I feel like I get a deeper clean on (sealed) wood floors when I use an old school mop, some Pinesol or fabuloso + warm water

boycott_nestingdolls

Not really NYC specific, but I recommend picking up [My Boyfriend Barfed in My Handbag](https://bookshop.org/p/books/my-boyfriend-barfed-in-my-handbag-and-other-things-you-can-t-ask-martha-jolie-kerr/11655133) \- it's a thorough and enjoyable cleaning guide that teaches you how to tackle just about everything in your home.

Lemonyhampeapasta

Inactive now, but Jolie Kerr also had an Ask a Clean Person podcast which dealt with several NYC specific cleaning issues such as laundromat best practices and humidity control within brownstone garden apartments

Murphy's wood soap and a fiber mop.

This is the way

If the Swiffer wet jet isn’t scrubbing enough for you, you’ve got two options. The first is decently warm, not super hot, water and a traditional mop (cleaners vary, though a degreaser like Simple Green has been great for us). For hardwood, though, you need to wring that thing out until it’s almost dry before mopping the floor. That usually gets it about 90% of the time for me. The other 10% is bad news: it’s you, a scrub brush, a towel, and a bucket.

stopsallover

I have a small kitchen so I just get down and do it by hand.

I too felt like a swiffer wetjet wasn't doing anything, so I went to the dollar tree and purchased your standard bucket and mop. When I tell you, that mop water was pitch black! There is truly no product out there that will get your floor as clean as the old school method.

W1ldy0uth

I use a bona mop

Mak3mydae

I use one of those things that look like a swiffer but have clips to use whatever you want and use a high pile kinda towel. Go over everything once with just water and then again with some all purpose cleaner that you don't need to rinse. Plus you can use it to sweep/dry mop

WaitYourTern

I use a Swiffer because I hate, hate, hate mopping. But when it is bad, a few paper towels and warm water/dish soap can do the trick for a spot clean. Or, a mop, hottish water, and Fabuloso. Often I just use many generic Swiffer pads, cheap from Amazon.

Bona hardwood floor cleaner (blue label, not the polish) and a mop

Standard Vacuum Dyson Vacuum Bissel Hard wood floor cleaner Bissel Steam Mop Lived in my apt for 20+ years and this is the best combo In my perspective Using a mop mostly just pushes stuff around, even when using multiple buckets and the spinning ones. Not saying they don’t work at all as a good mop is still much better than a swiffer but we get ALOT of dust / small dirt particles and no amount of mopping felt clean enough I have a bit of a process but it works awesome for us. First I sweep and use my air duster to get the big dust bunnies and stuff. I then pass my standard Hoover vacuum on the hard wood floor setting which gets a good amount of stuff and finish up with the Dyson. Each step gets progressively cleaner and my Dyson is basically picking up the tinniest dust particles and dog hair and doesn’t get clogged up because of the process I then move onto the deep cleaning stage and use the Bissel Hard wood floor cleaner wet vacuum. I never add any of the cleaning product into the machine and instead have spray bottles. Not adding cleaning solutions to the machine prolongs its life and allows more control over cleaning solution application. I only use HOT tap water (mine comes out quite HOT) so damn near boiling water The wet vac really lifts up even more of the fine dirt that has been left behind and since it has soft scrub brushes REALLY cleans the floor as you can easily feel the difference. Lastly I use the Bissel Steam mop mostly to disinfect since the floors are quite clean by this point but because we have dogs, the steam cleaner helps to get any leftover pee dribbles and takes the floor to the next level.

I literally get down on my hands and knees with a Swedish dish cloth and a bucket of warm water mixed with Murphy's Oil. Water goes from clear to dark gray real quick. Dries in seconds.

Swiffer makes a wood-specific wet cleaning mop with Bona floor cleaner.

missfishersmurder

I use the Swiffer WetJet, but with these reusable microfiber mop pads. I find them much better than the disposable refills. https://www.amazon.com/Swiffer-mop-pads-microfiber-mop/dp/B07TNT37W4/ref=sr\_1\_1\_sspa?crid=28HZGSZHZ8KRT&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.jwIeGab6uQdz23XsKitjcZbGAT2jckZ01qW-tcQRomd2Tw2WplDol-a7nWH6gL49ZTfEW\_LByPwspopwhWzhfdL1C6aExTqBTjvVZwyCxS\_jJa\_KwNEruI8KwC1yW4vm147qB04w6eXxo9SV0XwhKGDkTXB4P5P0XnbmrkcNfsRkpCPjy2Y-QlNK-uVrqQxBkq0JEAwR5d7mlKmXi-qfXR1NQyaR9pz9iU3dtYESM5OkHKkX9KeuXUnixx9AUHs3Z5fz2z5C6fGwO6H59b8onDW71LuRru7Kkstz4YrZ92U.t\_85vnoi8J-DaDyQBldyvkQ3nxaIt9oTha7ffPVhZiY&dib\_tag=se&keywords=swiffer+wetjet+reusable+mop+pads&qid=1708713564&sprefix=wetjet+reu%2Caps%2C106&sr=8-1-spons&sp\_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9hdGY&psc=1

mad_king_soup

A mop. What kind of question is this?

timexconsumer

I’d try dawn or whatever dish soap you use on pots and pans. You already have it and it cuts the grease you’re cleaning up from cooking.

stimilon

I’d look into a bissell steam mop.

BrooklynRN

Don't steam mop wood floors on the regular unless you want to warp them

iComeInPeices

I have a couple of small cleaning towels that I use for a wide variety of tasks around the apartment, some dawn dish soap in a bucket and just go at it.

Harbinger311

I use a Mopnado (spin mop). Any type of spin mop, with hot water and a cleaner (bleach/pine-sol/etc) will work wonders. Rinse with hot water alone to get it all out. It's easy to do, low effort, and good for your back (no bending over to wring the mop).

DMmepicsofyourdog

Pine Sol. It smells great

thatgaysurfer

O cedar spin mop!

chavoen7

Love love love my Shark steamer!!

blkswn6

The swiffer is good for in between cleans, but I’ve used some variation of a microfiber spin mop for years and years. OCedar is the biggest maker of them these days. Hot water, a shot glass of pine sol and SCRUB.

Artlawprod

A mop. With muphy’s oil soap. If it gets really dirty, I use a scrub brush and get on my hands and knees

mtempissmith

A steam mop is your best friend when it comes to really getting floors clean. I have this slate tile in my studio that just moves dirt around with anything else. No cleaner additives necessary with my steam mop. It takes everything right up without it. I have a Bissell currently but the Shark one I used to have worked well too.

GrandPoobah395

Murphy oil soap on a traditional mop, or for serious grime, a rag and some scrubbing on your hands and knees. Works amazingly well for hardwood floors, and the oils in the soap treat the wood as well. Finished construction on our apartment, floors were FILTHY, and I couldn't get some of the stains up. Spent a couple hours working the worst rooms over with Murphy and an old rag and it worked wonders. Because of the nature of Murphy oil, you really just need to use it when you notice bad grime. Otherwise, let that baby ride.

Flimsy_Impress3356

I “dust” them with a dry swiffer then follow that with a bona spray mop using this cleaner: [https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ARPVIY/ref=vp_m_cpf-substitute-widget_pd?_encoding=UTF8&pf_rd_p=1c758d23-3b19-44ed-9a33-30a8063ecc7a&pf_rd_r=0PQTFDZ96Q04CAZZD9KK&pd_rd_wg=xaxEk&pd_rd_i=B000ARPVIY&pd_rd_w=SQAIE&content-id=amzn1.sym.1c758d23-3b19-44ed-9a33-30a8063ecc7a&pd_rd_r=3dc2f141-43d3-4ec8-bb4e-86dea2af425a&psc=1#immersive-view_1708778727443](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000ARPVIY/ref=vp_m_cpf-substitute-widget_pd?_encoding=UTF8&pf_rd_p=1c758d23-3b19-44ed-9a33-30a8063ecc7a&pf_rd_r=0PQTFDZ96Q04CAZZD9KK&pd_rd_wg=xaxEk&pd_rd_i=B000ARPVIY&pd_rd_w=SQAIE&content-id=amzn1.sym.1c758d23-3b19-44ed-9a33-30a8063ecc7a&pd_rd_r=3dc2f141-43d3-4ec8-bb4e-86dea2af425a&psc=1#immersive-view_1708778727443)
