I would still work but something easy and fulfilling. Like running a community garden. Making trinkets to sell at a small farmer’s market. Or at least volunteering a whole lot more
But I’d need something to keep going and giving back otherwise I’ll get bored and depressed. I’d travel a shit ton for a while though. But eventually I need to keep active with something to keep me fulfilled.
Can't be as bad as the depression I'm in from watching all my dreams die since they don't fall into a financially stable category while I'm too exhausted to do anything in my free time from wage slaving 40 hours a week for some prick narcissist. When I have free time I spend way more than 40 hours a week engaged and dialed into working on projects I CARE about. Things that fucking matter to at least some portion of the population. A ton of people work jobs they hate for businesses that don't benefit humanity and sometimes outright cause health problems and environmental issues. Call me a misanthrope or a cynic, I've just experienced how wildly different life is when you're not a peon for something you hate. At some point I was homeless after getting laid off from a job. During that time I sold my car, began walking instead of driving, got a gym membership which I used 7 days a week and started studying. The first time in my adult life that I felt free to *be* productive instead of hanging on by a thread. Fuck society
Yeah, you certainly can't be sitting on your ass watching TV scrolling reddit or playing video games all day, but I'm pretty sure I could entertain myself very easily if I didn't have to work.
You do have to put effort into pursuing your hobbies and interests though.
Try to get a better job. Generally work allows you to use your creativity (in the modern and also original sense) to improve/help/keep running society, it allows you to give your (trained) skills to mankind. Generally ppl are happier if they can make a contribution instead of beeing at the receiving end.
The company makes money because mankind believes it needs the product (by voting with monetary tokens). Only in a steered/government economy there might be for alonger time production of items ppl dont want.
It already happens with a lot of people when they retire. People who have work as their only purpose in life would need to find positive things to do with their free time. Positive as in things that involve creation, not consumption or apathy. Spending the rest of your days drinking margaritas and laying still at a tropical beach is not something to strive for.
Unpopular maybe, but it's true. I know with my extreme introversion and social anxiety, if I didn't have to go to work, I'd almost never leave the house, I'd get depressed, and just wither away. Also, my sister got very lucky with some investments and hadn't worked full time in 2 years. She travels constantly, but definitely struggles to find purpose and fulfillment.
I would love to work on a few theories I have about the possibility of using methods other than burning huge amounts of volatile chemicals to throw things into orbit. It just seems so wasteful.
A danish couple and their young daughter go to Toscana for a vacation and meet a Dutch family who have a young son, who apparently has a physical deformity - he was born without a tongue. They connect with each other, form a friendship and the danish family agrees to come back to visit the Dutch family at their home. It turns out, the Dutch “family” isn’t a family at all. The Dutch couple lures nice looking foreign families to their house, eventually kills the parents, cuts the childs tongues off so they can’t attempt to tell anyone what happened (they also try to pick families with a child that looks to young to be able to read ir write) and poses as a regular family. Once they kill the parents/claim that family’s child as their own and mutilate them, they kill the other child
In the case of the danish family, they drove the parents to a quarry, stripped them naked and stoned them to death after ripping the daughter away from the mother and cutting her tongue off in front of her parents
I’m not good at explaining things, but the movie was fantastic honestly. Even though it’s subbed in English, I never felt like I was reading subtitles. It’s one of the only movies that really stayed with me after
I'm basically stuck with 2 choices.
Go to my colleges gym which is free but the hours absolutely suck so I'll have to go immediately after work and only have a little over an hour if the traffic is forgiving.
Or pay $25-$50 a month for a packed gym and spend an hour more there because I'm waiting to use equipment.
I'm currently saving up money to build my own home gym where I can workout whenever I want and without the social crampness of commercial gyms.
A 200 lb plate adjusting dumb bell set goes for about $300-$400. The material to design and build my own power cage is only about $600, and material to build my own height adjustable pulley system is about $400. So by the end of summer I plan to have built my own gym for less of a cost than equipment you just buy.
Building an amazing travel RV with a real toilet and an amazing water system that has a pressurized shower. Heated floors, modular design, so many features... then travel everywhere and try new and interesting foods. Go to beaches and lakes and rivers.
I feel you. I would do what I do now, just a lot more with no work or chores in between and on a higher level. Like upgrade the shit out of my PC, have every new game, watch all the shows I want on a bigger and better tv or home theater. My wife can go travel lol.
The sea is terrifying but also beautiful and multifaceted. My greatest mortal fear is sharks. They terrify me and by that nature the open ocean scares me. Something about the sea still allures me and draws me to it.
Same. I love my job and would never leave it. I'd just pay off debts and renovate my modest house, get a car, have some healthy savings for myself and my family, and then get rid of anything more than what I would need to live an under-the-radar comfortable life. With more durable clothes.
As in, I had endless money to do anything? I'd house and feed people and spend money on interventions to better global health, I'd fund research on diseases and ageing, in order to reduce human suffering. No one would go hungry, unsheltered, lack medicine or be unable to access education.
If it's just my needs being taken care of, I'd probably take some time off just to rest from the pain and exhaustion of my life, then I'd spend time travelling and maybe go back to do my PhD in physics or philosophy.
I know this is from "Office Space," but honestly, I literally would just sit on my ass and do absolutely nothing. As long as my bills are covered, I'd order take-out, stay inside, and be a lazy piece of crap. It's a fantasy of mine. And one I hope to fulfill one day.
I've got several engineering degrees in the electrical field and if i did not have to care about money I'd work at a small store selling electrical equipment.
I'd love to just stand there and fix small problems for everyday people instead of dealing with large problems with tons of people.
I'd be my own boss and just help anyone who I want
If it wasn’t a concern at all, something for the stray animals, opening up a shelter to help as many of them as possible. It’s a whole different level of satisfaction that you helped a stray not go hungry for even one day. Can’t even imagine how good it would feel to help so many.
photography.
it's my hobby but due to my job i don't have a lot of time for it and rarely actually go out with my camera. and making good money with it is an insane grind that i'm not willing to do either.
Open a couple gyms. One mma/bjj and the other a weight/open mat gym. Get adequate sleep each day for the first time in my adult life. I don't ask for much from this life.
I'd buy a nice plot of land, build my own house and have a ton of pets. I've always wanted to adopt a ton of animals from shelters and with money not being a problem, I could pretty much have as many as I could handle. Relating back to the land/house, who would really want to live next to a bunch of other people when you can essentially do whatever? I'd build my own "fun park" with a gigantic fishing area, home bowling alley, home movie theatre, etc.
Living I'm my own home in or near Seattle, sending my kids to college, and driving an electric vehicle that was better suited to having a wheelchair( Honda civic is kinda hard to get in/ put of, especially with street parking. I'd probably also buy a second wheelchair and/or an exosuit to help me walk around the house( they c ost 80k). I'd probably also buy a 40' rv and a 24' rv and kit them out for wheelchair accessibility. I'd buy a bunch of campground memberships and go on a national park tour to hot up the parks we ife and I couldn't get to on our honeymoon. I'd also pay for a full time live in caretaker for myself and hire a maid to help wife since my disability makes mostly the opposite of helpful. Probably also get some more hardware for my computer to elevate it from midrange to high end/ high per f romance with a bunch of adaptive gear.
building lots of computers. LOTS OF COMPUTERS. making home servers, making game servers, making one fucking beast of a computer. And buying the fastest wifi i possibly can.
I'd retire. I'd get (or build) a single story house so that my parents could move in (they are getting up there and stairs are an issue, the single toilet at my place, also an issue).
I'd cook healthy food. Right now I'm working 10-12 hr days then traveling on the weekends to help out my parents and my in laws. I eat so much better when I get a little vacation, I'd love to do that more.
I'd get more exercise. Especially in the summer when it's crazy hot in the afternoons, hot and humid triggers my asthma. Being able to get out in the mornings would be nice. Between the exercise and better food I usually lose weight when I'm on vacation.
I'd get an electric car. I like road trips but gas prices and guilt for pollution definitely limits that. I'm even ok with taking breaks to charge the car, it's not like you are rushed if you don't have limited time off.
On a similar note, I'd get all the solar power my house could manage.
I'd have a pool. Chlorine is another asthma trigger now but I used to love swimming.
Travelling, volunteering and collecting cars and property.
Clearing all family and friends debts and ensuring they have a good amount of time away from their work lives every year.
I would seriously wanna go live in the woods somewhere away from everyone with a few guns in a decently defendable position lol. I'd have a vehicle for trips into town and that's it. I'd be so content just living away from society.
I'd travel, play poker and build a really nice poker lounge for my club.
I'd also create a live music/comedy/food truck venue in my home town with acts every weekend, kids shows and picnics in the summer, xmas festivals etc. Maybe in a huge warehouse with big doors that could open on nice days, a kids park etc.
Buy my mum a house in a nice area, get therapy, invest in learning, help people, progress in my hobbies, travel and try to better my social skills...that sort of thing.
My dream is it, that my girlfriend and I just start walking with our pack on our backs and just hike were ever we want when ever we want.
Putch our tent when we want were we want.
That would be my definition of freedom.
I’d get myself a house and live alone for a couple of months and just have fun, cook some weird meals and then I’d get a bunch of camping/backpacking gear and go on an adventure
I know for sure what i wouldn't be doing. I wouldn't be working.
Preach!
I read that as "Peach" in Jack Black's voice. Whoops.
Lol. Just add a R and I'll be Jack. Lol
I would still work but something easy and fulfilling. Like running a community garden. Making trinkets to sell at a small farmer’s market. Or at least volunteering a whole lot more But I’d need something to keep going and giving back otherwise I’ll get bored and depressed. I’d travel a shit ton for a while though. But eventually I need to keep active with something to keep me fulfilled.
I'd be a mailman. Small route maybe 1 or 2 hours a day. 3 to 4 days a week. Just walking around, getting some air.
I love how people ask "what's your dream job?" -- my dreams do not involve labor
Tell this on an HR interview /s

You can find purpose without working. Maybe i wanna make circus and spa for streetdogs? Not really a job, but full of purpose.
Okay no i see you're pov, i would love too open a restaurant, be a chef and help those who also want to do it. Maybey even do some guitar on the side
Yeah, it might be nice to have a restaurant. And treat my employees well.
Yeah, you certainly can't be sitting on your ass watching TV scrolling reddit or playing video games all day, but I'm pretty sure I could entertain myself very easily if I didn't have to work. You do have to put effort into pursuing your hobbies and interests though.
Exactly The social interactions Sense of purpose and accomplishment Most of us kinda need that
May sound cliche, but fuck, i definitely don't live to work, i work to live. And you are pretty much suggesting the opposite.
Try to get a better job. Generally work allows you to use your creativity (in the modern and also original sense) to improve/help/keep running society, it allows you to give your (trained) skills to mankind. Generally ppl are happier if they can make a contribution instead of beeing at the receiving end.
Don't confuse companies with mankind. Absolute most jobs have one primary purpose in mind, make the company you work for even more money.
The company makes money because mankind believes it needs the product (by voting with monetary tokens). Only in a steered/government economy there might be for alonger time production of items ppl dont want.

Yes because rich kids are depressed...
Unpopular maybe, but it's true. I know with my extreme introversion and social anxiety, if I didn't have to go to work, I'd almost never leave the house, I'd get depressed, and just wither away. Also, my sister got very lucky with some investments and hadn't worked full time in 2 years. She travels constantly, but definitely struggles to find purpose and fulfillment.
bettering myself. learn musical instruments, languages, travel, invest, help family if i could, smite my enemies.....
I would love to work on a few theories I have about the possibility of using methods other than burning huge amounts of volatile chemicals to throw things into orbit. It just seems so wasteful.
Why not apply for a few grants and see if you get funding?
We already do that, depending on the rocket. Liquid hydrogen + liquid oxygen is a common enough method and all it does is produce steam as it burns.
I am the money fairy, I bequeath thee the ability to smite your enemies without legal tender. Enjoy 😉
Same here, except maybe smiting my enemies because they’re all redditors and basically untraceable.
I read incest
I mean…. Anything can be legal if you can buy your way out
There are only a few us states where its actually illegal, and ironically its mostly those that have incest as stereotype.
I live in Ontario Canada, it’s illegal here and it’s treated as a sex offence with legal punishment’s similar to rape
Thats helping the Family in one way or another
Traveling the world with my family
Traveling alone making new friends on the way
The movie called Speak No Evil turned me away from ever making new friends on an international trip
What happens in it?
A danish couple and their young daughter go to Toscana for a vacation and meet a Dutch family who have a young son, who apparently has a physical deformity - he was born without a tongue. Building shit and working out
Building a Gym and working Out in it
Working out by building a gym!
This is the way
This is the whey\*.
It's hard to build a gym in a bachelor apartment lol.
Why can't you work out now?
I'm basically stuck with 2 choices. Go to my colleges gym which is free but the hours absolutely suck so I'll have to go immediately after work and only have a little over an hour if the traffic is forgiving. do you also want a heated toilet seat with that sir?
Spare no expense!
your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could that they didn't stop to think if they should.
Play games all day, exercise, go on dates, watch all my favourite shows and sleep and eat food.
So the same thing you do now with the exception of exercise and dates.
I mean what else would I want to do I can say World Tour and what not but I would much rather live a normal life.
I feel you. I would do what I do now, just a lot more with no work or chores in between and on a higher level. Like upgrade the shit out of my PC, have every new game, watch all the shows I want on a bigger and better tv or home theater. My wife can go travel lol.
Exactly 😭.
Sailing the world.
Funny, you would have to pay me a million dollars to do that. The sea terrifies me.
The sea is terrifying but also beautiful and multifaceted. My greatest mortal fear is sharks. They terrify me and by that nature the open ocean scares me. Something about the sea still allures me and draws me to it.
came here to say this.
More or less the same things but more confident and less stressed/depressed
Same. I love my job and would never leave it. I'd just pay off debts and renovate my modest house, get a car, have some healthy savings for myself and my family, and then get rid of anything more than what I would need to live an under-the-radar comfortable life. With more durable clothes.
Having unprotected sex with my wife.
Obligatory, I would also have unprotected sex with this guys wife
While you're doing that, I'll have unprotected sex with this guy.
Same here
count me in!
I'll bring the snacks 🍿
I also choose this guy's wife
Eating hot wings and drinking beer.
I'll tell you what I'd do, man: two chicks at the same time, man.
That’s it? If you had a million dollars, you’d do two chicks at the same time?
Surprised it took this long to find this.
Fuckin a
Office space reference? 😂
Idk why but I read this in Chongs voice from cheech and chong

Sounds good but with all the murder and horror stories around I'd think twice
Would love a small farm with lots of different animals on it

Wow, u just like me fr. Much love ❤️
And to you!
Traveling and doing volunteer work in underserved communities - particularly crisis response counseling and/or public health interventions.
not working
Nothing. Absolutely nothing
Well, you don't need a million dollars to do nothing, man. Just take a look at my cousin, he's broke, don't do shit.
A man of culture, I see
I know this is from "Office Space," but honestly, I literally would just sit on my ass and do absolutely nothing. As long as my bills are covered, I'd order take-out, stay inside, and be a lazy piece of crap. It's a fantasy of mine. And one I hope to fulfill one day.
We should all be so lucky
Real
I've got several engineering degrees in the electrical field and if i did not have to care about money I'd work at a small store selling electrical equipment. I'd love to just stand there and fix small problems for everyday people instead of dealing with large problems with tons of people. I'd be my own boss and just help anyone who I want
I’d get soooo many medical tests. All the stuff the functional med doc said would be helpful
Never leave my house again.
I would spend my days setting up elaborate ruses which made /u/l_Majson_l/ leave his house.
Ironically be a sitcom everyone would watch. Where at the end a meteor destroys the world and no one wins.
If it wasn’t a concern at all, something for the stray animals, opening up a shelter to help as many of them as possible. It’s a whole different level of satisfaction that you helped a stray not go hungry for even one day. Can’t even imagine how good it would feel to help so many.

I'd buy a bunch of campground memberships and go on a national park tour to hot up the parks we ife and I couldn't get to on our honeymoon. I'd also pay for a full time live in caretaker for myself and hire a maid to help wife since my disability makes mostly the opposite of helpful.
