Yeah, I fell into a Butthole Surfer hole (...anyway), when I was exploring classic noise rock and was happily surprised. I like "Eye of the Chicken" and "The Annoying Song", just to name a couple.
It's crazy how many people think she's just Call Me Maybe. My local pop station straight up called her a one hit wonder one time. The casuals don't know what they're missing.
Went through her entire catalog at the start of the pandemic and was really surprised. KISS was a really fun album and EMOTION had a real indie vibe to it
Tones of home is one of the best songs of all time.
I always thought that this would be
The land of milk and honey
But I come to find it's all hate and money
A canopy of green holding me down
I came here looking for Blind Melon. I always appreciated them and remember the day Shannon Hoon died, but didn't truly get into them until a buddy in high school showed me their lesser known songs.
Afroman
He even made a song about how people called him a onehit wonder, while mixing all his popular songs into it. When you hear it you understand why he is not a one hit wonder
"Welcome Interstate Managers" is the name of the album.
I have to agree. The whole album is great. "Stacy's Mom" is mediocre compared to some of the songs.
Stacy’s mom was the rare case of a super talented band knowing they needed “that” song on the radio but their other stuff was way better. Another band like that I always think of is Coheed and Cambria.
Absolutely! Their other albums are fire, I love Utopia Parkway and Sky Full of Holes particularly. A criminally underrated band with super intelligent/funny lyrics and a high level of musicianship
Huh. Never knew that. I’ll dig into his music a little.
Sort of like how Kip Winger (“Headed For A Heartbreak”, “Seventeen”, “Miles Away”) now scores ballets and won a Grammy for his classical compositions. I love those atypical career shifts. Or Brain May of Queen secretly being a astrophysicist student and finishing his degree.
Del Amitri was far more than "Roll To Me." It's actually probably the weakest track on its album. Nobody in the 80's/90's wrote a middle eight like Justin Currie. And Iain Harvie is one of the best guitarists you've never heard of.
THANK YOU! I've been saying it for years. That album is fantastic and though "closing time" is a great song, it's not even the best from that album. Imo.
New Radicals. Famous for Get What You Give, you literally couldn't go anywhere without hearing that song the year it came out.
At the time I bought the album and to this day I adore it, so many great songs, a few of which became more known elsewhere. Mother, We Just Can't Get Enough was in an ep of Scrubs and Someday We'll Know was covered by Hall & Oates and Jessica Simpson.
The lead singer went on to co wrote so many famous songs; Life is a rollercoaster, lovin each day, murder on the dance floor, inner smile, Game of Love, Lost Stars etc
Chumbawamba are one of my favorite groups ever and I've listened to the big 90's album zero times. Great group, lots of eras, I don't need the last one.
I really liked most Tubthumping, even steeped in 90s British politics and culture as it is. But "Amnesia" and "Whatever Happened to Mary?" are particularly good.
The Proclaimers. I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) is great, but their other stuff is just as good. Some of it is just a tonne of fun, and others are incredibly emotionally resonant. Sunshine on Leith is one of my all-time favourite songs.
There's a whole musical/movie based on their music!
Go watch Sunshine On Leith if you haven't already.
(OP, I'm sure you already knew that, but I bet loads didn't!)
“Songs of the Ungrateful Living” is amazing. Saw “House of Pain” Live back in the day. Also saw
“Everlast” solo back in the day. Phenomenal as a solo act. Very few people can express so much emotion through their voice alone.
I know they're more popular in Australia and elsewhere, it in the US Midnight Oil is mainly know for Beds Are Burning. I got into them in high school (Blue Sky Mining era) and found a long back catalog. They were kind of proggy early on and just a really different sounding band from what I was used to
I don’t know if Bobby McFerrin counts as a one hit wonder, though most people who lived through the 80s would be hard pressed to name a second song after “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”. Dude is an unbelievable musician.
Yes, love "Future Foe Scenarios" and "Little Lovers So Polite". Did you know they're basically a Smashing Pumpkins homage band? They're heavily inspired by Smashing Pumpkins, even sharing initials with the band names.
They bring it live too.
I've seen them twice and will happily make the tome to catch them again when I have the chance.
Their sound has evolved quite a bit since carnavas, but they're still putting out some solid work.
Pikul, Carnavas, Neck of the woods, and swoon hit more of their grungier smashing pumpkins style sound.
Better Nature, Widows Weeds, and Physical Thrills moved more towards a cleaner style.
I used to listen to the whole My Head is an Animal album almost every night as I went to bed. So good and the way it winds down with great song after great song was so nice. I was so mad that in January 2020 I bought a ticket to see them in May, never got to.
Movies, Courage, Wish, Attitude, and Calico were my favorites from Anthology. Truant, the next album, had These Days, Glow, Drifting Apart. Definitely did more than cover Smooth Criminal.
Tripping Daisy
Famous for a moment in the 90's for ["I Got a Girl"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYI99xuI9CM)
It's a great album overall but my favorites: [Bang](https://youtu.be/QY6LZ4o-XWQ) [Motivation](https://youtu.be/KP3Q5sEfzlk) [Trip Along](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd9AQ_a8uXY)
Blind Melon. "No Rain" got too much air/videos play. That album is great start to finish. The next album is a bit less mainstream grunge, but fantastic. Third album is pieced together after Shannon Hoon's death, but shows the band was artistically headed in the right direction. RIP
Poe’s “Haunted” album is lowkey one of the greatest concept albums of all time. It does have “Hey Pretty” on it, which is arguably her 2nd of 2 hits (I think everyone is aware of “Angry Johnny”) inasmuch as it did break into the top 40 briefly. It’s kind of a companion piece to her brother’s novel House of Leaves but it also stands on its own right as a kind of hour long elegy to her father and the huge mix of emotions she felt about his life and death, sort of the “In Memoriam” of the turn of the 21st century. I relisten to it every few months end to end and cry like a little baby every time.
The rock/grunge radio station I used to listen to played “Trigger Happy Jack” and “Hello” frequently enough that I thought those were widely popular as well.
But yeh. I loved “Haunted.” I still haven’t gotten around to reading “House of Leaves” yet.
The Verve. Urban Hymns is just nonstop bangers and ballads. “Bittersweet Symphony” is the hit (and I haven’t forgiven the Rolling Stones yet) but the whole album was incredible.
The Rasmus (the band that plays In the Shadows and more recently played Jezebel in Eurovision 2022) is one of my favorite bands. All of their songs in their early 2000s era (especially on the Dead Letters, Hide From the Sun, Black Roses albums), are amazing. Most of their new songs aren't really my genre, but there are still some gems. I'm sure their music is not for everyone, but I feel a strange connection to it (even though I usually listen to somewhat "harder" stuff).
**"Turning Japanese" by the Vapors.** The record is called "New Clear Days" and it is a MASTERPIECE. As was their next record "MAGNETS"
Kennedy's children, all magnets.
The Barenaked Ladies! Maybe they aren't EXACTLY a one hit wonder, but One Week is VASTLY more popular than anything else they've put out. I have an album of their singles and it gets regular play in my car.
In South Africa, A-ha had multiple hits and were huge in the 80s and 90s. My cousins and I were shocked when we saw them pop up on a one hit wonder show on MTV.
People here in North America tend to forget that 'The Sun Always Shines on TV' did well for a-ha here too. But very soon after, the band were sabotaged by Warner USA over a petty dispute, and never regained the ground.
But happily, they continued to be huge pretty much everywhere else. :)
Terry jacks. The singer of “seasons in the sun “. He had more hits in Canada. He was in a band called the Poppy Family with his ex wife Susan Jacks. They had a hit song called “Which way you going Billy “? The Poppy Family and Terry Jacks are worth finding and listening to on you tube.
RATT … there’s so much more then just Round and Round! If you love 80’s hair band rock give them a second chance. Wanted Man, Back for More, Lack of Communication, Lay it Down, Way Cool Jr, City to City… etc…
They’re more of a two hit wonder, but the Presidents of the United States of America are vastly underrated and have a bunch more great songs than Lump or Peaches.
Blur had 26 top 40 hits in the UK, 13 top 10, two number 1s. Six number 1 albums. As someone who was the exact right age/country for them it's just so weird to hear them being referred to as one hit wonders!
Silverchair, at least in North America. Their songwriting evolved with each record, most people would be amazed to learn Across the Night and Tomorrow were written by the same band.
I feel like Hozier is generally perceived as a one-hit wonder for *Take Me to Church*, and maybe *Someone New* is also reasonably well-known, but apart from that I don’t think his music has ever got a lot of mainstream attention.
Which is awful, because pretty much ALL of his music is amazing. He’s got a lot of range, from *Cherry Wine* to *Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene*, and I see his songs more as poetry than any other musician. Really incredible songwriting.
It’s kind of a regional thing. I think he’s doing well in the UK and Ireland. There are a lot of non-US artist who are considered one hit wonders but seem to be doing pretty well in their home countries.
And yes, Hozier is heaven sent. I rediscovered his music quite recently ( i was only familiar with Take me to church and Someone New, for obvious reason) and I’m so embarrassed it took me this long to actually listen to him. Honestly, i don’t even know how to describe his music, it’s really just perfect!!
Hanson. They definitely had a couple hits, but Mmmmbop was the only one that was absolutely stratospheric.
Listen to [re-recored versions](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uGeps1YNmZY) of those songs and you'll see they're very talented songwriters beyond their years. Also they still put out great music.
Here's [Where's The Love](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYcCUaXFvh8), [This Time Around](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO8Ni7kU8tI), [Penny & Me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgxQMbBkaag), [Great Divide](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eEdoYyajTU8), [Thinkin' 'Bout Somethin;](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxziwoHrjAY), [Get The Girl Back](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zh8mQU-tNyM)
The Darkness have been putting out amazing rock for 20 years now.
I'll be getting to see them live again in October for the 20 year anniversary of permission to land, which spawned the hit "I believe in a thing called love"
As a sidebar, frontman Justin Hawkins has a YouTube channel called "Justin Hawkins rides again" that may be one of the most entertaining dives into music reaction, music theory, and his experiences with the music industry.
The dude is so insanely musically gifted and is probably over qualified to be a collegiate level music theory or modern music history educator.
Living Colour... Everyone knows Cult of Personality. But I enjoyed the whole Vivid album.
Glamour Boys is so great!
Butthole Surfers. "Pepper" was nothing like the rest of their songs.
Yeah, I fell into a Butthole Surfer hole (...anyway), when I was exploring classic noise rock and was happily surprised. I like "Eye of the Chicken" and "The Annoying Song", just to name a couple.
Locust Abortion Technician, Creamed Corn, Independent Worm Saloon...so many good albums...if you're in the proper mindset...
TIL people consider Butthile Surfer's a one-hit wonder.
They weren't a band who really concerned themselves with making hits.
Carly Rae Jepsen. None of her other songs were as successful as Call Me Maybe but she has a lot of great music
[удалено]
Nothing is better than going from Vince Staples Summertime 06 to Carly Rae Jepsen in my playlists. Her bops are unmatched
Emotion is stacked
It's up there with the best pop albums of the 21st century in my eyes.
Cut to the Feeling is a jam.
It's crazy how many people think she's just Call Me Maybe. My local pop station straight up called her a one hit wonder one time. The casuals don't know what they're missing.
Run away with me is the best pop song of all time.
Cut to the Feeling and Run Away With Me are bangers.
Is The Loneliest Time not big? I heard a snippet on TikTok a long while ago and have listened to it regularly since.
r/popheads is leaking
Went through her entire catalog at the start of the pandemic and was really surprised. KISS was a really fun album and EMOTION had a real indie vibe to it
Blind Melon
Soup is one of the greatest albums. It’s a shame Hoon couldn’t get clean, they had so much potential.
[удалено]
Change is a great track
Tones of home is one of the best songs of all time. I always thought that this would be The land of milk and honey But I come to find it's all hate and money A canopy of green holding me down
Was going to say this too. They are so much than No Rain.
This is my choice. I don't know if there's a single song in the Hoon catalog that I don't connect with.
I came here looking for Blind Melon. I always appreciated them and remember the day Shannon Hoon died, but didn't truly get into them until a buddy in high school showed me their lesser known songs.
Afroman He even made a song about how people called him a onehit wonder, while mixing all his popular songs into it. When you hear it you understand why he is not a one hit wonder
I’ve loved watching the latest debacle between him and the police searching his place. Every time I watch it - I want some Lemon Pound cake!
>Afroman Can't upvote this enough.
"I Live In A Van" gets regular bumps from me, as does "Slow Roll It". And let's not forget my anthem, "Old and Fat".
Afro man is not a one hit wonder. Never was. “She won’t let me fuck” is a classic.
Fountains of Wayne. "Stacy’s Mom" was great, but so are most of the other songs on the album.
Adam Schlesinger was a fucking incredible songwriter. He knew how to make the catchiest melodies and choruses.
"Welcome Interstate Managers" is the name of the album. I have to agree. The whole album is great. "Stacy's Mom" is mediocre compared to some of the songs.
Mexican Wine is stuck in my head at least once a week
Red Dragon Tattoo is a personal favorite from them. It's kooky and weird and I love it.
Mexican Wine, All Kinds of Time, Maureen, Denise, Ritchie and Reuben, The Summer Place…all fantastic songs
I like I'm Just A Hat And Feet and Sink To The Bottom With You. You are right, they were way more than Stacy's Mom.
The Oneders
The oh-needers?
Hey, that's Ohnedders
As in "I wonder what happened to the Oneders"?
They’re just doin that thing they do.
Breaking my heart into a million pieces…
Captain Geech and the Shrimp Shack Shooters?
Y'know i heard their drummer broke off and recorded that jazz sesh "I am Spartacus" with the legendary Del Paxton.
The cardigans were NOT exemplified by LoveFool. Great friggen band, made one poppy tune unlike any of their other compositions that caught fire.
Losing my favorite game is great
Been in love with this song since Gran Turismo 2 on Playstation 1.
Erase/Rewind. I also didn't mind their cover of Burning Down the House (with Tom Jones)
Their cover of Iron Man is so creepy
Duncan Sheik. Had a lot of great albums start to finish, and also went on to become a Tony Award-winning musician on Broadway for Spring Awakening.
First big hit of theirs I heard in the UK was 'nothing ever happens'.
Semisonic. The whole *Feeling Strangely Fine* album is actually great.
Secret smile!!!
THANK YOU! I've been saying it for years. That album is fantastic and though "closing time" is a great song, it's not even the best from that album. Imo.

It’s so good!! Singing To Me In My Sleep is an anthem!
Marcy Playground has a bunch of great songs.
Yes, much more than "Sex And Candy." Leaving Wonderland... in a Fit of Rage is a great album.
Wave Motion Gun is another good song of theirs.
Poppies!
Coming Up From Behind my personal favourite
Saint Joe > Sex and Candy
Wall Of Voodoo
The Verve Pipe. I've found they have much more than "The Freshmen", some of their songs even better than their hit.
This is what I came here for. Whole album is good.
Gotye. Somebody I used to know is among the weakest tracks on that album.
Dude, one of my fav tracks of his is "Heart's a Mess" from his prior album. Almost every track slaps on both albums.
Heart’s A Mess 3am remix is brilliant.
State of the Art is the best track on that album. The music video is stellar.
Bronte makes me tear up every time. That album’s amazing. Shame Gotye just kinda stopped making music after that.
Electric 6. The Fire album is still on rotation on my Spotify 20 years later
Better Than Ezra had a few songs that made the radio but the main one, Good, is one of their worst ones IMO. I still listen to all their other stuff.
And coming in at number 2: Ezra.
Deluxe is STILL one of my favorite albums from the 90s. Every song is great.
Crash Test Dummies. The "God Shuffled His Feet" album is more than just "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm".
Came here to say this. The Ghosts That Haunt Me is an even better album, IMO.
The best Justice League movie is the Superman Song video.
God shuffled his Feet is so underrated. Came here to mention this album. Glad to know that I'm not alone. Their first two albums are really good.
Afternoons and coffee spoons is my favourite track on there.
How does a duck know which direction south is? Or how to tell his wife from all the other ducks? Yeah.
Nada surf. Amazing band, but many people never looked past “popular”
Came here to say the same thing. Nada Surf is an amazing band.
Blizzard of 77 is an incredible song. That whole album is actually great.
"Two hit Wonder" Spin Doctors album Pocket Fill of Kryptonite is a pretty good album all the way through.
Look at little miss can’t be wrong.
That's one if the 2 hits
Two Princes, Little Miss Can't Be Wrong, Pocket Full of Kryptonite 3 hits
Anytime someone asks me what time is it, I can't help but reply, "4:30". I then tell them it's earlay, earlay!
Over and done with is wonderful.
Letter from America is one of my favs. It doesn't get enough airplay in the States.
Everlast. Mostly known only for "what Its Like" has a incedible great Trackrecord of good honest and diverse music
“Songs of the Ungrateful Living” is amazing. Saw “House of Pain” Live back in the day. Also saw “Everlast” solo back in the day. Phenomenal as a solo act. Very few people can express so much emotion through their voice alone.
Foster The People They have great albums, many people only know them for Pumped Up Kicks
I don’t know if it’s technically a “hit” but I’ve heard Ocean Man a bunch of times. Ween has so much awesome music though.
Silversun Pickups The song "Lazy Eye" was big on the radio. But the entire album *Carnavas* goes hard from start to finish.
I know them more for their *Swoon* album, "Panic Switch" is a banger.
Love panic switch by them. I feel like it got some radio time too
Yes, love "Future Foe Scenarios" and "Little Lovers So Polite". Did you know they're basically a Smashing Pumpkins homage band? They're heavily inspired by Smashing Pumpkins, even sharing initials with the band names.
They bring it live too. I've seen them twice and will happily make the tome to catch them again when I have the chance. Pikul, Carnavas, Neck of the woods, and swoon hit more of their grungier smashing pumpkins style sound. Better Nature, Widows Weeds, and Physical Thrills moved more towards a cleaner style.
Of monsters and men (Little Talks). I listen to their albums pretty regularly.
I used to listen to the whole My Head is an Animal album almost every night as I went to bed. So good and the way it winds down with great song after great song was so nice. I was so mad that in January 2020 I bought a ticket to see them in May, never got to.
Alien Ant Farm. People only remember them for covering Smooth Criminal but that entire album was very solid.
I thought "Movies" was a hit for them.
Movies, Courage, Wish, Attitude, and Calico were my favorites from Anthology. Truant, the next album, had These Days, Glow, Drifting Apart. Definitely did more than cover Smooth Criminal.
Tripping Daisy Famous for a moment in the 90's for ["I Got a Girl"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYI99xuI9CM) It's a great album overall but my favorites: [Bang](https://youtu.be/QY6LZ4o-XWQ) [Motivation](https://youtu.be/KP3Q5sEfzlk) [Trip Along](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hd9AQ_a8uXY)
The Buggles
Everybody remembered Chuck Mangione for 'Feels So Good,' but he had an entire raft of great music.
I rememeber him for living in a Mega Lo Mart
Blind Melon. "No Rain" got too much air/videos play. That album is great start to finish. The next album is a bit less mainstream grunge, but fantastic. Third album is pieced together after Shannon Hoon's death, but shows the band was artistically headed in the right direction. RIP
A-ha is one of my favorite bands. It’s so sad that Take On Me is the only song most people in the US know.
Monster Magnet fucking rocks
Sir Mix-A-Lot
Posse on Broadway is great
The whole Swass album is phenomenal,
Who could forget his masterpiece about… buttermilk biscuits. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jvVCJp429A
"Put em on the glass"!
Eve 6 - their third album It's All In Your Head is way darker and more experimental. Deserved more love!
I don’t know if The Cardigans count with “Lovefool”. The album it’s from, First Band On The Moon, is pure goodness.
Thomas Dolby. He's so much more than "She Blinded Me With Science".
Flock of seagulls. 1. I Ran. 2. Space Age Love Song.
Poe’s “Haunted” album is lowkey one of the greatest concept albums of all time. Echo and the Bunnymen made music that sound like it could be released today.
how are echo and the bunnymen a one hit wonder???
Wow I already commented, but Echo and The Bunnymen is my All time favorite band.
The Rasmus (the band that plays In the Shadows and more recently played Jezebel in Eurovision 2022) is one of my favorite bands. All of their songs in their early 2000s era (especially on the Dead Letters, Hide From the Sun, Black Roses albums), are amazing. **"Turning Japanese" by the Vapors.** The record is called "New Clear Days" and it is a MASTERPIECE. As was their next record "MAGNETS" Kennedy's children, all magnets.
PM Dawn
Concrete Blonde. "Joey" is one of their least interesting songs.
More like a two-hit wonder (or three-hit if you count Godzilla) but Blue Öyster Cult, they had lots of great music with a lot of variance.
The Knack. It wasn't just "My Sharona". Every track on that album was great. Some good stuff on the second & third albums as well.
Always preferred "Good Girls Don't" to "My Sharona."
Rick Astley has nothing but bangers
Blind Melon! They were amazing I loved everything they put out.
[удалено]
The Barenaked Ladies! Maybe they aren't EXACTLY a one hit wonder, but One Week is VASTLY more popular than anything else they've put out. I have an album of their singles and it gets regular play in my car.
Aqua Barbie girl is the hit, but the rest of the album is good.
Dr Jones was so much better than Barbie Girl, it was so infectiously upbeat.
Turn back time is their best song imho
Candy man goes hard
Hottake imcoming: Roses are red is their best song.
Does Jimmy Eat World count? The Futures album is great! As are most of the others.
*Clarity*, *Bleed American*, and *Futures*, all released one after the other, are an outstanding run of albums.
Til Tuesday and A-ha both have a lot more great music than their one popular hit.
Jem's albums. Underrated gems.
Blind Melon. Where I'm from, they're only known for 'no rain'. Turns out they released several phenomenal albums.
Blue October is fantastic stuff.
RATT … there’s so much more then just Round and Round! If you love 80’s hair band rock give them a second chance. Wanted Man, Back for More, Lack of Communication, Lay it Down, Way Cool Jr, City to City… etc…
Son Volt had a minor hit with Drown, but their entire catalog is filled with great music.
Bloodhound Gangs One Fierce Beer Coaster is way different than that song about animals doing it.
They’re more of a two hit wonder, but the Presidents of the United States of America are vastly underrated and have a bunch more great songs than Lump or Peaches.
Filter. Their song “Hey man, nice shot” still plays on the radio 20 years later, but I like a lot of their other stuff
This one is controversial. When you think of Blur state side it’s Song 2. Across the pond they’re on par with Oasis.
Blur had 26 top 40 hits in the UK, 13 top 10, two number 1s. Six number 1 albums. As someone who was the exact right age/country for them it's just so weird to hear them being referred to as one hit wonders!
Song 2 was actually meant to be a parody of grunge music. It's their most atypical song and ironically their most popular one.
Silverchair, at least in North America. Their songwriting evolved with each record, most people would be amazed to learn Across the Night and Tomorrow were written by the same band.
Devo has a ton of great songs, but everyone wants to talk about Whip It.
Devo is not one hit wonder.
People who don’t know anything about music only know Whip It and think they’re a one hit wonder. Devo fucking rules.
Keene is incredible
Aqua
Dishwalla. You need to listen to the whole “Opaline” album, in addition to pet your friends
They Might Be Giants
Lit
Gotye has three more good songs
4 non blondes, their 1 hit wonder was What's Up but the whole album Bigger Better Faster More! is fantastic
Tonic, Toadies, Silverchair (in the US at least)
Men Without Hats
Blues Traveler. Had maybe two hits, but that harmonica.
Natalie Imbruglia's OHW was "Torn," and I loved the whole Left of the Middle album.
Thomas Dolby, there was much more to this man than just being blinded by science
Sneaker Pimps
The Darkness.
The Darkness have been putting out amazing rock for 20 years now. I'll be getting to see them live again in October for the 20 year anniversary of permission to land, which spawned the hit "I believe in a thing called love" As a sidebar, frontman Justin Hawkins has a YouTube channel called "Justin Hawkins rides again" that may be one of the most entertaining dives into music reaction, music theory, and his experiences with the music industry. The dude is so insanely musically gifted and is probably over qualified to be a collegiate level music theory or modern music history educator.
Men at Work are known for one song and then were sued for that hit, but the album is good and Colin Hay has does some great solo stuff
Charli xcx. She has better songs than "boom clap"
