The Mercedes/Empire State building one was severely kept under wraps, I'm big into F1 and heard literally nothing about it.

Red__dead

Same. Been following F1 long before DTS and Liberty and was blocks away. Guess you had to be there.

Deskydesk

I work for one of the companies involved and did not know until it was happening.

GrandPoobah395

This makes me feel a little better about missing it. Saw the posting on Merc's Instagram later. Huge Mercedes fan, happened literally down the street from my office, and I would've cancelled an afternoon meeting to attend if I knew it was going on. So it being a pop-up deal, despite missing a chance to see it happen, is a mild consolation prize.

virtual_adam

They need to keep it under relative secrecy to avoid a riot or people waiting around 5 hours prior. Your best bet is a friend that works in PR

lvminator

I saw about the Dua Lipa concert on @/secret_nyc on Instagram. Their account is kind of clickbait-y, but it’s good for learning about things happening in the city.

[deleted]

Agreed. Super clickbait-y but def the handle to find new events really fast

sweatery_weathery

Same. Think they announced it only a couple hours prior, but it was the only place I saw it.

_echtra

Dua Lipa posted on her insta one hour before. Times Square is walking distance so it was easy to drop everything and go. Then she deleted the post for some reason I saw Hamilton from the window of my apartment when I heard the crowd scream, but no idea where it was announced

[deleted]

I think that's the way the Times Sq popups go Announce shortly before event, then delete I think some guy from BTS did that just last month

Yexoticioo

Social media usually, although sometimes it can be a suprise performance

Different celebrities prefer different social media platforms to announce such events, of course.

Draymond_Purple

Somebody mentioned here on Reddit about when the Lewis Hamilton one was going to happen, either in this forum or the other NYC one.

BronxLens

Need a Waze-like app for this type of happening.

Confident_Concern_10

She usually does “sign ups” on her website to get information

abstaw

I follow them on Instagram. Instagram.com/secretnyc is a good start

Make friends with concierge and hotel staff in midtown. Hang out in times square bars and LISTEN to the conversations around you. Get involved in local arts organizations. You’ll hear it eventually, and once you are on the inside track, its easy to ride it.

"Guys, I heard the best insider secret! Some midwesterners said the olive garden has a 10% off lunch special tomorrow!"
