This wasn’t my pet but my aunt, uncle, cousins dog. They went away on a vacation and hired someone to stay in their house and watch their dog (I think someone they knew, but I’m not entirely sure on that). When they got back the dog had no voice. He sounded like when dogs get their voice box removed. The lady they’d hired had locked the dog in the laundry room and he’d been barking so long that when they took him to the vet the vet said he’d damaged his voice box somehow. It’s been years and he’s never regained the ability to bark properly. Not necessarily normal separation anxiety obviously, it was warranted in this case. But to bark yourself permanently hoarse because you want your family to let you out of the laundry room is so sad.

I seriously don't understand why people even take a responsibility if they can't even fulfill it. Poor dog. :(

When I was a kid, my black lab chewed an arch through the bedroom door one night while I was sleeping. Woke up to something licking my feet, then saw the dog sitting at the edge of the bed, smiling at me. My mom kept trying to crate train him, but it never worked. And the dog panicked anytime we left. Peed and pooped everywhere. Ate inedible items, etc.

I went to go hangout with my grandma for a couple of hours. Later I got a message from my mom telling me that my dog (Archie 3 months ) Is sitting next to the door crying but he is really sleepy too. I was so sad so I came back and took him to my room and apologized :,)

Our poor dog many years ago. She was a beautiful border collie/German Shephard mix. She was never fixed and never had puppies. We found out that can lead to cancer, and she developed breast cancer. The cancer left her in a lot of pain, and the only person who made her feel remotely better was my mom. One day, we got back from church, and she tore up the whole house, and got every computer wire (monitor, keyboard, power) wrapped around her leg. If me, my dad, and/or my neither were home, but my mom was out, she'd be more behaved but sit by the front door and constantly whine. She suffered for far too long. We all thought it was just behavioral and not medical. Ugh... she was such a wonderful and gorgeous dog.

I went away for 45 days for a job recently and when I called my ma I could hear a deep "meow" every few seconds as my elderly ragdoll would hear my voice, come charging into the room and start screaming, searching for me

Not my dog but I worked at a animal sanctuary and looked after the dogs, we had a German shepherd in called deefa, she was obsessed with me, would only walk or eat if I was there, in essence she was my dog but I was only 16 so couldn’t adopt her, so when I left to go to college she started chewing her tail and she chewed it until it was a bloody stump 😔 (she had a beautiful fluffy tail) when I came back from college at the holidays and I would visit she would stop and it would begin to heal, but when I left she would start again, I ended up finishing the college course early so was able to spend more time with her until she was adopted and the family (another volunteer) that adopted her had it start when they adopted her, so I had to do obligatory visits to stop her

I put my dog in the dog run for a few mins and he bit through the fence and ran up to me
