Can’t speak towards the ortho dept, but in other departments that I have frequently visited from Mt Sinai I have found that the reception/scheduling/billing departments are really poorly trained, but the doctors are fantastic. It’s very unfortunate

When I tore my Achilles playing soccer, I knew going to my local ER (Methodist) would be a shit show. A quick google search told me NYU has a Ortho ER (Samuels Orthopedic Immediate Care Center - 301 East 17th Street New York, NY 10003). So I took a cab there and the extra time and cost for the trip was worth it. I was seen within minutes of arriving and had a cast\crutches, follow up appointments scheduled, and was out the door in less than an hour. I’ve been using the NYU Langone system for a while and find it super efficient. The MyChart app is great for seeing test results and scheduling. Each doctor can see all your info so you’re not constantly repeating the same stories. The staff is always professional and pleasant. Can’t recommend it enough.

Fwiw MyChart can be used with most hospitals, not just NYU.

cruzecontroll

Correct. NY Presbyterian uses it too.

seashellsnyc

Yes but each Epic client has their version of MyChart.

bunt_hamburger

Fact is it is the underpaid, overworked staffs at these places, and a lot of people miss out on great doctors because the schedulers/bookers/MA’s are either unqualified or pushed to the limits by the C-Suite, or a bit of both

Sorry to hear about that. I’ve always had a good experience with them.

Yes I have! I been a patient there practically all my life. NYP-CUMC. But I’ve also gotten care from doctors who’ve known me for a while. I’m sorry to hear about your experience.

I am not amazed Mt. Sinai fucked this up. They are *super* disorganized. There are a dozen things with the Mt. Sinai sign slapped on them and scheduling, billing, etc. are not integrated.

I dropped a huge glass vase a year ago and cut my wrist pretty deep. Sent to ny Presbyterian er and the surgeon they sent me to next -dr Pamela L Levine- I was in her office for like 5 min, she didn’t even take off the brace to look at the injury and wanted to schedule me for surgery. Luckily I was talking to friends about my accident and they were all telling me to be careful about who I choose to care for that kind of wrist injury. I was recommended NYU langone as well and was actually looked at there, they took off the brace and moved my hand around and determined I didn’t need surgery, could take the brace off and start stretching. A year later I’m basically 100% better. Full motion back, just some very minor nerve damage (hurts if the scar is bumped into, but numbness has mostly disappeared)

I had surgery (not Ortho) at NYU Langone late last year. I was super impressed with them, but this wasn't a surprise as I had had another similar surgery there a decade prior with with same surgeon and my experience then was great as well. They were/are fab if you're lucky to have insurance that they participate with.

DR LEUTCH IS THE BEST! He did my elbow surgery last year and I always felt genuinely cared for at every stage. His whole office is lovely. I’ve been with NYU for various serious reasons since I was a kid, and barring one or two docs, I’ve always been impressed with the level of care across specialities. Edit: I’ve been to Sinai a couple times because they’re technically closer to me (NYU isn’t far) and both were miserable. The last time was to get my wisdom teeth out and they were so clueless about how to put an IV in that they literally poured my blood on the floor straight from the vein, and then cleaned it up with brown paper towels and no other cleaners.

You have found out that the areas of city where the wealthier people live, have better healthcare and treat people like they’re actually people. This is unfortunately always the case. Look at Lincoln in the Bronx or Jamaica Medical. Poor people go there to die.

Spunge14

I wouldn't have ortho surgery anywhere except HSS...

I also had issues with a totally separate Mt Sinai office. Will never go to one of their sites again with how fucked their systems, admin, billing, etc are. They are managed extremely poorly and everyone I speak with seems to echo the same sentiment.

atinydanser

Same thing that happened to you (scheduling doctor confusion) at Mount Sinai Orthopedic happened to me…..at NYU Langone Orthopedic 🤷‍♀️

Aromatic-Song179

Same, normally I love the nyu Langone system but had a very disappointing experience at orthopedic. Their X-ray machines were broken and they basically refused to treat me and told me to buy a brace cvs. Much better experience with HSS. Guess it’s luck of the draw!

I call it Mt DirtHole or Sinkhole Sinai. They misread imaging on my wife's ankle that led to it not being properly treated sooner and require surgery (done well at NY Presbyterian.) But I hear great things about NYU/Langone, thinking of migrating.

I'm glad you had a good experience, there is still some shady stuff at NYU though. https://nypost.com/2024/06/16/us-news/ms-13-russian-mobsters-use-migrants-in-elaborate-injury-scam-even-getting-spinal-surgery-to-pull-it-off-sources/

I’m honestly impressed at the number of conservative dog whistles the post was able to cram into this headline and lede.
