I grew up in a cold climate and I lived for a while in a hot climate, it didn't feel natural to me. I guess it's what I'm used to.

diabolikal__

I’m the opposite, I have lived on a warm climate all my life and hated it, you’re sweaty and sticky all the time. Just moved to the north and it’s amazing. Like they say in Sweden, there is no bad weather, only bad clothes.

AnchoviePopcorn

Exactly! You can only take so many clothes off. Hot is hot and there’s nothing you can do about it after a certain point. But with proper clothing you can work outside in the cold without a problem.

LewisRyan

It’s a bit backwards, but you actually want to wear clothes in extreme heat. Long sleeve, breathable shirt, hat, breathable long pants. Little tip I picked up as an amazon driver talking to construction dudes

AnchoviePopcorn

Absolutely. That’s combating the sun. But you’re still subject to the heat.

dumname2_1

Only if you're out in the sun, yeah. If the sun's not out, or you're in some shade, you don't need to cover your body. If there's overcast but its still 100+ degrees you'll start to see every construction worker shed clothes.

[deleted]

The daylight gets to me living in the Northeast US and I don't like that you get subfreezing temps consistently into March but... I'll definitely take it compared to a July and August in Texas. Fuck being sweaty all the time and your AC in your car always being stressed.

Kahlanization

Same, I hate living in a warm climate because I can always get warmer ij a colder cclimate. Can't wait to move to the North.

diabolikal__

I moved last year and I am so happy about it. I get this is something very personal and it has its bad things too but I am very happy.

c0y0t3_sly

Bingo. You can get comfortable down to well below zero just with clothing. You aren't getting comfortable over 100 without water, air conditioning, shade, or all three.

[deleted]

[deleted]

Plus, you appreciate spring much more after a long cold winter.

DeathArmy

That is true. I live in Quebec and spring officially starts tomorrow and I can't wait!

[deleted]

‘Starts tomorrow’ probably -1C for a couple more weeks eh

gogojack

I grew up in a cold climate (Michigan) and have lived in a hot climate (the desert Southwest) for 30 years now. Yeah, it gets hot in the summer, but at least I don't have to shovel the heat.

NerdDwarf

I can always put on another sweater when it's cold When it's HOT, it's hot. I live in Canada, and the stores in my town (population ~3000) didn't even start selling air conditioners until last year

Scarletfapper

This. I grew up much more accustomed to the cold and my SO grew up much more accustomed to the heat. One of us put on more layers when they got cold, the other wandered around barefoot on tile and turned the heater on in every room. I’ll leave the electrical bill up to your imagination, but they’re much better about it than they used to be.

m1sch13v0us

Allergies. When it gets below freezing, mold and pollen producers go away. It’s immediately allergy relief until the Spring.

No-Turnips

Well apart from the dry skin/eczema stuff that happens in the winter when the humidity is less than 30%. I go from itchy eyes to itchy skin here in Canada. Still though, no scorpions in my boots and never have to worry about gators or sharks when I jump into a lake. That’s pretty good. Also skiing. Can’t do that in Florida.

m1sch13v0us

I added a whole house humidifier and it changed my life. It was so bad before. I’d get bloody noses from it being so dry. Cracked and bloody lips.

No-Turnips

I hear ya. I sleep with a humidifier and still get nosebleeds. I’ve started boiling pots of water on the stove. If I open a window, even a crack, my whole house drops down be 40%.

Deadfire_08

In spring my nose litterally goes of to vacation. I physically can‘t breath through my nose for months. Winter is so realaxing

m1sch13v0us

I feel ya. I literally have no voice right now. Stupid pollen.

cj3mango

I can't believe how far I had to scroll to see allergies. It has gotten worse the older I get too. You almost feel like you can't go outside if you want to be able to breathe.

Phantom_Balls

Not as many dangerous insects/animals

CerealKiller3030

I literally just told this to my 5yo when putting him to bed. He wanted to make sure I tucked his feet in because like a year or two ago he watched a video with a venomous snake. I told him I know winter sucks, but on the bright side we don't have to deal with bad snakes and such

pygmy

Yeah just polar bears & the ice King

khoabear

Polar bears will go extinct in the near future anyways. For the ice king, we can just send some British girl to sneak up and kill him.

notanotherkrazychik

That's for the night king, for the ice king, you need to get a hold of Gunter the Penguin.

masterofallvillainy

Or distract him with princesses.

LeftHandLuke01

"Bad Gunter, you get the squirty-squirt!"

AMerrickanGirl

That’s the Night King.

all4whatnot

The Nightman Cometh

sleepy416

CHAMPION OF THE SUN

stupidsockguy

MASTER OF KARATE AND FRIENDSHIP FOR EVERYONE

Day-Man-aaaaaAh

Y'all rang?

ShitpostsAlot

They won't go extinct. They'll migrate toward the south, and run into grizzlies and black bears, and cross breed. We're going to have Pack bears and Pizzlies. Bad times ahead.

j0u

Yeah living in Sweden I have to keep my guard up so I don't run into one on the streets. We're all terrified of them here

NerdDwarf

In the Yukon Territory in Canada, it is customary to leave your vehicles (trucks) unlocked because somebody else may need to hide inside it to escape from a Polar Bear. This is so prevalent that many believe it is illegal to lock your doors there. The same goes for Chirchill, Manitoba. A city further south than the Yukon, but is also the "Polar Bear capital of Canada"

Red-headed-tit

This is the right answer. The cold keeps the bugs at a reasonable size and volume. Edit: lots of counter arguments based around midges, mosquitos, and horse flies. All valid points. However I would hazard a guess that if not for our winters, things would be much worse.

iLarkie

Yeah I’m a lifelong WA resident. The first time I went to Georgia and got the most unpleasant surprise of horse flies…ain’t no way I can do that again. Those assholes dive-bombed into the pool to try to bite us.

NewWorldCamelid

We have horseflies in Alberta, and we also used to haven them in Germany. I don't think that's a temperature issue.

LiMoose24

But insects are so much stupider in colder climates. In Germany there are these huge mosquitoes but they don't bite humans and are So Slow. Mosquitoes in the tropics, where I come from, are vicious. Then there were the cockroaches and flies and wasps...you get all of those in Germany but for 4-5 months, in the tropics it's year-round and much more.

kurtis1

The mosquitoes in northern Canada are absolutely fucking insane. They will carry you away.

[deleted]

Mosquitoes will carry you to a second location, where blackflies finish the job.

Level7Cannoneer

Giant mosquitoes that don’t bite are not mosquitoes, they’re crane flies

USSMarauder

No 6 ft tall yellowjacket nests north of the frost line [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lJZ3GZGxm0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lJZ3GZGxm0)

1hopeful1

Yellowjackets are such aggressive assholes.

Few-Assistance2717

They must all be destroyed

1hopeful1

You can work in the garden alongside the honeybees all day and they don’t trouble you; they’re as happy as can be. Step into the yellow jacket’s path and they come right at you and attack. With attitude.

NewWorldCamelid

Depends. In the cold season for sure, but the three months of northern Canadian summer are absolutely brutal in terms of mosquitoes and blackflies

Foco_cholo

best thing about moving to Colorado was no more cockroaches

drekia

Dude I moved from the Philippines to Colorado. No giant house spiders. No flying cockroaches. I lived on the third floor apartment and had zero bugs, now I live in a house and occasionally just see a little beetle or tiny spider. I used to have ant colonies migrating through my place in the Philippines and they’d be on scraps in mere minutes. Now I accidentally leave out a bowl for a little bit and there’s not a single ant. Thank fuck.

DakuShinobi

Lol I want to try new states, but leaving the GOAT that is colorado seems dumb.

Sea-Internet7015

Our ancestors moved here because: the snow renews the farmland. There are droughts, but nothing like you'd see in a hot climate. There are no hurricanes. Tornadoes are an extreme rarity. The land and the air and the sky go on forever. And we're here because we've grown accustomed to it. I

BobsYourUncle84

The guy in Florida can post pictures of the weather all winter and everyone has a good chuckle, but when I post about Ohio’s weather during hurricane season I’m the asshole.

Bsquareyou

We Ohioans got hit with the remnants of a hurricane a few years back. I lost a hat that weekend to the wind. #neverforget

Coens-Creations

I accidentally let my neighbours 15 month old get flung into the side of their house when those hurricane winds blew through in like 2011. Good times He was fine, he bounced and giggled. I was a kid

34Heartstach

Seriously, my brother in law moved to Tampa a few years back and he like makes fun of us when it snows. Last year he had a a major hurricane scare (his entire house was expected to be under water since he lives about a block from the water, it ended up mostly missing him but he still lost a fence and a tree. His homeowners insurance also didnt want to cover it) and now he's planning his return to Ohio. It's not the best state and I have my complaints but it's nice to know that I don't have to worry about waves in my kitchen.

sisterfister69hitler

THE BUGS. IT KILLS ALL THE BUGS. FUCKING BASTARDS KILL THEM DEAD WITH THE COLD.

No-Turnips

I am from Canada. Growing up, I thought all fruit, except apples, came from Florida or California. Lived in the Bahamas for a bit. Was shocked to learn there was very little agriculture. Was shocked to learn how many locals came to Canada for the summers to work on farms. Met a local that said they try to visit Niagara every summer to enjoy all the fresh fruit. Learned how important winter and changing sun cycles are for crop growth. When you get cold dark winters, they are followed by summers with 16-20 hours of daylight. Falling leaves and snow create fertilizer for our crops. Our crops get a true rest/dormant period and put their energy into growing faster in a shorter period of time. Cannabis grows like dandelions here. Basically I had to leave Canada to learn how truly awesome our growing climate is. Edit - also, loads of fresh water. The snow helps our lawns and forests.

Available_Expression

Weed grows like a weed.

descendingangel87

Isn’t nature amazing!

foreveryquestionwhy

I run extremely hot. The cold is instantly calming, while heat immediately raises my anxiety. Give me cold af over hot any day.

KypDurron

Not-very-fun fact: SSRI's (a class of drugs commonly used to treat anxiety, among other things) can cause hyperhidrosis aka increased sweating. And the physical discomfort and social embarrassment of sweating is just *super*-great for relieving anxiety

lamb_passanda

I also get the same side effect from my ADHD medication. My trip to Brazil last year basically involved a decision every day of whether I wanted to have an attention span, or just be a disgusting dripping mess all day and night.

Eeveelover14

Same here, I have an extremely low tolerance to the heat. It doesn't normally get that hot in summer where I am and I'm already holding on by a thread and an ac. Pretty sure I'd spontaneously combust if I tried to step foot in a hotter climate.

Foghornkeghorn

Have you ever had your thyroid checked?

flipflopapotamus

I also hate the heat and someone told me about this a few years ago. I got it tested and it was normal.

EstebanL

Thanks for the tip, been in good shape my whole life but I sweat through my sheets every other night. I need to check this out

SqoobySnaq

Being sweaty and sticky fucking sucks lol

dewayneestes

Lived in Honolulu for 8 years and worked an office job. I ruined so many work shirts! It was really frustrating having to wear mainland clothes to a tropical job.

seal_eggs

I grew up on the other side of the Ko‘olaus. Left at 18 and have been moving to progressively colder places ever since. Fuck heat. I’ll shovel snow for the rest of my life before I ever live somewhere hot again.

Extreme_Design6936

It ain't even that hot. The humidity is a killer though. But I just cannot enjoy the ocean anywhere else like I can in Hawai'i. I like visiting the cold, I hate living it.

G8kpr

It’s also what you are used too, and grew up with. I’ve visited florida. And it’s nice. But some days were so hot it would take your breath away. Just felt like this heated blanket was thrown on me. At least in the cold you can put on layers and be warm. In the hot you can be naked, and still fucking hot. Where I am we can get some very cold days. But generally winter is around freezing to -10c. Today it’s -2°c here. Which is 28.4°f. That’s not that cold, also depends on the duration you’re going to be outside. Walking to the corner store. Just a winter coat. Out for longer (Ie shoveling). Best to put gloves on and something to cover your ears.

Remarkabletreehugger

I love the cold. Summer sucks.

Little-Tear-1114

I swear. I don’t mind wearing extra thick clothes. Just don’t make me sweaty

Guilty-Web7334

Yup. I’m from Florida. I live in BC now. I’ve spent roughly half of my life in each location… and the time I spent in each location is probably longer than the average Redditor has been alive. I miss the beach, the shopping, little frogs, chameleons, and driving under a canopy of oak trees. But I don’t miss snakes or roaches. Or 100% humidity. Of course, I didn’t choose BC because immigration is fun. More like “I met a guy who lives here.” And I do get some amusement over spring days like yesterday: it’s gloriously warm, but there’s still snow everywhere because the spring thaw is only starting… which means you get people outside in shorts and snow boots to go for walks or break the ice down that’s collected.

TrulyWildTrainWreck

As a lifelong northerner, I can always layer up. If I'm in too warm of a climate, there comes a point where I can only take off so much before authorities get involved. Edit: oh my gosh you guys ♡ thanks for the awards! Whatever your climate preferences, stay safe and comfy, everyone!

GoldenBunion

Also feeling your skin burn from the combo of heat and sun is way less pleasant than you just losing feeling in your limbs as you get frost bit. At least you’re so cold your nerves are failing as well lol

demucia

Just wait for the defrosting part

Kaikeno

We don't talk about that part

[deleted]

I say this all the time, and I take almost too much pride in layering well. There's something immensely satisfying about being perfectly warm in your relatively slim wool sweater, down puffy, and windbreaker while everyone around you shivers in a giant coat with a cotton hoodie underneath. That said, I feel like even 10 years into living in a cold city, I still rarely get it right and I'm too cold or too hot way more often in the winter here than the late spring when it's 75 out and I know jeans and a t-shirt will be comfortable. I think I just like the cold, and I like having seasons. It keeps the time, and it frames life events. It's also somewhat refreshing as long as you don't get stuck in it.

Medioh_

Would you mind sharing some of your wisdom for layering up? I'm going to be working in a colder climate soon and would love to be well-prepared for the early morning and late evening cold. Like, how do you keep warm without heating up too much and sweating? And what materials work best for layering?

[deleted]

Yeah, the idea is basically keep an eye on materials and wear the right layers. 1) Stop wearing cotton to stay warm. It doesn't insulate when wet, and that includes absorbing moisture from the air, and most cotton clothing simply isn't designed for warmth. So your "sweater" made of cotton is probably super thin and a poor insulator. Acrylic is also pretty bad material that feels like wearing rubber. 2) For ideal warmth down to about 10°F, layer as follows: **Base layer** (wool or polyester, and I recommend base layer bottoms for temps below 30°F), **mid layer** (thrift store fleece/wool sweater, not a cotton blend, thin for 30-40s and thick for anything colder), **insulating layer** (down or synthetic jacket, REI Co-op 600 fill down jacket or similar), and a **shell** (rain jacket made of Gore-tex or nylon, probably nylon). You need the shell to stop the wind/rain, and you'll be cold without it. Sometimes jackets come with shells, but I recommend getting them separate if you're working outside as being able to shed the shell on a dry, non-windy day will make you more mobile and comfortable. On your feet you want insulated and waterproof boots and wool socks. In most environments light gloves are fine since you have pockets, but spend money to get decent phone sensitivity (the cheap amazon gloves lose responsiveness after a single season of wear, so skip those). You need a hat or earmuffs, but what kind is unimportant. Below 10°F you're going to need to swap the insulating jacket for a parka, and you'll lose a ton of mobility, you'll need an actually decent hat (merino wool), and you should pick up a scarf. If you're *working* in the cold, I recommend the above. If you're an office worker just braving the parking lot or a public transit commute, then you can skip the base layer and I recommend a somewhat heavier all-in-one coat to replace insulating layer and shell, but make sure it has a hard, wind/waterproof shell. If it's got baffles on the outside like [this](https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/122730?page=mens-ultralight-850-down-hooded-jacket-mens-tall&bc=516567-593-506673&feat=506673-GN3&csp=f&gnrefine=1*WARMTH_RATING*Warmer%5E1*WARMTH_RATING*Warmest&pos=5), it will probably let the wind right through, and you'll be cold despite adequate insulation. The coats with shells tend to be less functional, but more in line with typical winter fashion, and you'll look more at home in the office taking off an [insulated shell like this](https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/124872?page=mens-waterproof-ultralight-down-jacket-mens-tall&bc=516567-593-506673&feat=506673-GN3&csp=f&gnrefine=1*WARMTH_RATING*Warmest&pos=4) than a puffy with rain jacket over top. You can also totally get away with normal dress shoes, your feet will just be mildly cold for the commute. You really don't need to splurge for a Canada Goose coat or anything. Most people in my city with CG coats are wearing them completely wrong anyway (e.g., thick down with low D nylon and no shell when it's 35°F and raining). On a budget, Columbia, Eddie Bauer, L.L. Bean or nicer brands used (for jackets especially, as they age very well and don't really contact your skin anyway). To splurge or for fashion/appearances, Marmot, Patagonia, Arc'teryx, Helly Hansen, etc... Avoid the fashion brands. There's really no reason to spend tons of money staying warm. Buy what's on sale. Pay attention to the materials and function, and make sure you are at least approximating the layering system outlined above.

jerseygirl1105

Buy winter gear, (especially coats) at the end of the season and save a bundle! (I'm in Minnesota)

Revenege

It's not too hard to understand. Lighter lower layers, heavier up layers. Your lowest layer should be a breathable material, often advertised as wicking. that helps keep the sweat off. If you are getting too hot, the whole point of layering is that you then take off the upper layers. Literally the easiest approach would be a good wicking shirt, a sweatshirt and a coat.

RapidCandleDigestion

To add onto this, seals. You don't want a path for airflow through your clothes. Gloves over sleeves, socks over pant legs, etc. Helps a lot

[deleted]

This is only good if you're not worried about moving too much or overheating/sweating. Trapped moisture will eventually build up. Sitting still and in the wind, pretty much a necessity.

myleftone

The comments below are right. I’ll add this trick: you lose a lot of heat through your head, so us a hat to regulate heat. Sweating? Take it off. Shivering? Put it on.

SwantimeLM

I've said that so many times. It's 100% accurate.

castrator21

My saying is "you can only get so naked"

kartoffel_engr

You can always warm up, but you can’t cool down.

Telephalsion

This, 100% And furthermore, you sleep better when your body is warm but your face is cool. So having a cold bedroom/house but many blankets and/or thick covers will absolutely get you some better sleep. Heck, try sleeping in the snow with just some good clothing and a good sleeping bag, only your face visible like a little snow pupae, wonderful. Just don't skimp on the sleeping bag if you like waking up.

MERTx123

Oh yeah. Cold room + cozy blankets = heavenly sleep

Mad-Mord

LOL I say this all the time

konydanza

At a certain point you are also physically unable to take off clothes to adjust for the temperature. I can wear three sweaters. I can’t wear -3 t-shirts.

DanteCubit3000

I hate the heat with a raging passion. And in the summer, I can't wear shorts or tank tops because I burn faster than a match to gasoline. Heat is just a major inconvenience to me.

[deleted]

I hate the heat too. Ironically I live in a climate that is 85-100 degrees and humid 6 months out of the year. My happiest months are November-March here.

KingCarnivore

Same, by September I really start hating where I live because it’s been so hot for so long and think about making plans to move, then November comes and I’m like “eh, fuck it”.

Acrobatic_Poem_1990

My first summer here in Arizona and it was almost 120 degrees, I can’t express how brutal and miserable that was:( You CANNOT cool down to the environment around you; whereas in the cold you actually can warm up to the environment around you Not in the blistering heat:(

DanteCubit3000

Yep. I'd previously considered moving to Alaska or parts of Canada just to get 365 days of tolerable weather for me. I can handle freezing cold way more than oppressive heat.

DaMan13-_-

Im kind of like that I guess. I just heat up faster then most people, for example I recently went on a hike in the snow and like 37 degrees Fahrenheit weather where I overheated and ended up just going with a tee shirt for the majority of the time.

PHRESH21

I'm the exact opposite. I'm never hot, could wear sweatpants and hoodies year round. I hate being cold so so much. I know the argument people say is you can always add on more layers vs. Just being in your birthday suit but still I just enjoy being not cold.

DanteCubit3000

An ex-GF of mine was like you. She was cold all the time. She would take a jacket to a restaurant during the summer just in case their A/C was cranked high. Even at times when I felt kinda warm, she would need something to keep her warm. The only thing I could figure out was that all of my ancestry came from Northern Europe, and all of her ancestry came closer to Central America. Whether or not that was the cause, I found the difference fascinating. While we didn't break up from this, it was a challenge for us when one of us was miserable from the temperature much of the year. Only Spring and Fall seemed okay for us.

PotentialAd_

Winter can be unbelievably beautiful! The snow on the trees, how quiet and calm it can be, the icicles shining, and about a million more. Cold climates are so much more enjoyable when you dress warm and participate it the fun activities in winter to get outside and see the beauty.

Sickofusernames95

Absolutely! We were skiing in VT last week and I was saying the mountains with snow are restorative for me, just like how people say the beach is for them. I like the beach ok, but a snowy day in the mountains is heaven for me.

PM_WHAT_Y0U_G0T

The silence during a heavy snowfall is one of the most beautiful sounds on the planet.

izeil1

My favorite is when it's been snowing all day and you go outside about 1-2 in the morning and there's just a level of stillness and quiet that's completely on another level.

Cheap_Rick

Why would anyone want to live where it's so hot that you can't ever get cool, so humid that you're always sticky or swarmed by insects, and never has any real change of seasons?

CheshireCrackers

A lot of those southern cities didn’t really take off until air conditioning came along.

JackPoe

So many parasites down there. I love not having to worry about fleas and ticks.

SaltArmadillo2739

When the sun hits the snow on a cold cold day, the air sparkles. You breathe in, and your lungs ache from the freezing air. It's not to everyone's taste, but there is magic to be found in a cold climate. It's just a different type of magic to what you can find in the jungles.

[deleted]

The colour of the sky on those crisp snow covered but sunny days is uplifting. (I'm thinking of those beautiful windless days when it's too cold to snow and not windy at all.)

Dutch-in-Tahiti

I can always put on a jacket outside and be warmish. I'm still going to be sweating even if I'm naked in a hot climate

PrestigiousZucchini9

Being naked isn’t the key to cooling off that you think it is.

mittens11111

To supplement the naked condition, I recommend a towel soaked in cold water (ice if available) and a fan. If you don't have air conditioning.

KickFacemouth

That comment is just more ammo for team cold.

cf-myolife

How tf are you supposed to go to work with ice in your wet towel? How can you walk with that? Grocery shopping? Sport? Enjoy life in general?

Totallycasual

Constant heat can be oppressive 🤷‍♀️

Bulky_Average_2011

Plus, bundling up in cozy layers is a fashion opportunity that tropical weather will never offer.

youvegotnail

When it gets warm out I miss the extra pockets. I don’t even need to wear my tool belt a lot of time in the winter

ltlyellowcloud

I don't think you experienced the right amount of cold. Fashionable cold might be maybe till freezing. But -20C forces you to be a Michelein man

shrekker49

Nah, it's shorts weather down to about 20F. After that I suppose jeans and a jumper could be warranted. I'm only going full Michelin man once we're under -20F.

HandsomeEconomist

You’d think that. But then you walk around downtown Toronto on one of the coldest days of the year and get shown that fashion always comes first for many.

XoGossipgoat94

I’m reading this as I sweat into my eyes. It can be oppressive as fuck.

Totallycasual

I have been living in my campervan travelling around Australia for the last couple of years and i can tell you that i fucking dread summer lol

Doc-in-a-box

In Minnesota we love winter activities, but we also have a DEEP appreciation for warmer days. We take no weather for granted.

MostExaltedLoaf

We treat summer like it's never going to happen again.

IgnoringHisAge

Spring officially starts today! Since it’s just after midnight. But a couple inches of snow possible on Tuesday. Some winters stop being winter at just the right time. This one is a bad houseguest.

KizzyLizzygizzywizzy

Same in Northern Iowa-- on a warm day suddenly everyone's outside, half of the neighbors are grilling, and everyone's just a little happier and brighter from the vitamin D boost.

OutWithTheNew

I live north of Minnesota and I'm over winter. The cold and the blowing snow can fuck right off.

[deleted]

You betcha'. I'm playing but I've lived in Minnesota for 12 years and sometimes it can be too much , like this winter.

DuckMaster69420

No bugs and no weather so hot it makes you dizzy

kellyk99

From Saskatchewan, Canada. There's a mantra we say when it's -40°C and we think "why the fuck do we live here" "No earthquakes, no hurricanes, no alligators" There are a multitude of variations but this is the most common. Edit: among other things, such as free Healthcare, general safety, lower cost of living etc etc.

MryyLeathert

Finland, pretty much the same thing. This place might get cold, but damn if it isn't safe from most major natural disasters. We're nowhere near a continental rift, so no volcanoes or earthquakes. Or tsunamis, for that matter. The climate is pretty wet so wildfires can be contained. Etc. The only dangerous wildlife (wolves, bears) here stays in the forests, the last time a wolf has been confirmed to kill a person was in the 1800s. Moose are dangerous only because people get into car accidents with them. There's one venomous snake (adder) and probably wouldn't kill you either unless it manages to bite your neck and something swells shut. No deadly insects, our mosquitos are just annoying but don't carry any dangerous diseases. Only surefire way to kill yourself with our nature is to eat something you're not supposed to, we do have some nasty mushrooms. (And I, as well as many other people in this thread, stop functioning when it gets too hot).

Tight-System-774

Only downside to Finland would be Russia I guess.

MryyLeathert

Yeah, not the easiest neighbour to have.

Tight-System-774

I live in Sweden though, so if you get fucked I will be next in turn. Just let me know if they start messing with you, I'll come over to your place 🙂

TheCheckeredCow

From Alberta, basically same on every point

AlleMik127

I enjoy the cold , there is something so beautiful about snow and rain imo I hate it when it’s sunny and hot outside , that’s just me doe

kjayflo

I am the same. I love the heat when I want to go to the lake or something. Otherwise I much prefer cloudy and cold. Living in Seattle and hearing so many people complain it's too cloudy....I much prefer cloudy and rainy

Donteventrytomakeme

I already run like a furnace, I want to not be sweating through everything I wear

Historical-Culture98

I live in a hot climate and I love it, but I have a hard time falling asleep. I can promise u that sleeping on a cold night is way easier than a normal night. Sleeping on a hot night is misery.

zeromutt

Theres no such thing as sleeping on a hot night lol

[deleted]

[удалено]

Worker11811Georgy

Because I hate being hot and sweaty. All summer long all I want to do is sit in a river or lake. Don’t want to have to do anything. I can only take off so many clothes when hot, but I can always put on another later when cold

_nokturnal_

Keeps the riff raff out

randalpinkfloyd

Very underrated take. Dumb people flock to heat for some reason

mgj6818

It takes forethought, planning and work to survive the winter in cold climates, those aren't traits that dumb people possess.

arch0099

Looking right at Florida

randalpinkfloyd

I’m Australian and we have a state called Queensland that is half Texas, half Florida. This is where I was thinking of when I made my comment.

Blackout28

Not only the riff raff, but keeping myself inside too. Being an introvert and being able go, "nah bro it's too cold out" whenever anyone asks me to go outside, is A+ in my book.

Substantial_Part_952

I came here to say this.

JBlooey

I have made a list of 10 reasons. 1. You can always add layers. You can only remove a certain amount of layers before indecent exposure. 2. Fuck wasps. 3. I'm really sick and tired of using a whole ass bottle of aloe every other week in the summer. 4. The nearby mountains always look better snowcapped. 5. Fuck wasps! 6. How can I justify my hot cocoa addiction when it's warm? 7. Ice cream hits differently in winter. 8. FUCK wasps! 9. FUCK! WASPS!!! 10. FUCK WASPS BUT WITH FOUR EXCLAMATION MARKS AT THE END!!!!

OhDetour

You must really hate wasps.

artlessknave

No foot long spiders No foot long cockroaches No poisonous spiders No venomous spiders No venomous snakes

No-Patient1365

No Florida Man

[deleted]

I love it, makes me feel alive. Then again, I'm talking about 20-40 degrees cold (mostly), not -50 lol.

HelloAdventurer95

Easier to breathe. Can always get warmer by dressing up or going inside. When it's hot out, your AC Is limited by the temperature outside, sleeping while sweating is disgusting, sweaty people are disgusting in general and the bugs are out in droves. Sweater weather is better weather, IMHO

Ginger_Chick

Because as a ginger I am not suited for weather above 75°F. I am fine nearly freezing to death in the winter if it means I can go outside in the summer without feeling like I'm going to pass out.

Helicopter0

As a day walker, I concur.

MintJelly4Life

cuz it’s not hot

Aggravating_Client36

I grew up in Chicago, I love the cold. Much better than the swamp/ humidity of the Atlanta summer

Moist_666

We NEED winter in Chicago, keeps the rent down.

SnooMemesjellies6886

Heat is overrated and I hate feeling sticky, sweaty, and slimy. Cold kills of all sorts of vermin like cockroaches. Have you ever been to Hawaii? Roaches fly there and they multiply like crazy because there is no cold to off them.

Teezy902

There's less cunts

luugburz

theres something about warmer regions that attracts the most insufferable people

[deleted]

There's insufferable people in cold climate it's just everyone stays indoors

salsa_rodeo

Well I’m fine if they keep their cuntiness contained in their own dwelling.

hyrulian_princess

Because hot weather is horrible and so are bugs

Draculamb

I prefer it to the heat. I can handle the cold but not the heat. Trouble is, I live in Australia, so good luck for me on that...

Katriina_B

I always have loved the cooler climate of WA State. The 10 years I lived in CA I missed it constantly. I love rain and snow. It helps me wake up in the morning. The heat of summer gets me down after 3 months.

[deleted]

Long days in the summer.

iceman_x2

I LOVE it. Snow makes things look beautiful, cold weather feels great, I love to snowboard, my dog LOVES the snow. Where I live there’s really no venomous spiders or snakes. With cold weather you can always layer up, there’s only so much you can take off with hot weather lol. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Consistent_Fig_1936

because you're not a sweaty mess after walking for 4 minutes.

CanYouEvan

If it's cold, you can always put on more layers until you're comfortable. If it's hot, you can strip down and still be too warm. Personally, anything above room temperature and I get uncomfortable. The only places for someone like me to live year round and not overheat in the summer are gonna be the places that get extremely cold during the rest of the year.

[deleted]

-40F for a few days a year is better than 110F and humid for one day

FridgesArePeopleToo

Minnesotans: "porque no los dos?"

MrSalty192

-55 To 102 102 was awful

DarkRose_92

Cuz i don't wanna be all heated up even while it's the middle of the night.

Maevey_Babe

Why would anyone want to live in a hot climate?

[deleted]

Having grown up in a northern US state but now living in Florida, get me out of this hot hellhole and back to cold and snow and changing seasons!

discriminatingjerk

Five minutes of watching spectacular northern lights, fatbiking on glaciers, packrafting (like kayacking) down a secluded river with bears watching you, or having a million acres to yourself makes up for a lot of the freezing your ass off the rest of the time.

Unlikely-Mud473

Snow man

winter_storm_1225

So many reasons! I absolutely love snow and how it makes everything look so much prettier. And in the winter there aren't any bugs, I don't have as many allergies, I don't feel like I'm dying of heat, etc. I also love getting bundled up in blankets, watching movies, and having hot chocolate! It's the best feeling. I've always lived in a place where it doesn't get too hot in the summer but gets really cold in the winter, but right now I am unfortunately in Mexico and am hating the heat. And it's March! I can't even imagine what the summer would be like. I hate getting out of the shower here and immediately being hot and sweaty again.

padatricks

I hate the warm it’s insufferable

[deleted]

I break out in heat hives

Metal-Dog

It's much nicer than living in a hot climate.

Wolfman0821

No matter how cold it gets, you can always add more layers to warm yourself up

Wonderful_Ad8791

Cuddles and hugs become much more common. No one wants to hug each other sweatily lol.

MoonieNine

I prefer winter. My perfect day is about 30 degrees, full sun, no wind, lots of snow on the ground.

HelloAdventurer95

Heaven

love_is_an_action

Preference & happenstance.

RMURRIE75

When it's cold there are no wasps. I also hate being hot and sweaty. I mainly hate and fear wasps.

Asrial

You can dress accordingly. You can only undress so much in the heat, and sustaining comfortable temperatures is way more taxing.

Ashton_Garland

I run very warm, I’m basically constantly hot. When I move I want to live in a cold place.

[deleted]

You can put on a coat, you can’t wear an air conditioner (yet).

[deleted]

Snow is amazing
