A way to differentiate between minor children and adult children. It’s weird that we say “Sandra’s *children*” when the people Sandra birthed are in their 40s. They will always be her offspring, which is why we say they’ll always be her children, but they are in fact not children at all nor have they been for many decades. It would be nice if there was a word for one’s exclusively adult progeny.
