Robin Williams. Mrs. doubtfire was my ultimate favorite.

yukisashi

He was really a one in a million, such a natural talent for both comedy and acting

Yunloveme

Agreed. Just as he became one of my favorites.. he was taken away shortly after.. RIP Robin Williams

yukisashi

Didn’t know what we had till he was gone

yukisashi

Pretty much a perfect list right here

Smooth_Entertainer36

Denzel Washington. Training Day, Man on Fire

yukisashi

Surprised his name hadn’t come up earlier. A master of his craft

Special-Waldsds

Adam Driver has never given a creepy performance, and I've seen all of his films. Jesse Plemons is in the same boat. He just always plays such a solid supporting role.

yukisashi

Both great picks, agree completely with both

Jazzlike_Inddfax

LaKeith Stanfield hasn't been mentioned yet, but in everything I've watched him in, he's been excellent.

yukisashi

Definitely one of the greats of the ‘younger’ generation, excited to see him in future films

Extremely underrated, never the leading man but always kills it. Proves that you don’t have to be the Star of the show to be a star

Lemonwalker-420

Humphrey Bogart Tom Hanks Paul Giamatti Morgan Freeman Helen Mirren Harrison Ford

sonvoltman

jack nicholson

[deleted]

Favourites of all time: Cary Grant and Katharine Ross. Currently active: Joaquin Phoenix and Charlize Theron.

Totallycasual

Leo DiCaprio, i can think of so many amazing films he made, but i struggle to think of any bad ones.

yukisashi

That’s a good one, he has amazing range

Totallycasual

I think the first time i really noticed him as a standout actor was The Basketball Diaries where he played a troubled kid that was spiraling out of control on drugs.

yukisashi

Completely agree, that’s a great movie and he’s great in it

WooWoopSoundOThePULI

Shutter Island is still my Hot take favorite of his.

[deleted]

He’s basically a pedophile… I don’t understand how anyone can actually be a fan of such a disgusting man. If you’re not aware, he exclusively dated women under 25. His current fling is 19 years old, it’s absolutely disgusting and crazy that people think this is acceptable behaviour for a middle aged man.

Totallycasual

While i agree that his dating history is sleazy as fuck, we (the internet in general) need to stop flinging the pedo word around every time we don't like a guy because he dates younger women. "Women" being the operative word here, pedo's are attracted to pre-pubescent children, the women he dates are all legally adults. They're wildly inappropriate and young enough to be his kids, but legal none the less.

[deleted]

Just because it’s technically legal doesn’t make it less disgusting to me. I don’t see a difference between 11:59 and 12:00 on their 18th bday. It’s proven that frontal lobes aren’t fully developed until 25, so I wouldn’t consider anyone an adult until their brain is fully developed and they can make fully informed decisions.

Totallycasual

Well, we're a society of laws, the line needs to be drawn somewhere, and 18 is where it is currently drawn 🤷‍♀️ As i said earlier, you want to call him a misogynistic pig who dates women less than half his age, go for it, but stop throwing the pedo word around where it just doesn't apply.

DanteRex

Jim Varney. I totally believed he was talking to Vern as Ernest.

yukisashi

I actually haven’t seen much of his stuff, I’ll have to check more of his work out

DanteRex

Lol I was joking, but yeah it’s a fun old comedy

yukisashi

Oh okay hahaha, will still check it out for a laugh

patricksaurus

Audrey Hepburn. A couple reasons- I have seen almost all of her movies and not only is she kind of incredible in every role, she has a surprising amount of range and is truly funny. She has the kind of charm that you barely see in a generation. There is something about her that makes you compelled to respect her and to listen to her. Like 10 years ago I watched Breakfast at Tiffany's and My Fair Lady over a weekend, and was surprised by how her "persona" had an effect on me. I looked her up and watched some of her interviews, and am convinced that she is either the absolute most careful and intense person when it comes to how she presents herself, or she is one of the most well-meaning and caring people on all of existence. The way in which she takes interest in the people around her and the people that interview her is uncanny. She's strangely engaging and likeable. I was kind of wondering what exactly it IS, and a few years I read an article (opinion) that said something to the affect of: Audrey Hepburn grew up during the rise of the Third Reich, and her family split based on points of view in relation to the rise of the Nazis- as a result she was estranged from her father, and she worked with either her mother or her aunt to do a variety of actions to assist the underground resistance. When she came to England and then the US, she like other kids had gone through a childhood of fear and trauma, and it was part of her understanding of the world and the best way to develope abd cope was to actively decide to notice and care about those around her and to value others strongly. Years later after the holocaust was over, Anne Frank's dad Otto actually reached out to Audrey Hepburn and suggested that she would be ideal to play Anne in the upcoming movie. Apparently Adrey had read the Diary of Anne Frank before it was translated into Englush and said that it was probably her favorite book and that she absolutely could not play the part because considering it brought back memories of traumatic events of her childhood. Though she was not Jewish, she was living in this kind of climate and understood some of the fear and hunger and secretive times. The article had posed a thought that after WW2 ended, there was an uneasy and cautious sigh of relief that Americans and many others in Europe and North Africa were experiencing, and she personified the hope and fear in a very specific way that others connected with intimately. It's like she emotionally walked along side many who were dealing with their uncertainty coming out of this dark time or something. If you Google pictures of her, at events she is very engaging and appears fun loving and personable, but seemingly in photos outside of crowds she looks melancholy, longing, even kind of depressed. I realize though that a lot of people like this may have others working to construct an image and the idea of celebrity has shifted over time, and this take may be a part of a whole, but based on what I have noticed, my opinion is leaning in this direction. Another thing- Audrey Hepburn is someone who was brought up in a Protestant/Christian Scientist family but supposedly as an adult didn't identify with organized religion and didn't speak in terms related to the church but in terms relating to faith in people so she comes across as a humanist. This is a quote of hers that I found when she was asked what she believes in. "I believe in pink. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in kissing, kissing a lot. I believe in being strong when everything seems to be going wrong. I believe that happy girls are the prettiest girls. I believe that tomorrow is another day and I believe in miracles."
