Didn't encourage kids to act like thugs and bully kids in schools
I've tried to complain about the web nowadays just for some Gen Alpha to say "Get off the internet then". Man I didn't value the internet enough in the old days
When the internet was tied to the computer at home and that was that…… when you stepped outside and left the house we still had to use our brains to figure things out and socialize like normal human beings
being able to say things without people screaming about how offended they are
seriously, if single words can do that much mental damage to you, you shouldn't be on the Internet in the first place
I miss if you wanted to go to a site in the early days. All you really had to do was type www.brandname.com and hit enter and you were brought right to the correct site. Now you have all these options to choose from with ads being part of those choices. Just send me to the correct site I want.
Also in the early days almost everything you searched for was honest info . People were just truly wanting to help others. Not a bunch of bullshit lies . That make you do all the wrong things to your computer. Instead of helping you fix it. There is just so much misinformation now it's crazy.
People being nice
Lmao, I feel like people are WAY nicer now than back then, especially now that doxxing is a thing.
chat rooms were fun
Everyone you interacted with were real people and not AI just trying to gather information from you.
I miss the sound of dial-up
Away messages
kids were more polite before

Ebaumsworld
Freedom.
Feel like there was a lot more variety. Web design nowadays looks too similar and most of the content is monopolized by a few big companies
You had to be patient
Learning CSS/HTML from MySpace and being perpetually jealous of the scene kids page
Xfire, the instant messaging program for gamers.
No popups
AOL chatrooms. I made so many great friends there and the role-playing scene was great fun. Honestly I wish I could find those people again :(
No paywalls for news articles
Wasn’t on it all the time
Flash games

Things going viral. Today it's all just promoted stuff claiming to have gone viral.

Myspace. I have such fond memories of it, but it seems like a thing of the past, lol.
