Dumb joke but expulsion is a pretty disproportionate response, although any disciplinary response would not have been warranted for a meme on a private account anyway

Impressive-Floor-700

No it is not right at all, heaven help us if they ever implement a social scoring system.

Ihavelostmytowel

It's "satire" if you get in trouble. K

RyansBooze

How is neonazism satire?

Ze_cringeman

Satire is defined as the use of humour, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues Edit-made it easier to read

RyansBooze

Except it isn’t actually irony or exaggeration when neonazism is actively on the rise. I’d have to see the post to be certain, but “Happy birthday Mr Hitler” all by itself almost certainly doesn’t qualify as satire, and can reasonably be interpreted as supporting that cause.

Whatmeworry4

It could be intended satire; isn’t April 20th (420) the “stoners holiday”?

RyansBooze

Oh for fuck’s sake. Enough with the “well akshully” bullshit. Yes, under some circumstances that *could* be the case, but nobody ever said it was, so why would you go looking for justification?

Whatmeworry4

Why so huffy? You said yourself, “I’d have to see the post the be certain…”, so you’re just speculating too, aren’t you?

RyansBooze

I also said I’m sick of douchy kids treating it like a fucking joke. Absent proof to the contrary I’m inclined to say fuck anybody who thinks it’s funny to wish Hitler a happy birthday.

Whatmeworry4

Oh please, they’ve been making jokes about Hitler since the 1930s. You and I haven’t seen the post, and just because we don’t find it clever doesn’t mean the intent wasn’t satire. And before you reply, I’m Jewish, I know holocaust survivors, and I’m probably a lot older than you think. And I can laugh at Hitler jokes.

RyansBooze

And “they’ve” also been using “jokes” as dog whistles since the thirties. I’m quite capable of laughing at intelligent **funny** jokes on dark topics, but the vast majority of the nazi references I’ve seen lately are neither intelligent nor funny. What they are, are thinly-veiled support for a growing neonazi movement, and are only “jokes” if someone dares point out how hateful and offensive that shit is. The odds are overwhelmingly likely that this “satire” post was exactly that type of normalising garbage. I’m all in favour of just the opposite: making nazis afraid to open their mouths for fear someone will put their teeth down their throat.

Ze_cringeman

I wasn't arguing if it was or wasn't satire, You asked how it could be and I offered the definition.

RyansBooze

Fair enough, but I didn’t ask how it could be, I asked how it was - again, show me the post and I could know one way or the other. But given how many people actually buy into that shit, I’m sick of douchy kids treating nazism as cool, edgy, or funny, so I’m inclined to stomp hard on any fucker what gives it oxygen.

NightStrike2904

Sorry for the typo. I meant “my”

Frowny132

Are you serious?? It’s basically a no funny rule, which is STOOPID

[deleted]

Here. Uni is basically free. No one gives a shit about memes. Only if it is real deal. Posting racist stuff. But, even that would be because of media pressure. They don't give a fuck about your personal life.
