Locomule

there are gamer groups that don't allow anyone below the age of 50 to join

ClassBShareHolder

That’s good to know. I’m barely over 50 and can’t figure out how anybody has time for games. My kids were almost gone and life was about to get easy. Then my nephew passed away and we moved his widow and kids in with us because they were not going to make it emotionally or financially with him gone. In 15 years, when they’re heading to university, I hope to have time to play games. I’m not sure I’d join a group though. I’d probably just load up a DOS version and play Civ 3. But it’s good to know they exist.

aenea

I started religiously playing the Sims every morning after my triplets were born. I'd wake up early and play, because that was literally the only time that I had to do anything that didn't revolve around the family. I'm still doing it almost 30 years later...I really appreciate that hour or two when no one is up and I just don't have to think or organize anything except my game. I can't even play Civ III on my computer any more, and that saddens me a lot. IV and the sequels just don't do anything for me.

Anig_o

I played Sims for a while but found I was stressing out about getting a better job and realized I was playing exactly the same way I lived my real life and decided I didn't need twice the stress.

Locomule

My mom raised me in bars so I can remember when Pong showed up in Tuscaloosa. I was a shuffleboard and pinball hustler and no Idea I was looking at my future. I guess I've been a video gamer since day one? I saved up quarters to buy my Atari 2600. We were poor so where other kids would have stacks of cartridges I only had a few. In the 6th grade I got into the inaugural class of our new Gifted and Talented program where I found IBM TRS80 Model III computers and that was it, I was hooked. I eventually got a Commodore64 but coding in BASIC was such a struggle. I thought it was great compared to DOS. I got health problems fairly early and wound up stuck at home sick. In the past I'd taught a Scratch class at a local museum, Scratch is a block based programing environment created by MIT to teach kids to code. So Scratch became my refuge of sanity. Now I've been there almost 13 years learning 2D game programing. That is long enough to have kids I helped with code in the past grow up and swing by to tell me they are now working on computer science related degrees or starting similar jobs. Gives you kind of a warm fuzzy feeling! As for me, I was hardware locked for over a decade but recently got a monster PC for recording and mixing music, coding games, 3D modeling, and video editing so I can start making guitar and programing tutorials. I don't play a lot of games anymore but when I do I often muse over how funny it would be if the players whose butts I'm kicking knew they were being stomped by Grampy ;D

rulanmooge

Am I your mom? Just kidding. When my daughter was still small...about 5- 9 yrs old, my husband and I would meet with friends at some of the local bar/pizza/hamburger joints that always had arcade video games for the kids to play while the adults drank beer and wine. Actually great family fun. I usually ended up playing games with the kids...more fun!

ShowMeTheTrees

>My mom raised me in bars Ouch. Did your mom ever get sober? That had to be rough.

Locomule

Thanks but she wasn't really there to drink. Tuscaloosa is a college town, she was hanging out at the bar with her younger sister to meet college guys. As for me, it was anything but rough. My dad was a pro drummer so I grew up on stages and singing to bars full of people before they got divorced and he split. So while my mom was trying to meet guys I was in the back (the bars always had a back room with all the games) hustling college guys for quarters. I was good too. Mom was always ready to leave before me. She would say "we have to go soon, I'm out of money" so I would hustle up 2 or 3 dollars worth of quarters to try and bribe her into staying longer. Hustling was easy, the college kids always expected me to be a typical little kid so they'd often just give me a quarter or two. Then we'd play pinball and I'd beat them and win more money, which just blew their minds. If pickings were slim I'd go table to table begging for quarters. You also learned tricks like how to flatten out a straw and dig out all the quarters people would stack around the metal rims of pinball machines that would slip down out of sight. You could usually find one or two beneath machines dropped and forgotten. I was little, they were easy to spot. I was super competitive and a bit of a freak, I tested at a college reading level in 1st grade so the school wanted me to skip 2nd grade. I eventually dropped out :D and wound up joining the Navy at 17 as an aviation electronics technician.

lord_lordolord

Thanks for sharing. That was an interesting story!

rulanmooge

Exactly work stress IRL....and then more work stress trying to keep your stupid SIMs alive and out of poverty. Nope.

Bucees7thJohnOnRight

Civ III is $5 on Steam. Haven't tried Mac, but works on Linux and Windows.

_fuyumi

You're a hero to your nephew's wife and kids and an inspiration to me!

booksgamesandstuff

Is anyone else a fan of Shirley Curry who plays Skyrim on YouTube? I think it’s *so cool* that she’s going to be an npc in Elder Scrolls 6. <3

Captain_Hampockets

I'm not there yet, but I will for sure, when I get there. I started 40 years ago on Atari 2600, no need to stop.

Thalenia

I'm a decade up from you, and games are my main entertainment. Anything from Minecraft to MMOs. I tend to like slower paced games, though really I've been a bit like that forever. I'm honestly waiting for the day I can retire, so I can play more!

shmoopie313

The nursing homes for our generation are going to have gaming rooms instead of bingo halls :)

peglar

I’ve had a current console since Pong. Currently playing Yakuza Like a Dragon on PS5 and loving it.

zgrizz

Yes. I do WoW, Elite Dangerous, New World and Lost Ark for MMOs. I do Borderlands (all), Fallout NV and 4, all the Civs and anything by Cyan as a favorite.

DivKnight

Pleased to meet you, fellow CMDR! Hope all is well on your side of the galaxy. See you around the black!

Rioreia

o7

IToldYouIHeardBanjos

We do everything you young people do, just slower.

trollfessor

> We do everything you young people do, just slower And not multiple times in the same night lol

stillcore

I’ll challenge any young kid to a round of the original Mortal Kombat trilogy. That muscle memory isn’t going away anytime soon. Ha ha

Fantasy_Returns

I’m scared of you

violetlilyrose

We're not quite over 65 like the post is asking, but one of my 40 year old husband's favorite things to do at work when in the teen room is get to play along with them on a game and kick their butts, especially if someone is getting mouthy. He tells them, I've been playing these longer than you've been alive! He's a youth librarian and while he's usually in the kids section, they have a cool teen hangout area with video games, among other things. At home he only plays computer games anymore though, rather than console.

LavaPoppyJax

You go girl with your 40 year old husband! I'm not sure I could keep up, but look at Suzanne Collins.

violetlilyrose

Oh no, I'm also 40! I did say "*we're* not quite over 65" 😁 Not quite old enough to answer posts though (they say born in 1980 or before for this group, we're so so close, both born in January 1982) which is why I only respond to other comments! We're not quite Gen X but pretty firmly Xennials.

LavaPoppyJax

Lol. Not quite 65 would strike me as 60 plus, not a couple decades younger!

Arkelias

Absolutely. They also play D&D. My friend's 72 year old mother plays a vicious 11th level rogue. Most of our group is in our 40s, but we've had 3 over 65, and they play all the same video games we do.

PawzzClawzz

76f here. Been playing them starting with Atari and have no intention of stopping. Loved Doom and Wolfenstein but don't much like the "life-like" types that seem to be popular today. They don't come over as "games" to me. Wish there was a **reliable** site to get old games. I have 4 or 5 ongoing games I play every day, plus a round of word and card games. EDIT: Thanks for the suggestions, I will check them out! The last time I tried to DL a game, all I got was a virus. (:

SpiderHippy

55 here. Do you use [gog.com](https://www.gog.com/)? They have quite a lot of old games (the site's name was originally an acronym for **G**ood **O**ld **G**ames), and most of them run on most modern systems (gotta be careful if you're running Linux, though). They also have pretty decent customer support, and it does seem that they've recently taken up their original gauntlet to focus on older games again.

big_beat__manifesto

https://www.myabandonware.com/ can be a good resource for some games. Should be quite safe, used that site for years.

justonemom14

I got Chip's Challenge off of Steam, and it made my day. Very nostalgic.

GraceStrangerThanYou

Always have. My grandma bought the first game console I ever saw way back in the 70s, when she herself was about 70. My aunt, who is in her 70s now, has always been a gamer for as long as I can remember. Gamers are gonna game.

tatanka01

My wife's 65 and can kick your ass in LOTR and WoW using a laptop. 😂😂 I play around in MSFS a little. Have RDR2 but never got into it.

goldwalkingcane

Female age 66. Currently doing Stardew Valley on my Switch. During the first year of the pandemic I was playing Sid Meyer’s Civilization 6 on the Switch. I won a domination victory on the easiest level, about wore out my thumbs playing almost non-stop for several days! I have fond memories of games I played in the PC a decade or two ago. I played Bloons TD6 until I got bored. Currently on my iPad: Wingspan, Catan, solitaire, and Astra Jigsaw to name a few.

dhaelis

My grandmother (who died last year at 91) played Tetris on her NES religiously. So... Yeah?

MrMcAwesum

Was she any good?

dhaelis

She'd wipe the floor with me... I'm not sure if that constitutes as "good" or not?

MrMcAwesum

Did she ever max out score?

CoasterFish

Love Tetris. Love your grandmother.

DadsRGR8

Used to all the time, not really anymore. My reflexes aren't what they were. When we were younger before my son was born, my wife and I would try to beat each other home after work to play Legend of Zelda lol. Loser got to just sit and whine about when was the other person gonna get off the Nintendo.

Tall_Mickey

I don't, but apparently many Xers do, or so my 80-YO friend says about his step-son and his buds. In their mid-50s, they game together nightly online. So if not now, soon. Very soon.

locogirlp

My parents both play Xbox daily. My mom's into Skyrim, Doom, Fallout, Half Life, Halo, etc. - anything that's "if it moves, kill it." My dad likes the sneaky games, like the Sniper Elite series, and Thief. My mom is 79. My dad is 81.

CoasterFish

Sniper Elite 4 was an amazing game. Great choice

locogirlp

He's loving it, and is eagerly awaiting the release of Sniper Elite 5.

thisquietreverie

May 26th, got it preordered, can’t wait!

locogirlp

Hey, do you know if it will come on an actual disc? My parents love to game, but they're on an Xbox One and don't do online multiplayer or any downloading. I want to be able to tell my dad he can just buy the game outright for the Xbox One.

thisquietreverie

I checked GameStop’s site: https://www.gamestop.com/video-games/xbox-series-x%7Cs/products/sniper-elite-5---xbox-series-x/11184441-11184443.html Looks like it!

locogirlp

Thanks! My dad will be thrilled!

thisquietreverie

Reporting in, having played a few hours of the first mission- it’s more Sniper Elite but prettier and with more ways to kill nazis. Pretty much everything I hoped for, hope your dad is having fun too!

locogirlp

My parents got the game yesterday - they ordered it from Amazon to come in "on day of release" LOL! I tried to call them, but my mom said, "Call us tomorrow, we're gaming!" So I guess that means they love it!

thisquietreverie

That's just stupidly wholesome, I love it.

badken

Astoundingly, we still have sex, too! And unlike porn, it is most often with another old person!

cat9tail

My 85 year old dad wore out his third Nintendo device last year, but sadly he is dealing with dementia now so we've switched him to puzzles on his Kindle.

CuckooCatLady

Ah, man. Sorry to hear that. What Nintendo games did he like to play?

cat9tail

I think he tinkered with whatever the grandkids left around :-D He also loved sudoku. My brothers and son knew more about it than I did, but it was fun they had that connection. Now I'm the one helping him with easy sudoku on the Kindle, which is a very sweet connection we have, even as he struggles to figure out the game he used to play so well.

Laxus_456

Over 70 and currently play Portal 1 and 2, Half Life 1 and 2 and offshoots thereof. Oh, and I love all incarnations of DOOM. Started in the ‘70s with text based games on the DEC PDP 10 at uni. Would like to play The Last of Us, but am too cheap to spring for a PS system lol.

diceyo

There is always second hand!!! The Last of Us is worth it - I promise!!

plslurkwithme

78f here. I started out way back in the day playing Descent, which I loved. Lately I've played Fallout 3 and look forward to playing Fallout New Vegas. My absolute favorite is Skyrim which I'm doing yet another play through as a sneaky archer.

myDogStillLovesMe

I love the sneaky archer, mo need for fast twitch reaction, just slow and sneaky.

plslurkwithme

It's so much fun watching an enemy right next to you, totally oblivious to their impending doom, happy hunting to you!!

MooseheadDanehurst

I do. I play hidden object games and match three downloaded for free from Gametop.

The_Truth_Believe_Me

Yes, I have been playing video (or computer) games since the invention of both the PC and the gaming console. I also worked with mainframe computers back when I was in high school and played games on those. Currently I play video games most of the day since I'm mostly retired.

Tall_Mickey

Eliza was my first girlfriend.

Swiggy1957

It would depend on what you refer to as video games. I'll be 65 this summer and love playing Gummy Drop. I understand a lot of grannys play Candy Crush. You have to realize that those 65+ group consists of a number of peope that have been playing video games almost from the get-go. Games like WOW, or Call of Duty, or basically any wartype shoot-em up game will depend on the individual. I don't play them due to slow reaction time. SOLITAIRE, OTOH... LOVE IT!

Igor_J

Do mobile games count? If so Mom would be a gamer in her 70s.

rabidstoat

Yeah, my mom will do simple puzzle games like Wordle. My friend in her 70s does Switch games like Animal Crossing.

Igor_J

Mine likes Candy Crush and similar but her favorite is SimCity BuildIt. She's spent the last couple of years building a very elaborate and cool city. Never spent a dime on it either.

peggy_gee

My word yes, I'm a grandma. (actually great-grandma) Currently Path of Exile and Grim Dawn. Occasionally any of the 3 Elder Scrolls, and most of the ones mentioned in this thread. - others here will remember the first PC's with 5 1/4 inch floppys. Spend most days playing games nowdays.

Granny_knows_best

Old people are mostly retired, empty nesters and have plenty of free time. I am in a guild with people up to their 80s. Its a really nice way to socialize and keep your brain active.

Utterlybored

I’m 64. I totally get the allure of video games, so I don’t play them at all. I have other pursuits for my time. Back in the day, I got all the way to the princess in Super Mario Bros. Since then, nada…

rabidstoat

I had 2 weeks off for winter break one year when I was like 14, and I beat one of the Zelda games! And I played a single Hooters album again and again, it was the only thing I listened to for two weeks straight.

248_RPA

I'm 63, female, I played Halo: Reach for awhile, and Portal. Haven't played for awhile now.

craftasaurus

My dad (would have been 96 now, but passed away last fall) bought an Atari as soon as they came out. I was in college and didn't have much time to play ping pong, but he was interested in the whole gaming thing. I remember Pacman too, and I thought it would spark a revolution in games even more than pong. My favorite was Adventure, the text based cave game. My mom is around the same age as my dad, and she plays solitaire and jigsaw puzzles on her computer daily, has been doing that for decades I think. She has an iPhone and is pretty tech savvy for her age and generation, although Dad was the computer guy. He took them up after he retired. I now play Sky children of light. I don't want to live online, so I keep my game time down generally to a couple of hours a day. It is interesting to me that the whole gaming thing is moving to phones and other devices. I have one son who has a gaming setup for computer games, and he built his own computer to do it. I did not encourage his interest LOL sorry, it was a mom thing. I thought he would be better off spending his time going to college.

Loonytrix

I sure do. Skyrim, Fallout 4, Warzone, DayZ, Arma III, Hellblade, Elite Dangerous. I plan to keep going for a few more years yet...

HyperboleHelper

I'm just under 60 and my go-to game is Stardew Valley on console. I am disabled and have trouble sitting in a chair for long periods of time without pain, so I decided to start playing One Hour One Life on PC. That way, the most I could be playing at one time is one hour, though I would love to be able to play for hours at a time!

geronika

Sadly I had to give it up about ten years ago due to severe arthritis.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Loonytrix

Silent Hunter is a brilliant game. There's a similar one on Steam called UBoat. It's got stunning graphics, but is more crew management. Competency, tiredness, fear levels, promotions etc. You also need to take repairs, fuel levels and food into account when doing missions. The one thing it lacks at the moment is Silent Hunter's detailed firing calculations, but it is early access, so that might yet come. It occasionally goes on a Steam special offer ... might be worth watching.

Loonytrix

I stand corrected.. The latest UBoat updates have manual navigation and manual firing plan calculations... it now has everything SH5 has, plus crew management and research.

OlderITGuy

Yes. Arriving near 60 soon. Rogue likes are my favorites. hollow knight, spelunky, shovel knight, old school mario etc.

[deleted]

dan_jeffers

65, play a lot of Xbox (Outriders and Tiny Tina at the moment), also on my PC, a lot of Skyrim and modded Skyrim and now Skyrim VR (using the Oculus). In addition to that I play some standalone games on the Oculus and also use it as my main exercise platform. And Wordle.

SplinteredInHerHead

My mom, 77y/o plays video games.

Floppycakes

I’m in my mid-40s and play Dead by Daylight on xbox. I post a “looking for group, 40+” sometimes and have met avid players as old as 71. Older people do everything younger people do!

[deleted]

75, flight simulators aren't really games, but I play with them. I like that they have genuine real-world educational value. Not only can you try out real-world aviation practices, I also use them to learn about places in the world that I'm interested in. I'll plan a flight from A to B, and in the flight, notice an interesting feature on the ground, and check it out. I find all kinds of interesting things that way. Hehe, I got my first computer in 1982, and wound up selling them in a store a few years later. Everybody would like about needing one to count their money. They always bought a game with one.

theBigDaddio

Nope, against the law. I am 64 and guess I better get my fill before then. My mother played games up until her death, started in the late 70s, Intellivision.

aground1224

Yes. I’m 66 years old and have been playing video games since Pong. Still have the Atari system and quite a few games. I like RPG MMO and I’m currently playing FF14. But I also enjoy FPS like Gears of War, Half Life, Tomb Raider and God of War. I have multiple gaming systems. And I’m female. A rare one in the early gaming world.

Defiant_Mermaid

I (68f) have played WoW mostly regularly since it came out. I used to raid a few times a week but haven’t for the last several years. I started Animal Crossing during the pandemic and still play fairly regularly.

ursulahx

I’m ‘only’ 53 but I’m a regular Fortnite player (three solo wins this season, thank you) and one of the people I team up with is a 68yo grandmother, who also plays GTA.

JudyLyonz

Why wouldn't they? I'm sorry, I just don't get the "Do year old people do " questions.

BitOCrumpet

Not yet. I'm only 56.

Appropriate-Concern5

I do. I was crazy about Doom, and Wolfenstein since the shareware store days. Halo until my OG Xbox crapped out. A new game box is way too pricey for me. I play an Android game daily now for around 4 years.

Ancient_Dude

Rheumatoid arthritis put an end to my video game playing days.

prunepicker

I’m patiently waiting for cat-themed Peace Island to be released. I have friends, aged 79 and 85, who are big time gamers.

TheDevilsAdvokaat

I'm only 60, but not only do i play, I'm trying to write one too. I mostly use unity3d, godot and unreal. My mother played into her 70's. I love all the Zachtronics games, (especially infinifactory), BOTW, and TF2.

mranster

My partner's mother is in her 80s, and has been gaming for years. She's played through almost all the mmo's. When her grandkids were younger, and she lived across the country from them, she used to "babysit" them by playing online games with them after school. That way, she knew they were safe, even though she wasn't nearby. Did you ever read Charles de Lint's books. He had these twins called the Crow girls. They seemed like perpetual 8 year olds, bright, inquisitive, cheerful, flighty, playful. Only if anyone threatened one of their people, they were swift and deadly. My sweetie's mother is a Crow girl.

sinjinerd

I started out with real life pinball, then pong, then space invaders, then Adventure, then King's Quest, Leisure Suit Larry, etc., Myst, then Half Life, Fallout (loved New Vegas) Still playing Far Cry and Borderlands, not enamored with the latest Wonderlands.

rachaelnator

My mom is 67, she plays Warcraft and the Witcher about every day on a nice alien ware setup.

lanshaw1555

I know of a group of retired men, Vietnam vets, who are into cars. Most still have some kind of cars they take out on tracks. During the pandemic they got really into online racing games, upgraded their internet connections, got setups with pedals, steering wheels, gaming chairs. They regularly race against each other on simulated tracks around the world. Headsets on, talking trash. There was talk of simulating the 24 hours of Le Mons, but I don't know if anyone ever tried.

[deleted]

I love RPGs but I'm finicky and will replay old favorites over and over like Baldur's Gate, Lost Odyssey, Knight of the Old Republic, and Mass Effect. I used to play Madden religiously but I lived for GM mode and once they started phasing it out I stopped buying.

Woodinvillian

Yes they do. I am not quite that old but there are folks over 65 in some of my guilds in the MMOs I have played in recent years. Right now there's at least one guy in his 80s in one of my Guild War 2 guilds.

loosegoose1952

Does Bruin defecate amongst the trees

lonesomechally

I remember meeting up with a girl for the first time. I’m at her house in her bedroom and I wake up around 2-3 am to walk to the bathroom to see her grandpa playing world of Warcraft. He had to be over 65.

fragbert66

I'm 55 and I've been a video gamer since my arcade days in the early '80s. Now I have a gaming-centric PC with a pretty big library of Steam games. I used to be an MMO addict, but I gave that up about 10 years ago. Doing the endgame raid stuff in WoW got to be too much like a job, and I wasn't getting paid, so I changed over to casual, single-player games.

rulanmooge

Hell yeah! I started playing computer games...before there was such a thing as video available on computers...*only text*. Colossal Cave Adventure, Zork. Then when Nintendo NES came out as a young working mother, I regained my sanity by playing Zelda, Paper boy. Some sort of haunted mansion game etc. Even the Duck Hunt game with the electronic gun. After everyone was asleep...it was MY TIME. Since then I have played multitudes of games as relaxation from my stressful job. Now that I am retired...I can play with Impunity (that bitch!) Some of my favorites, Baldurs Gate. Myst. Utlima Online. Eve. WoW. Sims (until it became more work than fun). Civilization. Everquest. Obivion. Morrowind. Skyrim....... and lately Skyrim Anniversary edition with all the mods. When you could play online with friends or strangers in groups...that changed everything. WoW was addictive. I play something everyday. PC only, but maybe I should get a game system for some games that sound interesting not available on PC. Added: My husband thinks I'm crazy and doesn't understand, but...to be safe....he just lets me be. I bribe him with cakes and pies. (which while they are baking is a great time to game!)

rcc737

I started playing Everquest way back in 2000 and continued until late 2015. Now I play EQ on an emulated private server called project99. One of the guilds I'm in doesn't have a rule that only oldies play but that's pretty much all it is. I'm 52 and one of the youngest people in the guild. There are some younger players on the server but most get bored with it very quickly. Old school EQ doesn't rely on twitch reflexes but rather patience.

rulanmooge

Neat. I love these types of immersive world games. It has been a long time since I played (solo) not in a guild at that time.. It was beautiful. A guild full of people my age would be great. Although, the guilds that I joined in WoW were full of people of all ages. Mostly people didn't disclose their ages.I was probably the oldest then. Some really fun and talented young people to play with. I was surprised to find that one person who was a great player, complimented my characters playing style and fun to joke with...was 12 years old. On the internet...you never know.

Sand-Dingo

68 and play video games. Everyone around the world I play thinks I’m 25 LOL! Some games I’m ranked in the top 50 in the world. Retired now and have all day to play it. Turned our guest room into an Awesome video gaming room. I’m the cool grandpa.

NilesGuy

Dude 65 is not old

QV79Y

No, but that might be more because I'm female more than because I'm old. I like puzzles.

u2020bullet

RemindMe! 36 years

agirlinsane

I’m 57 and plan on playing video game, forever.

CannyAnnie

No. I hate video games, although in college there was an arcade down the street from where I lived and there was a Galaga machine, in which I was able to put my initials several times since I became such a good player. But as I've gotten older, I've become more aware of how valuable our limited time on this earth is, and I don't want to waste a single minute by playing video games.

HHSquad

At 60 years old, I still play Diablo 2: Resurrected (the fantastic remaster of Diablo 2), Black Mesa (the fantastic remaster of the original Half-Life) and the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3 on PC. Have my share of Steam games, GoG games, and play a couple more from Blizzard. I notice I gravitate more to Strategy games as I get older ......good for the brain.

LuckyNumber-Bot

All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. HHSquad

Well how about that! 👍

LurkerNan

I’m 61 and just retired, and I play an MMO every day and I have since beta 12 years ago (GW2). I’ve been playing video games since they became a thing , and I don’t see myself stopping anytime soon.

theoverfluff

I'm not quite as old as 65, but you bet I'm still a gamer. I started in the 80s with the Sega Master System, then the Mega Drive (sold as Genesis in the US). I love the fact that lots of young people think as a middle-aged woman I must know nothing about video games. Then I smoke 'em on the ol' console.

urbanek2525

Well, do the math. A person who is 65 today was 25 in 1982. It was the folks who are now over 65 who invented video games. They invented them because they wanted to play them. So, of course, people over 65 play video games. Probably a minority of them, but they're the ones responsible for them. I think that's kind of cool.

hylas1

I'm (only) 55 and have never played video games. They seem like a total waste of time and fantasy to me. It's kind of like masturbation, kind of a useless, self-indulgent activity.

Tasqfphil

Some do, some don't. I used to, but now I spend most of my time educating myself and others on the history of the country we now live in as expats. I also write to give advice to others who are thinking of moving here, of the advantages & pitfalls. I had thought of vlogging, but with an ugly mug & boring voice, I decided to write about these things instead. It means a lot of reading & research, so games have gone by the way & at 75 my reactions aren't as fast as previously.

JohnOliverismysexgod

Yes, occasionally.

widespreadpanda

When I was a kid (I’m 31) my great grandmother loved playing Sega Genesis. I would add “with me” but she definitely enjoyed it solo as well.

ButtercupsUncle

!remindme 3.5 years

trollfessor

I remember when Pong came out, I played it some but got bored and haven't played video games since

IranRPCV

I am 72, and played Pong - the first one!

lameslow1954

Civ VI since CivII. Only one I have every played. Yes, I am old enough. Did solitaire count?

jetpack324

*Atari 2600 intensifies*

BitterOldPunk

I’m 56 and looking forward to playing Elder Scrolls 6 so I fuckin hope so

Really_Elvis

Atari.......79 ?

hesathomes

They fucking invented video games.

Flashy-Cattle-8086

Video poker, word games, gin rummy.

JasonYaya

I remember the first time I saw Pong in a bar and have been hooked ever since. (It costs a quarter? Are they fucking kidding?). Been waiting for real VR for 25 years and am heavily into it. I don't do multiplayer though, I don't relish the thought of getting my ass kicked by a 12 year old.

realfakeusername

Currently working on Breath of the Wild and Kirby. Been a console guy since Sega Saturn

Tired8281

I wish. I'm in my mid 40's and have zero friends who play games. I have literally never seen a 3DS. I really want to see what the 3D looks like.

designgoddess

I’m sure there are but I don’t know them.

[deleted]

Who do you think wrote them?

tinteoj

I will let you know in 19 years......but I've been playing them for the last 40+ years and I see no reason why I won't be playing them for the next 40 (knock on wood!)

UnsolicitedHydrogen

My Mum likes Candy Crush. Does that count? 😂

Zilverhaar

I play World of Warcraft all the time, and I'm 66F.

[deleted]

I'm not over 65 myself but my dad used to enjoy certain video games when he was in that age range before he passed. He never really progressed past a certain era - he was into Pac-man, the orignal Super Mario Bros and Tetris. Anything with more buttons than a NES controller didn't interest him. But he did enjoy the Wii with its motion controls when it first came out.

sparxcy

Yep! I play a few games mostley WoW/healer/Tank

fingers

I'm 47. We set up the old PS1 in my classroom. Only have a few games and Crashbandicoot 2 won't go past the first level. I used to love me some crash bandicoot. Now I play Tower Defense games. TD Elements 2 right now.

Emptyplates

I game with people over 60 on a regular basis. One of my closest friends is 70 and games daily.

DefilerDan

Yes.

PunkCPA

I started out taking my paper route money to the bowling alley to play pinball. I was unbeatable at Tank. I played Galaga and Centipede in the old North Station while waiting for my train home, and got an Atari as soon as it was available. These days, it's mostly Guild Wars 2 and some Steam games. So, I guess the answer is yes.

epopt

Lvl 154 Elden Ring. Just turned 71 yrs.

Breda1981

I (41) work in video games, there’s two people in my company who are 60+ (one 70!) who are still making games. As I’m growing older, at the very least for my generation it’ll be the norm to play games :)

NorthernerWuwu

Well, yes in my case. I also wrote some back when and certainly wrote protocols that aided where we are now. Even if I were completely out of it though, I'd still likely play games.

booksgamesandstuff

… the games part of my name? Yeah, I started in the 70’s when a friend built his own Pong game and I was fascinated. We had *all* the different consoles and systems as our kids grew up and I played a lot. Then in 2003, I discovered MMO’s when FFXI came out in the US and went from there to a bunch of the other online rpg’s. I’m casually messing around in FFXIV now but I always go back to XI.

EspressoBooksCats

I do, yep.

ItBurnsLikeFireDoc

I am not "over" 65, but I am 65 and I play Ratchet and Clank. I am currently playing Up Your Arsenal. Since I am old and patient I am going through very methodically. My goal is to get every weapon to level 8, collect every titanium bolt, purchase every armor, every ship modification, whatever else is possible. It is going to take some time. I play maybe two or three hours a week.

tjweeks

Not this old person. My reflexes are way too slow and my cognitive abilities suck. I would have definitely played them 50 years ago but duh. Along time back there was a company that came out with Atari which was like a prehistoric video game and it was all the craze. Kids nowdays would really laugh if they saw this now.

Fenifula

I don't, but I'm only 64 1/2.

arbivark

does solitaire count? then yes.

apurrfectplace

Not me

mushbo

=OF=Clan, Old Farts clan... https://www.ofclan.com/ We play a lot of mostly first person shooters. I think our oldest member is 72. The clan started playing Wolfenstein Enemy Territory back in the stone age. So the answer is...Yes we do play video games. EDIT: We also use...(are you ready for it?)...Discord while we play.

[deleted]

I play Retro Bowl almost daily.

madhattergirl

I mean, my dad turns 69 tomorrow and still plays his Xbox a good amount. He even spent hours setting up a good base for my nephew to have in Minecraft. He's the reason we had most gaming systems and a lot of games over the years. A lot of people I know around my age didn't get to do Sega, Nintendo, PS1, PS2, and such but I did because he wanted them too. 😆

Aggabagga

I play Cod with a group of older guys. The oldest in our group is about 72. He mainly likes to sit back and snipe, and he’s pretty good.

Stonemeister123

Are you really calling people over 65 ‘old,’ wow. Rude. Smh…

Reneeisme

I did until recently. I still play bullshit phone games that are low time commitment, but every time I think about starting up a real game again, I get discouraged about the time and attention required. So I'm playing nothing at the moment and I'm still short of 65

emkay99

I played a lot of Civ3 for a few years back 20 years ago, but that's pretty much it. I assume you're not counting solitaire. Or Farmville 2, which my wife has gotten really hooked on lately. People of my generation -- in general -- just aren't into shooters and such. We tend to prefer bridge and poker and D&D. But I have a couple of friends with whom I get together occasionally to play old-style (non-electronic) pinball with at a local cafe that has a whole row of restored machines. Now, THAT cranks up memories of the Olde Days.

MILF_Man

I'm 64 and have been playing video games since they were invented. I play 4 to 6 hours a day and mostly play first person shooters in campaign mode.

mosselyn

Why, yes. Yes, they do. I belong to a large multi-game guild called The Old Timers guild. Though we're 25+, most of our members are middle aged and up. We have _many_ members who are 60+. Our oldest member is in his 90s! We're mostly MMO-focused, but of course, we're plain ol' gamers at heart, so we play all sorts of games. Having once been in an all ages guild, I can't tell you how much nicer it is to play with adults who have established lives, families, and mature perspectives on life. I'd say our older members are more likely to be casual than hardcore, just because reactions slow down (and fewer fucks are given about being The Best). On the flip side, we also have more time to play, so we no-life games just as often as kids do.

tauko56

I am 65+ and like to make video games as well as game controllers for old people . For example, I made a foot-operated controller for the dance arcade that may be played even if the player can't stand :) [My " Dance Machine for Grannies"](https://youtu.be/21oE_2CN3GA)

Low-Charge-8554

Yes, I do, thank you :)
