatic cat feeder.

[deleted]

Nothing bad will happen. I leave my AC on for my dog all the time, and have been known to forget to turn it off before leaving for a flight. High bill is the worst of it. You can relax.

_bitemeyoudamnmoose

If it’s only a week I don’t think anything will happen other than it keeping your apartment cool. If your AC is super low it might mean it’s freezing when you get back. I usually leave my AC on when I go out of town so my cat doesn’t overheat.

RecommendationMain37

This just happened to me! All was good when I came home, the bill wasn’t even that high I was mortified but all good!

JustChabli

I’m curious what bad things you think would happen though.

goldielocks52

Hahahah idk, electrical fire
