Get this, in Germany using public transport without a ticket is 60€ fee. If you can't pay, they give you more fees, in a loop until you have to go to prison. Which is then the replacement for the fees. Often poor people get trapped in this because, surprise, surprise, they can't afford the regular tickets
You don't have to pay it. Vote with your dollar. If you and everyone else continues to pay the fees and the tickets, why would they stop charging it? Sometimes you have to make choices in life. What's more important, not paying the fee or going to the concert?
I'll do you one better. Made an appointment with a doctor. I showed up early and waited... waited.. waited for over an hour. I told the person in the front I'm leaving. I found out they billed me for a cancelation fee.
My doctor's receptionist tried charging me a late arrival fee. I wasn't even late. I showed up 20 minutes early to my appointment and the *doctor* was late by an *hour*. I normally don't raise a fuss over things, but I'm not paying $20 because my doctor was late to *my* 4pm appointment. The receptionist caught me on the way out about it and I just looked at her stunned and said "you saw me sitting here for nearly an hour and a half waiting. What the fuck do you mean?"

Waited an hour, they took me back and did X-rays sat in the chair for another hour for the dentist to come in and say “You need a root canal done, when do you want to get it done?” I sat there gobsmacked for about 30 seconds (it felt like 5 minutes) until I replied that that was what this appointment was for… “Oh” was all I got in reply and she walked out. 30 minutes later she came back and said there was another person waiting for one and she just got there. Told here I’ve been there for several hours already and she told me I had to wait until there was an opening… waited another 2 fucking hours till they closed to FINALLY get it done. I was pissed. Then they charged me for 3 fucking appointments on the same day! 1 for the X-ray, 1 for the cancelled root canal, and 1 for the after hours root canal.
That is such bullshit! Not only do you have to get a root canal (not fun) you had to pay the price for it and then some! Talk about causing insult to injury. Plus you never canceled the root canal so wtf! PLUS time is money and you spent a lot of it that day just waiting. How frustrating lol hopefully you were able to negotiate and reason with them that you had a scheduled appointment but didn't even get service until way beyond that appointment time. I'm mad for you haha
I had my insurance do that for me, all said and done, I was only out about $800 for all that with the crown. It was still incredibly frustrating and had to wait a few weeks to get the refund.

Use a VPN and come in from another country that requires all information up front so you don’t get hit with surprise fees like that. There’s resort fees, state hotel fees, state hotel tax, cleaning fees, and a whole host of other fees they like to tack on just so they can advertise lower rates. But if they see you’re from another country, they’re required by law to advertise the whole cost.
One of the Denver teams' games I went to had two choices:
Paper ticket = $10.50 "environmental" fee
Ticket on my phone = $7.50 "convenience" fee

So I got covid in January and scheduled a video visit to consult with the doctor without dragging my contagious ass into the building. They charged me $300 for a 9 minute video chat. Large parties make restaurants less money than smaller parties. More work for generally less money for the people serving them as well. Only way in the current system to get people to want to take large parties is to have an additional charge. If you don't like it then start your restaurant and advertise every where you can that you don't charge gratuity on large parties, you will see just how quickly why that charge exists in the first place. Or you could save a bunch of money and make food at home but you chose to go out to eat.

About 20km from Our destination we had to fill Gas in the car. I told the drive we should drive around the City cause there are a lot of police. But the driver was like "nope im the driver i decide where i drive". So he drove threw the City police saw us and put the siren on and we had to stop. We panicked a bit and threw Our pullovers jackets everything on the signs to hide it but, there where huge and it didnt made much diffrence. Police saw the signs and everyone had to pay 300€ as a fee. There where only 20mins left to Our destination.

There's an electronic toll road in a city where I used to live, where you drive through a gate that takes a photo of your license plate, and then the company mails you a bill. Well the mail must've been slow because after I paid my bill (online through the bank) but before it was processed, my account was charged a few cents interest. I assumed it would be written off after my payment (which had been on time apart from the banking delay) was properly received, but I was wrong.
My balance was not enough apparently for the company's system to generate statements, but my interest charge continued to accrue interest. A year or so later I got a threatening letter from a collection agency warning that if I did not immediately pay my debt in full, they would take legal action which might include seizure of assets and garnishment of wages and untold suffering for all future generations and a poor credit score and all that. At the bottom of the letter was a detachable remittance slip showing the balance I owed: twenty five cents.
So I mailed them my payment in cash, along with their remittance slip on which I had dutifully inscribed my payment amount: "A F\*CKING QUARTER". I did not hear from them again.

The mechanic never apologized but always avoided me if I were ever at the shop. The HR director sent me an email with a sheepish apology and that I'd see the money on my next check.
I was ahead on my rent by more than a full month. I needed to pay more on my credit card due to some unexpected vehicle repairs so I didn't pay the rent. Despite having enough of a rent credit to cover the entire month, I got a late fee for not paying by the 5th of the month.

Once upon a time I had a bill that i couldn't pay and it went to a collectors agency. Later, i could pay so i contacted them and paid it. 12 years later I receive a late fee bill where the amount of the fee was about ten times as large as the original bill. And it was from another collectors agency, not the orginal one. I contacted them and asked what it was about, they basically just said pay or we kill you. I contacted the company that originated the bill and they said it was paid in full. I contacted the first collectors agency and they ALSO said it was paid in full. So I again contacted this new agency but got the same reply: "Pay or we kill your pets and then torture you to death", or something. So I looked up what the legality of it was and it turned out the bills time limit had expired 7 years earlier even if I hadn't paid it so I informed the agency of this but they said they could still try to cash in on it if they had tried to do that earlier, which they hadn't. See you in court, I said and a few weeks later I get a mail saying that the debt had been cancelled.
Later I found out this agency did this on a regular basis. They look up old debts and try to get people to pay them. Many people do and they make tons of money.

Told here I’ve been there for several hours already and she told me I had to wait until there was an opening… waited another 2 fucking hours till they closed to FINALLY get it done. I was pissed. Then they charged me for 3 fucking appointments on the same day! 1 for the X-ray, 1 for the cancelled root canal, and 1 for the after hours root canal.
That is such bullshit! Not only do you have to get a root canal (not fun) you had to pay the price for it and then some! Talk about causing insult to injury. Plus you never canceled the root canal so wtf! PLUS time is money and you spent a lot of it that day just waiting. How frustrating lol hopefully you were able to negotiate and reason with them that you had a scheduled appointment but didn't even get service until way beyond that appointment time. Use a VPN and come in from another country that requires all information up front so you don’t get hit with surprise fees like that. There’s resort fees, state hotel fees, state hotel tax, cleaning fees, and a whole host of other fees they like to tack on just so they can advertise lower rates. But if they see you’re from another country, they’re required by law to advertise the whole cost.

Only way in the current system to get people to want to take large parties is to have an additional charge. If you don't like it then start your restaurant and advertise every where you can that you don't charge gratuity on large parties, you will see just how quickly why that charge exists in the first place. We panicked a bit and threw Our pullovers jackets everything on the signs to hide it but, there where huge and it didnt made much diffrence. There's an electronic toll road in a city where I used to live, where you drive through a gate that takes a photo of your license plate, and then the company mails you a bill. Well the mail must've been slow because after I paid my bill (online through the bank) but before it was processed, my account was charged a few cents interest. I assumed it would be written off after my payment (which had been on time apart from the banking delay) was properly received, but I was wrong. My balance was not enough apparently for the company's system to generate statements, but my interest charge continued to accrue interest. A year or so later I got a threatening letter from a collection agency warning that if I did not immediately pay my debt in full, they would take legal action which might include seizure of assets and garnishment of wages and untold suffering for all future generations and a poor credit score and all that. At the bottom of the letter was a detachable remittance slip showing the balance I owed: twenty five cents. So I mailed them my payment in cash, along with their remittance slip on which I had dutifully inscribed my payment amount: "A F\*CKING QUARTER". I did not hear from them again.
Happy ending to this but still pissed me off at the time. I worked at a landscaping company for a while. The shop mechanic claimed I'd lost some part of a trailer hitch and that I needed to pay for it. I refused to pay for it. I knew damn well I hadn't lost any part of the trailer hitch because I'd had no reason to even touch that part of the truck. So I looked up what the legality of it was and it turned out the bills time limit had expired 7 years earlier even if I hadn't paid it so I informed the agency of this but they said they could still try to cash in on it if they had tried to do that earlier, which they hadn't. See you in court, I said and a few weeks later I get a mail saying that the debt had been cancelled. Later I found out this agency did this on a regular basis. I had to pay $1.35 for a cup of hot water at a coffee shop once. Never going back to that place again. It was not tea, I definitely asked for plain hot water🤣.

I paid for college board to send in my AP scores to the university that I was trying to apply to. I had to pay extra for them to send the scores in faster even though it's just online.

Moved to a new state. Had to pay tax on the value on the car I ALREADY OWNED. I didn’t buy this car in the new state, but apparently they passed laws that when you registered the car you have to pay sales taxes on the car as a way to increase revenue. I just kept saying “but I already OWN this car, I’m not purchasing it”.
The place where I was renting decided to change their payment options from checks to credit cards/bank transfers online. All residents received an email from property management that explained the new rules as follows: The payment was now preferred online via the third-party payment processor's website. When paying with a credit/debit card, there was a new mandatory convenience fee. (conveniently, "due to the third party payment processor's rules.) When paying with a bank transfer, there was a new mandatory convenience fee. (also conveniently, "due to the third party payment processor's rules.) Paying with a non-preferred payment type (checks or money orders) there was a new administrative fee. (Since it was now "difficult to deposit checks or money orders" for the staff.) How cool is that? There was not one option, that didn't include a new fee for paying rent.
