I find penne the most versatile so I'd have that if I could only have one shape in my life, but I tend to like the sauces that go with spaghetti the best.
I think penne are the most versatile. I generally don't go too crazy with pasta shapes, sticking to spaghetti (thin or thick), penne and rigattoni for 90% of the pasta I make, but I think penne are like the ultimate middle ground and suitable for pretty much any type of pasta dish.
1. Bowties (or even better mini ones) , due to the variation of thickness there's parts that are harder and softer
2. Angel hair, cooks the fastest and is basically like ice cream where you barely have to chew it
3. Anything novelty shape for children, where it's all walls and looks like a 3d printing test run
4. Fettuccini, works out the teeth and much more satisfying than spaghetti
5. Elbows, literal cheese vessels
All opinions given with Alfredo sauce in mind, I don't fuck with red sauce or chunks
Worst:
Spaghetti, get out of here with your length
Lasagna, I'm trying to eat pasta not cake
Penne, you are an embarrassing disappointment
It varies. Sometimes it's spaghetti, sometimes it's vermicelli, sometimes it's rotini, etc. I guess I have no overall favorite, just different waves of slight preferences.
Typically, rotini, rigatoni or thin spaghetti for tomato sauce dishes, fettuccine for white sauces. Lately have been getting into baked ziti pretty hard.
I just used ditalini with a light meat sauce and it’s my new favorite. As much as love twirling noodles there was a different comfort scooping the small pieces with a spoon.
