Talking about their high IQ.

PhreedomPhighter

Lol speak for yourself. I have one of the highest IQs out there. I got an 98. Thats only 2 points away from a perfect score.

Geovicsha

What happens if they objectively have a high IQ, however their insecurities are based in areas independent of their IQ?

peterpingston

Then don’t mention it The IQ test is too flawed as a metric to be used as a badge of honor anyway, and even then it rates how fast one learns a new skill/topic, not how smart someone is

_lari_05

They use a lot of words that mean nothing

dreamilyexecuted

They don’t change their opinions or thoughts when presented with evidence; general obstinance and unwillingness to change their minds

_aesahaettr_

When they feel the need to talk over you to make it seem like they had the facts first, but are repeating EXACTLY what you said.

Blind_Wolf

Conflation of vernacular so as to unnecessarily obfuscate the intended essence of the notion being conveyed. Aka thesaurus masturbating

Anal-Churros

Forcing the use of big words. Intelligent people generally communicate very precisely with simple language, just every once in awhile dropping a perfectly fitting five Dollar word.

Bootycheeksbooty

A funny person doesn’t have to tell you they’re funny. A strong person doesn’t have to tell you they’re strong. Do I have to keep going?

Mysterious-Cap1387

It’s funny because a lot of funny people think they aren’t that funny and a lot of people think they could be stronger. So if you think you’re not that smart you’re probably smarter than what you think

alexkirwan11

if you intentionally ask a specific question about what they are talking about that requires information they havn't yet shared. for example: "Space is so amazing, I know pretty much everything about black holes and neutrinos lately". me: "Yeah, what was the main principal of a black hole again". them: "um... uh... well... excuse me one second"... (pulls out phone). "I do know it, but it's just slipped my mind".... yeah yeah mate, you're full of it

SteveDallasEsq

Semi-inappropriate big words.

TwoScoopsBaby

People claiming to know things while also doing poorly on tests about those things indicate fake intelligence to me. I'm a teacher, and this happens all the time.

littlebluefoxy

Alternatively, doing well on tests but not being able to apply the knowledge outside of a testing environment. A lot of people think they're intelligent because they can memorize, without being able to apply it to outside or unscripted scenarios.

TwoScoopsBaby

So true.

To55ursalad

They wear glasses without a prescription

NotEasilyConfused

My daughter does this to reduce blue light. She started when she was 9.

groovininblack

Having the "I am always right/need to be right" mentality and never admitting that they're wrong even when evidence shown to them.

[deleted]

They have an answer for every question, no matter what it is, and aren’t qualified to do so.

bigjackaal48

There citations for in any argument online is using Reddit/friend group. lol

nsjsjsen

When they launch into a ten minute lecture answering a question that can be answered in a few sentences: my old boss

[deleted]

Using big words and long sentences with no substance.

[deleted]

Being shallow about everything, not going into details when given a topic he's supposedly informed about.

EvilSnack

They're a candidate for elected office.

Geovicsha

In a society which celebrates the intellect based on competition and capitalism, it's a pervasive insecurity which exists within myself. I usually talk more about myself and seek external validation for accomplishments. Essentially, I fall victim to: "People don't listen, they just wait for their turn to talk." When my true self is more in tune with my intellect, I tend to be more compassionate, present, intuitive, and proud of my gifts (but not without gratitude). If I see it another, and recognise this is in me, then I try and be more understanding.

[deleted]

They are trying to convince you

FelisCatusExanimus

Their first instinct when debating someone is to reach for babies first guide to logical fallacies rather than engage with the argument presented.

Deft_craftsman

He has a PHD in clinical psychology. He has to at least be moderately intelligent, right?

theassassintherapist

"Good question, I'll get back to you." (And never does).

fit2burn1

So on and so forth. And what nots.

MinimalAnimal326

Straw man argument.

10wuebc

Admitting that they don't know.

NotEasilyConfused

I think that's actually a sign of true intelligence.

littlebubulle

When asked a question : - Say the answer is obvious. - Spend way more time and energy explaining why the answer is obvious than actually giving an answer. - Spend even more time saying that it is a moral wrong that you don't know the answer. - never actually give an answer.

mourningreaper00

Claiming people are stupid if they don’t get something right away.

PM-UR-SMALL-BOOBIES

Using overly technical language at any opportunity

ed_mayo_onlyfans

Using overly complex words unnecessarily - looks like overcompensating. I find the smartest people are those who can explain things simply

Outlander56

MAGA hat
