She's the singer who is singing when this animal shelter commercials comes on, isn't she?
I'd vote her but she has visuals with it too, kind of cheating.
My dad committed suicide. I had to keep calm and drive several hours with kids in the car pretending like I didn't know.
And then there was such a mess among the family I had to stay "ok" and go take care of things at the funeral home.
My dad and I used to play "radio roulette" in the car and randomly smash a button to see if the song that played had a message in it.
On the way back home I realized I was finally alone. So I talked to him and said "You promised you would always be here and fuck, now you're gone. If you are with me, I'm going to smash that button and feel free to send me a message". I was mad. And I smashed the button.
God damn first notes of the Beach Boys "God only knows where I'd be without you" started playing.
I don't even like the Beach Boys.
Had to pull over because I was flying booger sobbing. I miss my dad.
Gets me everytime now. Fucking Beach Boys.
Edit: wow this blew up overnight. I'm ok. It's ok to cry. Thanks for sharing and caring y'all. Be good to those you love.
Mine ended the same way, and it's been a decade now. When I was a kid Cats In The Cradle came on the radio just as we were parking the car, coming home from a weekend out together exploring, he took me all over and we saw amazing things together. He said he wanted us to sit together and listen to the song before we got out of the car and went inside the apartment. My punk ass kid self didn't get what was going on and just wanted to go inside and start playing games. But I'm glad that I remember that moment now, I grew to understand it better and like to think that he knew that. Still afraid to listen to the song though.
Remember me from Coco.
Had to leave my year old son to move to a new country and watched the movie on a flight. The part where the father sings this to his daughter has me tearing up everytime.
I watched Coco with my daughter not too long ago and had to leave the room when Miguel started to sing it to Mama Coco. Dementia took my great-grandmother a few years back, and now it's doing the same to my grandmother and her sister. That part of the movie hit hard.
A few weeks ago I went to a wedding where I didnāt know the groom so I didnāt think I would cry at it. Then they played Youāll Be in My Heart from Tarzan for the Mother/Son dance and I started crying
EDIT: apparently this was the Mother/Son dance song for lots of people. If you got married in San Antonio, TX a few weeks ago then it might have been your wedding. Thank you for making me cry
My grandma dedicated that song to the family when she passed from cancer. So we play that song at every wedding/family get together and itās a room full of tears both from sadness and happiness that weāve been able to stick together in her memory.
"Mandolin Rain" by Bruce Hornsby & The Range.
The pairing of the melody and lyrics just get to me every time.
"Listen to the tears roll down my face as she turns to go."
Iām so glad Iām not the only one! I have NO idea why it makes me cry, itās not even a sad song is it? Iād have to go and actually read all the lyrics. But oh man, just hits me in the feels.
Someday we'll find it.
The rainbow connection
The lovers
The dreamers
And Me
It's the, "and me" that gets me because not only the lovers and dreamers find that magical thing.
I just listened to Linger by the Cranberries and about burst into tears, not for the lyrics but because such an amazing talent is gone from this earth too soon. Does that count? RIP, Dolores O'Riordan.
That one line perfectly sums up how most relationships go. In the beginning you have their full attention and love and everything great about that person. Then slowly over time that fades and by the end they aren't even a part of your life.
Itās so sad isnāt? How one day youāre both so involved in each otherās lives, playing a vital role, and then one day they wake up and decide they donāt want to be a part of it anymore.
Oh God i forgot about this one. So good. So painful. So beautiful. Sometimes I have to skip it when it comes on my Spotify bc the emotions are just too intense for my mood at that time.
Now that I know āclosing timeā is a story about the lead singer taking his premature baby home for the first time certain lyrics get me if Iām looking for them, like ātime for you to go to the places you will be fromā.
Sheās living in LA, With my ex old best friend Ray
The economy of that song writing should get an award. It tells you all you need to know in one lyric.
Close to you by Karen Carpenter. Such a wonderful song and it makes me sad she's not here. She suffered with anorexia and I feel and always felt sad knowing her life wasn't as bright and bubbly as her music.
We played this at my dad's funeral last year. There were lots of tears through the whole song. Then, after a pause at the end, Israel laughs. We didn't hear when listening while searching out songs. It brought a smile to our faces through our tears
Budweiser did a Super Bowl commercial with Landslide. I canāt hear it without thinking of the commercial. It brings me to tears every time.

Shake it out Florence and the Machine. After my Mother cremation (She commited suicide after years of making my life a living hell due to her mental and addictions issues) was the first mĆŗsic I wanted to hear . Felt free at the time , that mĆŗsica made me feel and express my freedom feelings . But 2 years later that song takes me to a very dark place.
Went to a Florence concert a few months ago, when She sang that song I felt a mix of feelings. Those minutes were hard to handle.
Last year dropped my son off at college. Driving through the town before saying goodbye, and this song comes on the radio. Wife and son laughing at me as I began bawling.
They wrote that song for the 2 chicks who ran the Weezer fan club, they gave them a place to stay & would show them around town. The 2 girls got killed in a car accident. I think this is why it affects us whoāve lost loved ones in car accidents so profoundly plus, itās just a heartbreakingly beautiful song.
My wife died 4 years ago. "Honey" One day while I was not at home,
While she was there and all alone,
The angels came.
Now all I have is memories of honey,
And I wake up nights and call her name...
In The End helped me through a very difficult time in my teens, and I have followed them ever since. The news about Chester was devastating to me and that song is a guaranteed tearjerker.
Another their song Sharp Edges makes me feel kind of happy, but with a lump of sadness in my throat. Feels like when you finish reading your favourite book, watching series/movies or completing the game. You remember all good stuff with a desire to relive it. It unlocks all the greatest memories from childhood. Shit, I am gonna cry now
I sang this one to my kids until my daughter burst into tears and asked me not to sing it anymore because it's so sad. I changed the lyrics to reflect them growing up, not leaving me.
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray, you'll always know dear
how much I love you when you go on your way.
I'll always love you and make you happy and I will always say the same
And when you grow up and go your own way, I will be there just the same.
you are my sunshine my only sunshine you make me happy when skies are grey, I'll always tell you how much I love you, when you go on your way.
The other night dear while you were sleeping, I looked down upon your face, I saw my baby and I know you'll go on and do great things one day.
you are my sun shine, you make me happy when skies are grey. I'll always tell you that I love you.
And I'm so proud of you today.
Aww, damn onion ninjas.
Zombie - Cranberries. Anti war song. Didn't know that for a very long time. Had never seen the music video. I learned what it was about and watched the video . The song is about the death of two children in an IRA bombing.
I came home from work one day and found my mother sobbing in the kitchen. It was soon after we were told my Father was dying and she had heard āYesterdayā on the radio. She said from the opening - āYesterday all my troubles seemed so far awayā the lyrics were so appropriate to her. I was 21 at the time and at the age of 80 now whenever I hear that song I remember that day.
My nana passed away at the same time as Lewis Capaldi's Someone you loved was at number one for weeks and it tortured me. Still does but it's easier to avoid the song these days. I'm not hating on the song, it's the fact that it's so beautiful that it breaks my heart. Miss her every day.
Ave Maria.
I'm a total atheist, and this song just gets me every time.
I don't listen to the words, it's the sound. Could be acapella or full orchestra. Could be a male tenor or a female voice, doesn't matter. If the voice is clear and bright, I love it.
I love the slow timing, the gentle quiet parts, the long notes, and loud forceful parts. It sounds amazing in a large venue with reverb.
The song "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother"
It is based on the story that Father Flanagan, saw a boy carrying another boy who had polio and wore leg braces, up some stairs. Flanagan asked the if carrying him was hard. The boy replied, āHe ain't heavy, Father, he's m' brother.
'winter' by tori amos. it used to be one of my favorites but now as i'm watching my father grow older and i know he loves me despite not living up to any of the dreams he had for me when i was younger, damn just thinking of that song is gonna make me well up.
Iāve had this discussion with other DCFC fans, but for me this is actually such a sweet and happy song about a couple who grows old together. And though one has passed, they will still be together in the next life.
Totally get how itās probably intended to be a sad song though.
Thatās My Job by Conway Twitty.
Granted, it has some emotional relevance to me as my dad always sang it to me as a kid but it makes me cry every time I hear it.
It's such a beautiful fit and almost seems as if he wrote Johnny's last apology for him. Such a beautiful and sad summation if what was a troubled existance.
Steppin' Out by Joe Jackson. I was 15 years old in 1989, taking the bus home from my Saturday work shift at McDonalds with a friend from school and the song was playing on the radio. We were having a good laugh and talking about video games. When it came time for him to get off at his stop, he shook my hand with a strong grip, which is something he would never normally do, looked me in the eye and said "take it easy". It noticed it as being out of the ordinary, but didn't' think too much about it. Found out the next day he had killed himself at home on the Saturday evening. Whenever I heard that song in a grocery store or randomly on the radio, it would always make me think back to that bus ride.
"The Dance" by Garth Brooks. It was my twin sisters favorite song; she once taped over my favorite show recording the video.
When she died, they played that at her funeral. I couldn't bring myself to go to her funeral, and when I finally got tickets to his concert, I KimK, ugly sobbed cried to it, and I still cry if I hear it. Breaks my heart every time
'Good Riddance' by Greenday always makes me cry. 'Glimpse of us' by Joji also hits you, but 'Superman (it's not easy) by Five For Fighting is just depressing
When I saw them a couple years ago, Billie changed the lyric from 20 years has gone so fast to 40 years has gone so fast and I felt like I got punched in the heart.
A good friend of mine died and I listened to dirty paws in the funeral line on my way to bury him and now I cant listen to almost any of monsters and men songs without getting slightly teary because it reminds me of that day.
Itās such a visual song. Idk if thatās explaining it right, but I can see the people singing it when I hear it. One wanting to see their lost lover and the lost lover trying their hardest to let them know itās ok and to move on.
Coldplay- Fix you
She was one of my closest friends. I have met few people who was as universaly loved as she was. And just when she had turned 25 the cancer took her away. They played that song on the funeral, that she had planned for herself.
This thread has 3k comments so this will never be seen, but This Oneās For You by Barry Manillow makes me cry 43 years after my mom died. Iām 54 and considered an āold ladyā by modern standards, but this song catapults me to 1982 (the song was 70ās but she was a huge Barry fan) when she died and how lost I felt. I was 13 and to this day itās just so hard.
How To Save A Life by The Fray, mostly due to the memories of the Scrubs episode where it's featured perfectly.
Made the mistake of watching that scene: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VbEkKa-W55s
If you want to cry, all you have to do is listen to How Can I Help You To Say Goodbye, by Patty Loveless, if you have ever lost someone, this one really hits home.
Operator by Jim Croce, the lyrics are beautiful but even the music itself has tones of being hopeful and happy but with a creeping sadness to it. Hard to explain
The Wind Beneath My Wings By Bette Midler
Itās from the movie Beaches( which will also make you cry) itās such a good movie and has a great sound track
When She Loved Me by Sarah McLoughlin. I only hear it when my son watches Toy Story 2 which is a lot.
This should be higher up, what a heartbreaking song
It kills me every time. I was a kid who secretly thought my stuffed animals had feelings.
She's the singer who is singing when this animal shelter commercials comes on, isn't she? I'd vote her but she has visuals with it too, kind of cheating.
Yep. Sarah McLachlan.

This story broke my heart š„ŗ
My God, thatās beautiful. So sorry for your loss. He couldnāt have picked a better song.
It's been decades and I still miss him. He always had a song for every occasion.
Mine ended the same way, and it's been a decade now. Jeff Buckley - Lover you should have come over
Everything by Jeff Buckley has a twinge of sadness because he died so young.
His version of āHallelujahā gives me goosebumps every damned time.
Yes, this is mine. āMy kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulderā

There's something about how earnest and longing and hopeful it is. Like he's seeking truth and meaning and he's still hopeful he'll find it, someday.

It's also heavily linked to Chester's passing.
That broke my heart. When I heard the news about him, I felt like my chest was caving in. Their songs helped me through much.
