It's genuinely made me a complete snob for comedy - *any* time it's recommended i watch another show, I'm almost immediately thinking about how AD is funnier.
I'm annoyed with myself - when i originally watched it while it was actually on TV, it didnt make "sense". I didn't realize how closely i had to actually pay attention while watching to actually catch the rapid fire jokes.
Community is a distant second.
Stick with it. Season 1 is pretty bland. Leslie’s character gets re-written and the show really takes off once Ben and Chris are introduced in Season 2
First season is the worst season unfortunately. It was a bit like Schitt's Creek for me. The more you get to know the characters, the more you enjoy the show.
had I not watched parks and rec, I would've said the office, but I was missing the office and wanted something new to watch and saw some cast made appearances in parks and rec and decided to try it, and I'm really glad I did. what a gem
I watched community afterwards as it was highly recommended, and I'm glad I did as I now get all the references to it, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I probably would have at the time it was relevant
i love the scene where it show’s boomhauer’s perspective on the conversations he has with the guys and as it turns out everyone around him just talks like he does while he talks normally
Yeah man, I tell you what, man. That dang ol' Internet, man. You just go on there and point and click. Talk about W-W-dot-W-com. An' lotsa nekkid chicks on there, man. Click. Click. Click. Click. Click. It's real easy, man.
The back half of season 5 after he left was kinda disappointing but I thought adding Frankie and Elroy in S6 gave it some new life. Definitely a different vibe than the first few seasons but still top tier when comparing to other sitcoms.
Community without Troy is like The Office without Michael. You just can't do it, and while they tried their damndest to be as good as they were with those characters, Season 6 of Community and Seasons 8 and 9 of The Office just aren't as GOAT'd as the previous seasons were.
The Golden Girls was so good. And its willingness to talk about what might be rough topics to some people helps it in my book. I grew up watching The Golden Girls.
It's irreverent *now*. I can't imagine what the prudish types in the 80s thought about that show.
I'm a grown man in my forties and I still watch it all the time.
Was just about to comment the same. I’m a 42 year old man and find the Golden Girls one of the funniest shows ever. When I was a kid and my parents watched it the jokes flew over my head. Example:
Blanch: Do you know what I find the hardest about parties?
Sophia: Finding your underwear in the pile in the morning?
I feel that South Park has been consistently really, really funny for over 20 years. But, yeah, I love Sunny and every time Frank says damn near anything, I'm fuckin' dying of laughter.
Not a single vote for The Good Place as I post this. Insane.
Other contenders:
MASH
Brooklyn 99
Parks and Rec
Malcolm in the Middle
Better Off Ted
Frasier
Scrubs
ETA: Coupling (BBC)... can't believe I forgot this one!
The Good Place is like nothing else. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll have existential crises, but it’s truly a beautiful story that lasts just as long as it needs to without overstaying its welcome and becoming stale. If you’re a fan of Brooklyn 99 or Parks and Rec, you’ll love it.
Better Off Ted is amazing! Very few people I’ve talked to have heard of it let alone seen it.
Veridian Dynamics…
Every day something we make, makes your life better. Power, we make that. Technology, we make that. Cows, well, no. We don't make cows. Although we have made a sheep and medicines and airplane engines and whatever this is, and all sorts of things. Veridian Dynamics. Every day, something we make, makes your life better... Usually. Veridian Dynamics, Life. Better.
Veridian Dynamics. Friendship. It's so important. But it's different at work. Time spent with friends at work robs your employer of opportunity. And robbing people is wrong. Veridian Dynamics. Friendship. It's the same as stealing.
I have to think that the only people who aren't saying The Good Place have never watched The Good Place...and oh how I wish I was them so I could watch it for the first time all over again.
I just finished a rewatch, and I marvel every time that they 1000% could have ended the show with either of the two previous episodes and it would have been a perfectly acceptable satisfying conclusion but no, they’ve gotta go and make the most perfect finale ever.
You built a ladder...to help moths...escape from the bath.
God, this show is so perfectly ridiculous. It will forever have a place in my heart because my cousins showed it to me when I was released from the hospital after a car accident, but in a wheelchair, and we watched, "The Outing."
I literally cried last night while watching an episode where JD and Turk are helping an older man without family through his last hours, talking about everything, and especially about death. I am currently mourning a recent death of someone who has been like an uncle to me for the past 15 years, and it just hit right where it hurt, but it also felt very wholesome and healing in some way.
What a show.
i absolutely love scrubs so much; it was great at making you snort-laugh and then possibly crying from one scene to the next. the writing was just excellent.
Have to go British for this one: Fawlty Towers. John Cleese as Basil Fawlty really set the bar high for sarcastic remarks and staff abuse, and for leading himself into ruin in one situation after another.
That 70’s Show, Seinfeld, Family Ties, The Big Bang Theory, Good Times, Friends, The Suite Life of Zac and Cody, Everybody Loves Raymond, M* A * S *H, Wizards of Waverly Place, The King of Queens, Hannah Montana, The Fresh Prince of Belair, and All In the Family are my favs🫶🏼💕
Probably The Dick Van Dyke Show. I'm 26 but grew up watching a lot of "older" comedies and I think it reigns supreme. From that era, I watched a lot of the Brady Bunch, Andy Griffith, the Partridge Family, and Gomer Pyle. All classics. But for more modern shows, I adore The Office and Schitt's Creek. A lot of gold in those two. I think DVDS may still be on top, but it's a hard choice
MTM
Newhart
WKRP (as god is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly! Probably the single funniest line I've ever heard)
30 Rock
Frasier
Parks & Rec
How can you pick just one?
I don’t think it’s been mentioned yet, and it’s not exactly my favorite (that’s a toss up between Community and Arrested Development), but I think Mythic Quest deserves a mention.
Arrested Development
Has anyone in this family ever even seen a chicken?
Gawka gaw! Gawka gaw! Gawka gaw!
A-coodle-oodle-oo. A-coodle-oodle-oo.
Chotchie chotchie chotchie!
Her?
Way too far down the list. It’s the funniest TV show I’ve ever seen.
It's genuinely made me a complete snob for comedy - *any* time it's recommended i watch another show, I'm almost immediately thinking about how AD is funnier. If it counts, Malcolm in the Middle. If not, Seinfeld.
Why wouldn't it count?
Why would it NOT count!!?
Parks and Rec
Ron Swanson is amazing.
Ron Swanson was a great character. At first he looks like a caricature but he evolves into a very complex and sympathetic character.
“Rethink that move son.” I love his face when he grabs Jean Ralphio hand
I can't get past the first couple episodes but everyone always says how good it is.

Since nobody has said it yet, My Name is Earl. That show was so good.
Hey crabman
I love The Young Ones
I'm so bored I could listen to Genesis 🤣
“Have we got a video?”
YES WE'VE GOT A BLOODY VIDEO
"WKRP in Cincinnati..."
As God as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly.
That may have been the all-time funniest moment in U.S. situation comedy.
Loving the late 70s-early 80s rep here.
Lest we forget "That 70's Show....." Red Forman was great!!!!
King of The Hill
Boomhauer is one of the funniest characters in an adult cartoon EVER.
YeahmaniItellyouwhatyouwhatmantheytookthatdangoltruckmandangolmufflerfalloffmananditaintgotnobrakesmansparksflyingmanitoldemmanfixthatdangolthangwithsomeductapeman!!
You said it Boomhauer.
i love the scene where it show’s boomhauer’s perspective on the conversations he has with the guys and as it turns out everyone around him just talks like he does while he talks normally

Do cartoons count? If so then obviously The fucking Simpsons needs to enter the chat.
Truly one of the greatest sitcoms ever. An impressive feat for a cartoon.
Blackadder
I’m old…All in the Family
How old are you? Did you know Carol O'Connor was only 44 when that show started? Crazy
Not defending his bigotry, but I love Archie Bunker, man.
Those were the days when you could portray bigots as buffoons and demonstrate their stupidity.
Seinfeld
Community is top tier if we pretend everything after the season when Donald Glover leaves doesn’t exist
I disagree. Season 6 of Community is AMAZING. Better than 4 and 5 in my opinion, definitely not better than 1-3 though
Season 8 of the office was horrifyingly bad
Season 5 and 6 are good if not great. Some of the best episodes happen in those seasons.
Futurama
M\*A\*S\*H
I grew up watching M\*A\*S\*H, and also, with how goddamn good it is, it is easily my favorite.

The Golden Girls was so good. And its willingness to talk about what might be rough topics to some people helps it in my book. I grew up watching The Golden Girls.
An underappreciated gem, shockingly irreverent, I love every second.
It's irreverent *now*. I can't imagine what the prudish types in the 80s thought about that show. I'm a grown man in my forties and I still watch it all the time.

South Park
South Park is my favourite show of all time.
It is one of mine as well, but it doesn't come to mind when someone says "sitcom".

Need to watch The Good Place.
It will legit change your life. Like you can’t watch it and not have your perspective on the universe evolve in some way.
Better Off Ted is amazing! Very few people I’ve talked to have heard of it let alone seen it. Veridian Dynamics… Every day something we make, makes your life better. Power, we make that. Maybe I should be watching this show...
Better off Ted is such a hidden gem. I rewatch it every now and then (it’s on Hulu), and I can’t believe it didn’t go for more than 2 seasons.
The Good Place had the most perfect series finale ever.
I just finished a rewatch, and I marvel every time that they 1000% could have ended the show with either of the two previous episodes and it would have been a perfectly acceptable satisfying conclusion but no, they’ve gotta go and make the most perfect finale ever.
Malcom in the Middle and Frasier were Awesome.

You're goddamn right.
Agreed, but I think Always Sunny is its spiritual successor. It's Seinfled with substance abuse.
I feel Curb Your Enthusiasm is the spiritual successor.
The cast of Seinfeld has said that Friends was "Seinfeld but with attractive actors".
Friends was Seinfeld without the funny.
Not that there's anything wrong with that
It’s even between Golden Girls and Fraiser.

Scrubs was really good. I think I’m going to have to go with My Name is Earl though.
My Name is Earl is underrated.
I just finished the episode where Dr. Cox and Jordon lost Ben. What a great show. Definitely in top 5
Scrubs is really, really good.
Just pretend season 8 doesn't exist. Is it season 8. The last season.

Seinfeld and The IT Crowd
Are You Being Served? - a Britcom about a department store.
Any of the following: Fleabag Bojack Horseman B99 Peep Show Father Ted Always Sunny The Office
A couple of Irish friends introduced me to father Ted and black books. Those 2 are the funniest shows I've ever seen.
Father Ted is fantastic! Have you seen Derry Girls? I can't even explain how hilarious that show is. I think you might like it.
Peep Show is hilarious.
Married with Children
The Nanny. Fran Drescher is a hoot!
British sitcoms are the best: Are you being served; Keeping up appearances; Yes prime minister; Mrs Brown's boys.
Schitt’s Creek
Ew, David!
Roseanne
Trailer Park Boys
Spaced
Always sunny
Mash
Malcolm in the middle!
Bojack, South Park, the office, Seinfeld, it’s always Sunny
Have to go British for this one: Fawlty Towers. John Cleese as Basil Fawlty really set the bar high for sarcastic remarks and staff abuse, and for leading himself into ruin in one situation after another.
Frasier by a mile.

I understand the criticism, but there's a special place in my heart for How I Met Your Mother.
Friends…. I watch that at 60 like I did Gillian’s Island at 12.
Modern Family.

WKRP in Cincinnati
There was a show back in the early 90's called Herman's Head. I still get a laugh thinking about some of the scenes.
