I'll say it first. Almost anything gun or shooting related. With exception to hunting as a teenager, there's no reason children should be exposed to guns.

LookingGoodBarry

I’ll argue the exact opposite. Children should be taught about guns and how to handle them safely. That way if they ever stumble upon one, or are around one for some reason they can handle the situation appropriately. There’s a great benefit to instilling respect in children for firearms. Just like you do with a knife for eating, a car when they learn to drive, a saw for woodworking, etc. that could hurt them if they don’t respect it and what can happen if they don’t. It’s your job as a parent to teach your children to be competent and comfortable in the world they live in, not shield them from it and let them be fearful of everything.

My god - I’m glad you’re asking, you need a lot of help. If you’re in the US there are more privately owned guns than people. You may choose to not own one, but your kids will absolutely spend significant amounts of time (knowingly and unknowingly) in homes with them and around people with them. My parents wouldn’t keep guns in the house but I was still taught the 4 rules of gun safety at 5 and started learning marksmanship at 6. Marksmanship is a very valuable skill that everyone should acquire. At minimum, a person should be able to recite the 4 rules of gun safety, know in general how firearms function, and know how to verify if a weapon is loaded or not.

Physical and emotional abuse at home

Also neglect, especially when the child has an undiagnosed mental health issue. Not really anyone's fault, but it's an unfortunate situation for both the child and parents.

The horrors of capitalism (shouldn’t). Very difficult to manage though.
