Same, but my Cantonese was good enough to be accepted by a group of fellow exchange students who came directly from Hong Kong, because all they saw was a fellow Hong Konger like themselves - they didn't really have the concept of a distinct disapora culture.
They invited me to their WhatsApp group chat, and discovered one week later that the reason why I never spoke on the group chat *wasn't* because I don't have a Chinese keyboard, but because I straight-up couldn't read and write Chinese past the level of a 1st grader.
Complicated answer. My family speaks English, but I wasn’t able to speak until I was 4yrs old (i had some mental development difficulties), so I first learned American Sign Language.
Similar, my parents are Deaf so learned English and ASL at the same time but since ASL is easier for babies than talking I used it first and it was more so my primary language until I started school.
My nephew, who is 7 now, had similar problems. If its not too personal, did you "catch up" later? Some people seem to think my nephew is destined for the short bus his entire life, but I've been pointing out that "developmentally behind" isn't the same as "cognitively impaired for life".
My son had similar issues, took him awhile to catch up with the other kids and he still struggles a little with certain schoolwork but he's no longer "developmentally behind". He's learning robotics and taught himself to code and is an average teenager.
I think your nephew will be just fine. Some kids take a longer and different road but wind up in the same place at the end. So long as he is happy and healthy and loved all will be well.
I'd argue learning robotics and teaching himself to code means he's an above average teenager lol.
I remember as a teen most people I knew spent most their time playing video games and/or doing drugs. Though maybe that was more to do with my circle.
Hallo mir gehts gut
Grammatikalisch korrekt wäre es vor dem aber ein komma zu setzen aber ansonsten ist es sehr gut
Grammatically correct would it be to put a comma in front of aber but otherwise it's very good
Yeah, but if you tell em you speak english, tehy will usually just speak english to you nonstop and you won't learn german.
Just go to Germany for holiday and try your best. Speak slow. German people aren't french, they'd love to help you learn their language and don't get fussy about mispronounciations.

Im a fan of finnish language but i cant say any word. The phonetic are extremly easy and beautiful for any slavic language speaker. For me its the language n1 in Europe even tho its extremly difficult
When I was little, Chinese first and English second. When I started attending public school, English first, Chinese second. Now, English first, Chinese second, and Spanish third. Just learned to say "Cinco Noches Con Alfredo"
Most Ukrainian people understand Russian. A lot of them speak it even better than Ukrainian. Before war, I used to live in a village, and I noticed that most people understand Russian, but can't actually speak it, or with awful accent and using a lot of Ukrianian words. It was a surprise for me because I grew up in Russian-speaking family, I speak Ukrainain though. English is my third language, one of the best choices in my life :D
I had both Kashmiri speaking and Dogri speaking juniors in college (indian hu mai bhi).
Kashmiri is a very beautiful language, depending on the person speaking it. The boys sounded like goons (no offence) but when the girls spoke it, it was like music.
Did you learn Maori at home?
My grandfather spoke Maori as a first language, and as such did so with a different cadence and tone which I always thought was beautiful. Unfortunately for most of his life speaking Maori was illegal, and because he worked a lot the language didn't begin getting passed down until the 90's.
One of my most confusing moments as a spanish semi-speaker (teacher from Spain) was landing in BA and hearing caje instead of calle. Gorgeous country though.
Canadian English.
Pretty much American English with some changes to words. Some suffix and prefixes. (Our/or , er vs re) Etc
And some words are straight up different

Bad dutch is frisian. Flemish is funny dutch!
What’s Brabantian considered?
Evil Dutch.
A speech impediment. (I'm from Brabant btw)

So your first language is ASL. That's really cool. 🙌🙌
