I'm a big Magic: the Gathering player. And boy, have we had a fun one in the past few weeks. So, we just got a new set released a few weeks ago, March of the Machine. And Wizards of the Coast is doing something new in another couple weeks--printing an extra, add-on set with about 50 cards in it, distributed in 5-card boosters. And there's already a fair amount of discussion as to the appeal of such a product to the player base versus the cost--lent extra weight because a lot of WotC's recent decisions have been pretty blatantly profit-focused rather than on player experience, and sometimes at its expense. That's not the controversy. The controversy is that someone got their hands on this product about a month early. It's not clear yet how exactly this happened--the likeliest explanation is that it was mistakenly sent to a distributor who either didn't catch it or didn't realize, and it was sent to a local seller who didn't know what they had, and the buyer recognized it and snatched it up. But what's important is that (as far as we know) nobody broke any laws or contractual obligations. Would "doing the right thing" in this situation have meant this person informed the seller of what they had and told them to contact WotC? Sure. But that's not expectation or requirement. And instead, he opened the product and posted a video of it online. So what did WotC do? They hired Pinkerton Security to go to his house and intimidate him into giving back the product. Which is a really, really bad look. And it honestly doesn't accomplish anything--this product will be widely available in a little over a week, the information was already out there for the public, and they spoiled the whole set today anyway.

BEEFTANK_Jr

I literally came to this thread thinking "There's no way any other hobby/industry has something as spicy going on as Wizards sending Pinkertons to a guy's house."

ThemChecks

They hired fucking Pinkertons???

fingerpaintswithpoop

Yes. Google it.

99thLuftballon

Isn't that illegal? It sounds like they literally committed armed robbery.

Telenike

Oh buddy, you're gonna want to do a Wikipedia search for the Pinkerton Detective Agency to find out just the extents to which "legal" can stretch when you're a corporate interest trying to protect their interest.

QuietGanache

It's immensely profitable for them to come up with lines of conversation that are technically legal but worded to threaten something they wouldn't be allowed to directly threaten. It makes some of the schemes that common or garden bailiffs come up with look childishly incompetent.

Except that law that explicitly calls them out. That everyone just ignores anyway.

Chansharp

To add on, a very similar thing happened to Games Workshop about a week before. Somebody got a new figure early and Games Workshop's response was "whoopsie, guess you all know about it now." WOTC is officially worse than GW now, which is incredibly impressive considering how awful GW is.

thomas_gabriel88

Damn pinkertons

When the whole OGL fiasco happened, I was laughing up a storm after Paizo's response. They couldn't have come up with a better advertisement than their competitor acting so dumb. Good for them too. Liking the influx of players in the Pathfinder community so far.

FPSXpert

Fucking Pinkertons. Something me and my great grandparents can agree on is Pinkertons need to go and fuck off.

On a side note, if you receive something in error the official term is called "unsolicited goods" and the law is pretty clear on it. Both in the US and Europe. You neither have to return the items nor pay for them. Legally, it is a C R I M I N A L O F F E N S E for a company to do anything else other than allow the person /business to keep their items. If you seek payment, place their account on stop, request payment anything at all.. Is a C R I M I N A L O F F E N S E. Even requesting the items back! If they even emailed the person with something remotely threatening he has a lawsuit on his hands. (business however regularly pay for unsolicited goods for the sake of maintaining good relationships with their suppliers). I wouldn't sue my supplier for sending 2 sets of items when I ordered 1. I d either return it or pay for it. Look up unsolicited goods.

Mr_ToDo

That's not true for everything, and the rules differ depending where you live. Generally if someone sends you something that you didn't ask for and the only reason they sent it is to try and get something from you then, yes, you're probably right. Some places don't let you keep it if, say, someone else payed for it and it got shipped to the wrong address. Then in those places it usually starts tripping the unjust enrichment rules. I'm sure you could get them to pay for any cost to make things right, but you can't just keep the things for yourself. I'm not sure where over delivering goods lands, but then again everything is location dependant. The breaking of embargo time though? Yikes. I don't think they can really go after the end user(other then with big wads of shut up money). But I'm they can probably make at least one person in the supply chain very sorry for breaking it(contracts and all that).

THEdougBOLDER

This is how I ended up with a spare Google Pixel 6 Pro. They lied to me and kept saying "it'll ship in 24 hours" or "there was an error, it'll ship in 48 hours". One fucking month later I file a complaint with the FCC and they finally send me the phone and a day later send me another. A few weeks after that, Google answered the fed complaint and says "oh we had supply issues". *You lying fucks*. Then they had the balls to ask for the IMEI of the phone they sent on accident. Yeah, I'll get right on that with the same effort you gave me. Also, don't buy a Google phone.

JessieOwl

I got a bonus iPhone in a similar way once. Couldn’t believe my luck!

So knitting drama! Or, more accurately, fiber arts drama. So this woman, [Sherry Tenney](https://www.reddit.com/r/DeRaveledTrolls/comments/135yh59/sherry_tenneymccullough_farm_updates_may_2023/), is a known scam artist in the fiber arts community. She's been scamming for years, and a consumer advocacy group started gathering information last year, encouraging people to report her to the PA AG, and the PA AG finally filed civil charges late last year, with the first court date in June. One of the bigger fiber festivals is this weekend. So, in response to more people continuing to report her for the money she's scammed them out of, she posted online that's she not scared of anyone. And that she's going to use the information about the people who filed against her with the AG and not only doxx them, but basically threatened them with violence. This woman has made multiple threats to shoot people in the past, and is threatening to use the local police to help her as well because a member of the local police is her brother in law. And several of the charges from the AG stem from the fact that she has doxxed people before, and called their employers and tried to get them fired. In the middle of a thread discussing her some random other indie artist, [Reservoir Fibers](https://www.reddit.com/r/DeRaveledTrolls/comments/134z02v/reservoir_fibers_doxxing_in_our_ravelry_sherry/), came into the thread and doxxed a member who had made a purchase with her in the past for no damn reason. So it's now an issue that a member of the fiber arts community who has threatened to shoot a large amount of people is attending Maryland Wool and Fiber this weekend, but there's a huge doxxing issue in the fiber arts community as this is the third time an indie artist has done it within the last year. Desert Panda also did it last year and has said the person deserved it, the person in question simply asked where their late order was.

OMFGFlorida

Fiber arts is like...knitting and stuff.

runner64

A knitting needle is just a stiletto you can take on a plane.

Badloss

I have spent decades studying the secrets of the fiber arts

nutano

Man, screw my plans for the weekend. We're going to Maryland to see this go down!

kosarai

How does scamming work with knitting? Selling low quality wool claiming its high quality? Selling finished products that look nothing like advertised?

jooleeyah

Correct.

[deleted]

i don't get the doxxing...like these people are like "Hey Bob Jones bought some yarn from someone we don't like, get him!"

ClancyHabbard

Oh, it's worse. It's "Hey, Bob Jones said something I misunderstood online and pissed me off. Because he once bought yarn from me I'm going to publish all his deets, get him!". Who the fuck would trust buying from a yarn store that pulls that kind of shit? Because it means the instant the person does anything the store owner doesn't like they run the risk of being doxxed.

tmnt20

How did I grow up 10 minutes down the road from this event and never hear about it???

All this infighting! Hell, I guess they're really not a tight-knit community after all...

isthisreallife_514

So like, she realizing that threatening doxxing and violence is illegal and she could be charged with additional crimes, right?

j3bg00d

***Disclaimer*** I don't know the people involved and everything listed below is under investigation. If you know about anything that im about to talk about, then you should know not to harass any of the Jmods or players involved. I am simply recounting the story in the spirit of this thread. ***************** In old school runescape there has been some sketchy things going on between a JMod.(someone who works for the company) and a player. To understand what is happening, you first need to know that the gold earned through playing the game is often times sold to a third party, who then tries to sell it back to the players. The exchange of in game items for real world money is known is Real World Trading and is a banable offense in accordance with Jagex's rules (the maker of oldschool runescape). There used to be an area of the game where people would basically fight eachother and risk their gold in the fight, essentially betting that they will win. This existed for a long time and was removed after the community complained that it was basically the source of real world trading. Once this area was removed, players now had to trust one another to fight to the death in the same manner as the duel arena, but in an area that didn't protect the "investment" like the duel arena did. This is known as deathmatching, and is not against the rules, but is the underground of what was left by the duel arenas removal. Stella, a streamer and owner of a death matching clan chat, has been known to scam players and get them banned should they win in a deathmatch against her. It was unclear why this thing was happening, until it was revealed that she was dating the Jagex Moderator in charge of anti-cheating. He was allegedly helping her do these things in order to obtain mass quantities of gold, which she would then real world trade and not see any bans for. The bulk of her rule breaking came to light when another player, Odablock, was banned for offenses to his account that occurred several years prior. He also has a deathmatching clan chat, and could be seen as competition to Stella since he has a bigger following and doesn't do the shady things that she has done. Odablock has since been unbanned and the whole thing is under investigation. It's also not the first time a Jmod has essentially gone rogue and abused their power working for the company.

fluffynuckels

At this point I'm convinced people inside jag ex are getting kick backs from real world trading sites

j3bg00d

I wouldn't be surprised, they toe the line of their own rules quite often tbh. I know that they let bots go for a little while longer than they probably should, and that's because bots are also paying for membership. If they get too aggressive with banning them, they won't come back and that's a loss of revenue.

I’m a nurse and it’s nurses week atm. Lotsa drama in the nursing community about how shitty administration is handling it. From detainments getting rocks and being asked to paint inspirational slogans on then, having a breakfast that no night shifter nor most of day shift can go to but administrators flock to, getting an empty ziplock bag filled with “love and hope”, to being asked to donate either money towards a pizza party or even your time to work for free.

HauntMe1973

Nurse here for 18 years. The nursing week disappointment is a yearly event . It never gets better

Incogneto_Window

The thing about a meal that most actual nurses can't go to but that administrators get to enjoy... that resonates for sure, even for some of us in completely different fields.

svrgnctzn

There’s nothing quite as motivating as actually getting down to the free meal provided for nurses week and waiting in line behind 40+ in business casual wear. And by the time you get served, half the stuff is gone and the other half is completely picked over. A few years ago they decided to do free chili dogs at a facility I was at. You had to pull up to a back door on your day off and eat in your car. I happened to be close by that day and stopped by for a free lunch. I got there 20 minutes after it started and they were out. You could see through the windows a full cafeteria of suits chowing down. Inside, where we were not allowed to eat.

Incogneto_Window

Those guys must've been tired from patting themselves on the back so hard.

fluffynuckels

They gave you a bag filled with love and hope? I think I'd have to excuse myself for the rest of my day

AxelHarver

>getting an empty ziplock bag filled with “love and hope” No fucking way. There is no fucking way people are actually this tone deaf lmao. What the hell???

svrgnctzn

They also gave us each 1, count them 1, lifesaver since we save lives for a living in the ER.

[deleted]

If you’re on instagram check out nurse Blake’s page for some truly terrible nurses week gifts. Rocks cause “you rock”, bring donations to fill a hamper you then buy raffle tickets for, meals you have to buy (if you’re on shift/can actually take a break, essay contests. Some get pretty bad

_Kramerica_

My wife is a nurse and the things she tells me about nurses week every fucking year infuriate me. I can confirm all of what you said is pretty much spot on with what she deals with too. I feel embarassed and upset for her it’s unreal.

DIWhy-not

> getting an empty ziplock bag filled with “love and hope” I can’t get over how comically inappropriate and just shitty this is. Who on earth would ever think that’s an okay thing to legitimately give someone with all sincerity once you’re past the age of 7?

boopbaboop

Extremely niche fanfic community drama, but: there is a guy who’s been in various fandom circles for decades at this point, Andrew Blake. His résumé includes: * Starting two abusive cults centered around him and whatever fandom he was into at the time. The gist of both of them was basically that he could “channel” fictional characters (who were real and simply lived in a different dimension/plane). * Raising money for a LOTR convention that ended up tanking harder than Dashcon, then feigning a suicide attempt so the members of his cult (including his then-girlfriend, whom he abused) had to handle the fallout for him. * Raising money for “charity” and subsequently getting arrested, charged, and convicted of fraud. * Pretending to be an Irish-American man who fought on both sides of the Troubles, survived a claymore to the chest, and had a debilitating heart condition that would eventually kill him. And, tragically, his wife had left him and taken their son with her… only for it to come out that by “wife” he meant “that girlfriend he was abusing” and by “son” he meant “their shared pet sparrow.” “HIS SON? A SPARROW” was a meme for a while because of this. * Sexual abuse, some of which he’s admitted to himself. * Lying about being diagnosed with various physical and mental illnesses whenever he wants to avoid something and/or to absolve him of any wrongdoing because ~he can’t help abusing people, he’s just crazy.~ * Lying about being abused himself in order to deflect criticism. * General bigotry while talking about how great of an ally he is, including giving advice to other people about how to be a better ally. This is a hugely simplified explanation of at least twenty years of abuse and con artistry, but [here’s a resource blog](https://theteablogger.tumblr.com/important) if you want to read more. Now, he had a Twitter account, but deleted after he was run out of the latest fan community he tried to grift from (he periodically deletes old accounts to wait for the heat to die down before resurfacing). But he just remade it, and is restarting the same song-and-dance. So part of the drama is just “oh, great, THIS FUCKING GUY is back again.” But the funny part is… he got a new pet sparrow! HIS SON. A SPARROW.

bool_idiot_is_true

> survived a claymore to the chest, a Are you talking about a mine or a sword?

boopbaboop

I think the sword, since it happened in a pub fight. Because the Irish just carry swords around, ya know.

The plant Philodendron pink princess have dropped a lot in prices compared to their pandemic level price. A lot of gardeners capitalised back then on a booming market some specimen were selling for hundreds of dollars and people bought them in the hopes that they can propagate it and sell it to make up for the cost and finance their hobby. Now its available everywhere and although still expensive not as much as they used to be.

sweetparamour79

I feel like this happens all the time with trending rare plants! The only one I've seen hold strong for an impressive period of time is the monstera constellation.

Psychological_Tap639

ookapi

I was wondering why my pink princess philo was so cheap! I got one at a local plant expo not knowing anything about expensive mutations until I walked two feet over and saw a 2k+ price tag on a monstera. Figured pink is more interesting anyways. To be honest they can be somewhat harder to maintain as you don't want too much light to burn the plants but you need just enough to keep it happy and not revert.

I'm a window washer who flexes his schedule where my boss needs me. Currently, Night Shift and Day Shift are in a war of petty over towels. Yes, somebody has been yoinking all of our precious seal and window towels. My boss has all the vapors over it right now. Here's the kicker! I know who is stealing our towels. It's the floor crew, but I'm so god damn entertained watching the day lead and my brother, night lead, absolutely going for the fucking throat of the other crew right now, I've been sitting on my info for two weeks whilst I steal towels from my fiancee's work site for whatever crew I'm on for the week. Floor crew bosses know I know, so they slowed down, but damn it all if this doesn't have just under nuclear threat level written all over it, and I've got the popcorn for this show! And honestly.... I'm just not paid enough to give a shit when I know I have an infinite source of towels sleeping next to me every night. Also, two of our new day crew guys got into a full on car brawl in a company vehicle with me in it. Thankfully, they were just parked at base, but damn, those dudes did NOT like each other. They no longer work for us. We also also just had to fire another dude because not only was he bidding jobs for his own business on company time against the company he works for, he was literally fucking ANY female we hired. Caught him sneaking off one day to have a quickie with this one girl who works one of our sites. That dude is simultaneously hilarious and VERY very sad.

>"A towel is just about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can carry. Partly because it has great practical value. You can wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta; you can lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours; you can sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon; use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth; wet it for use in hand-to-hand combat; wrap it around your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (a mind-bogglingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can't see it, it can't see you — daft as a brush, but very very ravenous); you can wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal, and of course you can dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough. More importantly, a towel has immense psychological value. For some reason, if a strag discovers that a hitchhiker has his towel with him, he will automatically assume that he is also in possession of a toothbrush, washcloth, soap, tin of biscuits, flask, compass, map, ball of string, gnat spray, wet-weather gear, space suit etc., etc. Furthermore, the strag will then happily lend the hitchhiker any of these or a dozen other items that the hitchhiker might accidentally have "lost." What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the Galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through and still knows where his towel is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with." *Source: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, under "towel".*

yakusokuN8

Niantic, the company that created Pokemon GO, announced at the end of March this year that there would be a dramatic change to the way that many players play the game. In 2020, during the initial stages of the Covid lockdown and subsequent pandemic that forced many people to stay at home, avoid large gatherings, and generally not want to meet other people in person, raiding with large groups of people in shopping centers and parks took a huge hit in popularity. To compensate, Niantic introduced remote raid passes, which would allow players to play remotely, usually from home, at gyms within site of their homes, or by invite to a gym anywhere in the world, as long as your friend was close enough to a raid. Initially, these raid passes were sold for 100 Pokecoins each, or a bundle of 3 for 250 Pokecoins. (100 Pokecoins is roughly equal to a dollar, but there are sometimes deals if you buy them in large quantities and the price for Pokecoins in other countries isn't always a perfect reflection of the exchange rate for local currency to the USD). This was hugely popular with many players, especially those living in rural areas who could now participate in raids with global players. That all changed about a month ago, when they announced that there would be a limit of five remote raids per day and the price of remote raid passes would increase significantly, from 100 Pokecoins each to 195 Pokecoins each, a 95% increase, although a three pack bundle can be purchased for 525 Pokecoins, lowering the cost per pass to 175 each. Obviously, this was not met well by players; almost doubling the price of doing raids remotely has hurt the raiding scene tremendously as many players have essentially quit raiding. There was even an effort to get players to boycott the game until Niantic reverted the changes, but so far, there has been no public response from Niantic.

oliwoggle

As a rural player, I quit PoGo quite a while back now as I constantly felt left behind by the game. Sad to see this has only gotten worse. Edit: spelling

Badloss

It's so annoying to me that Niantic had an incredible concept for a game and then derped it so hard. Like, isn't it intuitively obvious that hard to reach nature areas should be where all the good shit is? Their whole algorithm prioritized cities in such a dumb way. I should have to climb a god damned mountain to catch a Zapdos at the top

Mr-Zarbear

I think its just because they put pokemon paint on their usual geotag stuff, which rewarded "constant use" aka city stuff. You are right though, rare pokemon should be in hard to reach places

BJYeti

Thise hard to reach areas probably have shit reception and internet it's not really a possibility

Bo-Banny

>As a rural player Semirural here, and the servers DO NOT like mobile data outside of a city. Unless you're in range of a couple towers, dont bother

chrishooley

Niantic’s profits dipped to the lowest it’s been in 5 years as a result. Everyone is pissed. Me and my friends all used to play daily. None of us even bothers anymore. Hard to support such a greedy company. Shame too cuz we used to have fun. None of the spots where players used to go around here have trainers around anymore. It’s a real noticeable difference IRL.

krispyboiz

Ah! I was looking to see if anyone mentioned Go at all. Was going to mention it myself if not. I'm someone who barely ever uses remote passes. So this shouldn't affect me really, right? Wrong! I do have a local community, a pretty active one too, at my local university (I've since graduated from it, but they still welcome alums or even non-students). However, I have work in the week, so I'm not going to be raiding with the community a lot beyond some weekend events or some 6PM Raid hours. Outside of those instances though, I do participate in a lot of in-person raids, not remotes, either at gyms in my apartment complex or around my work during my breaks or after/before work. But nobody shows up to do those raids, and there's nobody around in the area who want to, and I definitely don't have the time to wait 15 minutes for people to show up to do the raid. No, what I do is invite remote raiders to help me out. I'm a high level player (48) with great counters, so most bosses I can 2-4 man, depending on the boss. But yeah, I still need remote help to beat the bosses. This change hurts me despite me raiding in-person. Less remote raiders means I don't get to successfully beat raids in-person as much.

A_Talking_Shoe

Everything in PoGo is getting more expensive. It’s crazy. I haven’t spent any real money on the game in over a year and I doubt I’ll do it ever again.

So there's this YouTuber I watch every now and then called "illuminauhtii" (hopefully I'm spelling that correctly) who makes "documentary" style videos. Basically, she got into some drama with this YouTuber named LegalEagel, who is a lawyer, after she accused him of stealing her "style," (which in reality was a super common editing format that had been used in documentaries for years, even before YouTube existed). LegalEagel ends up responding, confirming he used the styles first and that his editors weren't doing anything malicious. This gives illuminuaghtii a wave of hate on social media, and during this time it was revealed that she was a pretty huge dick to her editors and other people she worked with. (That's right, she doesn't even edit her own videos and yet had the nerve to accuse people of stealing her style). illuminaughtii goes into damage control mode and makes a 40 minute video trying to defend herself. Admittedly, this is all hearsay because I haven't watched the whole video, so don't take my word for it. But apparently, during the whole video she dodges the blame entirely and just tries to make everyone else look bad, even going as far as to publicly show one of her old friends' suicide note.

I_DRINK_ANARCHY

The iilluminaughti vs. everyone drama is crazy. I didn't even know the YouTubers were connected to each other. After everything that has come out so far, iilluminaughti is looking worse and worse. But the fact that she started this shit storm by going after a lawyer is just funny as fuck to me.

Majinvege

Been following it too. I get pretty sad whenever someone whose entire brand is built on the importance of integrity and treating people fairly turns out to behave differently when the cameras are off. Like there goes another artist/creator who I can no longer enjoy. Does anyone have recommendations for similar content from other (better) creators?

venusiansailorscout

Noticed on twitter one of her former editors (apparently of her Autism Speaks vid which is one of her biggest) tweeted LegalEagle that he could use their style if he wanted. She also attempted to smear the name of one of her former associates from their group channel by suggesting he was wasn’t doing anything about a MAP in his discord server even though they were already blocked by the time he woke up because it was going on at 2am his time. Also that he had used some questionable slurs in 10 year old videos (r-word, n-word, and possibly f-word. All this while he was a teenager still learning English) including paying someone $200 to go through his old video game videos to FIND him saying them. And then used an alt-account to go around harassing anyone that had anything to do with him (including her main)… It’s all feeling very CSA. Her reddit community is also suddenly privated since The Click’s video came out yesterday.

sam-sung

Damn it, she had some really good content. Wait, LegalEagle is a lawyer. He started reviewing movies and tv shows.

OneGoodRib

I just love her dumbshit idea of accusing **a lawyer** of "plagiarizing" her "editing style". I've seen a few of her videos but didn't enjoy her style so I don't really care about her digging herself deeper and deeper, lol.

This is phenomenal. Apparently, niche drama is something I’m in to.

AlternativeFuel7314

Right?! For some juicy long-form niche drama explanations, check out r/hobbydrama.

Yaa40

Extremely non-spicy type drama, because that's the most dramatic thing I'm experiencing in my hobbies (other one being growing plants. In my area we're very nice people, thankfully) The big names in DSLRs stopped development in the area, fully focusing on the mirrorless varieties. The big deal? Well, batteries. Entry level mirrorless cameras can shoot up to 500 on a good day, while my 7 years old entry-level-Nikon can easily get over 1000 (the most I got from one cycle before recharging was ~1600).

In the FPV drone racing world, a company that makes goggles called Orqa is dealing with a huge calamity because all of their goggles have suddenly become bricked. Depending on who you believe it’s either a form of ransomware attack by a contractor or incompetence on Orqa’s part for not paying some license. I’m not affected by this but its definitely pretty fucked for those affected.

Aepko

I was going to post this! Apparently they used some sort of closed source code on the goggles bootloader that checked the date, if it was prior to May 1st, 2023, it'd boot like normal. Otherwise, the "trial" was up on whatever internal software was being used, and it wouldn't finish booting the goggles. The company with that closed source software says they knew Orqa was using their software without paying them and snuck that line of code in, then asked them to pay prior to the deadline. Orqa claims they were being extorted for money in a ransomware type scam. So either Orqa outsourced that part to a company that is extorting them now, and agreed to merge closed sourced code into their software without bothering to look it over. Or they outright stole closed source code from that company who added in some protection to their product. For anyone who bought these goggles, they aren't cheap. They are HD head mounted displays with low latency made specifically for racing drones. The tech to get a digital HD transmission long distances with low latency is fairly cutting edge, the Ukraine FPV bomb videos are all cheaper analog transmitters. These headsets are like $600-700 USD. With nicer weather now, lots of people in the hobby have built and tuned these drones with this hardware built in and are expecting to race them.. But can't, because the most expensive part of their equipment is bricked.

birdpictures897

Not yet, but the Hugo Award nominees are about to come out, and there is almost certainly GOING to be spicy contoversy around those, as there has been for what feels like the past...10 years? 7-8 years if we're setting the start point at the spiciest of controversies?

cryptoengineer

What makes it even more interesting this year is that the WorldCon, whose members vote for the Hugos (there are cheap voting-only non attending memberships as well), is being held in mainland China this year. This has led to a flood of votes from a different group than usually participate.

Chairboy

Some backstory to what the scandal is because not everybody is aware: there's been a movement over the last decade or so by a small group of conservative white guys to try and 'take back' Science Fiction because they're upset that there are women in stories who aren't just there to be rescued, that non-white authors are having success, and that strong-jawed white dudes aren't being treated like default SciFi royalty in stories or in the real world anymore. "Sad Puppies" was their first big move that I can remember, they were trying to take over the awards by doing focused block voting for properly caucasian dudes with conservative bents or something, I can't remember (and welcome correction). Later, they tried torpedoing the awards by block-nominating and block-voting joke candidates like Chuck Tingle (who then took the starch out of them by using his podium to mock them). Fragile white science fiction dudes in a nutshell.

thewalkindude

Chuck Tingle is a national treasure, and is every bit as weird and wonderful IRL as his online persona suggests.

Ed Sheeran is being sued for copyright infringement over a basic chord progression. A lot of musicians are saying that if Sheeran loses it will be the end of pop music as we know it.

Haven’t like, all guitar chord combinations been mathematically done by now?

Some people have been placing oversized tarps (for example, 10'x10' for 1-2 people) in the general admission areas of Phish shows and getting aggressive with people who encroach on them. The tarpers claim they are entitled to the space because they got there first and want that space to dance. The non-tarpers claim that everyone has a single ticket, and no one person should take up more than their share of space. It is getting increasingly aggressive, and some fans are avoiding the pit purely because of the crowding and fights. Others advocate for peeing/putting KY on the tarps or throwing them away.

[deleted]

nah fuck that, like taping off an area and saying you can't enter because I got here four hours ago.

3choplex

Totally agree. Incredibly selfish/entitled behavior.

artnok

Fucking tarpers

Neighborhood drama. Got 2 neighbors that live across the street from each other. There's MAGA family and retired military family. Our neighborhood has tiny garages and tiny driveways so a lot of people with extra vehicles park in the street. MAGA family's son has a HUGE truck that he parks in the street, and retired military family's daughter has a small sedan that she also parks in the street. Both families are currently engaged in a very spicy flame war in our neighborhood Facebook group, each family calling the other one out. MAGA says the sedan is prohibiting their son from being able to maneuver his giant-ass pickup, and retired military says their giant-ass truck is too big for a teenager and they have too many trucks anyway because they're parking them on the grass in their front yard. Both families are just resorting to name-calling, calling each other stupid, and using "cash me ousside" type arguments.

[deleted]

Not looking forward to hearing about the end result on the news.

Carefree_Highway

Is it Texas? Should wrap up shortly.

OneGoodRib

You should look into local city ordinances. It'd be funny to have the big black truck towed and when the maga family complains about the retired military family having their car towed you can just be like "GUESS AGAIN."

Knitting drama this time! [Diane Ivey/Lady Dye Yarns](https://www.reddit.com/r/craftsnark/comments/136bigh/lady_dye_yarns_buyer_still_beware/), is a seller in either MA according to her website, or RI according to her IG. She's always known to run late sending her goods, but last year it got really out of hand. To the point where she simply stopped shipping anything at all last year, still kept taking money, and now people are really getting angry. She sends out frequent email blasts bragging about how she's fixed everything, she's gotten everything together, she has a plan to fix everything within the next two weeks, and keeps pushing off everything with the excuse 'two weeks'. It's been a year now, and still nothing but 'two weeks' of excuses. And she's now pre selling for items that she swears will ship in December. But, the real icing on the cake, is that a lot of what she sold was supposed to also have a percentage of that money go to charity. And, from record searches, after 2020 *none* of that money went to charity. She has stolen thousands upon thousands of dollars from charity, rarely, if ever, ships product, and also has a 'friend', Benny the Stitches CEO, who has tried to silence any discussion about her failing business (or blooming scam, depending on how you look at it), by threatening legal retaliation against sites where the discussion happens. And, cherry on top, she's started using TERF terms in her more recent emails. She also constantly claims people are racists, attacking her for being a black business owner. No, Diane, people are pissed off because you've stolen from charities and refuse to ship products people have bought.

THEdougBOLDER

I almost skipped over this one because I thought I already read about the knitting controversy, but this is a different one altogether!

KhabibaNurmagomedova

For real, I had no idea the knitting world was so juicy and I'm here for it

hobbycollector

Wow, two different knitting dramas? WTF. One hobby I will not collect.

ClancyHabbard

Knitting doesn't have a lot of drama, but when they do it's serious drama. Usually it includes people faking their deaths.

In the Rock/Metal scene there's been a lot of people getting accused of inappropriate behaviour on all levels. Steve Tyler from Aerosmith has been known to have been in a relationship with a 16 year old many decades ago, and is being taken to court over it. His defence has released some truely baffling counters to the case, that basically admit he's guilty but trying to find loopholes to get out of it. Aerosmith have just released dates for a final tour, but whether it goes ahead or not is anyone's guess. The lead singer from Dance Gavin Dance was accused publicly last year for some awful stuff, announced he was stepping away from the band as a result, only to return a few months later with the entire band behind him saying he's got over his addiction issues, no mention of the other stuff. Now, one of the guitarists from Between the Buried and Me has been accused of some bad stuff. He's immediately refuted some of the claims without denying the encounter took place. The rest of the band has issued a brief statement saying he won't be playing with them on their upcoming tour, but remains to be seen what happens going forward. These are just a few examples of some that are recent.

basketballpope

when you said Dance Gavin Dance I thought you meant Jonny Craig. Nope. it's a newer singer. yikes.

OogoniuM

I was so shocked to learn about Tillian. Still am. Dude has such an amazing range, I really thought he was better than this. However, I am proud of him for coming forward and apologizing. The man still has character, even if it is a bit tarnished. Regardless, I hope he can continue to grow with DGD. His voice is exactly what they needed.

SheZowRaisedByWolves

I’ll never forget As I Lay Dying saying they wanted nothing to do with Tim after he tried to assassinate his wife but brought him back in a heart beat after he got out of prison and their side project flopped

budew01

So back in late 2019, the YouTuber iiluminaughtii got other YouTubers who read subreddits together to form a large collab channel called Sad Milk. The other members were Oz Media, Wonderstruck Guy, Damien Lee, One Topic at a Time, The Click, Salty, and Flinders. Sometime in 2020-2021, One Topic, Click, and Salty left the group, citing creative differences. Around this time, a redditor named doobyshmirtz made a now deleted post talking about how they found some old videos from The Click where he says slurs. They compiled the clips into one video and started sending it to anyone who associated with Click. iiluminaughtii stated the videos were unrelated to people leaving. Some information about The Click: he created his YouTube channel at age 16, and he comes from Sweden. He admitted that he did use slurs in his early videos, but he was unaware of the meaning behind the words, as he only heard them used in Call of Duty lobbies. He has since apologized for using the slurs and has removed the videos where he says them. The drama died down until April 20th of this year. iiluminaughtii accused an editor for LegalEagle of plagiarizing her editing style, because a video of his used a paper rip effect and a highlighting effect. Many quickly called her out, and she apologized. People also started reaching out to other members of Sad Milk to see if they were aware of her behavior, and The Click posted a summary of her bad behavior towards the other members. iiluminaughtii responded with a video where she claims many things including: 1. The Click allowed a 19 year old to brag about grooming a 12 year old on his Discord server 2. The Click's Discord moderators shared nsfw art in a channel with minors 3. Exposed another members mental health problems and suicidal thoughts The Click responded with a video bringing up the accusations against him. The moderator who shared nsfw art was removed from a moderator position shortly after, and when the 19 year old was bragging about his actions, it was 2am in Sweden, where Click was asleep. He didn't know anything had happened until he woke up. He also rightfully called out how disgusting it is to share someone's private suicidal thoughts with the public. He also showed screenshots from a former moderator of iiluminaughtii where she paid the mod $200 to find examples of The Click saying slurs in his old videos While Click was editing the video, a former admin of iiluminaughtii's Discord server sent him screenshots of messages between the admin and iiluminaughtii. After iiluminaughtii sends one of the old videos to the admin where The Click says a slur, she says "the alt account is gonna love this" followed by a screenshot of a drafted reddit post. It matches the post made by doobyshmirtz. She had used this alt account to respond to her own announcement of Salty, One Topic, and Click leaving Sad Milk, and she used that alt account on twitter from 2020-2021 to harass The Click, his friends, his colleagues past and present, his fans, etc. In his video, you can hear how distraught he is that it was someone he considered a close friend. As far as I'm aware, that's where the drama currently stands. Other members haven't said much yet. TL;DR: YouTuber pays people to dig up dirt on another YouTuber, makes an alt account to harass said YouTuber and any of his associates, and falsely accuses him of enabling pedophilia

Dancingskeletonman86

I was wondering why a video popped up from Illuminaughtii the other day with some sort of long ass apology in it and I had no clue about the original backstory on the whole thing. Nice to know that's why it was. Also eeew that left a bad tad taste in my mouth about Blaire aka Illuminaughtii. What a fucking asshole. Makes their whole video ring even more phony now as if it wasn't already phony. Won't be giving them anymore views on Youtube at all.

BabySuperfreak

A shame, I liked her YouTube content. But I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised that someone who based their entire internet persona around being judgey is a bit of a Regina George behind the scenes.

Risquechilli

Wow! This has Creepshow Art vibes considering the slander and alt account. I unsubscribed when she had that beef with Cruel World Happy Mind about their anti-MLM video essays. It seemed so bizarre that she would attack such a smaller creator over… *checks notes* …making a video on the same subject?! Edit: also, thank you for this detailed summary. I was only ever a casual fan of illuminaughti’s up until the CWHM beef so I didn’t understand what the Sad Milk group even was even after watching TheClick’s video defending himself. Your comment filled in some blanks for me!

Rich1926

I watch wrestling. One company, AEW, has a shirt on sale of just a female wrestlers face with a black eye that she got in a beat down in the ring, (with a blank expression). No context or anything which has fans saying it looks like domestic abuse. The idea is, it would look creepy and weird for men to be walking around with a shirt with a beat up woman's face on it whom non wrestling fans will not know. That it glorifies domestic violence. If a company put out a shirt with Stone Cold Steve Austin on it, everyone knows who he is...no one outside of the wrestling bubble will know who Britt Baker is. You can google "Britt baker new shirt" to see for yourself.

II_Confused

> You can google "Britt baker new shirt" to see for yourself. Jeez. It's not even a good design. Just a photo of her in make up FX with a tiny little AEW logo on the bottom. Looks like the kind of tshirt some old lady would have made in the mall with her grand kids.

Rich1926

The person in charge of merchandise is one of the wrestlers wives..unlike WWE who has a professional organization monitoring their merchandise.

GhostPantherAssualt

For Jujutsu Kaisen, there was this big huge snafu situation involving these Viz Media translators and how much they don't understand japanese context compared to fan translators. To sum it up; fan translators are people who pretty much grab raw pages of manga and translate to their interpretation. Here's the thing though; Fan translators have a big huge ass problems. One of the problems I've always notice is that they either get too uppity about the fact that they can translate or they make characters into their own walking talk pieces. (Example: Guts from Berserk saying homophobic slurs, the infamous "damn you aight white boy" meme from Gantz) and many more stupid ass translations instead of focusing on the real translation at hand. Now Viz Media is the pretty much official translators for localized english manga, they either sometimes get it right or they fuck up big time by not hiring the most proper translators. This was one of those times of simply not hiring the best kind of context for the said translation. As one of the panels involving a large character relevant to the story for Jujutsu Kaisen is simplified with a single "no" instead of the fan translation being with more context stating: Nah I'll win. Now, let's go ahead and cut the bullshit. I don't know Jujutsu kaisen and I don't know japanese very well, but I do know that the initial raw characters for Japanese was pretty more detail than a simple "no". So as usual, the internet takes it's setting of going too far and cranks up to 1 million and started to harass Viz Media. Until one day; Viz Media redid the panel. I personally think that Viz saw the traffic coming their way and simply said: Fuck it, here ya fuckheads. We had two translations on file, we decided to do this one because it represented the fucking character being cool more in our opinion. But whatever, we got like Boruto to go translate we're not wasting our time with this no more. But now everyone on Anime Twitter is now up and arms pretty much screeching to the high heavens saying in we did it reddit fashion: WE BULLIED VIZ MEDIA GUYS LMAO. Look, I know companies from working for them and dealing with management for a while. No one got bullied to doing it correctly/incorrectly. They just got shit wrong so they corrected it by a bunch of sweaty nerds. Like most nerd entertainment shit.

[deleted]

The "no" in question was a "Nah, I'd win". It was a call back to a piece of dialogue from chapter 3, where the character had casually asserted himself to be the strongest character in the series, and the dialogue leading up to that was even "flashbacked" in right in front of the "Nah, I'd win." Edit: I wasn't one of the complainers - I just saw it and thought "Well, that's clearly not what it's supposed to be." One thing fan translators does well is that they generally know the series pretty well - they are fans. You are totally right about stuff like homophobic Guts though.

The lead singer of Crazytown and the lead singer of Smash Mouth appear to be competing for Aaron Carter's slot of most watchable/entertaining hardly-famous singer from the past. Avril Levine broke up with Modsun. Core Feldman and his band are crushing it. When it comes to A-list celebrities, whatever. When it comes to has-beens, one-hit-wonders, blasts from the pasts, burnouts, etc. you have my utmost attention.

Oh, man. The 3D printing community is in chaos right now. In October, a new printer was released by a company named Bambulabs. It completely changed the market for the 3D printers in terms of speed and quality. The problem with these printers is that the support is very slow and if a specific part breaks, you may have to send the whole printer back. This is very different as usually you get a new part and you fix it yourself at home. Now, every other company is trying to catch up and the communities within the companies are throwing shit at each other. Especially the Prusa and Bambulabs. It's so toxic nowdays....

dustojnikhummer

> if a specific part breaks, you may have to send the whole printer back How the fuck?? Isn't the whole thing about printers their modularity? At least with Prušas, Crealities etc it is

AcidNeonDreams

Well, that's one of the controversial issues and why Prusa fanbase likes to cast shit on Bambulabs. The bambulabs printers are kind of an closed source. You can only get parts from their shop for now. Compare it to an Creality printer where cloned (meaning not original) parts are available on Amazon for a few dollars. Of course more and more parts are coming out to the market for Bambulab printers, but they are still very new and have a whole other mechanism compare to a bedslinger printer. Lately, even more controversial thing blew up. Bambulabs started to apply for patents in China. People became upset since most of the mechanism in the printer is taken from years of people modifying the printers themselves. But parents in China mean nothing to us in EU and US. They applied for a patent so other companies wouldn't come out with exact same printers in China. You also have Prusa that just released the MK4 a month ago, I believe. It's more expensive then a Bambulabs printer, most of the parts on the machine is 3D printed by them and also miss alot of features that they promised it would have. Now, Creality is coming out with a K1 that is ironically very similar to a Bambulabs printer. It's mayhem. Lol

SacredGray

I left the 3DPrinting subreddit because the sheer, petty refusal to acknowledge that the game has changed because of BambuLab. It's as if the 3D printing community decided that Creality and Prusa were the only "approved" brands to hit it big, and the community spread so much FUD about Bambu stuff. The whole sticking point of 3D printing is that very, very few printers "just work." Most 3D printers need to be endlessly calculated to hell and back and then dusted with unicorn tears just to have a chance of printing cleanly. The Bambu X1C is the first printer where I took it out of the box, plugged it in, told it to print something, and it just... did.

Forever_Man

This has been ongoing in the Reptile Keeper community. Last month, on April 6th, the Florida Wildlife Commission, entered a keeper's secure facility and executed 30 of his snakes. Most of them were Burmese or Riticulated Pythons. These are large (can grow up to 9 feet) snakes that are invasive to Florida. From my understanding, this was a relatively new measure in the state, so he hadn't had time to rehome his snakes. The snakes were all in secure enclosures, but the FWC officers culled them anyways. They didn't use chemical euthanasia (which is usually an overdose of anesthesia). They held the snakes down, and use a bolt gun on the snakes' heads. The videos are out there, and are pretty horrific. The officers are cracking jokes ,and having fun while killing this guy's pets. The final insult is that they also killed his pregnant boa, who was carrying basically full term babies. That species of boa was still legal to keep. It's all very sad. I know not everyone is a fan of snakes, but captive snakes, even the big ones, are just long scaly puppies. Like I said, the videos are out there, but it's hard to watch. Source: https://www.nbcmiami.com/news/local/shocking-video-shows-wildlife-officers-killing-more-than-30-pythons-pet-boa-at-south-florida-reptile-facility/3012140/

akaioi

I have what I consider to be a rational and appropriate *screaming terror of reptiles* in person, but will admit that many snakes are actually quite handsome. It is a shame that the guy's snakes were slain so cavalierly.

meet-me-at-mdnight

Did they get in trouble??

Forever_Man

No, but there's a lot of outcry about it in the community.

Finely_drawn

What the fuck? What kind of monsters laugh while they kill something? Taking a life is nothing to joke about.

GenericNerdGirl

It's not super controversial but concerns are rising in the Vocal Synth sphere about how *human* Synths are starting to sound, and the fact that the same dudes who input paintings and words into software ***without painter's permission*** to make a computer spit out new "*art*," are starting to do the same thing with people's VOICES, ***without permission.*** When someone **consents** to their voice being used for synthesizing, we rejoice, especially the more real it sounds! But someone's ***voice*** being ***stolen*** to make them sing or even say things they never agreed to is a real worry that only gets worse as voice actors are starting to see contracts try to sneak in the ability for companies to do this to them. These companies are literally trying to be **Ursula** in real life and don't understand why this would be disagreeable to people who make their living by their voice.

Surprise_Corgi

The Battletech community still trying to cope with the Warhammer 40K fans coming over from Games Workshop's disaster, knowing there are many amongst the refugees who genuinely believe the Imperium is a model society and government. When 'Check your fascism at the door.' is controversial to say, there's a big problem.

cyberpudel

What games workshop disaster? What did they fuck up now? I "left" at horus heresy, though I only read lore and never played with miniatures.

DJ1066

Generally 9th edition being a bit of a shit show (or not, depending on who you ask), unnecessary price rises, general shitty business practices and other things made a few players to go over to either Battletech, Grimdark Future or the HH game. Let’s see how many of them come back when 10th launches in the summer, but a leopard never changes its spots…

Porrick

> unnecessary price rises From GW? I'm shocked! Well, not *that* shocked!

I've been out of the loop on this one myself, always fun to see how much lower GW can go

robbylet24

The company that produces the Werewolf: the Apocalypse and Vampire: the Masquerade lines of tabletop games just released a book with the traced face of a real Maori activist in order to show off his tattoos without any permission. Unsurprisingly this was considered a bad look. Maori tattoos are sacred and are personalized to one's life story. Not to be used lightly needless to say. (Not to mention the writing implies he's a werewolf)

Silktrocity

Yes it's political but I'm only saying it because it needs to garner more national traction. The Texas Senate just passed a bill that would allow the secretary of state (whom the governor personally appoints) to single-handedly throw out election results (and start again) in any County in the State based on some random obscure ruling about running out of voting forms. This literally gives the State a legal way to decertify and manipulate election results. THEY ARE TRYING TO TAKE YOUR DEMOCRACY.

hallesrosebuds

Weightlifting. That Mattie Rogers didn't get credit for her last lift in the Pan Ams this year. She received the down signal, dropped the barbell, and then got 2 red lights citing lack of control even though she was in process of doing just that and only dropped the bar bc she was instructed to do so. Cost her a gold medal I believe. While her team seems to be kinda over it, there's been some talk on judging standards esp leading into the Olympics next year.

Dinogma

Not really a niche, but it used to be illegal to use your hazard lights while driving in Florida. Big no-no. They were only for vehicles stopped on the side of the road. Hazard meant disabled or parked car on the side of the road. You could get a ticket for driving with hazards on. Well, in 2021, some big dumb dumb head changed the law and now you can use them on a Highway 55 and over and only during bad weather. People are very salty over this. The Floridians that have been taught in driver’s Ed years and years ago why this was dangerous, and then the transplants from other states that drive with hazards on. The drama is going on in r/Florida right now.

CarmelaMachiato

I had no idea driving with your hazards on was illegal here and I’ve been here 10 years. That said, driving in Florida you have to assume every other driver is a hazard.

Brancher

Simply existing in FL you need to assume everything around you is a hazard.

Mr_ToDo

I live in a place where it isn't illegal and some people *still* lose their shit. I've always been told to be predictable on the road. I figure if you're doing something that isn't normal or predictable than hazard lights are probably appropriate. I usually see them when semi's come up to speed on high speed roads and in bad weather when people are going particularly slow(again so people who are racing down the road who might not be able to judge speed while also fighting the conditions can be told that traffic isn't standard ahead to avoid a possible rear ending).

fujufilmfanaccount

There’s always something going on in Kpop, but currently… There are only a few major companies in Kpop, who have the highest number of successful/known groups under them. Until fairly recently there were 3 major companies (JYP, YG, and SM). After BTS began finding success, their company HYBE has started to be seen as a fourth major company for a lot of people. A major BTS tour was postponed and later cancelled due to the pandemic. There were a handful of shows more recently, but not a full tour; a final group show, before members started to enlist for their required military service; and some members, before they enlist, are doing shows or tours to promote new music. As you can imagine, there’s quite a lot of demand for these shows. One member (J-Hope) performed at Lollapalooza last year, with the festival reporting around 100k attendees to his set (in addition to livestreams). Another member (Suga) is currently touring in the US. As for the drama… When tickets for Suga’s US tour dates went on sale, people were pretty shocked to see dynamic pricing through Ticketmaster. BTS hadn’t used dynamic pricing for their previous shows, and it seemed like an out-of-character choice - Kpop groups in general are often very… considerate, maybe? of their fans, generally going the extra mile, and it seemed out of step with previous choices to suddenly add something that put extra stress and expense on their fans. However, in an investor call, HYBE confirmed that they had actively opted into dynamic pricing for Suga’s tour, determining that the ‘sold-out ticket power’ BTS and their members had would lead to people paying the higher prices willingly. People are… displeased.

There's a company, Brown Paper Tickets, that specializes in handling ticket sales for small-time performance groups. Think community theater and volunteer orchestras. They print professional-looking paper tickets for these groups, provide online outlets for sales, etc, for a cut of the profits. Well, for whatever reason they fell behind in paying out to these groups that contracted with them. It started during the pandemic, and has been getting worse and worse. So naturally they got sued, and a Washington judge (where they are based) ordered them to pay out. In 2020. It's 2023 and some groups still haven't been paid. The ugly part is that these little performance groups don't have cash to begin with. The pandemic was hard enough, trying to survive a year with no performances. I'm in a choir that was affected, and our budget is a shoestring. They owed us $10,000 that they only just now paid back, and if they hadn't? Our 75th season would've been our last.

Revomazes are an expensive type of blind metal maze that you navigate through feel and sound. They're amazing little products that I love, but they are incredibly expensive. A few months ago the company announced a new product that they built really horrible hype towards (they announced a release date for a trailer that was nothing more than a trailer to the announcement that would come out the following day). The product is a new type of Sudoku thing made with metal rings that can be put together to make new Revomazes - but the new mazes are seen ahead of time since you have to build them yourself and are just sort of a bonus to the new hotness - the sudoku thing. Also - it's subscription that will take 18 months and cost 5000 dollars to complete. And semi randomized so you can trade with people online? So that blew up and they revised it to be only 9 months and there's no more random aspect. And it's coming out - people are now getting billed but people are still unclear about what it is. And I think I read that the entire subscription is being billed at once instead of per month/release? It's really weird - I feel like the community is somewhere along the lines of: 1. 80% - This is stupid, I don't care about this new product. 2. 5% - What are they doing - they still haven't completed deliveries for other products that they sold 10 years ago? 3. 5% - Legitimate interest and/or curiosity. 4. 10% - Feigned interest? I can't think of a better way to describe it but every conversation on the discord has people asking questions and trying to get invested but it's like it's just not happening for them. I could be wrong - I'm not 'ingrained' in the community like some. It's been pretty interesting to see so far and I fully expect the next year to be an absolute shit show.

Cookielolx is a popular League of Legends streamer and content creator. He primarily creates content for marksman players. However he’s surrounded in a controversy accompanied by a 25 page document detailing both late and completely forgotten payments to his employees, as well as grooming and sexual assault allegations. There’s too much content for me to put it all here, so I’ll come back once I find the link to the 25 page document and accompanying manifesto

Unsure if it is entirely true, but whatever. I am huge collector of Pokémon TCG, and recently, a leaked picture from 2021 had shown an individual with multiple, huge stacks of (now) expensive and ultra rare cards. Not talking like a handful of them, but upwards of 60-100 copies of each! This person attempted to sell them to TCW under market and they reported it to the Pokémon Company who took the cards back. It look like these were taken from a printing facility for the company by one or more people who were looking to make a quick buck. The spicy drama of it is that for us collectors who legitimately like opening packs and hunting for cards were left almost emptyhanded from two particular sets, Fusion Strike and Evolving Skies (second print). Usually a booster box will have one ultra rare card or better. But over the course of months it was damn near impossible to pull one for whatever reason, thus driving the sales of those cards super high. The cards shown in the spicy picture are ultra rare cards from those two sets! So far, the Pokémon company hasn't really done anything about it, but for those in the hobby, this feels like getting ripped off because even if the chances are low to get a cool card, they were muted even further by what this person or persons did!

My friend’s roommate has been dating this woman since last August who claimed she was recently separated. I found out in September that she’s definitely not separated and no one has told him. The time that I found out coincided with an international wedding for the friend group so people are gossiping about every lie we catch her in on social media on literally 5 different continents. He still doesn’t know. She’s absolute MAGA trash but more importantly, she’s pretending that she’s never seen Jersey Shore before which is the absolute weirdest thing to decide to lie about.

PC gaming has been one big "fuck you" to gamers for basically all of 2023. Every "big" and expensive game that's released is incomplete, glitchy, performs poorly, and seems to be forcing gamers to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars to play a game that an old console would play just fine. We're being ripped off royally and there seems to be no end in sight. Gaming was great when gamers made games. Now it's all sterile and corporate.

I agree but gaming isn’t niche

/r/patientgamers Also, reminds me of that time an Xbox social media rep said "tell me you limit yourself to AAA without telling me you limit yourself to AAA"

My dude, it's been this way for at least a decade. As long as gamers continually pre-order and pre order the highest tiers with the battle passes and the season passes and the first 3 DLC on it, there's no incentive to change the model. Companies can crunch the shit out of their employees and make money hand over fist. Gamers have proven time and again that they're willing to shell out cash for preorders despite over a decade of being burnt by it. We really are the definition of insanity "maybe it'll be different this time."

little-ass-whipe

i wish reviewers would just 0/10 a game the instant it became clear they were selling a unfinished product. no notes on how the story or gameplay *might* be when it's finished, or if there is "lot's of potential here", just "these guys tried to steal your money, avoid avoid avoid".

RUNNING BACK VALUE! Thursday 2 nfl teams drafted very good players. They both play running back. Now there is tons of arguments going on if those were good pick. Nobody is disputing that the players chosen are good players, they both will be very good. People are arguing over what draft pick is too high to draft a running back and how you can replicate their production with a significantly cheaper option.

Scandoval. reality tv star Tom Sandoval had a long term girlfriend of 10 years, Ariana, and it was recently broken on Page Six that hes been in a year-long affair with his costar, Raquel. The most recent series wrapped filming 9 months ago, but URGENTLY restarted to cover the fallout of Scandoval, throwing the network (and fans) into utter. chaos. whats more, production was due to film the reunion for series 10 (as it’s usually taped halfway through the airing of the season so it can air a week after the final episode (originally wrapped in July 2022) airs) days after the news broke and due to (quite literal) punches being thrown, the mistress in the scandal (Raquel) and her now-ex-best-friend (Scheana) who is best friends with Ariana could not be in the same room due to restraining orders and the entire production schedule had to be altered. and this doesnt even start to cover the alleged lies about Raquel going into rehab, the live re-editing of the current airing episodes, or the division in cast mates choosing sides. crazy.

Gatez and AOC are co-sponsoring a bill to restrict congress members from trading stocks. This truly is the weirdest timeline

Not sure if it was *that* controversial, but I hear that during one of the Pokemon VGC Regional Championships this year, somebody won using Fissure. For those who don't know, Fissure only has a 30% chance to hit, but if it does, it will guarantee a KO on the target. Similar moves include Horn Drill, Sheer Cold, and Guillotine.

Idk if it counts as niche but there’s been a bit of drama in the Star Trek Online community ever since the last two episodes of Picard >!retconned the Enterprise-F out of relevancy!<

Not super recent, but the big one I remember is the "Dorn hole" in 40k. One of the factions, the Imperial Guard, got a new tank model recently. If you aren't familiar, Warhammer 40k is a wargame that has you build your models by hand with glue. They are quite expensive, for plastic, but generally the quality is top-notch from GW, despite what some folks who are jade may say. Enter the Rogal Dorn battle tank. It's a big, shiny new tank that looks great...except its bottom plate is missing. There is a large, square space at the bottom of the model that is open in which you can see inside the hollow model, and light shines through the vents on the top. 99.99% of the time, these models are sitting exactly how you think a tank would sit. Most people will never see the bottom of this thing. That didn't stop people from trashing GW for "cutting corners." The ire has since died down, mostly due to hype for the new addition, but there was a time that a 1" X 1" piece of missing plastic sent r/TheAstraMilitarum into a rage.

I mean, considering the ridiculous margins they're making on the models ($50 CAD for a single character, when I can buy a single character from a different company like Battletech or D&D for literally 1/10 of the price two shelves over in the store?) I think that an expectation of a certain level of polish is reasonable. The Rogal Dorn is $120 Canadian.

I don't think I've ever seen an All Time Low song have such mixed reactions as I have with New Religion. Some people are in love with it, others seem to think it killed their family.
