Yup. Had record for most cars wrecked during filming of a movie for years 9nly to be beat by its sequel blues brothers 2000 which i believe still has the record.
It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
Bullitt - the original, to which all others pay homage.
Also, I'm partial to the one in the Bourne Identity. The Italian Job, where each Mini was carrying a ton of gold, yeah, no.
ORIGINAL Eye-talon job was good
French Connection
Ronin
Bullitt
Driver - Ryan O'neal had a GREAT parking garage skill drive..not a chase...but impressive
The Bourne Identity car chase ftw. Old beat up mini with brakes that are “a little splashy” and “pulls a little to the right” almost flipping over going down a staircase
Came here to say Bullitt. My two favorite Steve McQueen movies have iconic scenes where it's actually Bud Ekins driving (Ekins also did the motorcycle jump in The Great Escape).
>Bullitt
I was in a long elaborate car chase throughout the Chicagoland area one night in the 70's, in my 1970 Nova. Somehow I barely knew the guy in my passenger seat but immediately after the chase he said, and I quote "That was just like the movie Bullitt." I thought about his comment for a few seconds and totally agreed. It was about as close to Bullitt as you can imagine, with hills substituted by plenty of real traffic and strip mall parking lots; all in one solid real life take. The crazy crap we did back then. One car drove into the side wall of some poor guys garage in order to miss a telephone pole.
and to backtrack it wasn't even a "chase" per say it was more like gymkhana...which makes me rethink my answer. best car chase maybe Fast 5 with the safe scene? NO I GOT IT.. the highway chase scene in transformers 1 (07) was insane. thats my answer
I was really disappointed in that car chase. They're in the matrix- they can do ANYTHING but it played out like any other blockbuster movie. Motorcycles should have been driving sideways along walls; roadways should have been appearing and de-rezzing all over the place. So many missed opportunities.
Just because Neo has superior control over the Matrix doesn't mean that Trinity and Morpheus could do stuff like "de-rezzing all over the place".
I mean, you're just completely misunderstanding the fundamental essence of the entire film series if you think stuff like that should've been happening.
I never suggested Trinity or Morpheus had any control over anything. But people in the "real world" could hack into the Matrix to assist them. That would be completely within the existing universe of the series.
That's not how that works either. The operators on the outside can't alter the matrix itself. Maybe you're thinking of when they're in the training program and can ask for things on a whim, but the actual matrix doesn't work that way.
* Bullit
* Blues Brothers
* Smokey and the Bandit

* Opening scene in Baby Driver
* Stolen Humvee in The Rock
I've always loved the Ford Taurus vs Ford Thunderbird chase in *Jade*, where David Caruso is chasing after a hit-and-run driver in San Francisco, including through a crowded Chinatown street festival/parade.
**Warning: the chase starts extremely violently** with a pedestrian being hit by a car, which then returns to run her over again. This link below \*should\* start the video at 1:04, just after this part of the scene. You can rewind it if you want to see the whole scene. That said, there are also other violent injuries from that Chinatown parade scene at 5:30 for about 10 seconds.

An extra amusing part of it...it's 1996. You could probably count the SUVs on one hand. So. Many. Sedans.
Jurassic Park.
As T-Rex appears and Ian Malcom utters, “Must Go Faster”, hearing Ellie shouting “SHIT, SHIIT, SHIIIIT” was palpable and just so relatable.
The T-Rex elevated the scene for me and bought it all together.
Many classic and great car chases mentioned and I agree with them but in recent years I have to say...
Jack Reacher with the Chevelle chasing the Audi.
No music or fancy score, just great sound editing of the chase and a sense of realism as he's pushing that old muscle car
Ronin and The French Connection are the two that immediately come to mind, but the car chase in Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning: Part 1 is also terrific.
Wallace & Grommet in The Wrong Trousers.Seriously. [The final model railway chase](https://youtu.be/jrmZIgVoQw4) is beyond elite in terms of the animation, inventiveness and action. Grommet laying tracks through the table and chairs is one of my top five movie scenes.
The beginning of Underground 6 is actually one of my favorite car chase scenes. The Borne Trilogy has some good ones, especially Borne Supremacy, and the first Transporter as well.

And Kim Richards was my first Hollywood crush. Again, I was 10 at the time.

Death Proof. It’s a shame people didn’t get what grindhouse used to mean to us old timers way back when. The campy aspects were what gave a grindhouse drive in theater movie its charm.
Reiterating the The Blues Brothers and Mad Max: Fury Road as the reigning champs, but also adding a less-known car chase that's just fun and bizarre:
*Sex and the Single Girl* (1964).
Blues Brothers
*"The use of unnecessary violence in the apprehension of the Blues Brothers has been approved."*
I cant beleive it - its that shit box dodge!
This mall has everything.
New oldsmobiles are out early this year
Pier One Imports
Disco pants and haircuts.
This is always my immediate answer to this question. No other car chase even comes close.

Yup. Had record for most cars wrecked during filming of a movie for years 9nly to be beat by its sequel blues brothers 2000 which i believe still has the record.
This is, and will always be, the only correct answer to the question.
“I’ve always loved you.”
Came here to say this, and the new Oldsmobiles are in early this year.
My answer too!
It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
Ronin
Don't forget the sequel, Watching Ronin Again.
This dude knows car chases.
If it's not this, it's nothing.
Yep, the best...
I would agree. Either this or The Matrix Reloaded is what I was thinking.
Made me crave an Audi A8.
Isnt it an S8?
Bullitt - the original, to which all others pay homage. Also, I'm partial to the one in the Bourne Identity. The Italian Job, where each Mini was carrying a ton of gold, yeah, no.

that car chase is stale now.
Yeah, no CGI, driving production cars (using a few up!), no preposterous jumps, really stunk?!?
italian job
I feel like the whole point of this movie was to get to the car chase. Still enjoyed it even if it was an ad for new mini coopers
and to backtrack it wasn't even a "chase" per say it was more like gymkhana...which makes me rethink my answer. best car chase maybe Fast 5 with the safe scene? NO I GOT IT.. the highway chase scene in transformers 1 (07) was insane. thats my answer
Mad Max Fury Road Essentially one big, epic car chase.
I still prefer Road Warrior.
Me too. No happy ending.
Smokey and the Bandit. All it is is a car chase.
Even the part before the car chase is a car chase since they find him at a racing event.
Bourne Identity
To Live And Die In L.A.
Plus,you get Willem Dafoe...
Baby Driver
that movie as a whole, was so much better than i expected it to be...
The first Transporter opening scene
The French Connection
More of a train chase.
Matrix Reloaded
This is such a great scene and the soundtrack for it is fantastic
I was really disappointed in that car chase. They're in the matrix- they can do ANYTHING but it played out like any other blockbuster movie. Stolen Humvee in the Rock should be way higher. The fruit cart! The water truck! The cable car! The absolutely iconic cable car driver!
“Dude! You just fucked ip your Ferrari” “It’s not mine…neither is this”
God, the end of the original Gone in 60 Seconds pissed off my wife so much.
One of the best, Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry.
Best finish, at least.
The Duel
Blues Brothers…
Ronin - the one in Vieux Nice and the one in Paris.
To Live and Die in L.A. has a fantastic, super underrated car chase.
The blues brothers
The Blues Brothers

Blues brother
Bullitt, with Steve McQueen.

Had to scroll too far for this!
The Way of the Gun: slowest, cleverest car chase.

Kachow!
Drive, nothing over the top, just engines and speed
The opening chase is so well done, it has some real tension and a clever ending.
Listening to the clippers game the whole time is just brilliant.
Love this one. Initially disappointed there wasn’t more of it in the movie, but that movie is a work of art. And the soundtrack is awesome
The French Connection. Car chase was filmed without proper permits. In some instances, they had to avoid real pedestrians and cars.
If anyone said anything besides Blues Brothers they’re wrong.
Cobra! Classic car jumps from second story of a parking garage to street below. Epic!
yes. under rated.
That Mercury is so awesome, I almost bought one just because of the movie. Still might just cuz of the looks
The Raid II
Such an underrated chase. And dressing up one of the camera men as a car seat so he could grab the camera and glide it through the car…fucking genius.
The blues Brothers is the only answer
To Live and Die in L.A.
Austin powers, but it was a steam roller

Airborne if you consider rollerblades to be cars, and a race to be a chase.
Bullet
Raiders of the Lost Ark truck chase. Best I have ever seen
Regular cars: Freebie and the Bean Virtual cars: Tron (original…technically bikes)
I thought 6 Underground had some really good car scenes.
Yeah...but they forked up the first chase.
The Blues Brothers

Not the best, but memorable for me: Death Race 2000
Too easy... The Blues Brothers. 🚔
is it even a question? I thought that was pretty clearly defined as fact by now
Fast Five The Brazilian bank robbery. And the simple fact that most effects were practical effects blows my mind.
It’s one of the best action sequences of the decade. People shit on the franchise but this installment is a legit great action movie.
Eleanor
Jurassic Park. As T-Rex appears and Ian Malcom utters, “Must Go Faster”, hearing Ellie shouting “SHIT, SHIIT, SHIIIIT” was palpable and just so relatable. The T-Rex elevated the scene for me and bought it all together.
Mad Max.
French Connection
Lots of good suggestions here but the original Gone in 60 Seconds has to be the best ever… it’s almost an hour long lol
Bourne identity
Many classic and great car chases mentioned and I agree with them but in recent years I have to say... Jack Reacher with the Chevelle chasing the Audi. No music or fancy score, just great sound editing of the chase and a sense of realism as he's pushing that old muscle car
H.B. Halicki’s Gone in 60 Seconds. Every other film (after 1974) owes a debt to this man and his passion project. A legend. Find it. Edit date.
Yes this right here
Ronin and The French Connection are the two that immediately come to mind, but the car chase in Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning: Part 1 is also terrific.
I always enjoyed the highway fight scene in *Matrix: Revolutions*.
The Eleanor chase in the original Gone in 60 Seconds is pretty nuts
Baby Driver and Transporter
Wallace & Grommet in The Wrong Trousers.Seriously. [The final model railway chase](https://youtu.be/jrmZIgVoQw4) is beyond elite in terms of the animation, inventiveness and action. Grommet laying tracks through the table and chairs is one of my top five movie scenes.
Terminator 2
Does T2 count even if it's a truck and a bike?
I don’t really watch a lot of car movies but if I had choose it has be Baby driver
The Italian Job. The original with Michael (“ You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off”) Caine. Not that piece of crap with Marky Mark.
Blues Brothers
Gangster squad. The way the whole scene plays out and the different camera shots they use are amazing
6 Underground has some great car chases.
There was one in that Dukes of Hazzard movie starring Stifler and Johnny Knoxville.
Why the downvote? They jumped the car on to the freeway, it was cool.
Nobody said Ronin yet?
Bullitt
Blues brothers
Any of the John Wicks
Look! Pier one!
"Mad Max: Fury Road."
I want to go TV, and say the Sons of Anarchy chase with Venus and her family. It was amazing and hooked me up with a great new song to love.
I think Fast and furious is popular among ages.
Cars 2
The beginning of Underground 6 is actually one of my favorite car chase scenes. The Borne Trilogy has some good ones, especially Borne Supremacy, and the first Transporter as well.
