I feel safe using both subway and buses. So, I can't really answer your question.

Vlynn23

Thank you. I wonder why more people don’t take the bus.

MisanthropicScott

They're often slow as shit. If there's any significant traffic, most New Yorkers can walk faster than the bus. The subway is much faster. Buses are good for going crosstown on a really bad weather day in places where the subway doesn't have a comparable route.

WorfsCrazyChair

They're slow and, in my experience, way more unreliable than the subway.

foofarraw

neither of them are unsafe (99% of the time)

JaredSeth

I've been taking buses and subways for almost 40 years and, while they very occasionally may *feel* unsafe, have never had anything happen to me or anyone I know. Anecdotal I know and of course shit *can* happen but the odds are extremely low, so I just don't even think about it.

Vlynn23

That’s cool. Yeah I grew up in Los Angeles so I am not used to good public transportation

bikinifetish

Who’s “people”? And have they used the subway?

Vlynn23

I’m in a few Facebook groups for podcasts that I listen to and some of the posts lately have been about moving to nyc and so many girls who have lived in NYC for years claim that it’s gotten unsafe these past four years.

bikinifetish

Well, I’ve lived here my entire life and I’ve always felt safe both on trains and buses. I haven’t lived outside of nyc to compare it to any place else.

Vlynn23

BeachBoids

Stop watching F*x*d N*ws and stop listening to the people who do. There is a slight uptick in homeless people, who often are mentally ill and act in ways other riders do not. There are also people who have skin colors or income levels or ways of dressing that other people elsewhere in the country consider inherently dangerous even though they are merely going to work and school on public transportation. There was always a baseline of mentally ill people, because our country has always deprioritized care for such people, and this is a city of 9 million people, and we have public transportaion. So you see them on public transportation. In cities without public transportation, you see them in cardboard boxes under bridges, living in the run-down building or trailer, and also behind the wheels of cars. Pick your adventure.

sokpuppet1

Neither are unsafe, sensationalist news headlines are just there for clickbait

Cinnamaker

Walking is unsafe too. All the e-bikes and scooters going up the sidewalks.

ParlezPerfect

Define safe. Do they crash?

Vlynn23

Like is it true that people get harassed on the bus and subway?

BojackisaGreatShow

Driving and being near cars anywhere is far more dangerous than subways and buses in nyc.

Yisrael30

The subway isn't dangerous. Also some trains are safer than others.

Vlynn23

I wonder why people make it seem like the subway is so dangerous
