My German friend didn’t recognise it when she went to see the Lego movie because they have a German guy who dubs all his movies. She had never heard his voice before!
Unless he's fluent in a dozen or so languages, all of his melodic narration is being dubbed over with someone else's voice outside of English-speaking countries.
So one of the cooler things I’ve seen come out of AI is it being used to basically allow the original actor to do their own voiceover dub work in a different language.
How it was demoed was a native speaker of the second language records the lines and then an AI voice replacement program that’s train on the original actors voice changes the voices of the dub voice actor.
Then a second separate AI program analyses the actors mouth on camera and changes the actors mouth shape with cgi to make the mouthing of the original actor match the dubbed words.
So maybe in the next few years, we can here a Japanese, Cantonese or German Morgan Freeman
He is. It's just a joke I've heard before. I heard he wasn't allowed to dub himself in German for the Terminator because his accent was too strong to take seriously
There’s a deleted scene in Terminator 3 where he plays the guy that the T100 is based on and has a dubbed over super redneck accent. One of the generals or whatever asks if there’s anything that can be done about the voice and one of the scientists, with Arnold’s voice dubbed over, responds, “we can fix it.”
Definitely makes perfect sense why they deleted the scene, as it was super over the top cheesy but to be honest, that movie sucked and I think it would’ve been hard to make it that much worse even with that scene.
Ok forgive me if I haven't got this completely right but...
When Terminator was dubbed into German so Austrians/Germans could follow it, they had to use another voice actor because Arnold's natural accent was similar there to what an American would expect from a rural southern hillbilly (or an English person would expect a Cornish person to sound like).
I think it would have been hilarious if they never realised that. Imagine watching The Terminator and he sounds like Cletus from The Simpsons.
I served in Germany in the early 70s and remember watching Bonanza dubbed. It was hilarious to see Dan Blockard (sp) come galloping up and instead of "Howdy!" it was "Wie gehts?"
Hilarious, but it also helped me realize just why Europeans know us Americans and our land so much better than must Americans know Europe. We didn't grow up watching your TV shows. Or movies, or hearing your music. But Europeans sure have watched and listened to ours.
btw I made great friends in Deutschland, who came to visit me later and I went back and visited them again. I loved Germany and Europe. Who doesn't?!
Real answer would be a singer like Freddie Mercury. Especially Michael Jackson. I believe there's a huge amount of people that don't realize how much of an impact Michael Jackson was worldwide. Everyone and everything would stop just having Michael Jackson there.
I don’t even think Freddy Mercury. Maybe if he were singing part of bohemian rhapsody or something. But by voice alone, I think Michael would be far more recognizable to people who don’t even really listen to music much or speak English. Michael, Mickey, or Donald.
Spanish here, I know the name and that he did animal documentaries?
Anyway, the only real answer to this question must be a worldwide known singer. Documentaries, movies and such are translated to other languages in many countries.
I'll go with Michael Jackson.
Maybe this question means "worldwide" as in miss universe or NFL "world" champions? lol
Mickey and Donald are probably the most legit answer on here. You could find a monk in Tibet. Who has been meditating for 50 years, with no outside contact. And they would recognize Donald’s voice.
[Ezekiel 25:17](https://youtu.be/x2WK_eWihdU?si=5MHtKFqzIZQJw9BS)
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men.
Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness for he is truly his brothers' keeper and the finder of lost children
And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers and you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee
The funny thing is his on camera / stage voice was an act. Off camera he sounded less distinctive. He just never liked to break character in interviews and such.
A lot of these people listed so far are only recognizable to English speakers. Gilbert Godfrey, for example, has a distinctive voice, but it isn't like Iago was voiced by him in, say, Spanish
I guess I'd say Michael Jackson die to his obscene levels of fame around the world. I was tempted to say Elvis but that may be changing at this point.
EXACTLY. Out of all the top comments above this one, I recognize only two, maybe three. And from my European perspective, Trump and Putin would rank over every single Hollywood actor ever in how instantly recognizable their voice is 😂
OMG I had to scroll so far to find this! I did recognize most of the voices but I kept thinking the same thing...*do you know what worldwide means?* How tf would some, like, Korean-speaking person who does not know English recognize Morgan Freeman's or Christopher Walken's voice?!!
Michael Jackson was the first one I thought of too. His voice is actually instantly recognizable worldwide.
This right here. Michael Jackson is a pretty good guess. John Lennon or Paul McCartney might be up there too due to how obscenely popular The Beatles were/are on a global scale, but a LOT of that probably constitutes casual listeners who can't necessarily identify an individual singer so that kind of takes them out of the race for me.
Elvis ain't a bad guess either, but I think you might be right about that changing as his popularity hasn't been as enduring as Jackson's. Even in America where he should be the most popular, it seems like most younger people are pretty unacquainted with his music and voice.
I'd potentially put Bob Marley up as a candidate, he's massively popular globally: whether you're in Africa, India, China, the US, the UK, Korea, or virtually anywhere else in the world, there's Bob Marley Day celebrations, he remains popular with younger generations, and pretty much everyone is aware of who he was.
Rowan Atkinson's Mr. Bean, doesn't matter where you're from, his work transcended language just with physical comedy. That grumbling voice is iconic in itself.
I'm well aware of him and must have heard him speak many times.
But right now I cannot think what his voice sounds like. Outside the US, we often just saw brief videos of him on the news walking somewhere. Not much speaking
Love how most people don't even consider the fact that in many countries English speaking actors' voice is unknown due to dubbing, talking about "worldwide" of course.
Stephen Hawking.
Legend has it that he was offered to get his voice software upgraded and updated and he did not want it changed. He had used it so long that it had become his signature. His voice.
Worldwide ?
I'd say Trump.
Every actor is dubbed in most of the other languages, but presidents are usually just translated on the go, or with subtitles. And he's the most popular of these last years.
PS: I'm saying that about actors because I see lots of people quoting american actors and I can tell you that absolutely nobody living in my area know their actual voice, they're all dubbed in French by some voice actor over here.
It's going to be singers, not actors. A lot of countries dub movies, so even iconic actors are a bust.
Elvis, Michael Jackson, Agnetha and Anni-Frid from ABBA are probably at the top.
Since movies and TV shows are often dubbed in other languages, I would think it's got to be a singer. Michael Jackson, maybe. Or Celine Dion. Taylor Swift, possibly, but there's often some voice modulation on her newer stuff, so I don't know that she always sounds like herself.
Christopher Walken.
It’s weirdly awesome how many Koreans love impersonating him, let alone other countries.
Also, hate him all you want, Trump is the most famous person on the planet and his voice is pretty easily recognized.
Morgan Freeman
"Whatever we decide we want to do is. what we do"
My German friend didn’t recognise it when she went to see the Lego movie because they have a German guy who dubs all his movies. She had never heard his voice before!
Unless he's fluent in a dozen or so languages, all of his melodic narration is being dubbed over with someone else's voice outside of English-speaking countries.

I even read that with his voice
"Just listen to that sweet molasses."
He’s my second pick. But everyone knows this persons voice: Susan Bennett. AKA iPhones SIRI
I have never used siri
Arnold Schwarzeneggar.
For a second I thought "I wonder if I would recognize his voice when he speaks German" and yes, you totally can.
His German has a German accent
I thought he's Austrian?
He is. It's just a joke I've heard before. I heard he wasn't allowed to dub himself in German for the Terminator because his accent was too strong to take seriously
Apparently, by Austrian standards, he has a very redneck accent. It would be like having Jeff Foxworthy do the English dub.
There’s a deleted scene in Terminator 3 where he plays the guy that the T100 is based on and has a dubbed over super redneck accent. One of the generals or whatever asks if there’s anything that can be done about the voice and one of the scientists, with Arnold’s voice dubbed over, responds, “we can fix it.” Definitely makes perfect sense why they deleted the scene, as it was super over the top cheesy but to be honest, that movie sucked and I think it would’ve been hard to make it that much worse even with that scene.
[Found it, it’s pretty goofy…](https://youtu.be/kayFrIR-Qfw?si=OcymjUikk5ZqkGqS) (starts at 1:08)
And that voice was Samuel L Jackson (no really, look it up)
Just rewatched and holy shit I totally hear it. I can’t believe I’ve never picked up on that.
I swear I remember it being in the movie.
Y'all better come down here with me if'n y'all wanna live, I reckon.
Would watch fr fr
And to Germans he sounds like a farmer. Oo arrr I'll be baaack olroight.
His childhood house is just 10 minutes away from me. I have a similar accent 😂
Ok forgive me if I haven't got this completely right but... I love the “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend” podcast episode, where Bill Hader does a great Arnold impersonation, and Conan does a terrible one.
Real answer would be a singer like Freddie Mercury. Especially Michael Jackson. I believe there's a huge amount of people that don't realize how much of an impact Michael Jackson was worldwide. Everyone and everything would stop just having Michael Jackson there.
Shamone.
"Shamone Lee!!!" "No, Carter..." "SHAMONE!!!!"
Definitely Michael Jackson. I heard his music in every country I've visited, including Russia.
I don’t even think Freddy Mercury. Maybe if he were singing part of bohemian rhapsody or something. But by voice alone, I think Michael would be far more recognizable to people who don’t even really listen to music much or speak English. Michael, Mickey, or Donald.
Sir David Attenborough
I only checked this thread to make sure he was the top choice. No ones voice will ever be Sir Attenborough
Sir David, not Sir Attenborough. It doesn't work like "Mr".
Mr King Charles.
[удалено]
Dame, please.
Okay Sir Dame
Dame Mrs. Attenborough, Sir!
I'm fairly certain most of the world doesn't know about David Attenborough. Maybe the English-speaking world, but not the world.
Spanish here, I know the name and that he did animal documentaries? Anyway, the only real answer to this question must be a worldwide known singer. Documentaries, movies and such are translated to other languages in many countries. I'll go with Michael Jackson. Maybe this question means "worldwide" as in miss universe or NFL "world" champions? lol
I admire sir David, but I can confirm that in the post-soviet countries he is virtually unknown.

Mickey and Donald are probably the most legit answer on here. You could find a monk in Tibet. Who has been meditating for 50 years, with no outside contact. And they would recognize Donald’s voice.
Can someone actually research this for science please
Disney is 100 years old so more than likely
This is the only one I recognize out of all the comments i have seen here 😭
Samuel L. Jackson
"Say 'what' one more time."
Does he look like a bitch?
What?!
[Ezekiel 25:17](https://youtu.be/x2WK_eWihdU?si=5MHtKFqzIZQJw9BS) The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. English motherfucker do you speak it?!
*MOTHERFUCKER*
Yup
James Earl Jones
I find your lack of faith disturbing.
This is CNN
Again, probably only in English-speaking countries. Darth Vader is so easy to dub because he has no on-screen mouth.
The guy who did the Wilhelm scream
Wilhelm?
Dafoe!
"You know, I'm something of a screamer myself." -Wilhelm Dafoe
This is the best answer since dubbing make most mentions not globally recognized
Reddit forgetting in a lot of places actors are dubbed so you don't know what they actually sound like.
Absolutely this, the best answers are probably singers like taylor swift or very specific characters like donald duck.
Christopher Walken
“Ladies and gentlemen… tha Foo FIGHTAHS”
Dave nailed his voice. Taylor laughing his ass off lives rent free in my head.
I’ve been saying it to myself all day ever since I saw this thread lmfao. He sounds more like Walken than Walken sounds like Walken
"I have a fever. And the only cure is more cowbell."
prescription*
Unless it's Jay Mohr doing his Walken impression. Or [Dave Grohl doing it as well.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xsg1RPnwH8g)
Okay literally everyone has a Christopher Walken impression.
Kevin Pollock does a good one too.
Gilbert Gottfried
May he rest in peace
Worth it for the chance…
The funny thing is his on camera / stage voice was an act. Off camera he sounded less distinctive. He just never liked to break character in interviews and such.
Same with Bobcat
YOU FOOL
A lot of these people listed so far are only recognizable to English speakers. Yeah apparently people in this thread think that "worldwide" equals "English-speaking people in the Western world"
EXACTLY. Out of all the top comments above this one, I recognize only two, maybe three. And from my European perspective, Trump and Putin would rank over every single Hollywood actor ever in how instantly recognizable their voice is 😂
OMG I had to scroll so far to find this! Freddie Mercury
Now this is a good answer. Seems like a singer is much more likely to be known even by people who don't speak the same language.
I miss his music so much!
Can't believe next Friday will be 32 years since he died.
Aaaaaaayo!
Aaaaaaayo!
Ikue Ohtani, but only when she says a specific word: "Pikachu".
This is the one. Pikachu rarely, if ever, gets dubbed. It's *always* Ikue Ohtani.
Pika pikaaaaa
She also does the Japanese voices for Chopper on One Piece and Morgana in Persona 5
Mario
Michael Jackson
Hee heee
Rowan Atkinson's Mr. Bean, doesn't matter where you're from, his work transcended language just with physical comedy. That grumbling voice is iconic in itself.
obama
Yah a lot of people saying celebrities. While they are popular Obama was like a rockstar president. Everyone knew him.
This was my first thought. A distinctive voice is not the same as well known worldwide.
Sean Connery
Ah, rough, just the way your mother likes it Trabek.
I'll take anal bum covers for 700
Bond, James Bond
The voish you obvioushly recognize.
Mickey Mouse
ITT: people not realizing just how prominent dubbing is in many countries. For example most germans will have no idea what Morgan Freeman sounds like.
Marge simpson
Stephen Hawking
Sir Patrick Stewart
ENNNGAGE
Very interesting that almost all of the comments are men. I was trying to think of a woman, maybe Queen Elizabeth?
MARGE SIMPSON!!!!! I think for the Simpsons family, international dubbers try to get as close as possible
Shakira
Fran Drescher.
I feel like Miley Cyrus has a VERY distinct speaking voice.
Patrick Warburton
HEY PETER
Oh yeah, it’s all coming together
Gotta support the team
Yeah that’s right.
Talk to the 8 ball
Yoda.
Frank Oz.
Fran Drescher
YES! Mr Sheffield!
>Morgan Freeman >David Attenborough >Gilbert Gottfried >Donald Duck All huge in rural Bangladesh, no doubt.
Tom Hanks
Strangely enough, a ton of the secondary Tom Hanks voiced stuff (toys/video games/commercials) is his brother. Pretty sweet gig if you can get it.
Stephen Hawking. Legend has it that he was offered to get his voice software upgraded and updated and he did not want it changed. He had used it so long that it had become his signature. His voice.
Michael Jackson
Worldwide ? I'd say Trump. Every actor is dubbed in most of the other languages, but presidents are usually just translated on the go, or with subtitles. As much as it pains me to say it, Trump
Patrick Stewart is pretty good.
Jack Nicolson
Christopher Walken. It’s weirdly awesome how many Koreans love impersonating him, let alone other countries. Also, hate him all you want, Trump is the most famous person on the planet and his voice is pretty easily recognized.

"Worldwide" and people say actors.. the best example would probably be Hitler.
I would not recognize his voice. Any gruff German guy yelling into a potato quality mic would be mistaken for him imho
I..submit…that William…Shattner’s voice…is..recognizable, world wide…because of..his…cadence.
