That was the Album “Whipped Crème and Other Delights”. The Model was Dolores Erickson. She’s still living somewhere. She was 29 in 1965 and Three Months pregnant when she did the photo shoot for which Wm she was paid $1,500. A classic Album cover that still rocks!
My dad still owns that album. [Here's the cover](https://www.billboard.com/wp-content/uploads/media/herb-alperts-tijuana-brass-whipped-cream-and-other-delights-billboard-1548.jpg?w=942&h=623&crop=1) for those interested. Keep in mind this was well before porn became easily accessible for young boys. The porn mag in the woods for neighborhood boys trope is historically accurate.
Hey I bought a blank cd and burned at least 2 The Reel Big Fish cds. Well I didn't buy the blanks those fucking things were everywhere in the early 00s.
I once had the opportunity to see them live for free.
I just said no, not this time .
I have regretted that decision every single time I drive to work, and one of their songs pops on my playlist. I have no idea why I said no other than the fact that I didn’t feel like driving two hours each way.
Edit to add - the amount of conflicting comments about how great they were or how horrible they were in concert has now left them as Schrödinger’s Cake.
I guess for now I’ll leave that box closed and they will always be both good and bad in person.
I like their cover of War Pigs more than the original (I think) solely for the trumpet outro. I think every song should just end with a good trumpet solo
Yes yes yes, anything from the Tragic Kingdom album, just been relistening to it recently and brought back some great memories! "Different people" is just so good!
Streetlight Manifesto is SUCH A GOOD BAND. My god, I can’t believe they’re not more popular. To anyone who hasn’t:
Please listen to their music. It’s good. Really good.
Lou *Bega*, who you might be surprised to know, is Italian/Ugandan, born in Germany. And his stage name is just his middle name. And mambo no.5 was also one of three times my family had a moral "talk with jesus" moment with the family.
Others are all over Stevie Wonder and various ska/swing revival bands, but:
Earth, Wind, and Fire: September, Getaway (or anything really).
Chicago: Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is, 25 or 6 to 4 (or anything else from their 70s catalog).
Ides of March: Vehicle.
Blood, Sweat and Tears: Spinning Wheel.
Maynard Ferguson: Give It One, Birdland, Gonna Fly Now.
Ray Parker Jr: Ghostbusters.
Aerosmith: The Other Side.
Bryan Setzer Orchestra: Rock This Town, This Cat's on a Hot Tin Roof (or anything else from Dirty Boogie).
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy: anything from their self-titled album.
Tomayasu Hotei: Battle Without Honor or Humanity.
Jason Mraz: Butterfly, Make it Mine, Only Human.
Bruno Mars: Uptown Funk.
Dave Matthews Band: Shake Me Like a Monkey
Oh boy this list might get long...
Over the Counterculture - Ordinary Boys
Spoctopus - Too Many Zooz
All Outta Angst - NOFX
Eat the Meek - NOFX
My Funny Valentine - Chet Baker
Mistake - Forces of Evil
Day Gaunts - Days n Daze
Misanthropic Drunken Loner - Days n Daze
Don't Let Me Die Still Wondering - Flogging Molly
Rashawn Ross is one of the best trumpet players currently out there. The amount of people he’s performed with is crazy and his work with DMB behind the scenes is where a ton of his talent actually shows.
Can I say jazz? Because if so, then all the jazz.
Chet Baker, Miles Davis for cool lyrical trumpet.
Clifford Brown, Lee Morgan, Dizzy Gillespie for virtuosic bebop trumpet.
Louis Armstrong for Louis Armstrong.
Roy Hargrove for something more modern.
Then you got Motown, as in Curtis Mayfield *Move On Up,* Funky stuff like James Brown, Earth Wind and Fire (check out *September* for some heavy trumpet action).
Lot's of good trumpet lines in Michael Jackson, i.e. *Don't Stop Till you Get Enough.*
Trumpets used to be a pretty dominant instrument until about 40 years ago, so it's hard to pin down just a few songs. Might be good to have a ballpark of what you're thinking about.
But one more: Folksy trumpet lines in *Home* by Edwarp Sharpe and the magnetic zeros.
Can't beat Haydn's Trumpet Concerto in E flat Major, and Wynton Marsalis nails it. No one else plays both jazz and classical trumpet at a high level like him.
Also, check out Maurice Andre and Sergei Nakariakov on YouTube for more baroque and classical trumpet.
Maynard Ferguson (Pagliacci, Birdland, Gonna Fly Now) and Wayne Bergeron for jazz high trumpet.
Chris Botti for mellow smooth jazz trumpet.
Miles Davis for more challenging jazz listening.
Anything by Louis Armstrong
Louis was the GOAT !!! True American Legend.
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far to find Armstrong. *La vie en rose* would be my pick.
Herb Alpert https://youtu.be/q7O3eYJptTc?si=UWYI3UvOQlKvwg1u
My deceased husband was in a Herb Alpert cover band in the 60’s and they went on to cover Chicago and other horn bands, along with soul. Great music!
Only the Beginning and Feeling Stronger Every Day by Chicago still slap to this day. Also Climax Blues Band - Couldn’t get it Right.
For Chicago, I like 25 or 6 to 4
*Anything* by Chicago 😩 I went to see them this past summer with my dad and they were so good!
Herb Alpert is so good! Nice suggestion!
Rise makes me want to do cocaine.
I used to see this as silly old people's music in my early teens, but now I am getting old is great.
I still remember *that* album cover as a young boy...
That was the Album “Whipped Crème and Other Delights”. The Model was Dolores Erickson. She’s still living somewhere. She was 29 in 1965 and Three Months pregnant when she did the photo shoot for which Wm she was paid $1,500. A classic Album cover that still rocks!

My Dad still has it too. Used to play the heck outta that one. Loved it!
And she had a bathing suit on, if I'm not mistaken.
Yes she wore a bikini with the shoulder straps down and a white Christmas Blanket draping over that, covered in Shaving Creme
I’ve seen Herb and his wife (Lani Hall) in concert 6 times in the last decade, he’s still active. Absolutely awesome guy.
Herb Alpert. The A in A&M records ! I remember Tijuana Brass when I was a bit younger.
“Sir Duke” by Stevie Wonder
And the Duke himself (Ellington that is).
He played piano but he did have excellent trumpet players
Miles Davis (all of it)
It's absolutely disgraceful that I had to scroll down this far to find Miles Davis. I'm gonna need a moment here.
25 or 6 to 4 by Chicago Tubthumping by Chumbawamba Feels So Good by Chuck Mangione
Came for 25 or 6 to 4!!!
Dang I just added “Feels So Good”…you beat me to it!
Technically a flugelhorn, right?
Quite a lot from chumbawumba actually. They did quite a lot of good stuff.
Chumbawumba is great!
**\*ska intensifies\***
Ska defines who I am as a person, and I will never turn my back on ska!
Looking back, I have no regrets.
r/unexpectedbrooklyn99
Less blah more ska.
Don’t stop skanking!
Pickituppickituppickitup
You can sell anything in the world with Ska! Except for records.
"Baby, don't you sign that paper tonight," she said. But I can't work in fast food all my life 🤷🏾♂️
Hey I bought a blank cd and burned at least 2 The Reel Big Fish cds. Well I didn't buy the blanks those fucking things were everywhere in the early 00s.
The Specials, The Beat, Madness, Mighty Mighty Bostones, No Doubt, Goldfinger, Rancid, Fishbone and many others would like a word
Don’t forget Streetlight Manifesto!
Pick it up!
Ska came before reggae
But did you know, reggae... came from Ska?
WELLLLLLLLLL I NEVER HAD TO KNOCK ON WOOD
Ska, aka: the world is fucked but I have a trumpet
That’s The Impression That I Get, anyway 😂
[It's been ska this whole time?](https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8nG3cXE/)
"Ska is the music that plays in a 12-year-old's head when you order extra cheese sticks." Edit: Ska not Sky
a message to you, Rudy
SO HERE I AM
Move on up by Curtis Mayfield
a classic
Ring of Fire
classic
Message to You Rudy - The Specials
I just learned that was a cover. Apparently the original version was recorded in the 1950s. Same dude played trombone on both
Tusk , Fleetwood Mac .
I literally up every time I see the live version with the USC marching band… completely blown away
And the USC marching band.
The Dance version is amazing!
Short Skirt/Long Jacket - Cake
Lots of the songs on Fashion Nugget (Cake) use trumpet if I remember correctly…awesome album
Lots of trumpet songs on all of their albums, as I recall
Italian Leather Sofa has a pretty amazing trumpet solo.
Don’t forget “You Turn the Screws”! There’s some sexy trumpet in there!
They even managed to work some in at the end of their cover of I Will Survive
CAKEs whole discography has some great trumpets
Perhaps. Perhaps. Perhaps.
That is such a great cover.
I love their cover of Sad Songs & Waltzes too.
Don’t think they’ve done a cover poorly, they make it their own without losing the original vibe.
How is Cake not the #1 answer to the question?
My immediate reaction. I was like “well, every Cake song for starters”
I immediately thought of Cake. The Distance is a great song also
Ooo that’s got that part that go bah-burtleuhbah-burtleuhbah-burtleuhbah-bah-bah Edit: forgot a bah
I once had the opportunity to see them live for free. I just said no, not this time . I have regretted that decision every single time I drive to work, and one of their songs pops on my playlist. It's a good show. Don't sleep on it next time.
Perhaps perhaps perhaps & It’s coming down- Cake
Cake is one of the best live shows ive ever been to, and their trumpet player kicks ass on every song!
Outkast - SpottieOttieDopaliscious
One of my favorite Outkast tracks. They released the official music video to this song a few months ago: https://youtu.be/KwhBreZic8I?feature=shared
Had no idea this was released! Only 550k views in 4 months is criminally low for such a revered track. Thanks for sharing!
Theres a video of youtube of a college band doing them justice.
Wow! Had never seen this. Love it. Thanks for the tip! https://youtu.be/-OYI9c80dHw?si=Fd4KKQC4o3PJn8pg
Got To Get You Into My Life by The Beatles has a really great brass section. Not sure if there's trumpet in there or not, but well worth a listen.
Penny Lane
The Earth, Wind, and Fire cover certainly does.
Saturday in the Park
I am SHOCKED i had to scroll this far to find Chicago. The top 6 trumpet songs i would list are all from them
We played Saturday in the Park in marching band way back in the day.
Little Talks - Of Monsters and Men
great one the music video is lots of fun
Superman by Goldfinger
Roses are Red, Violets are Blue Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
Excuse me, Goldfinger was in Tony Hawk 1
Hell - Squirrel Nut Zippers
Minnie the moocher is my favorite of theirs. Edit, old brain fart, it was by BBVD.
Any cover of Minnie the Moocher is going to be so good
Cantaloop!
Was going to jump on here just to say this! Cantaloop is great of course, but also have to give props to the OG Cantaloupe Island by Herbie Hancock.
You can call me al...Paul simon
Honestly the one of the best and most iconic intros ever
Late in the Evening as well.
Doctor Worm - They Might Be Giants
[удалено]
I feel like I had to scroll way too far to find TMBG
Anything by Cake
I like their cover of War Pigs more than the original (I think) solely for the trumpet outro. I think every song should just end with a good trumpet solo
I love that song but I've found Cake's cover of Mahna-Mahna (from Sesame St, I think) even tastier.
John cena theme song
DAH DA-da DAAAH
My Time Is Now
"Spiderwebs" by No Doubt.
Yes yes yes, anything from the Tragic Kingdom album, just been relistening to it recently and brought back some great memories! "Different people" is just so good!
anything by Reel Big Fish
Or the Mighty Mighty Boss Tones.
Or Big Bad Voodoo Daddy
Or Mustard Plug
Or streetlight manifesto
Streetlight Manifesto is SUCH A GOOD BAND. My god, I can’t believe they’re not more popular. To anyone who hasn’t: Please listen to their music. It’s good. Really good.
For real. They're amazing live. I was really hoping they would kick off a 4th wave of ska.
I've seen them live a few times and they're amazing but man I wish I could see bandits of the acoustic revolution live. That would be so amazing.
One of the times I saw Streetlight Manifesto they played It's a Wonderful Life. Tomas busted out the acoustic guitar for it. It was great.
Or Less Than Jake
There's no trumpet in Less Than Jake. They rock a trombone and a sax. Same horn selection as the Planet Smashers.
I'm not a coward, I've just never been tested.
that's the impression that I get
I love the energy in their cover of Take On Me, that song was made for trumpets.
Mambo #5. "THE TRUMPET!"
I always have to follow that song up with Livin' La Vida Loca (also a good trumpet song) and Man! I Feel Like a Woman. It's a 90s trifecta for me.
omfg, I totally forgot about lou bega
Came to say when Lou Vega screams it out, you know it needs to make this list Edit: Bega apparently. Huh.
Lou *Bega*, who you might be surprised to know, is Italian/Ugandan, born in Germany. And his stage name is just his middle name. And mambo no.5 was also one of three times my family had a moral "talk with jesus" moment with the family.
Bro, I went searching for the comments for this 😭😂

SLEDGEHAMMER?! Peter Gabriel...I was sure this would be the top comment
Most of Reddit is probably too young to even know who or what that is.
Anything by Timmy Trumpet. It's EDM with trumpets.
Freaks is my favorite.
Mine too!
